Abstract:The Monge-Ampere equation, plays a central role in the theory of fully non linear equations. In fact we will like to show how the Monge-Ampere equation, links in some way the ideas comming from the calculus of variations and those of the theory of fully non linear equations.

Abstract:The partial Legendre transform of a non-linear elliptic differential equation is shown to be another non-linear elliptic differential equation. In particular, the partial Legendre transform of the Monge-Ampère equation is another equation of Monge-Ampère type. In 1+1 dimensions, this can be applied to obtain uniform estimates to all orders for the degenerate Monge-Ampère equation with boundary data satisfying a strict convexity condition.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Neumann problem of Monge-Ampère equations in Semi-space. For two dimensional case, we prove that its viscosity convex solutions must be a quadratic polynomial. When the space dimension n ≥ 3, we show that the conclusion still holds if either the boundary value is zero or the viscosity convex solutions restricted on some n − 2 dimensional subspace is bounded from above by a quadratic function. Abstract:We have studied the electric transport properties of symmetrical [001] tilt NdCeCuO bicrystal grain boundary Josephson junctions (GBJs) fabricated on SrTiO bicrystal substrates with misorientation angles of 24 and 36.8 degree. The superconducting properties of the NdCeCuO-GBJs are similar to those of GBJs fabricated from the hole doped high temperature superconductors (HTS). The critical current density Jc decreases strongly with increasing misorientation angle. The products of the critical current Ic and the normal resistance Rn (about 0.1 mV at 4.2 K) are small compared to the gap voltage and fit well to the universal scaling law (IcRn is proportional to the square root of Jc) found for GBJs fabricated from the hole doped HTS. This suggests that the symmetry of the order parameter, which most likely is different for the electron and the hole doped HTS has little influence on the characteristic properties of symmetrical [001] tilt GBJs.

Abstract:We introduce a nonlinear geometric equation (NGE) related to electrodynamics, which governs the time-like extremal surfaces in (2+n)-dimensional Minkowski space. We study some interesting properties enjoyed by the NGE, and present an explicit exact representation, involving two independent arbitrary functions, of general solution. Finally, we discuss the mechanism of the formation of singularities of the NGE.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Volume 56, Issue 1, Page 234-253, February 2024. In this paper, we are interested in the following degenerate elliptic Monge–Ampère equation:[math] Under suitable structure conditions on [math], we can show that [math] and the solutions of linearized equation have the same symmetric property as the domain. Moreover, we also achieve some uniqueness results for homogenous nonlinearity [math] ([math]) in general convex domain. Compared to the results in [G. Huang, Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations, 58 (2019), 73], we dispose the "uniformly convex" condition imposed on the domain. With a subtle approximation procedure and variant form of Hopf's lemma, we overcome the technical difficulties caused by the degeneracy of the above equation. What's more, we can also get the uniqueness property for domains whose geometry is close enough to the symmetric convex domain.

Abstract:We consider a general class of elliptic equations on hypercomplex manifolds which includes the quaternionic Monge-Ampère equation, the quaternionic Hessian equation and the Monge-Ampère equation for quaternionic $(n-1)$-plurisubharmonic functions. We prove that under suitable assumptions the solutions to these equations on hyperkähler manifolds satisfy a $C^{2,\alpha}$ a priori estimate.

Abstract:The elliptic Monge-Ampere equation is a fully nonlinear Partial Differential Equation which originated in geometric surface theory, and has been applied in dynamic meteorology, elasticity, geometric optics, image processing and image registration. Solutions can be singular, in which case standard numerical approaches fail. In this article we build a finite difference solver for the Monge-Ampere equation, which converges even for singular solutions. Regularity results are used to select a priori between a stable, provably convergent monotone discretization and an accurate finite difference discretization in different regions of the computational domain. This allows singular solutions to be computed using a stable method, and regular solutions to be computed more accurately. The resulting nonlinear equations are then solved by Newton's method. Computational results in two and three dimensions validate the claims of accuracy and solution speed. A computational example is presented which demonstrates the necessity of the use of the monotone scheme near singularities.

Nonlocal elliptic PDEs with general nonlinearities

Abstract:In this thesis we investigate how the nonlocalities affect the study of different PDEs coming from physics, and we analyze these equations under almost optimal assumptions of the nonlinearity. In particular, we focus on the fractional Laplacian operator and on sources involving convolution with the Riesz potential, as well as on the interaction of the two, and we aim to do it through variational and topological methods.

Abstract:Mathematicians have been proposing for sometimes that Monge-Ampère equation, a nonlinear generalization of the Poisson equation, where trace of the Hessian is replaced by its determinant, provides an alternative non-relativistic description of gravity. Monge-Ampère equation is affine invariant, has rich geometric properties, connects to optimal transport theory, and remains bounded at short distances. Monge-Ampère gravity, that uses a slightly different form of the Monge-Ampère equation, naturally emerges through the application of large-deviation principle to a Brownian system of indistinguishable and independent particles. In this work we provide a physical formulation of this mathematical model, study its theoretical viability and confront it with observations. We show that Monge-Ampère gravity cannot replace the Newtonian gravity as it does not withstand the solar-system test. We then show that Monge-Ampère gravity can describe a scalar field, often evoked in modified theories of gravity such as Galileons. We show that Monge-Ampère gravity, as a nonlinear model of a new scalar field, is screened at short distances, and behaves differently from Newtonian gravity above galactic scales but approaches it asymptotically. Finally, we write a relativistic Lagrangian for Monge-Ampère gravity in flat space time, which is the field equation of a sum of the Lagrangians of all Galileons. We also show how the Monge-Ampère equation can be obtained from the fully covariant Lagrangian of quartic Galileon in the static limit. The connection between optimal transport theory and modified theories of gravity with second-order field equations, unravelled here, remains a promising domain to further explore.

Solutions to these equations are special solutions to a class of fourth order equations, including the affine maximal hypersurface equation, in the half space. Abstract:We prove the existence of infinitely many entire convex solutions to the Monge-Amp\`ere equation ${\rm det} D^2 u=f$ in ${\Bbb R}^n$, assuming that the inhomogeneous term $f\ge 0$ and is of polynomial growth at infinity. When $f$ satisfies the doubling condition, we show that solution is of polynomial growth. As an application, we resolve the existence of translating solutions to a class of Gauss curvature flow.
