Abstract:For an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic 0, we give a cycle-theoretic description of the additive 4-term motivic exact sequence associated to the additive dilogarithm of J.-L. Cathelineau, that is the derivative of the Bloch-Wigner function, via the cubical additive higher Chow groups under one assumption. The 4-term functional equation of Cathelineau, an additive analogue of Abel's 5-term functional equation, is also discussed cycle-theoretically.

Abstract:Our investigation focuses on an additive analogue of the Bloch-Gabber-Kato theorem which establishes a relation between the Milnor $K$-group of a field of positive characteristic and a Galois cohomology group of the field. Extending the Aritin-Schreier-Witt theory, we present an isomorphism from the Mackey product associated with the Witt group and the multiplicative groups to a Galois cohomology group. As a result, we give an expression for the torsion subgroup of the Brauer group of a field, and more generally, the Kato homology groups.

Logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves

Abstract:We define the logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of Deligne-Mumford stable curves (together with a set of additive generators lifting the decorated strata classes of the standard tautological rings). While these algebras are infinite dimensional, a connection to polyhedral combinatorics via a new theory of homological piecewise polynomials allows an effective study. A complete calculation is given in genus 0 via the algebra of piecewise polynomials on the cone stack of the associated Artin fan (lifting Keel's presentation of the Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$). Counterexamples to the simplest generalizations in genus 1 are presented. We show, however, that the structure of the log tautological rings is determined by the complete knowledge of all relations in the standard tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. In particular, Pixton's conjecture concerning relations in the standard tautological rings lifts to a complete conjecture for relations in the log tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. Several open questions are discussed. We develop the entire theory of logarithmic tautological classes in the context of arbitrary smooth normal crossings pairs $(X,D)$ with explicit formulas for intersection products. As a special case, we give an explicit set of additive generators of the full logarithmic Chow ring of $(X,D)$ in terms of Chow classes on the strata of $X$ and piecewise polynomials on the cone stack.

Abstract:We prove relations between fractional linear cycles in Bloch's integral cubical higher Chow complex in codimension two of number fields, which correspond to functional equations of the dilogarithm. These relations suffice, as we shall demonstrate with a few examples, to write down enough relations in Bloch's integral higher Chow group CH^2(F,3) for certain number fields F to detect torsion cycles. Using the regulator map to Deligne cohomology, one can check the non-triviality of the torsion cycles thus obtained. Using this combination of methods, we obtain explicit higher Chow cycles generating the integral motivic cohomology groups of some number fields.

Artin-Schreier quandles of involutions in absolute Galois groups

Abstract:We introduce a new invariant of fields that refines their real spectrum and is related to their absolute Galois group: the Artin-Schreier quandle. For formally real number fields, it is freely generated in its variety by a Cantor space of indeterminates. For Laurent series fields, we compute it in terms of the Artin-Schreier quandle of the coefficient field. This result and other examples show that, in general, there are relations.

Abstract:In this work, we propose a double-series representation of the difference between two dilogarithms with specific arguments. The summation is derived combining a formula we recently found for the so-called Grotendieck-Krivine constant, and an identity obtained by Lima for the difference of two dilogarithms with arguments $\sqrt{2}-1$ and $1-\sqrt{2}$ respectively. We also give an integral representation of the difference considered by Lima, on the basis of a formula published by Brychkov.

Abstract:We formulate and prove a non-abelian analog of Deligne's Fixed Part theorem on Hodge classes, revisiting previous work of Jost--Zuo, Katzarkov--Pantev and Landesman--Litt. To this aim we study algebraically isomonodromic extensions of local systems and we relate them to variations of Hodge structures, for example we show that the Mumford-Tate group at a generic point stays constant in an algebraically isomonodromic extension of a variation of Hodge structure. v2: a few typos ironed and Thm 1.1 5) completed. v3: there was a Schlamassel leading to a mix-up of files. Abstract:In this paper we construct an algebraic invariant attached to Galois representations over number fields. This invariant, which we call an Artin symmetric function, lives in a certain ring we introduce called the ring of arithmetic symmetric functions. This ring is built from a family of symmetric functions rings indexed by prime ideals of the base field. We prove many necessary basic results for the ring of arithmetic symmetric functions as well as introduce the analogues of some standard number-theoretic objects in this setting. We prove that the Artin symmetric functions satisfy the same algebraic properties that the Artin L-functions do with respect to induction, inflation, and direct summation of representations. The expansion coefficients of these symmetric functions in different natural bases are shown to be character values of representations of a compact group related to the original Galois group. In the most interesting case, the expansion coefficients into a specialized Hall-Littlewood basis come from new representations built from the original Galois representation using polynomial functors corresponding to modified Hall-Littlewood polynomials. Using a special case of the Satake isomorphism in type GL, as formulated by Macdonald, we show that the Artin symmetric functions yield families of functions in the (finite) global spherical Hecke algebras in type GL which exhibit natural stability properties. We compute the Mellin transforms of these functions and relate them to infinite products of shifted Artin L-functions. We then prove some analytic properties of these Dirichlet series and give an explicit expansion of these series using the Hall-Littlewood polynomial functors.

Abstract:Using Abel's five-term relation, we obtain a new two-parameter series identity for the Rogers dilogarithm. By specializing this identity we are able to derive dilogarithm series involving Lucas sequences. These identities generalize some results of Bridgeman, which were obtained using a completely different approach.

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

Abstract:This is a reasonably self-contained exposition of the fascinating interplay between cluster algebras and the dilogarithm in the recent two decades. The dilogarithm has a long and rich history since Euler. The most intriguing property of the function is that it satisfies various functional relations, which we call dilogarithm identities (DIs). In the 1990s Gliozzi and Tateo conjectured a family of DIs based on root systems, which vastly generalize the classic DIs such as Euler's and Abel's identities. On the other hand, the cluster algebras are a class of commutative algebras introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky around 2000. It turned out that a DI is associated with each period in a cluster pattern of cluster algebra theory. In particular, they solve the conjecture on the DIs by Gliozzi and Tateo. We employ these DIs as the leitmotif and present several proofs, variations, and generalizations of them with various methods and techniques. The quantum DIs are also treated from the unified point of view with the classical ones.

Abstract:Based on the logarithmic algebraic geometry and the theory of Deligne systems, we define an abelian category of $\ell$-adic sheaves with weight filtrations on a logarithmic scheme over a finite field, which is similar to the category of variations of mixed Hodge structure. We consider asymptotic behaviors and simple cases of higher direct images of objects of this category. This category is closely related to the monodromy-weight conjecture.

Abstract:We introduce the definition of De Rham logarithmic classes. We show that the De Rham class of an algebraic cycle of a smooth algebraic variety over a field of characteristic zero is logarithmic and conversely that a logarithmic class of bidegree $(d,d)$ is the De Rham class of an algebraic cycle (of codimension $d$). We also give for smooth algebraic varieties over a $p$-adic field an analytic version of this result. We deduce from the analytic case the Tate conjecture for smooth projective varieties over fields of finite type over $\mathbb Q$ and over $p$-adic fields for $\mathbb Q_p$ coefficients, under good reduction assumption.

Abstract:A quantum analogue of the dilogarithm function has been introduced recently by Faddeev and Kashaev in such a way that a certain identity in the Weyl algebra ($) over bar W-q plays the role of the five-term dilogarithm identity. We study this identity in the limit when q approaches a root of unity and show that it then reduces to the 'restricted star-triangle relation' which has been used previously by Bazhanov and Baxter as a local integrability condition of a class of three-dimensional solvable lattice models.

Abstract:We give a congruence for L-functions coming from affine additive exponential sums over a finite field. Precisely, we give a congruence for certain operators coming from Dwork's theory. This congruence is very similar to the congruence of Manin for the characteristic polynomial of the action of Frobenius on the Jacobian of a curve defined over a finite field.
