Abstract:These are extended abstracts from an series of lectures in 1997. The text has not been updated since then. We explain the construction of the motivic polylog as published in Annette Huber, Jörg Wildeshaus, Classical Motivic Polylogarithm According to Beilinson and Deligne, <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://Doc.Math.J.DMV" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> 3 (1998) 27-133. The main application is a comparison result for cyclotomic elements needed in the proof of the Tamagawa number conjecture of Bloch and Kato for Dirichlet characters. The exposition concentrates on the Hodge theoretic part of the story.

Polylogarithm Variations and Motivic Extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$ by $\mathbb{Q}(m)$

Abstract:Deligne and Goncharov constructed a neutral tannakian category of mixed Tate motives unramified over $\mathbb{Z}[\mu_N,1/N]$. Brown and Hain--Matsumoto computed the depth 2 quadratic relations of the motivic Galois group of this category for $N = 1$. We take the first steps in generalizing their results to all $N \ge 1$ by realizing the generators of the motivic Galois group by derivations on the Lie algebra of the unipotent fundamental group of a restriction of the Tate elliptic curve. This representation is compatible with a natural identification of the odd rational $K$-groups of the rings $\mathbb{Z}[\mu_N,1/N]$ with spaces of $\Gamma_1(N)$ Eisenstein series, thus inducing a natural action of the prime to $N$ part of the Hecke algebra on the $K$-groups. We establish these results by first showing the inclusion of $\mathbb{P}^1 - \{0,\mu_N,\infty\}$ into the nodal elliptic curve with a cyclic subgroup of order $N$ removed induces a morphism of mixed Tate motives on unipotent fundamental groups and then by computing the periods of the limit mixed Hodge structure of an elliptic polylogarithm variation of MHS over the universal elliptic curve of $Y_1(N)$.

A construction of the polylogarithm motive

Abstract:Classical polylogarithms give rise to a variation of mixed Hodge-Tate structures on the punctured projective line $S=\mathbb{P}^1\setminus \{0, 1, \infty\}$, which is an extension of the symmetric power of the Kummer variation by a trivial variation. By results of Beilinson-Deligne, Huber-Wildeshaus, and Ayoub, this polylogarithm variation has a lift to the category of mixed Tate motives over $S$, whose existence is proved by computing the corresponding space of extensions in both the motivic and the Hodge settings. In this paper, we construct the polylogarithm motive as an explicit relative cohomology motive, namely that of the complement of the hypersurface $\{1-zt_1\cdots t_n=0\}$ in affine space $\mathbb{A}^n_S$ relative to the union of the hyperplanes $\{t_i=0\}$ and $\{t_i=1\}$.

Logarithmic motivic homotopy theory

Abstract:This work is dedicated to the construction of a new motivic homotopy theory for (log) schemes, generalizing Morel-Voevodsky's (un)stable $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy category. Our setting can be used to represent log topological Hochschild and cyclic homology, as well as algebraic $K$-theory of regular schemes, and to realize the cyclotomic trace as a morphism between motivic spectra. Among the applications, a generalized framework of oriented cohomology theories allows us to produce new residue sequences for (topological) Hochschild, periodic and cyclic homology of classical schemes, to compute $\mathrm{THH}$ and variants of Grassmannians, and to define a new version of algebraic cobordism. Finally, we give a construction of a log étale stable realization functor, as well as a Kato-Nakayama realization functor, which are of independent interest for applications in log geometry.

Abstract:We introduce a new Lie-algebraic approach to explicitly construct the motivic coaction and single-valued map of multiple polylogarithms in any number of variables. In both cases, the appearance of multiple zeta values is controlled by conjugating generating series of polylogarithms with Lie-algebra generators associated with odd zeta values. Our reformulation of earlier constructions of coactions and single-valued polylogarithms preserves choices of fibration bases, exposes the correlation between multiple zeta values of different depths and paves the way for generalizations beyond genus zero.

Abstract:We present a review of the symbol map, a mathematical tool introduced by Goncharov and used by him and collaborators in the context of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 SYM for simplifying expressions among multiple polylogarithms, and we recall its main properties. A recipe is given for how to obtain the symbol of a multiple polylogarithm in terms of the combinatorial properties of an associated rooted decorated polygon, and it is indicated how that recipe relates to a similar explicit formula for it previously given by Goncharov. We also outline a systematic approach to constructing a function corresponding to a given symbol, and illustrate it in the particular case of harmonic polylogarithms up to weight four. Furthermore, part of the ambiguity of this process is highlighted by exhibiting a family of non-trivial elements in the kernel of the symbol map for arbitrary weight.

Abstract:We extend the notions of Hochschild and cyclic homology to morphisms from algebraic spaces to algebraic stacks. Using this, we obtain generalizations to log schemes in the sense of Fontaine and Illusie of these homology theories.

Logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves

Abstract:We define the logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of Deligne-Mumford stable curves (together with a set of additive generators lifting the decorated strata classes of the standard tautological rings). While these algebras are infinite dimensional, a connection to polyhedral combinatorics via a new theory of homological piecewise polynomials allows an effective study. A complete calculation is given in genus 0 via the algebra of piecewise polynomials on the cone stack of the associated Artin fan (lifting Keel's presentation of the Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$). Counterexamples to the simplest generalizations in genus 1 are presented. We show, however, that the structure of the log tautological rings is determined by the complete knowledge of all relations in the standard tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. In particular, Pixton's conjecture concerning relations in the standard tautological rings lifts to a complete conjecture for relations in the log tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. Several open questions are discussed. We develop the entire theory of logarithmic tautological classes in the context of arbitrary smooth normal crossings pairs $(X,D)$ with explicit formulas for intersection products. As a special case, we give an explicit set of additive generators of the full logarithmic Chow ring of $(X,D)$ in terms of Chow classes on the strata of $X$ and piecewise polynomials on the cone stack.

Higher genus polylogarithms on families of Riemann surfaces

Abstract:We construct polylogarithms on families of pointed Riemann surfaces of any genus which describe monodromies of meromorphic connections with simple poles. Furthermore, we show that the polylogaritms are computable as power series in deformation parameters and their logarithms associated with the families.

Abstract:We develop the foundations of logarithmic structures beyond the standard finiteness conditions. The motivation is the study of semistable models over general valuation rings. The key new notion is that of a morphism of finite presentation up to saturation (sfp), which is one that is qcqs and which is locally isomorphic to the saturated base change of a finitely presented morphism between fs log schemes. As in the case of schemes, sfp maps can (locally on the base) be approximated by maps between fs log schemes of finite type over $\mathbb{Z}$. Based on sfp maps, we define smooth, étale, and Kummer étale maps. Importantly, the maps of schemes underlying such maps are no longer of finite type in general, though surprisingly they are if the base is the spectrum of a valuation ring with algebraically closed field of fractions. These foundations allow us to extend beyond the fs case the theory of the Kummer étale site and of the Kummer étale fundamental group.

Abstract:We define a Hopf algebra of polylogarithms of an infinite field, which is a candidate for a conjectural Hopf algebra of framed mixed Tate motives. Our definition is elementary and mimics Goncharov's construction of higher Bloch groups. We also discuss the Hodge and motivic realization of the Hopf algebra of polylogarithms.

Monodromy of double elliptic logarithms

Abstract:We determine the relative monodromy group of abelian logarithms with respect to periods in the cases of fibered products of elliptic schemes. This gives rise to a result stronger than a theorem due to Y. André and implies in particular the algebraic independence of the logarithm of any non-torsion section and the periods. We then conjecture an analogous result for the general case of an abelian scheme of arbitrary relative dimension. This generalizes a theorem of Corvaja and Zannier which determines the said group in the case of a single elliptic scheme.

Abstract:In the present paper, we derive formulas of complex and $\ell$-adic multiple polylogarithms, which have two aspects: a duality in terms of indexes and a reflection in terms of variables. We provide an algebraic proof of these formulas by using algebraic relations between associators arising from the $S_3$-symmetry of the projective line minus three points.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a natural construction of mixed Tate motives whose periods are a class of iterated integrals which include the multiple polylogarithm functions. Given such an iterated integral, we construct two divisors A and B in the moduli spaces M¯0,n of n-pointed stable curves of genus 0, and prove that the cohomology of the pair (M¯0,n−A,B−B∩A) is a framed mixed Tate motive whose period is that integral. It generalizes the results of A. Goncharov and Yu. Manin for multiple ζ-values. Then we apply our construction to the dilogarithm and calculate the period matrix which turns out to be same with the canonical one of Deligne.

Abstract:Elliptic polylogarithms can be defined as iterated integrals on a genus-one Riemann surface of a set of integration kernels whose generating series was already considered by Kronecker in the 19th century. In this article, we employ the Schottky parametrization of a Riemann surface to construct higher-genus analogues of Kronecker's generating series, which we refer to as Schottky-Kronecker forms. Our explicit construction generalizes ideas from Bernard's higher-genus construction of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection. Integration kernels generated from the Schottky-Kronecker forms are defined as Poincaré series. Under technical assumptions, related to the convergence of these Poincaré series on the underlying Riemann surface, we argue that these integration kernels coincide with a set of differentials defined by Enriquez, whose iterated integrals constitute higher-genus analogues of polylogarithms. Enriquez' original definition is not well-suited for numerical evaluation of higher-genus polylogarithms. In contrast, the Poincaré series defining our integration kernels can be evaluated numerically for real hyperelliptic curves, for which the above-mentioned convergence assumptions can be verified. We numerically evaluate several examples of genus-two polylogarithms, thereby paving the way for numerical evaluation of hyperelliptic analogues of polylogarithms.

These functions have two integral representations and an order structure similar to those of multiple zeta star values. Abstract:Given a finite set $S$ of distinct primes, we propose a method to construct polylogarithmic motivic Chabauty-Kim functions for $\mathbb{P}^1 \setminus \{ 0,1,\infty \}$ using resultants. For a prime $p\not\in S$, the vanishing loci of the images of such functions under the $p$-adic period map contain the solutions of the $S$-unit equation. In the case $\vert S\vert=2$, we explicitly construct a non-trivial motivic Chabauty-Kim function in depth 6 of degree 18, and prove that there do not exist any other Chabauty-Kim functions with smaller depth and degree. The method, inspired by work of Dan-Cohen and the first author, enhances the geometric step algorithm developed by Corwin and Dan-Cohen, providing a more efficient approach.
