Abstract:The latest results of beauty quark production measurements at HERA are presented. New measurements have been obtained both in the photoproduction and the deep inelastic scattering regimes. The results were compared with the NLO QCD calculations.

Abstract:Processes of heavy quark photoproduction at HERA energies and beyond are investigated using the semihard ($k_{\bot}$ factorization) approach. Virtuality and longitudinal polarization of gluons in the photon - gluon subprocess as well as the saturation effects in the gluon distribution function at small $x$ have been taken into account. The total cross sections, rapidity and $p_{\bot}$ distributions of the charm and beauty quark photoproduction have been calculated. The results are compared with ZEUS experimental data for charm photoproduction cross section.

Abstract:Measurements of open charm and beauty production cross sections in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering at HERA from the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations are combined. Reduced cross sections are obtained in the kinematic range of negative four-momentum transfer squared of the photon $2.5$ GeV$^2<Q^2<2000$ GeV$^2$ and Bjorken scaling variable $3\cdot10^{-5}<x_{\text{Bj}}<5\cdot10^{-2}$. The combination method accounts for the correlations of the statistical and systematic uncertainties among the different datasets. Perturbative QCD calculations are compared to the combined data. A next-to-leading order QCD analysis is performed using these data together with the combined inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross sections from HERA. The running charm- and beauty-quark masses are determined as $m_c(m_c) = 1.290^{+0.046}_{-0.041}\text{(exp/fit)}^{+0.062}_{-0.014}\text{(model)}^{+0.003}_{-0.031}\text{(parameterisation)}$ GeV and $m_b(m_b) = 4.049^{+0.104}_{-0.109}\text{(exp/fit)}^{+0.090}_{-0.032}\text{(model)}^{+0.001}_{-0.031} \text{(parameterisation)}$~GeV.

Studies on the hadronization of charm and beauty quarks

Abstract:In this contribution, the latest results on hadronization studies of charm and beauty quarks obtained with the data collected with the ALICE experiment at the LHC are presented. Measurements of prompt and non-prompt charm-hadron production in pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb are shown. The results are also compared with theoretical models that consider different implementations of the heavy-quark hadronization across collision systems.

Beauty photoproduction at HERA: kt-factorization versus experimental data

Abstract:We present calculations of the beauty photoproduction at HERA collider in the framework of the kt-factorization approach. Both direct and resolved photon contributions are taken into account. The unintegrated gluon densities in a proton and in a photon are obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We investigate different production rates (both inclusive and associated with hadronic jets) and compare our theoretical predictions with the recent experimental data taken by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. Special attention is put on the x_{\gamma}^{obs} variable which is sensitive to the relative contributions to the beauty production cross section.

Abstract:Recent results on inclusive D^0 and D^{*+-} production in deeply inelastic ep scattering at sqrt(s)=301 GeV are summarized. The data have been collected by the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA. The total and the differential cross sections are discussed in the framework of LO and NLO QCD predictions. The data exhibit clear evidence for boson gluon fusion dominating open heavy flavor production in the kinematic range currently explored at HERA. The measurements of F_2^{cc}(x,Q^2) at small Bjorken x are presented. The prospects for future analyses of open charm and beauty production including detector upgrades and anticipated high luminosities are investigated.
Beauty-quark and charm-quark pair production asymmetries at LHCb

Abstract:The LHCb collaboration has recently performed a first measurement of the angular production asymmetry in the distribution of beauty quarks and anti-quarks at a hadron collider. We calculate the corresponding standard model prediction for this asymmetry at fixed-order in perturbation theory. Our results show good agreement with the data, which is provided differentially for three bins in the invariant mass of the $b \bar b$ system. We also present similar predictions for both beauty-quark and charm-quark final states within the LHCb acceptance for a collision energy of $\sqrt{s} = 13 \, {\rm TeV}$. We finally point out that a measurement of the ratio of the $b \bar b$ and $c \bar c$ cross sections may be useful for experimentally validating charm-tagging efficiencies.

Latest ALICE results on charm and beauty hadronisation in hadronic collisions

Abstract:The study of heavy-flavour mesons and baryons in hadronic collisions provides unique access to the properties of heavy-quark hadronisation in the presence of large partonic densities, where new mechanisms of hadron formation beyond in-vacuum fragmentation can emerge. Performing these measurements in intervals of charged-particle multiplicities across different collision systems provides sensitivity to understand whether different hadronisation mechanisms are at play in small and large hadronic colliding systems. In this contribution, a selection of the latest charm and beauty production measurements in proton--proton (pp) collisions is presented, which can shed light on the modification of the heavy-quark hadronisation mechanisms with respect to leptonic collisions. New published results of the production of all prompt charm ground states in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$~TeV, which allowed us to measure the charm fragmentation fractions and the total $\rm c\bar{c}$ production cross section at midrapidity, will be shown. The new final measurement of non-prompt (i.e. originating from beauty-hadron decays) $\rm \Lambda_c^+$ baryons in the same collisions system will be discussed to provide a quantitative comparison between the hadronisation properties of beauty and charm hadrons. New measurements of $\rm \Xi_c^0$ production as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$~TeV, and of $\rm \Xi_c^0$ production in p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$~TeV, will be also presented, shedding further light on the hadronisation of charm-strange baryons in different colliding systems.

Abstract:Production of charmed and beauty mesons and baryons in hadron-nucleon collisions at not very high energy is considered in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String Model. We take into account the possible corrections to the model which disappear at asymptotically high energies but could be important at comparatively low energies, essentially in the case of heavy flavour production. The case of nuclear targets is also considered and the $A$-dependence of charmed and beauty hadron yields is calculated. Predictions for the case of beauty hadron production at $\sqrt{s}$ = 39 GeV are presented.

Measurement of Dijet Production in Diffractive Deep-Inelastic Scattering at HERA

Abstract:The production of dijets is measured in diffractive deep-inelastic scattering at HERA. The data were recorded with the H1 detector at DESY in the years 2003-2007. Diffractive events are selected by requiring a gap in the rapidity distribution of the hadronic systen, where no particles are produced. Two jets are selected with transverse momenta in the hadronic-centre-of-mass system larger than 4 and 5.5GeV, respectively. Cross sections are measured single- and doubledifferentially in various kinematic quantities. The data are found to be in good agreement with NLO QCD calculations based on diffractive parton densities determined frominclusive diffractive cross section measurements.

Abstract:This note will be part of Chapter 6.5 of the ALICE Physics Performance Report (PPR), "ALICE Physics: Charm and Beauty", where the capabilities of ALICE for the detection of open heavy flavour particles will be described. We define here the present ALICE baseline for what concerns the heavy flavour production cross sections at LHC and the kinematical distributions of the heavy quark pairs. We start by qualitatively assessing the Bjorken x regimes accessible with charm and beauty measurements at LHC with ALICE (Section 1). In Section 2 we report the most recent results (and the uncertainties) of the next-to-leading order (NLO) pQCD calculations for the cross sections in pp collisions at LHC energies. These results are extrapolated to Pb-Pb collisions in Section 3.1 and to p-Pb collisions in Section 3.2, taking into account nuclear shadowing and parton intrinsic transverse momentum <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://broadening.Heavy" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> quark kinematics as given by the NLO pQCD calculation are reported in Section 4. We tuned the PYTHIA event generator in order to reproduce such results for what concerns the c and b quarks transverse momentum distributions (Section 5). Finally, we report the yields and transverse momentum distributions for D and B mesons (Section 6).

Abstract:Heavy flavour production is one of the key components of the HERA II physics programme. While most of the results presented use leptons or the reconstruction of charmed mesons to identify heavy flavour production, both the H1 and ZEUS experiments now have working microvertex detectors that are being used more and more. In this talk I will summarise a selection of the recent results obtained by the two collaborations.

Abstract:In this manuscript, various beauty production measurements using the ALICE detector will be presented. We will show new measurements of non-prompt D$^0$ mesons in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV and beauty-tagged jet production in p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV. The $R_{\mathrm{AA}}$ of beauty-hadron decay electrons in central Pb--Pb collisions and the $v_{2}$ of beauty-hadron decay electrons in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV will also be discussed.

Abstract:Recent results on the hadroproduction of charm and beauty are discussed in the context of the current theoretical and experimental status. The areas covered include production of open charm and beauty particles and charm and beauty quarkonia. Experimental results from both fixed target and colliding beam experiments are presented and compared to theoretical predictions. Predictions based on QCD perturbation theory are generally successful in explaining the shapes of differential cross sections but underestimate the scale of the cross section by factors of 2-3. An exception is production of the vector meson quarkonia which cannot be satisfactorily explained by perturbative processes alone.

Abstract:The excess of high-Q2 events recently observed in deep-inelastic positron-proton scattering at HERA has refuelled speculations on physics beyond the standard model, in particular on low-mass leptoquark-type particles. We review the theoretical framework for leptoquark interactions, and their production and decay at HERA. Bounds on leptoquark masses and couplings, and implications on other experiments are also discussed.

Abstract:In (ultra-)relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the strongly interactingmatter is predicted to undergo a phase transition into a plasma of deconfinedquarks and gluons (QGP) and quarkonia probe different aspects of this medium.However, the medium modification of quarkonium production includes also the contribution of cold nuclear matter effects (CNM), such as shadowing or nuclear break-up in addition to QGP effects. Proton--nucleus collisions, where no QGP is expected, are used to measure cold nuclear matter effects on quarkonium production. Vacuum production of quarkonia is modelled in proton--proton (pp) collisions, which are used as reference for both heavy-ion and proton--nucleus collisions. Besides serving as reference, results in pp collisions represent a benchmark test of QCD based models in both perturbative and non-perturbative regimes. The ALICE detector has unique capabilities at the LHC for measuring quarkonia down to zero transverse momentum. Measurements are carried out at both central and forward rapidity, in the dielectron and dimuon decay channel, respectively. In this contribution the latest quarkonium measurements for various energies and colliding systems, performed by the ALICE Collaboration during the LHC Run-2 period, will be discussed.

Abstract:We describe new QCD fits to diffractive cross sections measured at HERA and we use the parton densities derived from these fits to predict the shape of the dijet mass fraction in double Pomeron exchange at the Tevatron. We discuss the existence of exclusive events in this dijet channel and some prospects are given for the LHC.
