Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this paper, some intrinsic rigidity theorems are given for compact minimal submanifolds in a sphere. In particular, the pinching constant of J. Simons is improved for higher codimensions.

Abstract:In this article, we consider a complete, non-compact almost Hermitian manifold whose curvature is asymptotic to that of the complex hyperbolic space. Under natural geometric conditions, we show that such a manifold arises as the interior of a compact almost complex manifold whose boundary is a strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold. Moreover, the geometric structure of the boundary can be recovered by analysing the expansion of the metric near infinity.

Abstract:We propose and investigate two types, the latter with two variants, of notions of partial hyperbolicity accounting for several classes of compact complex manifolds behaving hyperbolically in certain directions, defined by a vector subbundle of the holomorphic tangent bundle, but not necessarily in the other directions. We study several classes of examples, prove implications among these notions, give a sufficient criterion for the existence of an Ahlfors current and a sufficient criterion for partial hyperbolicity in terms of the signs of two curvature-like objects introduced recently by the second-named author.

Abstract:In this paper, we study some intrinsic characterization of conformally compact manifolds. We show that, if a complete Riemannian manifold admits an essential set and its curvature tends to −1 at infinity in certain rate, then it is conformally compactifiable and the compactified metrics can enjoy some regularity at infinity. As a consequence we prove some rigidity theorems for complete manifolds whose curvature tends to the hyperbolic one in a rate greater than 2.

Abstract:In this work, we investigate the geometry and topology of compact Einstein-type manifolds with nonempty boundary. First, we prove a sharp boundary estimate and as consequence we obtain, under certain hypotheses, that the Hawking mass is bounded from below in terms of area. Then we give a topological classification for its boundary. Finally, we deduce some classification results for compact Einstein-type manifolds with positive constant scalar curvature and assuming a pointwise inequality for the traceless Ricci tensor.

Abstract:In this informal expository note, we quickly introduce and survey compactifications of strata of holomorphic 1-forms on Riemann surfaces, i.e. spaces of translation surfaces. In the last decade, several of these have been constructed, studied, and successfully applied to problems. We discuss relations between their definitions and properties, focusing on the different notions of convergence from a flat geometric perspective.

On Z-compactifiability of manifolds

Abstract:In 1976, Chapman and Siebenmann \cite{CS76} established necessary and sufficient conditions for $\mathcal{Z}$-compactifying Hilbert cube manifolds. While these conditions are known to be necessary for a manifold $M^n$ to admit a $\mathcal{Z}$-compactification, it remains an open question whether these conditions are also sufficient. Guilbault and the author \cite[Thm. 1.2]{GG20} proved that these conditions are sufficient for the product $M^n \times [-2,2]$ $(n\geq 5)$ to be $\mathcal{Z}$-compactifiable. We further explore this topic by introducing additional conditions such that a $\mathcal{Z}$-compactification of $M^n \times [-2,2]$ indeed implies a $\mathcal{Z}$-compactification of $M^n$, thus partially resolving the open question. As applications, it is shown that there exist infinitely many non-pseudo-collarable 4-manifolds which are $\mathcal{Z}$-compactifiable; however, pseudo-collarable manifolds with compact boundary of dimension at least six are $\mathcal{Z}$-compactifiable. Furthermore, we investigate the connection between $\mathcal{Z}$-compactifiability with the topological rigidity of aspherical manifolds. We also construct a noncompact one-sided $s$-cobordism $(W,V,V^{\ast})$ satisfying controlled Mather-Thurston theorems, where $V$ is $\mathcal{Z}$-compactifiable, whereas $V^{\ast}$ may not be.

Abstract:A conformal transformation of a semi-Riemannian manifold is essential if there is no conformally equivalent metric for which it is an isometry. For Riemannian manifolds the existence of an essential conformal transformation forces the manifold to be conformally flat. This is false for pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, however compact examples of conformally curved manifolds with essential conformal transformation are scarce. Here we give examples of compact conformal manifolds in signature with essential conformal transformations that are locally conformally pseudo-Kähler and not conformally flat, where , . The corresponding local pseudo-Kähler metrics obtained by a local conformal rescaling are Ricci-flat.

Abstract:We deal with rigidity results for compact gradient Einstein-type manifolds with nonempty boundaries. As a result, we obtain new characterizations for hemispheres and geodesic balls in simply connected space forms. In dimensions three and five, we obtain topological characterizations for the boundary and upper bounds for its area.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the compactness of a boundary value problem for hyperkaehler 4-manifolds. We show that under certain topological conditions and the positive mean curvature condition on the boundary, a sequence of hyperkaehler triples converges smoothly up to diffeomorphisms if and only if their restrictions to the boundary converge smoothly up to diffeomorphisms. We also generalize this result to torsion-free hypersymplectic triples.

Abstract:. In this note, we give a brief exposition on the recent progress on the geometry and topology of compact complex manifolds with RC-positive tangent bundles, with particular focus on several open problems proposed by S.-T. Yau around 40 years ago. The uniformization theorem demonstrates satis-factorily that: every simply connected Riemann sur-face is isomorphic to one of three Riemann surfaces: the open unit disk D , the complex plane C , or the Riemann sphere S 2 . However, the geometry and topology of higher dimensional complex manifolds are far more complicated, and the classifica-tions of such manifolds are still challenging tasks in modern geometry. As analogous to the geometric properties of three model Riemann surfaces, many terminologies are developed to investigate higher dimensional complex manifolds. For instances, a vari-ety of curvature notions are used in differential geometry, e.g., holomorphic bisectional curvature, holomorphic sectional curvature, Ricci curvature and etc. With the help of the intersection theory, algebraic geometers created many algebraic concepts to de-scribe the geometry of algebraic manifolds, such as ampleness, nefness and so on. On the other hand, it is natural to investigate complex manifolds by ana-lyzing model Riemann surfaces contained in them. The category of algebraic manifolds containing rational curves ( CP 1 ∼ = S 2 ) plays a significant role in alge-* braic geometry, and complex manifolds without entire curves C —so called hyperbolic manifolds—are fundamental in analytical geometry.

Abstract:The zoology of singularities for Lorentzian manifold is slightly more complicated than for Riemannian manifolds. Our present work study Cauchy-compact globally hyperbolic singular flat spacetimes with extreme BTZ-like singular lines. We use the notion of BTZ-extension of a singular spacetime introduced in a previous paper to give a description of Moduli spaces of such manifolds in term of common Teichm{ü}ller spaces. This description is used to construct convex polyhedral cauchy-surface in Cauchy-compact flat spacetimes with BTZ.

Abstract:Previous discoveries of the first author (1984-88) on so-called hyperbolic football manifolds and our recent works (2016-17) on locally extremal ball packing and covering hyperbolic space $\HYP$ with congruent balls had led us to the idea that our "experience space in small size" could be of hyperbolic structure. In this paper we construct an infinite series of oriented hyperbolic space forms so-called cobweb (or tube) manifolds $Cw(2z, 2z, 2z)=Cw(2z)$, $3\le z$ odd, which can describe nanotubes, very probably.
