Abstract:The dominant theoretical uncertainties in both the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the value of the electromagnetic coupling at the Z scale, M(Z), arise from their hadronic contributions. Since these will ultimately dominate the experimental errors, we study the correlation between them, as well as with other fundamental parameters. To this end we present analytical formulas for the QCD contribution from higher energies and from heavy quarks. Including these correlations affects the Higgs boson mass extracted from precision data.

Abstract:Lattice QCD provides a promising method of addressing the elusive non-perturbative aspect of hadronic physics. It may be used in an investigation of underlying quark dynamics which is not based on model dependent calculations. The study of electromagnetic form factors allows a comparison of the predictions of the quark model and the Skyrme model with those of non-perturbative model independent approaches such as Lattice QCD and the QCD Sum Rule method. The first lattice calculations of electroma~etic form factors focussed on the electric form factor of the pion with SU(2) color [I]. These were later extended to SU(3) color [2]. Calculations of the electric form factor of the proton followed [3]. Most recently, both the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton and neutron were calculated [4]. Here the analysis of reference [4] is extended to calculate the electromagnetic form factors of the octet baryons. Electric and magnetic form factors have been calculated (from twoand three-point baryon correlation functions) on a quenched 24 x 12 x 12 x 24 lattice with p = 5.9. A small value of momentum transfer (I&X = 2x/24) was investigated for three values of quark mass (K = 0.152,0.154,0.156). nom these form factors, electric and magnetic charge radii, magnetic moments and magnetic transition moments have been extracted. More details of the method of calculation as outlined in reference j4] are provided in reference [5]. The results illustrate the manner in which quarks account for the electromagnetic structure of baryons. An outstanding problem of hadronic physics has been to explain the magnetic moments of baryons. In figure 1, we have collected recent results of alternative approaches to the strong interaction. The results of SU(6) symmetry, the sum rule approach [S], our lattice calculation, a recent quark model [7], and the Skyrme model [8] are compared to experimental ratios of magnetic moments. (The experimental and sum rule results for Co are obtained using the SU(2) relationship ~E:D = (PC+ + lc-)f2.) The quark model results differ significantly from those of the simple quark model only in the value of the Cmagnetic ratio which has been shifted from -0.391 to -0.505. The quark model (with four parameters) does not reproduce the magnetic moment ratios as well as the sum rule or lattice results. Only the N and A magnetic ratios are accurately reproduced. The Skyrme model (with two parameters) reverses the order of many of the SU(6) partners. The results of the sum rule approach (which has vacuum susceptibility parameters optimized to give the best agreement with experimental magnetic moments) are very similar to those of the lattice with the exception of the 2where non-perturbative and strange-quark mass effects are very large in the sum rule calculation.
Nucleon Magnetic Moments Beyond the Perturbative Chiral Regime

Abstract:The quark mass dependence of nucleon magnetic moments is explored over a wide range. Quark masses currently accessible to lattice QCD, which lie beyond the regime of chiral perturbation theory (chiPT), are accessed via the cloudy bag model (CBM). The latter reproduces the leading nonanalytic behavior of chiPT, while modeling the internal structure of the hadron under investigation. We find that the predictions of the CBM are succinctly described by the simple formula mu(N)(m(pi)) = mu(N)((0))/(1 + am(pi) + beta m(pi)(2)), which reproduces the lattice data, as well as the leading nonanalytic behavior of chiPT. As this form also incorporates the anticipated Dirac moment behavior in the limit m(pi) --> infinity, it constitutes a powerful method for extrapolating lattice results to the physical mass regime. The Coupling Constant of the Pseudovector Pion-nucleon Interaction for the Magnetic Moment of Nucleon

Abstract:The role of the suppression of the coupling constant in the pseudovector pion-nucleon interaction is examined to account for the calculation of the magnetic moment of nucleon. Among three kinds of the higher-order corrections the vacuum polarization of the pion propagator contributes to the numerical value considerably. On the other hand the lowest-order vertex correction for the pion-nucleon-nucleon vertex does not give large effect in the approximation of the on-shell momenta for nucleons.

Abstract:The small mass difference m(n) - m(p) = 1.3 MeV between the proton and neutron leads to an excess of n = pi(-)p over p = pi(+)n fluctuations which can be calculated by using a light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model of intrinsic quark antiquark pairs of the nucleon sea. The Gottfried sum rule violation may partially be explained by isospin symmetry breaking between the proton and neutron and the same effect introduces correction terms to the anomalous magnetic moments and the anomalous weak magnetic moments of the proton and neutron. We also evaluated the strange magnetic moment of the nucleon from the lowest strangeness Kh fluctuation and found a non-trivial influence due to isospin symmetry breaking in the experimental measurements of the strange magnetic moment of the nucleon. Running Coupling and Running Quark Mass Effects on the Elastic Form Factors of Nucleons

Abstract:We study the elastic electric and magnetic form factors of the proton, neutron and the charged roper resonance ($G_E^p$, $G_M^p$, $G_E^n$, $G_M^n$, $G_E^R$ and $G_M^R$) systematically in a constituent quark model. Three ingredients are crucial in this study: i) the mixing between the pure S-wave and other components which produces a nonzero neutron electric form factor. ii) a running coupling constant that soften the form factors. iii) the running quark mass function, $M_q(p^2)$, which is responsible for the decreasing of the $\mu_p G_E^p(Q^2)/G_M^p(Q^2)$ as $Q^2$ increases. The produced elastic form factors of the proton and neutron match the corresponding observed values fairly well. Our study shows that $\mu_p G_E^p(Q^2)/G_M^p(Q^2) \approx M_q(Q^2/9)/M_q(0)$ upto $Q^2 \approx 4 \text{ GeV}^2$. We give predictions on the elastic form factors of the roper resonance, the electric charge and the magnetic momentum radius ratios of the roper resonance to the proton are $r^R_{E}/r^p_{E} \approx r^R_{M}/r^p_{M} \approx 1.5$.

Understanding the Nucleon As a Borromean Bound-State

Abstract:Analyses of the three valence-quark bound-state problem in relativistic quantum field theory predict that the nucleon may be understood primarily as a Borromean bound-state, in which binding arises mainly from two separate effects. One originates in non-Abelian facets of QCD that are expressed in the strong running coupling and generate confined but strongly-correlated colour-antitriplet diquark clusters in both the scalar–isoscalar and pseudovector–isotriplet channels. That attraction is magnified by quark exchange associated with diquark breakup and reformation. Diquark clustering is driven by the same mechanism which dynamically breaks chiral symmetry in the Standard Model. It has numerous observable consequences, the complete elucidation of which requires a framework that also simultaneously expresses the running of the coupling and masses in the strong interaction. Planned experiments are capable of validating this picture.

Abstract:A symmetry-preserving truncation of the quantum field equations describing hadron properties is used to deliver parameter-free predictions for all nucleon elastic electromagnetic form factors and their flavour separation to large values of momentum transfer, $Q^2$. The proton electric form factor, $G_E^p$, possesses a zero, whereas that of the neutron, $G_E^n$, does not. The difference owes to the behaviour of the Pauli form factor of the proton's singly-represented valence $d$-quark. Consequently, $G_E^n>G_E^p$ on a material large-$Q^2$ domain. These predictions can be tested in modern experiments.

Abstract:There is a long-standing discrepancy between different measurements of the electric and magnetic radii of the proton. Lattice QCD calculations are a well-suited tool for theoretical investigations of the structure of the nucleon from first principles. However, all previous lattice studies of the proton's electromagnetic radii have either neglected quark-disconnected contributions or were not extrapolated to the continuum and infinite-volume limit. Here, we present results for the electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron computed on the $(2 + 1)$-flavor Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) ensembles including both quark-connected and -disconnected contributions. From simultaneous fits to the $Q^2$-, pion-mass, lattice-spacing, and finite-volume dependence of the form factors, we determine the electric and magnetic radii and the magnetic moments of the proton and neutron. For the proton, we obtain as our final values $\langle r_E^2 \rangle^p = (0.672 \pm 0.014$ (stat)${} \pm 0.018$ (syst)$)$ fm${}^2$, $\langle r_M^2 \rangle^p = (0.658 \pm 0.012$ (stat)${} \pm 0.008$ (syst)$)$ fm${}^2$, and $\mu_M^p = 2.739 \pm 0.063$ (stat)${} \pm 0.018$ (syst). The magnetic moment is in good agreement with the experimental value, as is the one of the neutron. On the one hand, our result for the electric (charge) radius of the proton clearly points towards a small value, as favored by muonic hydrogen spectroscopy and the recent $ep$-scattering experiment by PRad. Our estimate for the magnetic radius, on the other hand, is well compatible with that inferred from the A1 $ep$-scattering experiment.

Abstract:Recent achievements on the description of nuclear magnetic moments in the framework of covariant density functional theory using PC-PK1 interaction are reviewed by including the corrections from time-odd fields, one-pion exchange current and configuration mixing. By taking F-17 and Tl-207 as examples, the relativistic description for LS closed-shell nuclei and j j closed-shell nuclei plus or minus one nucleon are respectively demonstrated. It has been found that the time-odd fields, the one-pion exchange current and the configuration mixing corrections are important and work together to improve the description of experimental nuclear magnetic moments.

Abstract:Abstract We study the magnetic moments of the octet, decuplet, low-lying charm, and low-lying bottom baryons with nonzero light quarks in symmetric nuclear matter using the quark–meson coupling (QMC) model, which satisfies the constraint for the allowed maximum change (swelling) of the in-medium nucleon size derived from the y-scaling data for 3He(e, e′) and 56Fe(e, e′). This is the first study to estimate the in-medium magnetic moments of the low-lying charm and bottom baryons with nonzero light quarks. The present QMC model also satisfies the expected allowed maximum enhancement of the nucleon magnetic moments in nuclear matter. Moreover, it has been proven that the calculated in-medium to free proton electromagnetic form factor (EMFF) ratios calculated within the QMC model reproduce well the proton EMFF super ratio extracted from $^4{\rm He}(\vec{e},e^{\prime }\vec{p})^3{\rm H}$ at Jefferson Laboratory. The medium modifications of the magnetic moments are estimated by evaluating the in-medium to free space baryon magnetic moment ratios to compensate the MIT bag deficiency to describe the free space octet baryon magnetic moments, where ratios are often measured directly in experiments even without knowing the absolute values, such as the free and bound proton electromagnetic form factors, as well as the European Muon Collaboration effect to extract the structure function F2 ratio of the bound to free nucleons by the corresponding cross section ratio. We also present the results calculated with the different current quark mass values for the strange and bottom quarks to see the possible impact. Furthermore, for practical use we give the explicit density-dependent parametrizations for the vector potentials of the baryons and light-(u, d) quarks, as well as for the effective masses of the baryons treated in this study, and of the mesons ω, ρ, K, K*, η, $\eta^{\prime}$, D, D*, B, and B*.

Coherent interactions of a fast proton with the short-range correlations in the nucleus

Abstract:Nuclear structure at short NN distances is still poorly understood. In particular, the full quantum structure of the nucleus with a correlated NN pair is a challenge to theory. So far, model descriptions have been limited to the average mean-field picture of the remaining nuclear system after removing the NN pair. In the recent experiment of the BM@N Collaboration at JINR [M. Patsyuk et al. , Nat. Phys. 17 , 693 (2021)], the reactions C12(p,2pns)10B and C12(p,2pps)10Be induced by the hard elastic pp scattering were studied. Here, ns or ps denote the undetected slow nucleon in the rest frame of C12 . In contrast to the previous experiments, the residual bound nucleus was also detected which requires a new level of theoretical understanding. In the present work, we apply the technique of fractional parentage coefficients of the translationally invariant shell model to calculate the spectroscopic amplitude of the system NN−B where B is the remaining nuclear system. The spectroscopic amplitude enters the full amplitude of a nuclear reaction. The relative NN−B wave function is no longer a free parameter of the model but is uniquely related to the internal state of B . The interaction of the target proton with the NN pair is considered in the impulse approximation. We also include the initial- and final-state interactions of absorptive type as well as the single charge exchange processes. Abstract:We explain how the emergent phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking ensures that Poincaré covariant analyses of the three valence–quark scattering problem in continuum quantum field theory yield a picture of the nucleon as a Borromean bound-state, in which binding arises primarily through the sum of two separate contributions. One involves aspects of the non-Abelian character of Quantum Chromodynamics that are expressed in the strong running coupling and generate tight, dynamical color-antitriplet quark–quark correlations in the scalar–isoscalar and pseudovector-isotriplet channels. This attraction is magnified by quark exchange associated with diquark breakup and reformation, which is required in order to ensure that each valence–quark participates in all diquark correlations to the complete extent allowed by its quantum numbers. Combining these effects, we arrive at a properly antisymmetrised Faddeev wave function for the nucleon and calculate, e.g. the flavor-separated versions of the Dirac and Pauli form factors and the proton’s leading-twist parton distribution amplitude. We conclude that available data and planned experiments are capable of validating the proposed picture.

Abstract:Neutrons study a number of hot topics from the field of particle physics and cosmology: Recent measurements of various mixed American-British-French-German-Hungarian-Japan-Russian groups of researchers determine the strength of the weak interaction of the neutron, which gives us unique information on quark-mixing and the question of unitarity. Much to our surprise, with neutron-decay we find a deviation Delta = 0.0083(28) from the unitarity condition, an effect that cannot be explained by the current Standard Model of particle physics.
Nucleon Effective E-mass in Neutron-Rich Matter from the Migdal–Luttinger Jump

Abstract:The well-known Migdal-Luttinger theorem states that the jump of the single-nucleon momentum distribution at the Fermi surface is equal to the inverse of the nucleon effective E-mass. Recent experiments studying short-range correlations (SRC) in nuclei using electron-nucleus scatterings at the Jefferson National Laboratory (JLAB) together with model calculations constrained significantly the Migdal-Luttinger jump at saturation density of nuclear matter. We show that the corresponding nucleon effective E-mass is consequently constrained to M-0(*,E)/M approximate to 2.22 +/- 0.35 in symmetric nuclear matter (SNM) and the E-mass of neutrons is smaller than that of protons in neutron-rich matter. Moreover, the average depletion of the nucleon Fermi sea increases (decreases) approximately linearly with the isospin asymmetry delta according to kappa(p/n) approximate to 0.21 +/- 0.06 +/- (0.19 +/- 0.08)delta for protons (neutrons). These results will help improve our knowledge about the space-time non-locality of the single-nucleon potential in neutron-rich nucleonic matter Useful in both nuclear physics and astrophysics. Muon g-2 and a Geocentric New Field

Abstract:Light scalars can in principle couple to both bulk matter and fermion spin, with hierarchically disparate strengths. Storage ring measurements of fermion electromagnetic moments via spin precession can be sensitive to such a force, sourced by Earth. We discuss how this force could lead to the current deviation of the measured muon anomalous magnetic moment, g-2, from the standard model prediction. Due to its different parameters, the proposed J-PARC muon g-2 experiment can provide a direct test of our hypothesis. A future search for the proton electric dipole moment can have good sensitivity for the coupling of the assumed scalar to nucleon spin. We also argue that supernova constraints on the axion-muon coupling may not be applicable in our framework.

Probing into the Possible Range of the U Bosonic Coupling Constants in Neutron Stars Containing Hyperons

Abstract:The range of the U bosonic coupling constants in neutron star matter is a very interesting but still unsolved problem which has multifaceted influences in nuclear physics, particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology. The combination of the theoretical numerical simulation and the recent observations provides a very good opportunity to solve this problem. In the present work, the range of the U bosonic coupling constants is inferred based on the three relations of the mass-radius, mass-frequency and mass-tidal deformability in neutron star containing hyperons using the GM1, TM1 and NL3 parameter sets under the two flavor symmetries of the SU(6) and SU(3) in the framework of the relativistic mean field theory. Combined with observations from PSRs J1614-2230, J0348+0432, J2215-5135, J0952-0607, J0740+6620, J0030-0451, J1748-2446ad, XTE J1739-285, GW170817 and GW190814 events, our numerical results show that the U bosonic coupling constants may tend to be within the range from 0 to 20 GeV$^{-2}$ in neutron star containing hyperons. Moreover, the numerical results of the three relations obtained by the SU(3) symmetry are better in accordance with observation data than those obtained by the SU(6) symmetry. The results will help us to improve the strict constraints of the equation of state for neutron stars containing hyperons.

Abstract:Several phenomena occurring in neutron stars are affected by the elementary excitations that characterize the stellar matter. In particular, low-energy excitations can play a major role in the emission and propagation of neutrinos, neutron star cooling and transport processes. In this paper, we consider the elementary modes in the star region where both proton and neutron components are superfluid. We study the overall spectral functions of protons, neutrons and electrons on the basis of the Coulomb and nuclear interactions. This study is performed in the framework of the Random Phase Approximation, generalized to superfluid systems. The formalism we use ensures that the Generalized Ward's Identities are satisfied. We focus on the coupling between neutrons and protons. On one hand this coupling results in collective modes that involve simultaneously neutrons and protons, on the other hand it produces a damping of the excitations. Both effects are especially visible in the spectral functions of the different components of the matter. At high density while the neutrons and protons tend to develop independent excitations, as indicated by the spectral functions, the neutron-proton coupling still produces a strong damping of the modes.
