Abstract:A characterization of unconditional convergent series is given for the case of sequentially complete locally convex spaces. From it we show that if E is a barrelled space with continuous dual E', then (E', beta(E', E)) contains no copy of (c(0), parallel to.parallel to(infinity)) if and only if every continuous linear operator T : E --> l(1) is both compact and sequentially compact.

Abstract:Let (X, tau(1)) and (Y, tau(2)) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X, and Y', respectively, L (X, Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K (X, Y) be the space of all compact operators of L (X, Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K (X, Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K (X, Y); that is, if the sequence space X has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each; lambda-multiplier WOT-convergent series Sigma(i) T-i in K(X, Y) must be X-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T: (X, tau(1)) --> or (lambda(beta), sigma(lambda(beta),lambda)) is compact. Abstract:We introduce and study two variant JT 2, p and JT G of James Tree space JT . Both spaces are non-Hilbertian, they contain subspaces isomorphic to l 2 , and all such subspaces are complemented. The space JT 2, p is reflexive with an unconditional basis and its non-Hilbertian subspaces contain l p . The space JT G is non-reflexive and its non-Hilbertian subspaces contain c 0 . These examples form the semiclassical basis for an exotic forthcoming construction related to a question of W. Cuellar Carrera, N. de Rancourt and V. Ferenczi.

Abstract:Convex algebraic geometry concerns the interplay between optimization theory and real algebraic geometry. Its objects of study include convex semialgebraic sets that arise in semidefinite programming and from sums of squares. This article compares three notions of duality that are relevant in these contexts: duality of convex bodies, duality of projective varieties, and the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions derived from Lagrange duality. We show that the optimal value of a polynomial program is an algebraic function whose minimal polynomial is expressed by the hypersurface projectively dual to the constraint set. We give an exposition of recent results on the boundary structure of the convex hull of a compact variety, we contrast this to Lasserre's representation as a spectrahedral shadow, and we explore the geometric underpinnings of semidefinite programming duality.

Abstract:We classify the forward dynamics of all (plane) tree-valued Markov chains $(T_n,n \geq 1)$ with uniform backward dynamics. Every such Markov chain is classified by a decorated planar real tree. We also show that under an inhomogeneous rescaling after trimming leaves $(T_n, n\geq 1)$ converges to a random real tree in the Gromov--Prokhorov metric. This generalises and sheds some new light on work by Evans, Grübel and Wakolbinger (2017) on the binary special case.

Abstract:This paper studies duality and optimality conditions for general convex stochastic optimization problems. The main result gives sufficient conditions for the absence of a duality gap and the existence of dual solutions in a locally convex space of random variables. It implies, in particular, the necessity of scenario-wise optimality conditions that are behind many fundamental results in operations research, stochastic optimal control, and financial mathematics. Our analysis builds on the theory of Fréchet spaces of random variables whose topological dual can be identified with the direct sum of another space of random variables and a space of singular functionals. The results are illustrated by deriving sufficient and necessary optimality conditions for several more specific problem classes. We obtain significant extensions to earlier models, for example, on stochastic optimal control, portfolio optimization, and mathematical programming.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Y-convexity, a property which is obtained by considering a real Banach sequence lattice Y instead of $\ell^p$ for a linear operator $T : E \rightarrow X$, where E is a Banach space and X is a Banach lattice. We introduce some vector sequence spaces in order to characterize the Y-convexity of T by means of the continuity of an associated operator $\overline{T}$. Analogous results for Y-concavity are also obtained. Finally, the duality between Y-convexity and $Y^{\times}$-concavity is proven.

Abstract:Analysis and Applications, Ahead of Print. The main focus of this contribution is on the harmonic Bergman spaces [math] on the [math]-homogeneous tree [math] endowed with a family of measures [math] that are constant on the horocycles tangent to a fixed boundary point and turn out to be doubling with respect to the corresponding horocyclic Gromov distance. A central role is played by the reproducing kernel Hilbert space [math] for which we find a natural orthonormal basis and formulae for the kernel. We also consider the atomic Hardy space and the bounded mean oscillation space. Appealing to an adaptation of Calderón–Zygmund theory and to standard boundedness results for integral operators on [math] spaces with Hörmander-type kernels, we determine the boundedness properties of the Bergman projection. Abstract:We provide a new proof of S. Bellenot's characterization of the extreme points of the unit ball $B_J$ of James quasi-reflexive space $J$. We also provide an explicit description of the norm of $J^{**}$ which yields an analogous characterization for the extreme points of $B_{J^{**}}$. In the last part of the paper we describe the set of all extreme points of $B_{J^*}$ and its norm closure. It is remarkable that the descriptions of the extreme points of $B_J$ and $B_{J^*}$ are closely connected.

Abstract:We characterize inclusions of compact noncommutative convex sets with the property that every continuous affine function on the smaller set can be extended to a continuous affine function on the larger set with a uniform bound. As an application of this result, we obtain a simple geometric characterization of (possibly nonunital) operator systems that are dualizable, meaning that their dual can be equipped with an operator system structure. We further establish some permanence properties of dualizability, and provide a large new class of dualizable operator systems. These results are new even when specialized to ordinary compact convex sets.

Modularity "for free" in genome architecture?

Abstract:Background: Recent models of genome-proteome evolution have shown that some of the key traits displayed by the global structure of cellular networks might be a natural result of a duplication-diversification (DD) process. One of the consequences of such evolution is the emergence of a small world architecture together with a scale-free distribution of interactions. Here we show that the domain of parameter space were such structure emerges is related to a phase transition phenomenon. At this transition point, modular architecture spontaneously emerges as a byproduct of the DD process. Results: Although the DD models lack any functionality and are thus free from meeting functional constraints, they show the observed features displayed by the real proteome maps when tuned close to a sharp transition point separating a highly connected graph from a disconnected system. Close to such boundary, the maps are shown to display scale-free hierarchical organization, behave as small worlds and exhibit modularity. Conclusions: It is conjectured that natural selection tuned the average connectivity in such a way that the network reaches a sparse graph of connections. One consequence of such scenario is that the scaling laws and the essential ingredients for building a modular net emerge for free close to such transition.

On almost B-summable double sequence spaces

Abstract:The concept of a four-dimensional generalized difference matrix and its domain on some double sequence spaces was recently introduced and studied by Tuğ and Başar (AIP Conference Proceedings, vol. 1759, 2016) and Tuğ (J. Inequal. Appl. 2017(1):149, 2017). In this present paper, as a natural continuation of (J. Inequal. Appl. 2017(1):149, 2017), we introduce new almost null and almost convergent double sequence spaces [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] as the four-dimensional generalized difference matrix [Formula: see text] domain in the spaces [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], respectively. Firstly, we prove that the spaces [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] of double sequences are Banach spaces under some certain conditions. Then we give an inclusion relation of these new almost convergent double sequence spaces. Moreover, we identify the α-dual, [Formula: see text]-dual and γ-dual of the space [Formula: see text]. Finally, we characterize some new matrix classes [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and we complete this work with some significant results.

On Grothendieck type duality for the space of holomorphic functions of several variables

Abstract:We describe the strong dual space $({\mathcal O} (D))^*$ for the space ${\mathcal O} (D)$ of holomorphic functions of several complex variables over a bounded Lipschitz domain $D$ with connected boundary $\partial D$ (as usual, ${\mathcal O} (D)$ is endowed with the topology of the uniform convergence on the compact subsets of $D$). We identify the dual space with a closed subspace of the space of harmonic functions on the closed set ${\mathbb C}^n\setminus D$, $n>1$, with elements vanishing at the infinity and satisfying the tangential Cauchy-Riemann equations on $\partial D$. In particular, we extend in a way the classical Grothendieck-K{ö}the-Sebastião e Silva duality for the space of holomorphic functions of one complex variable to the multi-dimensional situation. We use the Bochner-Martinelli kernel ${\mathfrak U}_n$ in ${\mathbb C}^n$, $n>1$, instead of the Cauchy kernel over the complex plane ${\mathbb C}$ and we prove that the duality holds true if and only if the space ${\mathcal O} (D)\cap H^1 (D)$ of the Sobolev holomorphic functions over $D$ is dense in ${\mathcal O} (D)$.

A duality for the class of compact $T_1$-spaces

Abstract:We present a contravariant adjunction between compact $T_1$-spaces and a class of distributive lattices which recomprises key portions of Stone's duality and of Isbell's duality among its instantiations. This brings us to focus on $T_1$-spaces, rather than sober spaces, and to identify points in them with minimal prime filters on some base for a $T_1$-topology (which is what Stone's duality does on the base of clopen sets of compact $0$-dimensional spaces), in spite of completely prime filters on the topology (which is what Isbell's duality does on a sober space). More precisely our contravariant adjunction produces a contravariant, faithful and full embedding of the category of compact $T_1$-spaces with arrows given by closed continuous map as a reflective subcategory of a category $\mathsf{SbfL} $ whose objects are the bounded distributive lattices isomorphic to some base of a $T_1$-topological space (e.g. subfits, when the lattices are frames) and whose arrows are given by (what we call) set-like-morphisms (a natural class of morphisms characterized by a first order expressible constraint). Furthermore this contravariant adjunction becomes a duality when one restricts on the topological side to the category of compact $T_2$-spaces with arbitrary continuous maps, and on the lattice-theoretic side to the category of compact, complete, and normal lattices. A nice by-product of the above results is a lattice-theoretic reformulation of the Stone-Čech compactification theorem which we have not been able to trace elsewhere in the literature.

Hyperuniformity in regular trees

Abstract:We study notions of hyperuniformity for invariant locally square-integrable point processes in regular trees. We show that such point processes are never geometrically hyperuniform, and if the diffraction measure has support in the complementary series then the process is geometrically hyperfluctuating along all subsequences of radii. A definition of spectral hyperuniformity and stealth of a point process is given in terms of vanishing of the complementary series diffraction and sub-Poissonian decay of the principal series diffraction near the endpoints of the principal spectrum. Our main contribution is providing examples of stealthy invariant random lattice orbits in trees whose number variance grows strictly slower than the volume along some unbounded sequence of radii. These random lattice orbits are constructed from the fundamental groups of complete graphs and the Petersen graph.
