Abstract:We introduce a novel method to investigate the stability of wave packet dynamics under perturbations of the Hamiltonian. Our approach relies on semiclassical approximations, but is non-perturbative. Two separate contributions to the quantum fidelity are identified: one factor derives from the dispersion of the wave packets, whereas the other factor is determined by the separation of a trajectory of the perturbed classical system away from a corresponding unperturbed trajectory. We furthermore estimate both contributions in terms of classical Lyapunov exponents and find a decay of fidelity that is, generically, at least exponential, but may also be doubly exponential. The latter case is shown to be realised for inverted harmonic oscillators.

Abstract:We establish a uniform-in-scaling error estimate for the asymptotic preserving (AP) scheme proposed by Xu and Wang [Commun. Math. Sci. 21 (2023), pp. 1–23] for the Lévy-Fokker-Planck (LFP) equation. The main difficulties stem not only from the interplay between the scaling and numerical parameters but also the slow decay of the tail of the equilibrium state. We tackle these problems by separating the parameter domain according to the relative size of the scaling parameter ε \varepsilon : in the regime where ε \varepsilon is large, we design a weighted norm to mitigate the issue caused by the fat tail, while in the regime where ε \varepsilon is small, we prove a strong convergence of LFP towards its fractional diffusion limit with an explicit convergence rate. This method extends the traditional AP estimates to cases where uniform bounds are unavailable. Our result applies to any dimension and to the whole span of the fractional power.

Abstract:Many problems in quantum dynamics can be cast as the decay of a single quantum state into a continuum. The time-dependent overlap with the initial state, called the fidelity, characterizes this decay. We derive an analytic expression for the fidelity after a quench to an ergodic Hamiltonian. The expression is valid for both weak and strong quenches, and timescales before finiteness of the Hilbert space limits the fidelity. It reproduces initial quadratic decay and asymptotic exponential decay with a rate which, for strong quenches, differs from Fermi's golden rule. The analysis relies on the statistical Jacobi approximation (SJA), which was originally applied in nearly localized systems, and which we here adapt to well-thermalizing systems. Our results demonstrate that the SJA is predictive in disparate regimes of quantum dynamics.

Uniform large deviations and metastability of random dynamical systems

Abstract:In this paper, we first provide a criterion on uniform large deviation principles (ULDP) of stochastic differential equations under Lyapunov conditions on the coefficients, which can be applied to stochastic systems with coefficients of polynomial growth and possible degenerate driving noises. In the second part, using the ULDP criterion we preclude the concentration of limiting measures of invariant measures of stochastic dynamical systems on repellers and acyclic saddle chains and extend Freidlin and Wentzell's asymptotics theorem to stochastic systems with unbounded coefficients. Of particular interest, we determine the limiting measures of the invariant measures of the famous stochastic van der Pol equation and van der Pol Duffing equation whose noises are naturally degenerate. We also construct two examples to match the global phase portraits of Freidlin and Wentzell's unperturbed systems and to explicitly compute their transition difficulty matrices. Other applications include stochastic May-Leonard system and random systems with infinitely many equivalent classes.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the scaling behavior of the ground-state logarithmic fidelity in the Lipkin–Meshkov–Glick (LMG) model. We find that the logarithmic fidelity shows a different scaling behavior in different phases of the model. It is an extensive quantity in the model's symmetry-broken phase while it behaves intensively in the polarized phase. Moreover, we also find that the logarithmic fidelity shows a singular behavior around the vicinity of the critical point and the critical exponent of the correlation length is also obtained numerically.
A Resolvent Criterion Approach to Strong Decay of a Multilayered Lamé-Heat System

Abstract:We consider a multilayer hyperbolic-parabolic PDE system which constitutes a coupling of 3D thermal - 2D elastic - 3D elastic dynamics, in which the boundary interface coupling between 3D fluid and 3D structure is realized via a 2D elastic equation. Our main result here is one of strong decay for the given multilayered - heat system. That is, the solution to this composite PDE system is stabilized asymptotically to the zero state. Our proof of strong stability takes place in the "frequency domain" and ultimately appeals to the pointwise resolvent condition introduced by Tomilov [45]. This very useful result, however, requires that the semigroup associated with our multilayered FSI system be completely non-unitary (c.n.u). Accordingly, we firstly establish that the semigroup $\{e^{\mathcal {A}t}\}_{t\geq 0}$ is indeed c.n.u., in part by invoking relatively recent results of global uniqueness for overdetermined Lamé systems on nonsmooth domains. Although the entire proof also requires higher regularity results for some trace terms, this \textit{"resolvent criterion approach"} allows us to establish a "classially soft" proof of strong decay. In particular, it avoids the sort of technical PDE multipliers invoked in [9].

Abstract:We investigate fidelity for the quantum evolution of a Bose–Einstein condensate and reveal its general property with a simple model. We find the fidelity decay with time in various ways depending on the form of initial states as well as on mean-field dynamics. When the initial state is a coherent state, the fidelity decays with time in the ways of exponential, Gaussian, and power-law, having a close relation to the classical mean-field dynamics. With the initial state prepared as a maximally entangled state, we find the behavior of fidelity has no classical correspondence and observe a novel behavior of the fidelity: periodic revival, where the period is inversely proportional to the number of bosons and the perturbation strength. An experimental observation of the fidelity decay is suggested.

Let $L$ be a non-negative self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X,\mu)$. We assume that $e^{-tL}$ satisfies a Gaussian upper bound and the Schrödinger operator $e^{itL}$ satisfies an $L^1\to L^\infty$ decay estimate of the form \begin{equation*} \|e^{itL}\|_{L^1\to L^\infty} \lesssim |t|^{-\frac{n}{2}}. \end{equation*} Then for a general class of dispersive semigroup $e^{it\phi(L)}$, where $\phi: \mathbb{R}^+ \to \mathbb{R}$ is smooth, we establish a similar $L^1\to L^\infty$ decay estimate by a suitable subordination formula connecting it with the Schrödinger operator $e^{itL}$. As applications, we derive new Strichartz estimates for several dispersive equations related to Hermite operators, twisted Laplacians and Laguerre operators.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck (VPFP) equation with a small collision frequency $0 < \nu \ll 1$, exploring the interplay between the regularity and size of perturbations in the context of the asymptotic stability of the global Maxwellian. Our main result establishes the Landau damping and enhanced dissipation phenomena under the condition that the perturbation of the global Maxwellian falls within the Gevrey-$\frac{1}{s}$ class and obtain that the stability threshold for the Gevrey-$\frac{1}{s}$ class with $s>s_{\mathrm{k}}$ can not be larger than $\gamma=\frac{1-3s_{\mathrm{k}}}{3-3s_{\mathrm{k}}}$ for $s_{\mathrm{k}}\in [0,\frac{1}{3}]$. Moreover, we show that for Gevrey-$\frac{1}{s}$ with $s>3$, and for $t\ll \nu^{\frac13}$, the solution to VPFP converges to the solution to Vlasov-Poisson equation without collision.

Abstract:Symmetry properties of time correlation functions within the forward–backward semiclassical dynamics (FBSD) approximation are considered. It is shown that FBSD autocorrelation functions of momentum and position-dependent operators satisfy rigorously the time symmetry relation of the quantum mechanical expression. The detailed balance condition follows from this symmetry in the special case where the density is given by the Boltzmann operator. The derived properties are illustrated with numerical simulations on liquid neon.
On a class of multi-fidelity methods for the semiclassical Schrödinger equation with uncertainties

Abstract:In this paper, we study the semiclassical Schrödinger equation with random parameters and develop several robust multi-fidelity methods. We employ the time-splitting Fourier pseudospectral (TSFP) method for the high-fidelity solver, and consider different low-fidelity solvers including the meshless method like frozen Gaussian approximation (FGA) and the level set (LS) method for the semiclassical limit of the Schrödinger equation. With a careful choice of the low-fidelity model, we obtain an error estimate for the bi-fidelity method. We conduct numerous numerical experiments and validate the accuracy and efficiency of our proposed multi-fidelity methods, by comparing the performance of a class of bi-fidelity and tri-fidelity approximations.

Abstract:We study the kinetic mean field Langevin dynamics under the functional convexity assumption of the mean field energy functional. Using hypocoercivity, we first establish the exponential convergence of the mean field dynamics and then show the corresponding $N$-particle system converges exponentially in a rate uniform in $N$ modulo a small error. Finally we study the short-time regularization effects of the dynamics and prove its uniform-in-time propagation of chaos property in both the Wasserstein and entropic sense. Our results can be applied to the training of two-layer neural networks with momentum and we include the numerical experiments.

Abstract:The fidelity is widely used to detect quantum phase transitions, which is characterized by either a sharp change of fidelity or the divergence of fidelity susceptibility in the thermodynamical limit when the phase-driving parameter is across the transition point. In this work, we unveil that the occurrence of exact zeros of fidelity in finite-size systems can be applied to detect quantum phase transitions. In general, the fidelity F(γ,γ̃) always approaches zero in the thermodynamical limit, due to the Anderson orthogonality catastrophe, no matter whether the parameters of two ground states ( γ and γ̃ ) are in the same phase or different phases, and this makes it difficult to distinguish whether an exact zero of fidelity exists by finite-size analysis. To overcome the influence of orthogonality catastrophe, we study finite-size systems with twist boundary conditions, which can be introduced by applying a magnetic flux, and demonstrate that exact zeros of fidelity can be always accessed by tuning the magnetic flux when γ and γ̃ belong to different phases. On the other hand, no exact zero of fidelity can be observed if γ and γ̃ are in the same phase. We demonstrate the applicability of our theoretical scheme by studying concrete examples, including the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, Creutz model, and Haldane model. Abstract:Abstract We develop a Bethe ansatz based approach to study dissipative systems experiencing loss. The method allows us to exactly calculate the spectra of interacting, many-body Liouvillians. We discuss how the dissipative Bethe ansatz opens the possibility of analytically calculating the dynamics of a wide range of experimentally relevant models including cold atoms subjected to one and two body losses, coupled cavity arrays with bosons escaping the cavity, and cavity quantum electrodynamics. As an example of our approach we study the relaxation properties in a boundary driven XXZ spin chain. We exactly calculate the Liouvillian gap and find different relaxation rates with a novel type of dynamical dissipative phase transition. This physically translates into the formation of a stable domain wall in the easy-axis regime despite the presence of loss. Such analytic results have previously been inaccessible for systems of this type.

Universal semiclassical dynamics in disordered two-dimensional systems

Abstract:The dynamics of disordered two-dimensional systems is much less understood than the dynamics of disordered chains, mainly due to the lack of appropriate numerical methods. We demonstrate that a single-trajectory version of the fermionic truncated Wigner approximation (fTWA) gives unexpectedly accurate results for the dynamics of one-dimensional (1D) systems with moderate or strong disorder. Additionally, the computational complexity of calculations carried out within this approximation is small enough to enable studies of two-dimensional (2D) systems larger than standard fTWA. Using this method, we analyze the dynamics of interacting spinless fermions propagating on disordered 1D and 2D lattices. We find for both spatial dimensions that the imbalance exhibits a universal dependence on the rescaled time $t/\xi_W$, where in 2D the time-scale $\xi_W$ follows a stretched-exponential dependence on disorder strength.

Abstract:The aim of the present paper is twofold:We carry on with developing an abstract method for deriving decay estimates on the semigroup associated to non-symmetric operators in Banach spaces as introduced in [10]. We extend the method so as to consider the shrinkage of the functional space. Roughly speaking, we consider a class of operators written as a dissipative part plus a mild perturbation, and we prove that if the associated semigroup satisfies a decay estimate in some reference space then it satisfies the same decay estimate in another—smaller or larger—Banach space under the condition that a certain iterate of the “mild perturbation” part of the operator combined with the dissipative part of the semigroup maps the larger space to the smaller space in a bounded way. The cornerstone of our approach is a factorization argument, reminiscent of the Dyson series.We apply this method to the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation when the spatial domain is either the torus with periodic boundary conditions, or the whole space with a confinement potential. We then obtain spectral gap estimates for the associated semigroup for various metrics, including Lebesgue norms, negative Sobolev norms, and the Monge-Kantorovich-Wasserstein distance W1.

Uniform-in-time propagation of chaos for second order interacting particle systems

Abstract:We study the long time behavior of second order particle systems interacting through global Lipschitz kernels. Combining hypocoercivity method in [37] and relative entropy method in [25], we are able to overcome the degeneracy of diffusion in position direction by controlling the relative entropy and relative Fisher information together. This implies the uniform-in-time propagation of chaos through the strong convergence of all marginals. Our method works at the level of Liouville equation and relies on the log Sobolev inequality of equilibrium of Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation.

Abstract:In this paper, under the hypothesis that ρ is upper bounded, we construct a Lyapunov functional for the multidimensional isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations and show that the weak solutions decay exponentially to the equilibrium state in L2 norm. This can be regarded as a generalization of Matsumura and Nishidaʼs results [A. Matsumura, T. Nishida, in: Computing Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering, vol. V, 1982, pp. 389–406], since our analysis is done in the framework of Lions [P.-L. Lions, Oxford Science Publication, 1998] and Feireisl et al. [E. Fereisl, A. Novotny, H. Petzeltová, J. Math. Fluid Mech. 3 (2001) 358–392], the higher regularity of (ρ,u) and the uniformly positive lower bound of ρ are not necessary in our analysis and vacuum may be admitted. Indeed, the upper bound of the density ρ plays the essential role in our proof.

Abstract:We construct generally applicable short-time perturbative expansions for some fidelities, such as the input-output fidelity, the entanglement fidelity, and the average fidelity. Successive tens of these expansions yield characteristic times for the damping of the fidelities involving successive powers of the Hamiltonian. The: second-order results, which represent the damping rates of the fidelities, are extensively discussed. As an interesting application of these expansions, we use them to study spatially correlated dissipation of quantum bits. Spatial correlations in the dissipation are described by a correlation function. Explicit conditions are derived for independent decoherence and for collective decoherence. [S1050-2947(97)02712-1].
