Abstract:In this paper, we provide a characterization of a large class of transportation-cost inequalities in terms of exponential integrability of the cost function under the reference probability measure. Our results completely extend the previous works by Djellout, Guilin and Wu and Bolley and Villani.

Abstract:In this paper, one investigates the following type of transportation-information $T_cI$ inequalities: $\alpha(T_c(\nu,\mu))\le I(\nu|\mu)$ for all probability measures $\nu$ on some metric space $(\XX, d)$, where $\mu$ is a given probability measure, $T_c(\nu,\mu)$ is the transportation cost from $\nu$ to $\mu$ with respect to some cost function $c(x,y)$ on $\XX^2$, $I(\nu|\mu)$ is the Fisher-Donsker-Varadhan information of $\nu$ with respect to $\mu$ and $\alpha: [0,\infty)\to [0,\infty]$ is some left continuous increasing function. Using large deviation techniques, it is shown that $T_cI$ is equivalent to some concentration inequality for the occupation measure of a $\mu$-reversible ergodic Markov process related to $I(\cdot|\mu)$, a counterpart of the characterizations of transportation-entropy inequalities, recently obtained by Gozlan and L\'eonard in the i.i.d. case . Tensorization properties of $T_cI$ are also derived.
Transportation-cost inequalities for non-linear Gaussian functionals

Abstract:We study concentration properties for laws of non-linear Gaussian functionals on metric spaces. Our focus lies on measures with non-Gaussian tail behaviour which are beyond the reach of Talagrand's classical Transportation-Cost Inequalities (TCIs). Motivated by solutions of Rough Differential Equations and relying on a suitable contraction principle, we prove generalised TCIs for functionals that arise in the theory of regularity structures and, in particular, in the cases of rough volatility and the two-dimensional Parabolic Anderson Model. In doing so, we also extend existing results on TCIs for diffusions driven by Gaussian processes.

Abstract:We continue our investigation on the transportation-information inequalities $W_pI$ for a symmetric markov process, introduced and studied in \cite{GLWY}. We prove that $W_pI$ implies the usual transportation inequalities $W_pH$, then the corresponding concentration inequalities for the invariant measure $\mu$. We give also a direct proof that the spectral gap in the space of Lipschitz functions for a diffusion process implies $W_1I$ (a result due to \cite{GLWY}) and a Cheeger type's isoperimetric inequality. Finally we exhibit relations between transportation-information inequalities and a family of functional inequalities (such as $\Phi$-log Sobolev or $\Phi$-Sobolev).

Using the Girsanov-transformation argument we establish the quadratic transportation cost inequalities for a class of finite-dimensional neutral functional stochastic differential equations and infinite-dimensional neutral functional stochastic partial differential equations under different metrics.

Abstract:The duality theory of the Monge-Kantorovich transport problem is investigated in an abstract measure theoretic framework. Let $(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{F},\mu)$ and $(\mathcal{Y},\mathcal{G},\nu)$ be any probability spaces and $c:\mathcal{X}\times\mathcal{Y}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ a measurable cost function such that $f_1+g_1\le c\le f_2+g_2$ for some $f_1,\,f_2\in L_1(\mu)$ and $g_1,\,g_2\in L_1(\nu)$. Define $\alpha(c)=\inf_P\int c\,dP$ and $\alpha^*(c)=\sup_P\int c\,dP$, where $\inf$ and $\sup$ are over the probabilities $P$ on $\mathcal{F}\otimes\mathcal{G}$ with marginals $\mu$ and $\nu$. Some duality theorems for $\alpha(c)$ and $\alpha^*(c)$, not requiring $\mu$ or $\nu$ to be perfect, are proved. As an example, suppose $\mathcal{X}$ and $\mathcal{Y}$ are metric spaces and $\mu$ is separable. Then, duality holds for $\alpha(c)$ (for $\alpha^*(c)$) provided $c$ is upper-semicontinuous (lower-semicontinuous). Moreover, duality holds for both $\alpha(c)$ and $\alpha^*(c)$ if the maps $x\mapsto c(x,y)$ and $y\mapsto c(x,y)$ are continuous, or if $c$ is bounded and $x\mapsto c(x,y)$ is continuous. This improves the existing results in \cite{RR1995} if $c$ satisfies the quoted conditions and the cardinalities of $\mathcal{X}$ and $\mathcal{Y}$ do not exceed the continuum.

Abstract:For μ : = e V ( x ) d x a probability measure on a complete connected Riemannian manifold, we establish a correspondence between the Entropy-Information inequality Ψ(μ(f^2log f^2))≤μ(|∇f |^2) and the transportation-cost inequality W_2(f^2μ,μ)≤Φ(μ(f^2log f^2)) for μ ( f 2 ) = 1, where Φ and Ψ are increasing functions. Moreover, under the curvature–dimension condition, a Sobolev type HWI (entropy-cost-information) inequality is established. As applications, explicit estimates are obtained for the Sobolev constant and the diameter of a compact manifold, which either extend or improve some corresponding known results.

Abstract:We give a characterization of optimal transport plans for a variant of the usual quadratic transport cost introduced in [33]. Optimal plans are composition of a deterministic transport given by the gradient of a continuously differentiable convex function followed by a martingale coupling. We also establish some connections with Caffarelli's contraction theorem [14].

Abstract:In this paper, the modified logarithmic Sobolev inequalities and transportation cost inequalities for measures with density e − V in ℝ n are established. It is proved by using Prékopa–Leindler inequalities following the idea of Bobkov–Ledoux, but a different type of condition is used which recovers Bakry–Emery criterion. As an application, we establish the modified logarithmic Sobolev and transportation cost inequalities for probability measures $e^{-|x|^p} {\rm{d}}x/Z_p$ with p > 1 in ℝ n , and give out explicit estimates for their constants.

Abstract:An equilibrium model for multiclass and multicriteria stochastic traffic networks with elastic demands was established using variational inequality method under assumptions that the weights of criteria are dependent of classes of travelers, and that cost functions are unsymmetrical.The model generalizes the equilibrium model for stochastic traffic networks of single class of travelers.It was proved that the continuity and strict monotonicity of mappings in the variational model ensure the existence and uniqueness of equilibrium flows,respectively.Generalized travel cost for a road section is affected by demands and traffic flows on other related road sections,and is a function of flows on all roads.This variational inequality is solved with a diagonal algorithm.An example was presented to show the feasibility of the proposed model and the algorithm.

Abstract:We consider the problem of optimal transportation with quadratic cost between a empirical measure and a general target probability on R d , with d $\ge$ 1. We provide new results on the uniqueness and stability of the associated optimal transportation potentials , namely, the minimizers in the dual formulation of the optimal transportation problem. As a consequence, we show that a CLT holds for the empirical transportation cost under mild moment and smoothness requirements. The limiting distributions are Gaussian and admit a simple description in terms of the optimal transportation potentials.

Abstract:An optimization model is developed to solve the deterministic traffic assignment problem under congested transport networks with cost functions that have an asymmetric Jacobian. The proposed formulation is a generalization of Beckmann's transformation that can incorporate network links with multivariate vector cost functions to capture the asymmetric interactions between the flows and costs of the different links. The objective function is built around a line integral that generalizes the simple definite integral in Beckmann's transformation and is parameterised to ensure the solution of the new problem satisfies Wardrop's first principle of network equilibrium. It is shown that this method is equivalent to the variational inequality approach. Our new approach could be extended to supply‐demand equilibria models in other markets than transportation, with complementary or substitute goods/services in which there are asymmetric interactions between prices.

Abstract:We give by simple arguments sufficient conditions, so called Lyapunov conditions, for Talagrand's transportation information inequality and for the logarithmic Sobolev inequality. Those sufficient conditions work even in the case where the Bakry-Emery curvature is not lower bounded. Several new examples are provided.

Abstract:Based on measure transportation ideas and the related concepts of center-outward quantile functions, we propose multiple-output center-outward generalizations of the traditional univariate concepts of Lorenz and concentration functions, and the related Gini and Kakwani coefficients. These new concepts have a natural interpretation, either in terms of contributions of central ("middle-class") regions to the expectation of some variable of interest, or in terms of the physical notions of work and energy, which sheds new light on the nature of economic and social inequalities. Importantly, the proposed concepts pave the way to statistically sound definitions, based on multiple variables, of quantiles and quantile regions, and the concept of "middle class," of high relevance in various socio-economic contexts.

Abstract:We introduce a new class of distances between nonnegative Radon measures in Euclidean spaces. They are modeled on the dynamical characterization of the Kantorovich-Rubinstein-Wasserstein distances proposed by Benamou-Brenier and provide a wide family interpolating between the Wasserstein and the homogeneous (dual) Sobolev distances. From the point of view of optimal transport theory, these distances minimize a dynamical cost to move a given initial distribution of mass to a final configuration. An important difference with the classical setting in mass transport theory is that the cost not only depends on the velocity of the moving particles but also on the densities of the intermediate configurations with respect to a given reference measure. We study the topological and geometric properties of these new distances, comparing them with the notion of weak convergence of measures and the well established Kantorovich-Rubinstein-Wasserstein theory. An example of possible applications to the geometric theory of gradient flows is also given.
