Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage technology, with its ability to effectively solve the mismatch between energy supply and demand, holds considerable promise. Magnesium carbonate/magnesium oxide (MgCO3/MgO) in particular has shown broad prospects due to its high energy density and trans-regional storage capability. However, pure MgO has limited activity in the exothermic process, with a conversion rate of less than 2%. In this work, activity enhancement of MgCO3/MgO was investigated by combining chemical modification of alkali nitrates and physical morphology regulation. The results indicate that the activation effect of dopants on inert MgO depends on the electronegativity of the cation and the thermal stability of compound dopants. In particular, Na0.5K0.5NO3 with a molar ratio of 1:0.1 promotes MgO carbonation, resulting in a conversion rate of up to 67.5% and an exothermic density of 1964.25kJ/kg at 320°C. The enhanced activity is attributed to the melting of dopants that induces lattice distortion of the perfect crystal, hereby accelerating the chemical reaction. Additionally, the utilization of finely grained rod-like nanocrystalline magnesia precursor with a high specific surface area increased the adsorption capacity. Consequently, the synthesis of mesoporous MgO through the sol–gel method successfully broke through the CO2 adsorption of MgO carrier, achieving a conversion rate of 72.5% and a exothermic density of 2109.75kJ/kg MgO. During 20 release-storage cycles of the MgCO3/MgO TCES carrier, the conversion rate initially degraded significantly and eventually stabilized at approximately 25%. Overall, these methods provide a guiding principle for the preparation of thermochemical energy storage carriers in subsequent applications.

Abstract:A novel 0-3 type (Bi0.32Sr0.42Na0.20)TiO3/MgO composite is investigated in this work, which possesses a high stored energy storage density w(s)(similar to)2.50 J/cm(3), recoverable energy storage density W(R)(similar to)2.09 J/cm(3) with high efficiency eta(similar to)84% under low electric field (20 kV/mm). The excellent performance is owning to the increase of breakdown strength (BDS) value and the intrinsic mechanism for enhanced BDS value by MgO incorporation is disclosed by numerical simulations (COMSOL). Moreover, the studied composite exhibits excellent charge-discharge performance, the current density (C-D) and power density (P-D) are 1671 A/cm(2) and 150 MW/cm(3), respectively, which are much superior to that of other ceramics. Besides, most of the stored energy is discharged within (similar to)0.15 mu s via charge-discharge tests. This work not only provides a novel technique to designing bismuth based ceramic capacitors with simultaneously high W-d,W- eta and excellent charge-discharge performance, but also deepens the understandings of the role for the metallic oxide in the composite.
Enhancing cyclic durability in CaO-based thermochemical energy storage by Zr–Y co-doping: Mechanistic insights

Abstract:The CaCO 3 /CaO materials are promising materials for thermochemical energy storage . However, they suffer from rapidly decreasing energy storage density over multiple calcination/carbonation cycles. This paper aims to select suitable inert supports with cyclic stability enhancement for the calcium looping (CaL) process at high carbonation reaction temperatures (>800 °C). Firstly, four metallic elements (Zr, Mn, Y and Ce) were selected, and a single-doping strategy was used to screen out single-doping inert supports. By comparison, the 20Ca–Zr had the best energy storage performance, with an energy storage density ( Eg,N=30 ) of 1744.72 kJ/kg after 30 cycles. Subsequently, the co-doping method was applied to further screen out co-doped combinations with long-term cyclic stability potential. The Zr was co-doped with Mn, Y and Ce, respectively. Among them, the 20Ca-0.5Zr-0.5Y displayed the best cyclic stability with an average energy storage density ( Eg,av ) of 1950.69 kJ/kg in 30 cycles. Based on the chosen Zr–Y co-doped CaO-based composite, the doping concentration optimization and multiple cycles tests were carried out. The effective conversion ( Xeff ) of 10Ca-0.5Zr-0.5Y decreased by only 4.9 % after 60 cycles. Therefore, the Zr–Y co-doped CaO-based composite, possessing robust sintering resistance effects, is promising for long-term TCES technology.

Abstract:Herein, a high-entropy layered oxide (HEO) is proposed as an outstanding cathode material for long-life sodium-ion batteries. Based on the self-segregation of elements from surface to bulk phase, a multi-element gradient doped high-entropy cathode material is prepared by doping steel slag with available elements (Mg, Al, Si, Fe, Ca). The surface high-entropy region vastly improves the air stability of materials and reduces surface impurities and side reactions. The Na-O-Mg configuration of near-surface high-entropy region continuously stimulates the anionic redox activity, and the DEMS shows the high-strength Al-O bonding achieves zero oxygen release. Therefore, the LNSM-0.01 reveals a stable capacity of similar to 24 mA h g(-1) in the range of 4.0-4.5 V. The Ca2+ in bulk phase high-entropy region disrupts the Na+/vacancy ordering transition and enhances the kinetic performance (90 mA h g(-1) at 1000 mA g(-1)), while Fe2+/3+ provides a large amount number of charge compensation. Further, DFT calculations prove that the entropy stability based on synergistic effect immeasurably reinforce the layered oxide configuration, building a more robust structural framework during cycling. This work deepens the understanding on multi-element gradient doping to prepare HEOs, and provides a novel pathway for resource utilization of solid waste.

Abstract:Metal oxides as high-temperature thermochemical energy storage systems with high energy density based on the gas-solid reaction are a critical demand for the future development of concentrated solar power plants. A copper-based system has high enthalpy change and low cost, but its serious sintering leads to poor reactivity. In this study, MgCr2O4 is decorated on the CuO/Cu2O surface to effectively increase the sintering temperature and alleviate the sintering problem. The re-oxidation degree is increased from 46 to 99.9%, and the reaction time is shortened by 3.7 times. The thermochemical energy density of storage and release reach -818.23 and 812.90 kJ/kg, respectively. After 600 cycles, the oxidation activity remains 98.77%. Material characterization elucidates that nanosized MgCr2O4 is uniformly loaded on the surface of CuO/Cu2O during the reversible reaction, and there is a strong interaction between metal oxides and prompter. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation further confirms that CuO/Cu2O-MgCr2O4 has large binding energy and the formation energy of copper vacancy increases, which can effectively inhibit sintering. The modification mechanism of CuO/Cu2O by MgCr2O4 is revealed, which can provide guidance for the reasonable design of thermochemical energy storage materials with sintering resistance and redox activity.
Self-compensation and attenuation mechanisms of carbide slag in multicycle thermochemical heat storage

Abstract:Utilizing industrial solid waste carbide slag for thermochemical heat storage presents an inexpensive and highenergy-storage-density solution with potential industrial applications. Investigating the performance of carbide slag in thermochemical heat storage cycles can offer insights for efficient resource utilization within the field of heat storage. This study examined the characteristics of cyclic heat storage (dehydration) and heat release (hydration) of carbide slag by establishing a multicycle thermochemical heat storage experimental system combined with advanced characterization techniques. We found that carbide slag underwent complete dehydration and incomplete hydration. The decrease in pore volume within the 3-11 nm pore size range in the dehydrated carbide slag product was the primary cause for the diminishing hydration conversion with increasing cycles. The change in the Ca(OH)2 content, serving as an effective thermochemical heat storage material within the carbide slag, primarily resulted from the gain effect of CaCO3 conversion and the loss effect of incomplete CaO hydration. Based on this phenomenon, we proposed the mechanisms of self-compensation and attenuation of carbide slag during thermochemical heat storage cycles using nitrogen as the direct-contact heat transfer fluid. When air (containing 400 ppm CO2) was used as the direct-contact heat transfer fluid, the thermochemical heat storage capacity of the carbide slag decreased from the initial 805.2 J/g to 205.7 J/g after 20 cycles. Our findings provide valuable guidance for regulating the multicycle heat-storage performance of carbide slag.
Investigation on YSZ- and SiO2-Doped Mn-Fe Oxide Granules Based on Drop Technique for Thermochemical Energy Storage

Abstract:The Mn-Fe oxide material possesses the advantages of abundant availability, low cost, and non-toxicity as an energy storage material, particularly addressing the limitation of sluggish reoxidation kinetics observed in pure manganese oxide. However, scaling up the thermal energy storage (TCES) system poses challenges to the stability of the reactivities and mechanical strength of materials over long-term cycles, necessitating their resolution. In this study, Mn-Fe granules were fabricated with a diameter of approximately 2 mm using the feasible and scalable drop technique, and the effects of Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) and SiO2 doping, at various doping ratios ranging from 1-20 wt%, were investigated on both the anti-sintering behavior and mechanical strength. In a thermal gravimetric analyzer, the redox reaction tests showed that both the dopants led to an enhancement in the reoxidation rates when the doping ratios were in an appropriate range, while they also brought about a decrease in the reduction rate and energy storage density. In a packed-bed reactor, the results of five consecutive redox tests showed a similar pattern to that in a thermal gravimetric analyzer. Additionally, the doping led to the stable reduction/oxidation reaction rates during the cyclic tests. In the subsequent 120 cyclic tests, the Si-doped granules exhibited volume expansion with a decreased crushing strength, whereas the YSZ-doped granules experienced drastic shrinkage with an increase in the crushing strength. The 1 wt% Si and 2 wt% Si presented the best synthetic performance, which resulted from the milder sintering effects during the long-term cyclic tests.
Decomposition Performance and Kinetics Analysis of Magnesium Hydroxide Regulated with C/N/Ti/Si Additives for Thermochemical Heat Storage

Abstract:MgO/Mg(OH)2 is a potential thermochemical material with high heat density and stable characteristics. Four additives including Carbons, Carbides, Nitrides and Titanates were selected for modification. The decomposition behavior and kinetics analysis were both investigated. It is found that Titanates has a catalytic effect, and the tested energy storage density can be increased to 971 J/g. The spectral absorption of candidate material with 6% graphite can reach to more than 50% and 6% CaTiO3 has an extremely high absorption in the short wave segment. In microscopic morphology, Mg(OH)2 particles sintered at high temperature will form adhesion agglomeration. Due to the special microstructures of candidate materials, agglomeration phenomenon is effectively alleviated and the candidate materials with 6% graphite or CaTiO3 are both ideal modified materials. The optimized mechanism of modified material with 6% CaTiO3 was illustrated by model. To investigate the kinetics mechanism, the model of non-isothermal decomposition was developed. The activation energies of pure material, sample with 6%graphite and sample with 6%CaTiO3 are 141 kJ/kg, 113 kJ/kg and 122 kJ/kg respectively. The shape factor polynomials and kinetic governing equations were obtained. According to the established kinetics equations, the heating processes at 8 K, 12 K and 25 K/min were predicted. The study can provide a necessary kinetics reference for the numerical calculation of thermochemical heat storage.
Structure-activity Relationship Between Pore Morphology and Thermochemical Energy Storage Properties Based on MgCO3/MgO

Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) is a pivotal technology for addressing the space-time mismatches in energy supply and demand. MgCO 3 /MgO carrier offers the advantages of high energy density, seasonal storage capability, and abundant nontoxic reserves. However, it is encumbered by poor exothermic activity and kinetic irreversibility. In this study, innovative preparation approaches for MgCO 3 /MgO have been developed, involving the regulation of physical morphology, so as to reveal the structure-activity relationship between pore morphology and TCES properties. The results indicate that SD-cotton-MgO (MgO prepared by structure-directing agent, cotton) could carbonate up to 76.98 %, facilitated by its mesopores that aid in the transport of reactants. SGSC-MgO (MgO prepared by sol -gel self -combustion method) exhibits the fastest reaction rate at the initial stage, with a rate of 593.1 mu mol/min/g adsorbent because distributed macropores expose the other nanopores. As for SD-CPM-MgO (MgO prepared by structure-directing agent, carboniferous polysaccharide microsphere), owning to long pore distance of micropores hindering CO 2 diffusion, its kinetics gradually decreases as the CPM size decreases. Porous media with mixed aperture could exhibit strong kinetic performance. Furthermore, the heat storage density and maximum power of SD-cotton-MgO increase as the endothermic temperature rises, achieving a peak energy density of 1385.7 kJ/kg MgCO 3 at 400 degrees C. Still, its heat release density increases and then decreases with exothermic temperature, reaching 1964.3 kJ/kg MgO at 320 degrees C. Finally, the cycle stability is contingent on the activation of the chemical modification for the first heat release and antidegradation of the physical structure for subsequent cycles. SD-cotton-MgO doped with Na 0.5 K 0.5 NO 3 maintains at 50 % after 30 cycles, exhibiting no collapse or agglomeration due to its robust porous structure with strong thermal stability and permeability.

Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) holds significant promise owing to its remarkable energy storage density and extended storage capabilities. One of the most extensively studied systems in TCES involves the reversible hydration/dehydration reaction of magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH) 2 ) to magnesium oxide (MgO). This system suffers from several challenges such as the dehydration temperature of 360 °C, which is considered higher for some applications, low kinetics, and conversion fraction, in addition to the conversion decay after cycles. Nonetheless, it is essential to recognize that each material within thermochemical systems has distinct operational requirements, including temperature and pressure conditions, making them suitable for specific applications. Consequently, the development of materials is a pivotal factor in expanding the effectiveness of sustainable technologies. This research addresses challenges associated with the reversible reaction by partially substituting Mg with transition metal elements like Zn, Ni, Mn, Co, and Cu, leading to the development of new materials Mg 1-x M x (OH) 2 with x = 0.05. The results indicate successful synthesis of hydroxide systems through coprecipitation. Morphological analysis reveals that material morphology plays a significant role in the performance of thermochemical systems. Additionally, the developed materials demonstrate a reduction in dehydration temperature, reaching 295 °C with cobalt doping. There is also an increase in the conversion reaction, with a 10 % improvement in energy density recorded for the material doped with 5 % Zn. Lastly, the developed materials exhibit good cyclability performance for up to 6 cycles.

Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) based on the carbonation/decarbonation cycle of metal oxide/carbonate is an attractive technology to address the intermittent problems of renewable energy and to recover industrial waste heat. The alkali metal salt-promoted MgO-based sorbent materials are promising for TCES at intermediate temperatures but suffer from severe thermal instability owing to the high decarbonation temperature of MgCO3 in pure CO2. In this study, we for the first time reported a novel Cd-Mg looping whereby CdO and MgCO3 with the aid of molten NaNO3 can be rapidly and reversibly converted into CdMg(CO3)(2) through carbonation/partial decarbonation, which enabled a low working temperature and thus enhanced the stability of the NaNO3-promoted Cd-Mg containing materials. The effect of Cd/Mg atomic ratio on the property, activity and stability of the materials was systematically studied; moreover, the carbonation/decarbonation mechanism was carefully explored. The promising candidate containing equimolar amounts of Cd and Mg can not only perform stable intermediate-temperature TCES in 100 cycles, but also convert the low-concentration waste CO2 in integrated gasification combined cycle power plants into pure CO2. These findings offer new opportunities for TCES and CO2 capture at intermediate temperatures.
Alkali Metal Nitrates Promoted MgO Composites with High CO2 Uptake for Thermochemical Energy Storage

Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) by means of reversible chemical reactions represents a promising strategy for harnessing renewable energy and recovering industrial waste heat. In this work, alkali metal nitrate promoted MgO composites were synthesized, and the MgO-CO2 working pair was suggested as an alternative candidate for harvesting intermediate-temperature industrial waste heat. However, it remains unclear how operating parameters would affect the heat storage density, and the long-term cycling stability of the alkali metal nitrate promoted MgO composites under harsh conditions close to practical application scenarios needs to be clarified. The objectives of this work are to expound the effects of operating parameters on TCES performance and to evaluate the long-term cycling stability of the alkali metal nitrate promoted MgO composites. With increasing NaNO3 content, the heat storage density of NaNO3-MgO increases dramatically first and then exhibits no significant change. With rising carbonation temperature, the heat storage density of the 10NaNO(3)-MgO composite increases first and then declines marginally, while it increases with the increasing CO2 partial pressure. Doping alkali metal nitrate eutectic mixtures adversely affects the heat storage density. 10NaNO(3)-MgO exhibits a high heat storage density of 2291 kJ/kg at 340 degrees C in 100% CO2. The 10NaNO(3)-MgO and 10(K-Na)NO3-MgO composites suffer a significant decline in heat storage density within 10 consecutive cycles, while 10(Li-Na)NO3-MgO retains good stability with a slight decrease of heat storage density from 1073 to 770 kJ/kg in 50% CO2. The desired 10(Li-Na)NO3-MgO is suggested as a promising material for TCES application.

Changing the surface properties promotes the formation of porous structure, and changing its crystal structure introduces vacancies to accelerate oxygen diffusion. The constructed oxygen vacancy‐rich porous Cu2MgO3/Mg0.78Cu0.22O composite retains 99.9% and 97.1% reactivity after 3000 cycles.

Abstract:CaO-based materials have been considered as the viable high-temperature thermal battery for concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. However, natural CaO-based materials have poor mechanical strength, optical properties and anti-sintering ability, which limits their applications. With the aim of enhancing the energy storage performance of CaO-based materials, the Co/Al-doped carbide slag pellets were prepared by tunable coating strategy in this work. The effects of bamboo powder, Al doping amount and Co doping modes on the energy storage, mechanical and optical properties of the composites were investigated. The Ca/Al molar ratio and the impregnation time in Co solution of the optimal material are 100:10 and 20 min, respectively. After 50 cycles, the energy storage density of optimal material is 989 kJ/kg, which is 1.67 times higher than that of unmodified carbide slag. The solid-phase reaction between CaO and Al 2 O 3 produces Ca 12 Al 14 O 33 . Ca 12 Al 14 O 33 inhibits the growth of CaO grains and improves sintering resistance. Ca 3 Co 2 O 6 is a stable phase formed by Co 2 O 3 and CaO, which improves the optical absorption of CaO-based materials but exacerbates the sintering of CaO. Compared with the homogeneous strategy, Co/Al-doped carbide slag pellets by coating strategy has a structure with the Al-doped internal core and the Co-rich external shell, which combines the advantages of high cycle stability and high optical absorptivity. The average mechanical strength and optical absorption of optimal material are 4.2 and 4.17 times higher than those of unmodified carbide slag, respectively. Therefore, the novel material has a good application prospect in the CaO-based energy storage system.

Abstract:Calcium looping is a potential thermochemical energy storage technology applied in a high-temperature working window. However, CaCO3/CaO materials are prone to encounter severe sintering, exhibiting poor thermal energy storage/release stability. To improve the thermochemical energy storage stability, different amounts (5, 15, and 30 wt %) of a Zr-based stabilizer were incorporated into CaCO3/CaO materials. Moreover, the graphite-casting method was adopted to prepare the Zr-stabilized, CaO-based composite pellets aiming to improve the practicability. The incorporation of the Zr-based stabilizer can effectively resist the sintering of CaO-based composite powders during a high-temperature precalcination process. It is mainly attributed to the large amounts of generated, nanosized CaZrO3 grains possessing desirable antisintering ability evenly distributed within the composites. Particularly, the Zr-stabilized, CaO-based composite pellets containing 30 wt % of CaZrO3 possess a relatively high compression strength of 2.28 ± 0.87 MPa and a desirable thermal storage density of 1.15 GJ/t after 20 cycles. Additionally, the graphite-casted, Zr-stabilized, CaO-based composite pellets have potential to be applied in a large-scale thermochemical energy storage system because the graphite-casting method is easy to be scaled-up.

Alkali Metal Nitrates Promoted MgO Composites with High CO 2 Uptake for Thermochemical Energy Storage

Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) by means of reversible chemical reactions represents a promising strategy for harnessing renewable energy and recovering industrial waste heat. In this work, alkali metal nitrate promoted MgO composites were synthesized, and the MgO–CO2 working pair was suggested as an alternative candidate for harvesting intermediate-temperature industrial waste heat. However, it remains unclear how operating parameters would affect the heat storage density, and the long-term cycling stability of the alkali metal nitrate promoted MgO composites under harsh conditions close to practical application scenarios needs to be clarified. The objectives of this work are to expound the effects of operating parameters on TCES performance and to evaluate the long-term cycling stability of the alkali metal nitrate promoted MgO composites. With increasing NaNO3 content, the heat storage density of NaNO3–MgO increases dramatically first and then exhibits no significant change. With rising carbonation temperature, the heat storage density of the 10NaNO3–MgO composite increases first and then declines marginally, while it increases with the increasing CO2 partial pressure. Doping alkali metal nitrate eutectic mixtures adversely affects the heat storage density. 10NaNO3–MgO exhibits a high heat storage density of 2291 kJ/kg at 340 °C in 100% CO2. The 10NaNO3–MgO and 10(K–Na)NO3–MgO composites suffer a significant decline in heat storage density within 10 consecutive cycles, while 10(Li–Na)NO3–MgO retains good stability with a slight decrease of heat storage density from 1073 to 770 kJ/kg in 50% CO2. Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) is a promising technology to overcome solar intermittency and volatility. However, weak solar absorption, poor cyclic stability for calcium carbonates, and cost issues for metal oxides hinder the applicability of these materials for thermochemical energy storage. Herein, an advanced, affordable, and effective TCES system is proposed, and the corresponding calcium carbonate-metal oxide synergistic material is designed with improved solar absorption and cyclic stability. The optimum molar ratio is Ca:Co:Mn:Mg = 100:20:7.5:5 for the synergistic material fabricated by the modified sol–gel method, where Ca element plays the primary role in heat storage, Co element serves as the primary optical performance enhancer and secondary heat storage component, and Mn/Mg elements act as the secondary performance modifiers. The solar absorptivity is boosted to ∼79.3%, and the heat storage density is 1295 kJ/kg after 30 high-temperature cycles, which are 6 times and 2.2 times higher than those of commercial calcium carbonate, respectively. Homogeneous mixing of modifiers at the microscale and stable, well-developed pore structure are critical factors for cyclic stability enhancement. The change of electronic structure on the Fermi level caused by Co/Mn ion doping is the key to optical absorption improvement, and the promoting amplitude exhibits wavelength dependence. This work expands the limited list of currently available TCES materials and the comprehensive description of optical properties offers guidance for future implementation of TCES materials with high solar absorption in specific wavelengths.
Entropy-induced high-density grain boundaries in Co-free high-entropy spinel oxides for highly reversible lithium storage

Abstract:Transition metal oxides (TMOs) with high discharge capacity are considered as one of the most promising anodes for lithium-ion batteries. However, the practical utilization of TMOs is largely limited by cycling stability issues arising from volume expansion, structural collapse. In this study, we synthesized a high-entropy spinel oxide material (FeCrNiMnZn)3O4 using a solution combustion method. With the implementation of five cations through high-entropy engineering, the agglomeration and expansion of the electrode materials during charging and discharging are suppressed, and the cycling stability is enhanced. The results demonstrate that entropy-induced high-density grain boundaries and the reversibility of spinel structure contribute to improved capacity and cycling stability. Herein, (FeCrNiMnZn)3O4 provides a high capacity (1374 mAh g-1) at 0.1 A g-1 and superior cycling stability (almost 100 %) during 200 cycles with a current density of 0.5 A g-1. The study provides valuable understanding for designing the high entropy oxides anode electrodes.
Designing Calcium-Looping Composites Based on Lattice Energy and Phase Combination/separation for Thermochemical Energy Storage

Abstract:The cyclic stability enhancement of the CaO/CaCO3 thermochemical energy storage system is crucial for hightemperature thermal utilization of solar energy. In this study, we successfully enhance the long-term durability of calcium-looping composites by co-doping TiO2 and MgCl2 based on lattice energy and phase combination/separation mechanism. According to molecular dynamics simulations of metallic oxides, TiO2 shows higher thermal stability and better doping effects in calcium-looping materials. Further experiments indicate that the phase combination mechanism acting on high-valance metallic oxides like TiO2 can promote cyclic stability of calcium-looping materials. The calcium-based composite doped with 10 mol% TiO2 prepared by wet-mixing method exhibits high energy storage performance in 15 cycles. MgCl2 is also used as a dopant to improve cyclic stability of the calcium-based composite in long-term cycles further. The energy storage performance of the composite doped with 5 mol% TiO2 and 5 mol% MgCl2 is superior to single-doped composites. The average effective conversion ratio is 0.54 in 100 cycles and the energy storage densities are close to 1000 kJ/kg in most of the calcination/carbonation cycles. Microstructure characterizations indicate that the co-doped composite has abundant micropores and smaller particles with the more uniform size distribution. The modification mechanism at atomic scale will serve as guidelines for dopant selection preliminarily, and the novel TiO2/MgCl2 co-doped calcium-based composite is promising for long-term industrial applications, such as high-temperature thermal utilization of solar energy.

Abstract:Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) materials have garnered significant attention in recent years, owing to their high energy storage density and extended storage capabilities. Ferromanganese oxide is considered a promising material for TCES due to its suitable reaction temperature. However, efficiency tends to decrease over repeated cycles due to the particle agglomeration during the oxidation process. This work investigates the mechanism in which the low surface energy of the system reduces the agglomeration force of particles, thereby preventing sintering. By doping low-surface energy materials, the particle size is maintained at 3.2 μm and the reoxidation efficiency remains at 99.8% even after the 100th cycle. The study highlights the potential of Fe2O3, (Mn0.95Si0.05)2O3, and Mn2P2O7 in enhancing the efficiency of TCES materials during prolonged operation.
