Abstract:Rechargeable aqueous zinc‐manganese oxide (Zn-MnO x ) batteries have been extensively studied as high-safety, low-cost, and high-performance energy storage devices. In the deposition/dissolution mechanism, MnO has emerged as a promising cathode material due to its ability to spontaneously dissolve and provide capacity by generating Mn 2+ . Herein, Cu/MnO@C with high spontaneous dissolution characteristics is synthesized by high-temperature solid-state method, using valence state engineering to modulate the local electronic structure. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed that Cu doping enhanced the conductivity of the material, formed non-uniform localized electronic states, increased the number of active sites, enhanced the formation energy, and improved the spontaneous dissolution performance of the material. Furthermore, the disordered carbon/amorphous carbon derived from MOF can provide an efficient conductive network and more reactive sites to promote the material's intrinsic dissolution performance. The Cu/MnO@C exhibited excellent rate performance, delivering a reversible capacity of 104.2 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 and outstanding cycling stability with a remaining reversible capacity of 98.26 % after 2000 cycles at 1 A g −1 . Based on the deposition/dissolution mechanism, this work provides a new perspective on the design of high-performance manganese-based oxide cathodes and energy storage mechanism research.
