Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this paper, we study strongly Gauduchon metrics on compact complex manifolds. We study the cohomology cones 𝒮𝒢 in the de Rham cohomology groups generated by all strongly Gauduchon metrics and its direct images under proper modifications. We also study the moduli of strongly Gauduchon manifolds. We prove an existence result of strongly Gauduchon metrics on a compact complex manifold which is fibered over a compact complex curve. In particular, if a compact complex manifold 𝒳 has a topologically essential fibration over a compact complex curve, and if the generic fibers satisfy the ∂∂̅ -lemma, then 𝒳 admits strongly Gauduchon metrics.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce notions of nonlinear stabilities for a relative ample line bundle over a holomorphic fibration and define the notion of a geodesic-Einstein metric on this line bundle, which generalize the classical stabilities and Hermitian-Einstein metrics of holomorphic vector bundles. We introduce a Donaldson type functional and show that this functional attains its absolute minimum at geodesic-Einstein metrics, and we also discuss the relations between the existence of geodesic-Einstein metrics and the nonlinear stabilities of the line bundle. As an application, we will prove that a holomorphic vector bundle admits a Finsler-Einstein metric if and only if it admits a Hermitian-Einstein metric, which answers a problem posed by S. Kobayashi.

Abstract:Given a Hermitian manifold (Mn, g), the Gauduchon connections are the one parameter family of Hermitian connections joining the Chern connection and the Bismut connection. We will call ${\nabla ^s} = \left( {1 - \frac{s}{2}} \right){\nabla ^c} + \frac{s}{2}{\nabla ^b}$ the s-Gauduchon connection of M, where ∇c and ∇b are respectively the Chern and Bismut connections. It is natural to ask when a compact Hermitian manifold could admit a flat s-Gauduchon connection. This is related to a question asked by Yau. The cases with s = 0 (a flat Chern connection) or s = 2 (a flat Bismut connection) are classified respectively by Boothby in the 1950s or by the authors in a recent joint work with Q. Wang. In this article, we observe that if either $s \geqslant 4 + 2\sqrt 3 \approx 7.46$ or $s \leqslant 4 - 2\sqrt 3 \approx 0.54$ and s ≠ 0, then g is Kähler. We also show that, when n = 2, g is always Kähler unless s = 2. Therefore non-Kähler compact Gauduchon flat surfaces are exactly isosceles Hopf surfaces.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a compact complex $n$-manifold. A Gauduchon metric is a Hermitian metric whose fundamental 2-form $\omega$ satisfies the equation $dd^c(\omega^{n-1})=0$. Paul Gauduchon has proven that any Hermitian metric is conformally equivalent to a Gauduchon metric, which is unique (up to a constant multiplier) in its conformal class. Then $d^c(\omega^{n-1})$ is a closed $(2n-1)$-form; the set of cohomology classes of all such forms, called the Lee-Gauduchon cone, is a convex cone, superficially similar to the Kahler cone. We prove that the Lee-Gauduchon cone is a bimeromorphic invariant, and compute it for several classes of non-Kahler manifolds.

Abstract:We define higher genus Gromov-Witten invariants and establish a mathematical theory of sigma model coupled with gravity over any semi-positive symplectic manifolds. As applications, we verify the stablizing conjecture of symplectic 4-manifolds for simply connected elliptic surfaces and construct smooth 6-manifolds admitting infinitely many deformation classes of symplectic structures.

Abstract:We construct new examples of $t$-Gauduchon Ricci-flat metrics, for all $t<1$, on compact non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds defined by certain principal torus bundles over rational homogeneous varieties with Picard number $\varrho(X) > 1$. As an application, we provide a detailed description of new examples of Strominger-Bismut Ricci-flat Hermitian metrics, Lichnerowicz Ricci-flat Hermitian metrics, and balanced Hermitian metrics on principal $T^{2}$-bundles over the Fano threefold ${\mathbb{P}}(T_{{\mathbb{P}^{2}}})$.

Abstract:In 1984, Gauduchon [Math. Ann. 267 (1984), pp. 495-518] con-sidered the functional of L2-norm of his torsion 1-form on a compact Hermitian manifold. He obtained the Euler-Lagrange equation for this functional, and showed that in dimension 2 the critical metrics must be balanced (namely with vanishing torsion 1-form). In this note we extend his result to higher dimen-sions, and show that critical metrics are balanced in all dimensions. We also consider the L2-norm of the full Chern torsion, and show by examples that there are critical points of this functional that are not Kahler.

Abstract:In a paper by Angella, Otal, Ugarte, and Villacampa, the authors conjectured that on a compact Hermitian manifold, if a Gauduchon connection other than Chern or Strominger is Kähler-like, then the Hermitian metric must be Kähler. They also conjectured that if two Gauduchon connections are both Kähler-like, then the metric must be Kähler. In this paper, we discuss some partial answers to the first conjecture, and give a proof to the second conjecture. In the process, we discovered an interesting `duality' phenomenon amongst Gauduchon connections, which seems to be intimately tied to the question, though we do not know if there is any underlying reason for that from physics.
Balanced metrics and Gauduchon cone of locally conformally Kahler manifolds

Abstract:A complex Hermitian $n$-manifold $(M,I, \omega)$ is called locally conformally Kahler (LCK) if $d\omega=\theta\wedge\omega$, where $\theta$ is a closed 1-form, balanced if $\omega^{n-1}$ is closed, and SKT if $dId\omega=0$. We conjecture that any compact complex manifold admitting two of these three types of Hermitian forms (balanced, SKT, LCK) also admits a Kahler metric, and prove partial results towards this conjecture. We conjecture that the (1,1)-form $-d(I\theta)$ is Bott--Chern homologous to a positive (1,1)-current. This conjecture implies that $(M,I)$ does not admit a balanced Hermitian metric. We verify this conjecture for all known classes of LCK manifolds.
