Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:This is a continuation of our previous paper [14]. In [14], we introduced the first Aeppli-Chern class on compact complex manifolds, and proved that the $(1,1)$ curvature form of the Levi-Civita connection represents the first Aeppli-Chern class which is a natural link between Riemannian geometry and complex geometry. In this paper, we study the geometry of compact complex manifolds with Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics and classify minimal complex surfaces with Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics. More precisely, we show that minimal complex surfaces admitting Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics are Kähler Calabi-Yau surfaces and Hopf surfaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the first Aeppli-Chern class for complex manifolds and show that the ( 1 , 1 ) (1,1) -component of the curvature 2 2 -form of the Levi-Civita connection on the anti-canonical line bundle represents this class. We systematically investigate the relationship between a variety of Ricci curvatures on Hermitian manifolds and the background Riemannian manifolds. Moreover, we study non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds by using the first Aeppli-Chern class and the Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics. In particular, we construct explicit Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics on Hopf manifolds S 2 n − 1 × S 1 \mathbb {S}^{2n-1}\times \mathbb {S}^1 . We also construct a smooth family of Gauduchon metrics on a compact Hermitian manifold such that the metrics are in the same first Aeppli-Chern class, and their first Chern-Ricci curvatures are the same and non-negative, but their Riemannian scalar curvatures are constant and vary smoothly between negative infinity and a positive number. In particular, it shows that Hermitian manifolds with non-negative first Chern class can admit Hermitian metrics with strictly negative Riemannian scalar curvature.

Abstract:On Hermitian manifolds, the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. By refining the Bochner formulas for any Hermitian complex vector bundle (and Riemannian real vector bundle) with an arbitrary metric connection over a compact Hermitian manifold, we can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and complex vector bundles by the second Ricci curvature tensors. We will also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:The existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on a compact Kähler manifold hasbeen the subject of intensive study over the last few decades, following Yau'ssolution to Calabi's conjecture. The Ricci flow, introduced by Richard Hamiltonhas become one of the most powerful tools in geometric analysis. We study the Kähler-Ricci flow on minimal surfaces of Kodaira dimension oneand show that the flow collapses and converges to a unique canonical metric onits canonical model. Such a canonical is a generalized Kähler-Einsteinmetric. Combining the results of Cao, Tsuji, Tian and Zhang, we give a metricclassification for Käher surfaces with a numerical effective canonical linebundle by the Kähler-Ricci flow. In general, we propose a program of findingcanonical metrics on canonical models of projective varieties of positiveKodaira dimension.

Abstract:We exhibit families of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on K3 surfaces which collapse to an interval, with Tian-Yau and Taub-NUT metrics occurring as bubbles. There is a corresponding continuous surjective map from the K3 surface to the interval, with regular fibers diffeomorphic to either 3-tori or Heisenberg nilmanifolds.

Abstract:These are the notes for lectures given at the Sanya winter school in complex analysis and geometry in January 2016. In Sec. 1, we review the meaning of Ricci curvature of Kähler metrics and introduce the problem of finding Kähler–Einstein metrics. In Sec. 2, we describe the formal picture that leads to the notion of K-stability of Fano manifolds, which is an algebro-geometric criterion for the existence of a Kähler–Einstein metric, by the recent result of Chen–Donaldson–Sun. In Sec. 3, we discuss algebraic structure on Gromov–Hausdorff limits, which is a key ingredient in the proof of the Kähler–Einstein result. In Sec. 4, we give a brief survey of the more recent work on tangent cones of singular Kähler–Einstein metrics arising from Gromov–Hausdorff limits, and the connections with algebraic geometry.
Complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature

Abstract:We consider complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. The main results are: 1. When the manifold has nonnegative bisectional curvature, we show that $\lim\limits_{r\to\infty}\frac{r^{2}}{vol(B(p, r))}\int_{B(p, r)}S$ exists. In other words, it depends only on the manifold. This solves a question of Ni. Also, we establish estimates among volume growth ratio, integral of scalar curvature, and the degree of polynomial growth holomorphic functions. The new point is that the estimates are sharp for any prescribed volume growth rate. 2. We discover a strong rigidity for complete Ricci flat Kähler metrics. Let $M^n (n\geq 2)$ be a complete Kähler manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Assume either the curvature has quadratic decay, or the Kähler metric is $dd^c$-exact with quadratic decay of scalar curvature. If one tangent cone at infinity is Ricci flat, then $M$ is Ricci flat. In particular, the tangent cone is unique. In other words, we can test Ricci flatness of the manifold by checking one single tangent cone. This seems unexpected, since apriori, there is no equation on $M$ and the Bishop-Gromov volume comparison is not sharp on Ricci flat (nonflat) manifolds. Such result is in sharp contrast to the Riemannian setting: Colding and Naber showed that tangent cones are quite flexible when $Ric\geq 0$ and $|Rm|r^2<C$. This reveals subtle differences between Riemannian case and Kähler case. The result contains lots of examples, such as all noncompact Ricci flat Kähler surfaces of Euclidean volume growth (hyper-Kähler ALE 4-manifolds classified by Kronheimer), higher dimensional examples of Tian-Yau type, as well as an example with irregular cross section. It also covers Ricci flat Kähler metrics of Euclidean volume growth on Stein manifolds with $b_2 = 0$(e.g., $\mathbb{C}^n$).

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.

Abstract:In this article we study the metric property and the function theory of asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE) Kähler manifolds. In particular, we prove the Ricci flatness under the assumption that the Ricci curvature of such manifolds is either nonnegative or nonpositive. The result provides a generalization of previous gap type theorems established by Greene and Wu, Mok, Siu and Yau, etc. It can also be thought of as a general positive mass type result. The method also proves the Liouville properties of plurisubharmonic functions on such manifolds. We also give a characterization of Ricci flatness of an ALE Kähler manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature in terms of the structure of its cone at infinity.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that any compact Kähler manifold homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature admits a Kähler–Einstein metric of general type. Moreover, we prove that, on a compact symplectic manifold X homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature, for any almost complex structure J compatible with the symplectic form, there is no non-constant J-holomorphic entire curve $f:{\mathbb C \,}\rightarrow X$.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that a compact Kähler manifold M n with real analytic metric and with nonpositive sectional curvature must have its Kodaira dimension, its Ricci rank and the codimension of its Euclidean de Rham factor all equal to each other. In particular, M n is of general type if and only if it is without flat de Rham factor. By using a result of Lu and Yau, we also prove that for a compact Kähler surface M 2 with nonpositive sectional curvature, if M 2 is of general type, then it is Kobayashi hyperbolic.

Abstract:This is a continuation of our previous paper on settling the non-compact version of Calabi's conjecture on open manifold. In both these papers, open manifolds will mean quasiprojective manifolds M which can be written as MBAR\D. We are constructing complete Kahler metrics on M with either zero Ricci curvature or non-negative Ricci curvature. As was explained in the program outlined by the second author in the Congress in Helsinki, D is related to the zeroes of a section of K(MBAR)-1. In our previous paper [TY1], we dealt with the case when the multiplicity is equal to one. In this paper, we finish the case when the multiplicity is greater than one. We also allow orbifold type singularities in all these discussions. Our constructions include practically all known examples of complete Kahler manifolds with zero Ricci curvature of finite topological type. (It should be noted that M. Anderson, P. Kronheimer and Le Brun have recently constructed such examples with infinite topological type.) Besides constructing many new examples of such manifolds which may serve as gravitational instantons, these matrices provide a bridge between metric geometry and algebraic geometry of M because we do have some understanding of complete manifolds with non-negative curvature.

Abstract:. In this note, we give a brief exposition on the recent progress on the geometry and topology of compact complex manifolds with RC-positive tangent bundles, with particular focus on several open problems proposed by S.-T. Yau around 40 years ago. The uniformization theorem demonstrates satis-factorily that: every simply connected Riemann sur-face is isomorphic to one of three Riemann surfaces: the open unit disk D , the complex plane C , or the Riemann sphere S 2 . However, the geometry and topology of higher dimensional complex manifolds are far more complicated, and the classifica-tions of such manifolds are still challenging tasks in modern geometry. As analogous to the geometric properties of three model Riemann surfaces, many terminologies are developed to investigate higher dimensional complex manifolds. For instances, a vari-ety of curvature notions are used in differential geometry, e.g., holomorphic bisectional curvature, holomorphic sectional curvature, Ricci curvature and etc. With the help of the intersection theory, algebraic geometers created many algebraic concepts to de-scribe the geometry of algebraic manifolds, such as ampleness, nefness and so on. On the other hand, it is natural to investigate complex manifolds by ana-lyzing model Riemann surfaces contained in them. The category of algebraic manifolds containing rational curves ( CP 1 ∼ = S 2 ) plays a significant role in alge-* braic geometry, and complex manifolds without entire curves C —so called hyperbolic manifolds—are fundamental in analytical geometry.
