Abstract:The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract:An electrochemical protocol for benzylic C(sp3)-H aminopyridylation via direct C-H/N-H cross-coupling of alkylarenes with N-aminopyridinium triflate has been developed. This method features excellent site-selectivity, broad substrate scope, redox reagent-free and facile scalability. The generated benzylaminopyridiniums can be readily converted to benzylamines via electroreductive N-N bond cleavage.

Herein, we investigate highly efficient intramolecular amination at room temperature with excellent functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies suggest that the rapid ligand exchange may lead to the NiI/NiIII catalytic cycle. This method not only provides a new perspective for intramolecular amination but also offers a novel approach for constructing the benzothiazine scaffold.

Abstract:Transition-metal-catalyzed oxidative C- H/N-H coupling reaction is an important method to construct C-N bonds. However, stoichiometric oxidants were usually necessary. Here, we report a palladium-catalyzed electro-oxidative intra-molecular C-H/N-H annulation reaction without an external oxidant or additive. A variety of pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazoles were constructed by a simple, green, and mild path. Experimental results suggested that Pd(0) could be oxidized on the anode to be recycled.

Abstract:A new electrochemical proton-coupled electron transfer method for the intermolecular C SP 2 –H amination of heteroarenes without oxidants, metal catalysts and external electrolytes has been developed. Various new N-containing heteroarenes were prepared in medium to high yields, and the indole-containing product could be converted into practical 2-oxindole by simple basic hydrolysis. Mechanistic investigation indicated that ester sulfonyl-substituted N -radicals could be formed by the combination of 2,6-lutidine and electrochemical oxidation, which is the key to achieve the desired chemoselectivity.

Abstract:An efficient electrochemical dual C(sp(3))-H amination was developed under metal-free and chemical oxidant-free conditions. A series of imidazo[1,5-a]quinazolin-5(4H)-ones and 5-oxo-4,5-dihydroimidazo[1,5-a]quinazoline-3-carbonitriles can be obtained in high yields and the product distribution can be modulated by virtue of this method. The reaction mechanism was investigated and the corresponding intermediates were studied. The reaction features a broad substrate scope, regulation of the product distribution, mild conditions and scalable preparation.

Abstract:In this paper, rhodium‐catalyzed sequential twofold ortho ‐C‐H functionalization of N ‐phenylbenzimidamide with internal alkyne is studied. The double C‐H activations proved viable in a one‐pot fashion with the assistance of C=N and C‐N, providing a serial of benzimidazoisoquinolines with high levels of positional selectivity control. The operationally simple transformation showed high functional group compatibility and featured with cleavage of the C‐H bonds located on different moiety of the N ‐phenylbenzimidamide substrates. Detailed mechanistic studies provided strong support for C−H bond cleavage on N ‐phenyl ring is preferential than C‐H bond on C‐phenyl ring. As a multifunctional catalytic platform, the rhodium catalyst conducted two independent and compatible catalytic cycles in one pot.

Abstract:This study demonstrates an electrochemically driven, Ir(III)-catalyzed method for pyridine-, azo-, and purine-directed olefinic and aromatic C(sp2)−H activation and regioselective annulation with alkynes for the synthesis of biologically useful quaternary ammonium salts. This approach notably eliminates the need for stoichiometric amounts of external oxidants, offering a broader substrate scope along with improved product regioselectivity under mild electrolysis conditions as compared to previously employed strong oxidant conditions. Detailed mechanistic insights, including the isolation, characterization, and cyclovoltammetric analysis of catalytically relevant iridium(III) and iridium(I) intermediates, provided strong supporting evidence for an Ir(III/I) catalytic cycle operation.

Abstract:A facile and elegant method for synthesis of novel N –aryl phenothiazine derivatives from 2-phenylindolizines and phenothiazines through direct electrochemical oxidation has been developed. This approach was performed smoothly at room temperature without external oxidant and catalyst. Cyclic voltammetry and in situ FTIR techniques were applied to analyze the cross-coupling process of phenothiazines and 2-phenylindolizines, which helped to select the appropriate reaction potential. Under the optimized conditions, a broad range of substrates were well tolerated, affording the desired products in moderate to excellent isolated yields (up to 91%) with high regioselectivity. Meanwhile, a plausible mechanism involving a radical pathway has been proposed.

Abstract:Through the development of ligands and reaction conditions, the Rh(III)-catalyzed selective annulation of benzamides with internal alkynes has been achieved to the formation of O-cyclized isochromen-imines. Various substituents are well-tolerated under mild reaction conditions. Density functional theory calculations indicate that silver carbonate could act as a Lewis acid to assist the ligand to improve the chemical selectivity of the reaction in a catalytic system.

Abstract:A highly efficient copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative intramolecular C-H amination has been developed using substituted 2-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)-N-alkylbenzenamines as the starting materials, and the corresponding imidazobenzimidazole derivatives were obtained in excellent yields. This is an economical and practical method for the construction of N-heterocycles.

Abstract:The Cu-catalyzed regioselective synthesis of phenazine N-oxides was realized from benzoxadiazoles and diaryliodonium salts. The process was initiated by the electrophilic arylation of benzoxadiazoles with diaryliodonium salts and followed by benzocyclization reactions. The further reduction of N-oxides in situ to phenazine scaffolds and deviation to organic fluorescent materials were readily accomplished.
