Abstract:An efficient process based on the gold-catalyzed redox reaction has been developed to oxidize 1,2-diarylacetylene or ynamide to 1,2-diaryldiketone or α-keto imide respectively. Abstract:Herein, we report the first intramolecular C-N bond formation of phenylpropanamide derivatives via organocatalytic oxidative reactions, affording 3,3-disubstituted oxindole derivatives with up to 99% yield. The high efficiency of this reaction is exemplified by the transition metal-free mild conditions and the ability to perform the reaction on a gram scale. Meanwhile, the DFT calculation of the catalytic oxidative transformation pathway has also been studied.

Abstract:A novel iodine-mediated intermolecular iodosulfonylation reaction of alkenes for dual C-S and C-I bond formation is described. A series of alkenes could be selectively converted into the corresponding beta-iodo sulfones, which are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Molecular iodine was the iodine source in this reaction.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract:A Hofmann-Loffler-Freytag type cyclization reaction of S-aryl-S-phenylpropyl sulfoximines (and related derivatives) was developed. Using molecular iodine as the initiator under visible light a series of five-membered cyclic products was obtained in moderate to high yields. The approach represents a new strategy for the synthesis of dihydroisothiazole oxides and benzo[d] isothiazoles-1-oxides.

Abstract:An efficient I-2-mediated sulfonylation at 4-position of isoxazoles has been developed by employing sodium sulfinate and 3-substituted isoxazol-5(4H)-ones. This metal-free, one-pot strategy provides various sulfonyl isoxazoles under mild reaction conditions. Abstract:The cyclization reaction and hydrosulfonylation reaction of ynones have been simultaneously realized through a single operation. Under the mediation of cesium carbonate, different S‐(α‐hydroxyaryl) aryl thiosulfonates reacted with various ynones to produce functionalized vinyl sulfones in 37%‐83% yields with E‐selectivity. At the same time, a variety of benzoxathiins were formed in 42%‐97% yields.

Abstract:Benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxide derivatives are widely used because of their diverse biological activities and medicinal prospects. In this study, iodine-oxone mediated oxidative N–S bond formation reaction was described. This new and transition-metal-free approach allows for the convenient synthesis of a variety of 1,2,4-benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxides from readily available urea derivatives under very mild conditions without using expensive reagents and catalysts. Abstract:The iodohydroxylation of 1,2-allenyl sulfoxides with iodine in the presence of benzyl thiol afforded 3-hydroxy-2-iodo-2(E)-alkenyl sulfides in good yields and high regio- and stereoselectivities. In this reaction it was observed that the sulfoxide functionality was reduced to sulfide and the water in the reaction mixture plays an important role for the stereoselectivity observed. A mechanism involving the attack of benzyl thiol at the positively charged sulfur atom in the five-membered intermediate 2 has been proposed.

Abstract:A sodium iodide-mediated sulfuration reaction of imidazole heterocycles, prompted by visible light and using thiosulfate as an odorless electrophilic arylsulphenyl source, has been developed. Mechanistic investigations suggest that sodium iodide and thiol sulfonic ester produce a sulfur cationic intermediate upon light irradiation, which then participates in electrophilic substitution with an aromatic heterocycle. Exhibiting a wide substrate scope and a broad tolerance to various functional groups, the reaction affords moderate to excellent yields. This provides a potent method for the synthesis of a diverse array of sulfur-containing compounds.

Abstract:Iodine is a well-known oxidant that is widely used in organic syntheses. Thiol oxidation by stoichiometric iodine is one of the most commonly employed strategies for the synthesis of valuable disulfides. While recent advancements in catalytic aerobic oxidation conditions have eliminated the need for stoichiometric oxidants, concerns persist regarding the use of toxic or expensive catalysts. In this study, we discovered that iodine can be used as a cheap, low-toxicity catalyst in the aerobic oxidation of thiols. In the catalytic cycle, iodine can be regenerated via HI oxidation by O2 at 70 °C in EtOAc. This protocol harnesses sustainable oxygen as the terminal oxidant, enabling the conversion of primary and secondary thiols with remarkable efficiency. Notably, all 26 tested thiols, encompassing various sensitive functional groups, were successfully converted into their corresponding disulfides with yields ranging from >66% to 98% at a catalyst loading of 5 mol%.

Abstract:An iodophor-catalyzed direct disulfenylation of amino naphthalenes with aryl sulfonyl hydrazines in water was developed. A series of aryl sulfides were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. The advantages of this green protocol were the simple reaction conditions (metal-free, water as the solvent, under air), the odorless and easily available sulfur reagent, the broad substrate scope, and gram-scale synthesis. Moreover, the potential application of aryl sulfides was exemplified by further transformations.

Abstract:The iodine(III) compound promoted CH amination and tandem CH amination/acetoxylation of guanidines are achieved for the first time to provide efficiently 2-aminobenzimidazoles and acetoxyl-substituted 2-aminobenzimidazoles, respectively. The amount and type of iodine(III) compounds control the selective syntheses of two types of 2-aminobenzimidazoles. This reaction shows good regioselectivity when unsymmetrical substrates are used.
