Abstract:Objective: To analyze the current research status of uveitis in China. Methods: It was a bibliometric analysis study. Using search formulas covering uveitis and its multiple subtypes, uveitis-related literature in English with publication dates from 2013 to 2022 was retrieved in Web of Science core databases through certain search strategies. This study used the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) algorithm to build topic models and analyzed the trends of research topics in recent years. Bibliometric analysis was used to analyze and visualize the bibliometric indicators (e.g., number of publications, citations, and H-index) of the included literature using tools such as VOSviewer software. Results: Over the past decade, China has published 1 657 papers on uveitis, ranking second globally. However, there is still room for improvement in terms of the H-index (58) and citation (12.28 per publication). Countries such as the USA (43.04%) and the United Kingdom (62.54%) were engaged in more international collaboration. We identified ten optimal LDA topics for uveitis literature in China such as immunotherapy, Behçet's disease, and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome. Research on uveitis in China was mostly published in Ocular Immunology and Inflammation (92). Conclusions: China has made remarkable progress in uveitis research. Nonetheless, there is still untapped potential to enhance our global academic influence. It is encouraged to promote international collaborations, harness our expertise in areas like Behçet's disease and VKH syndrome, and publish our scientific achievements in high-impact journals.
Mapping Research Trends of Chronic Ocular Graft-Versus-host Disease from 2009 to 2020: a Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the global scientific output of research on ocular chronic Graft versus host disease (cGVHD) and explore the current status and trends in this field over the past decade by bibliometric analysis. Methods The bibliometric search was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewer v.1.6.16 was used to map the knowledge domain. The annual number of publications and citations, distribution of countries and organizations, productivity of authors and journals, international collaborations, cited references, and keywords in the field of ocular cGVHD were visualized. Results In total, 398 peer-reviewed publications from 2009 to 2020 on ocular cGVHD were retrieved. The United States among all countries had the highest number of publications and citations, and Keio University was the most effective institution. Dana, R ranks the highest regarding the number of publications and citations on ocular cGVHD. Cornea and Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation were the most-cited journals in ocular cGVHD studies from ophthalmology and hematology, respectively. The top-cited references were primarily centered on dry eye. The keywords constituted three clusters: (1) consensus criteria and epidemiology of ocular cGVHD, (2) preclinical medical research of ocular cGVHD, and (3) treatment. Conclusion Based on the data retrieved from WoSCC, a comparative analysis of the quantity and quality of papers on ocular cGVHD was conducted through bibliometric methods. This may contribute to better understanding of the status of ocular cGVHD study. The three major research topics shed new light on the ocular cGVHD study as well as meaningful materials for scholars to identify potential collaborators and promising partner institutions.

Abstract:BackgroundOver the past 40 years, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has become a safe and effective tool for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. A growing number of articles have been published annually. We aimed to explore global scientific outputs and hotspots of EUS published by different countries, organizations, and authors. MethodsThe global literature regarding EUS during the 1900-2020 period was identified from the Web of Science (WOS) Core database. "Bibliometrix" and software VOSviewer were applied to perform bibliometric analysis. ResultsThe annual growth rate of publications from 1980 to 2020 was around 16% and the number of EUS-related articles had experienced a sudden increase in the last decade. Bhutani MS was the most productive author over the past years, with 94 publications. Hawes RH had the highest number of citations, with 6,034 citations. The United States and institutions from United States dominated the EUS research. Among the journals, GASTROINTESTINAL ENDOSCOPY published the highest number of articles, followed by ENDOSCOPY. The majority of top 10 frequently cited references were cited more than 200 times. Carcinoma, diagnosis, fine-needle-aspiration, cytology, and pancreatitis were the important keywords in co-occurrence analysis of keywords. Recent studies focused more on tissue acquisition, size of the needle, lumen-apposing metal stent, and fine-needle- biopsy. ConclusionResearch on EUS has significantly increased in the last decade globally and it will continue to increase. Active collaboration among different authors and countries was observed in the EUS field. Tissue acquisition, size of the needle, apposing metal stent, and fine-needle-biopsy might be the latest research frontiers and should receive more attention.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the hotspots and research trends of ophthalmology research. Method Ophthalmology research literature published between 2017 and 2021 was obtained in the Web of Science Core Collection database. The bibliometric analysis and network visualization were performed with the VOSviewer and CiteSpace. Publication-related information, including publication volume, citation counts, countries, journals, keywords, subject categories, and publication time, was analyzed. Results A total of 10,469 included ophthalmology publications had been cited a total of 7,995 times during the past 5 years. The top countries and journals for the number of publications were the United States and the Ophthalmology. The top 25 global high-impact documents had been identified using the citation ranking. Keyword co-occurrence analysis showed that the hotspots in ophthalmology research were epidemiological characteristics and treatment modalities of ocular diseases, artificial intelligence and fundus imaging technology, COVID-19-related telemedicine, and screening and prevention of ocular diseases. Keyword burst analysis revealed that “neural network,” “pharmacokinetics,” “geographic atrophy,” “implementation,” “variability,” “adverse events,” “automated detection,” and “retinal images” were the research trends of research in the field of ophthalmology through 2021. The analysis of the subject categories demonstrated the close cooperation relationships that existed between different subject categories, and collaborations with non-ophthalmology-related subject categories were increasing over time in the field of ophthalmology research. Conclusions The hotspots in ophthalmology research were epidemiology, prevention, screening, and treatment of ocular diseases, as well as artificial intelligence and fundus imaging technology and telemedicine. Research trends in ophthalmology research were artificial intelligence, drug development, and fundus diseases. Knowledge from non-ophthalmology fields is likely to be more involved in ophthalmology research.

The Trend of Drug Therapy on Uveitic Macular Edema: A Bibliometric Analysis of the 100 Most Cited Articles

Abstract:Background Macular edema is the most common cause of impaired vision due to uveitis. Although various medications are available, not all uveitis patients with macular edema are satisfied with the treatment results. Therefore, solving this gap becomes the utmost concern worldwide. This study attempted to use bibliometric analysis to compare the valuable information in the top 100 highly cited studies in the field of drug therapy for uveitic macular edema (UME) and then determine the research hot spots and trends in this field. Methods In this study, the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of Web of Science (WOS) was used to collect the top 100 most cited studies on UME and analyze the literature from different countries/regions, institutions, and journals. The visualization knowledge maps is generated by VOSviewer and Citespace software. Results The top 100 highly cited studies are from 34 countries/regions. The United States has the largest number of publications, followed by the England, Spain and Germany. The top three institutions publishing highly cited literature are all from the England: University of London, University College London, and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Ophthalmology is the most widely published journal with 14 papers. The total number of citations is 1,371, meaning that Ophthalmology is the most authoritative journal in the field of UME drug therapy. The top two articles with the most cited times are from the United States, accounting for 36.5% of the total cited times of the top 10 articles. Keywords were divided into three clusters: the corticosteroid administration pathway, biological agents, and clinical trials. Uveitis, cystoid macular edema, efficacy, dexamethasone, and triamcinolone acetonide appeared more frequently in keywords. Researches on local and long-acting drug has gradually becoming the hot spots and trends. Conclusion This study concludes that bibliometric analysis can intuitively and quickly obtain the frontiers and hot spots of research in the field of UME drug therapy. Corticosteroid administration, biological agents, and clinical trials are considered the potential focus of future research.

Abstract:Using bibliometric analysis, this study attempted to provide an overview of the current state of research and key findings regarding the immunotherapy for vasculitis in general. We gathered the literature from the Web of Science (WOS) database covering the last 20 years (2004–2024) pertaining to the immunotherapy for vasculitis, and we used Citespace to evaluate the mapping of knowledge. The findings demonstrated that there were 572 articles concerning the immunotherapy for vasculitis, with a faster growth after 2018. The USA, Assistance Publique Hopitaux Paris, and Cornelia M are the nation, organization, and writer with the highest number of publications. Daxini A (2018) is the most frequently mentioned reference as well (26). Prominent universities and developed nations form the finest alliances for research on immunotherapy for vasculitis researches. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, Wegener's granulomatosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus are Three research hotspots in this field.

Abstract:Introduction: Recently the role of gut microbial dysbiosis in many ocular disorders, including but not limited to uveitis, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), dry eye, keratitis and orbitopathy is a hot research topic in the field. Targeting gut microbiota to treat these diseases has become an unstoppable trend. Bibliometric study and visualization analysis have become essential methods for literature analysis in the medical research field. We aim to depict this area's research hotspots and future directions by bibliometric software and methods. Methods: We search all the related publications from the Web of Science Core Collection. Then, CiteSpace was applied to analyze and visualize the country distributions, dual-map overlay of journals, keyword bursts, and co-cited references. VOSviewer was employed to identify authors, co-cited authors, journals and co-cited journals and display the keyword co-occurrence networks. Results: A total of 284 relevant publications were identified from 2009 to 2023. The number of studies has been small in the first five years and has grown steadily since 2016. These studies were completed by 1,376 authors from 41 countries worldwide, with the United States in the lead. Lin P has published the most papers while Horai R is the most co-cited author. The top journal and co-cited journal are both Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science. In the keyword co-occurrence network, except gut microbiota, inflammation becomes the keyword with the highest frequency. Co-citation analyses reveal that gut dysbiosis is involved in common immune- and inflammation-mediated eye diseases, including uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, dry eye, and Graves' orbitopathy, and the study of microbiomes is no longer limited to the bacterial populations. Therapeutic strategies that target the gut microbiota, such as probiotics, healthy diet patterns, and fecal microbial transplantation, are effective and critical to future research. Conclusions: In conclusion, the bibliometric analysis displays the research hotspots and developmental directions of the involvement of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis and treatment of some ocular diseases. It provides an overview of this field's dynamic evolution and structural relationships.

Abstract:Background and Purpose Urticaria is a prevalent recurrent skin allergic condition. Severe itching significantly impacts patients' quality of life. This paper aims to investigate the development status of urticaria through bibliometric analysis to predict future research hotspots and trends. Methods On October 29, 2023, a literature search was conducted in the Web of Science (WOS) database to collect urticaria‐related publications. The top 100 most cited articles were charted, and VOSviewer software was utilized for the literature data analysis. A visual analysis was performed on the number of articles, journals, main researchers, keywords, and so on. Results The research involved 415 authors from 28 countries, published across 25 journals, ranging from 1963 to 2023. Marcus Maurer was the leading author, with the United States being the foremost country in urticaria research. CEH Grattan received the most citations, and The Medical University of South Carolina had the highest number of publications. Key research focuses include epidemiology, pathogenesis, drug therapy, and quality of life assessments. "Anti‐high affinity IgE receptor α chain (FcεRIα)," "chronic idiopathic urticaria," "autoantibodies," "histamine‐release" emerged as the keywords with the highest prominence. Conclusion The field of urticaria research has attracted substantial attention over the past few decades, witnessing rapid development. This study highlighted the top 100 articles by citation frequency within the urticaria field. Bibliometric analysis revealed a shift in treatment methods from traditional antihistamines to biological agents, with significant emphasis on improving the quality of life in chronic urticaria management. These areas represent the current research focal points and indicate future trends in urticaria research.

Abstract:Background: Ophthalmopathy occurring in childhood can easily lead to irreversible visual impairment, and therefore a great deal of clinical and fundamental researches have been conducted in pediatric ophthalmopathy. However, a few studies have been performed to analyze such large amounts of research using bibliometric methods. This study intended to apply bibliometric methods to analyze the research hotspots and trends in pediatric ophthalmopathy, providing a basis for clinical practice and scientific research to improve children's eye health. Methods: Publications related to pediatric ophthalmopathy were searched and identified in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Bibliometric and visualized analysis was performed using the WoSCC analysis system and CiteSpace.6.2.6 software, and high-impact publications were analyzed. Results: This study included a total of 7,177 publications from 162 countries and regions. Of these, 2,269 from the United States and 1,298 from China. The centrality and H-index were highest in the United States at 0.27 and 66, respectively. The University of London and Harvard University had the highest H-index at 37. Freedman,Sharon F published 55 publications, with the highest H-index at 19. The emerging burst keyword in 2020–2023 was "eye tracking," and the burst keywords in 2021–2023 were "choroidal thickness," "pediatric ophthalmology," "impact" and "childhood glaucoma." Retinopathy of prematurity, myopia, retinoblastoma and uveitis in juvenile idiopathic arthritis were the main topics in the high-impact publications, with clinical studies in the majority, especially in retinopathy of prematurity. Conclusion: Eye health in children is a research hotspot, with the United States publishing the largest number of papers and having the greatest influence in research on pediatric ophthalmopathy, and China coming in second. The University of London and Stanford University had the greatest influence. Freedman, Sharon F was the most influential author. Furthermore, "choroidal thickness," "pediatric ophthalmology," "impact," "childhood glaucoma" and "eye tracking"are the latest hotspots in the field of pediatric ophthalmopathy. These hotspots represent hot diseases, hot technologies and holistic concepts, which are exactly the research trends in the field of pediatric ophthalmopathy, providing guidance and grounds for clinical practice and scientific research on children's eye health.

Research trends of worldwide ophthalmologic randomized controlled trials in the 21st century: A bibliometric study

Abstract:Background: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are often considered the gold standard and the cornerstone for clinical practice. However, bibliometric studies on worldwide RCTs of ophthalmology published in the 21st century have not been reported in detail yet. This study aims to perform a bibliometric study and visualization analysis of worldwide ophthalmologic RCTs in the 21st century. Methods: Global ophthalmologic RCTs from 2000 to 2022 were searched in the Web of Science Core Collection. The number of publications, country/region, institution, author, journal, and research hotspots of RCTs were analyzed using HistCite, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Excel software. Results: 2366 institutions and 90 journals from 83 countries/regions participated in the publication of 1769 global ophthalmologic RCTs, with the United States leading in the number of volumes and research field, and the Moorfields Eye Hospital contributing to the most publications. Ophthalmology received the greatest number of publications and co-citations. Jeffrey S. Heier owned the most publications and Jost B. Jonas owned the most co-citations. The knowledge foundations of global ophthalmologic RCTs were mainly retinopathy, glaucoma, dry eye disease (DED), and cataracts, and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy (ranibizumab), topical ocular hypotensive medication, laser trabeculoplasty. Anti-VEGF therapy for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), DME (diabetic macular edema), and DED, the use of new diagnostic tools, and myopia were the hottest research highlights. Anti-VEGF therapy, prompt laser, triamcinolone, and verteporfin photodynamic therapy for AMD, DME, and CNV (choroidal neovascularization), DED, myopia, and open-angle glaucoma were the research hotspots with the longest duration. The future research hotspots might be DED and the prevention and control of myopia. Conclusions: Overall, the number of global ophthalmologic RCTs in the 21st century was keeping growing, there was an imbalance between the regions and institutions, and more efforts are required to raise the quantity, quality, and global impact of high-quality clinical evidence in developing countries/regions.
Mapping the vast landscape of multisystem complications of COVID-19: Bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: With the rapid global spread of COVID-19, it has become evident that the virus can lead to multisystem complications, leading to a significant increase in related publications. Bibliometrics serves as a valuable tool for identifying highly cited literature and research hotspots within specific areas. Objective: The aim of this study is to identify current research hotspots and future trends in COVID-19 complications. Methods: The dataset was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection, covering COVID-19 complications from December 8, 2019, to October 31, 2022. Various aspects, including publication general information, authors, journals, co-cited authors, co-cited references, research hotspots, and future trends, were subjected to analysis. Visual analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, The Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology, and Charticulator. Results: There were 4597 articles in the study. The top three countries with the most published articles are the USA (n = 1350, 29.4 %), China (n = 765, 16.6 %), and Italy (n = 623, 13.6 %). USA and China have the closest collaborative relationship. The institute with the largest number of publications is Huazhong University of Science and Technology, followed by Harvard Medical School. Nevertheless, half of the top 10 institutes belong to the USA. "Rezaei, Nima" published 13 articles and ranked first, followed by "Yaghi, Shadi" with 12 articles and "Frontera, Jennifer" with 12 articles. The journal with the largest number of publications is "Journal of Clinical Medicine". The top 3 co-cited authors are "Zhou, Fei", "Guan, Wei-Jie", "Huang, Chaolin". The top 3 co-cited references addressed COVID-19's clinical features in China and noticed that COVID-19 patients had a wide range of complications. We also list four research hotspots. Conclusions: This study conducted a bibliometric visual analysis of the literature on COVID-19 complications and summarized the current research hotspots. This study may provide valuable insights into the complications of COVID-19.

Bibliometric and Visualized Analysis of Global Research on Fungal Keratitis from 1959 to 2019

Abstract:Background: Fungal keratitis is one of the leading causes of ocular morbidity. The prognosis of fungal keratitis is poorer than many other forms of keratitis but the research of which relatively lags behind. We conducted a bibliometric and visualized analysis in order to characterize the overall status, general trends and current foci of keratomycosis research field. Methods: Literature database ranged from 1959 to 2019 was obtained from web of science core collection and analyzed by Citespace and VOSviewer software. Results: A total of 1906 papers of fungal keratitis were retrieved and derived a 27,917 references document set. The number of publications increased rapidly in past 30 years. Cornea was the journal published most papers of keratomycosis. The leading countries were United States of America (USA), India and Peoples Republic of China (PRC), from where came the most productive and most cited institutions and authors. Co-cited reference analysis revealed the most cited manuscripts were concerned about epidemiology or spectrum. Lens-associatedFusarium, amphotericin B, voriconazole, corneal cross-linking, predisposing factor are some of the high frequency topics in clustered co-cited reference analysis and co-occurrence keywords analysis. Burst detection analysis of keywords showed ocular drug delivery was the new research foci. Conclusion: From this study, we received an overall view to the current status, trends and hot spots of fungal keratitis research field. Visualized bibliometric analysis is an efficient way for literature learning and useful for future researchers.

Abstract:To carry out an in-depth analysis of the scientific research on autoimmunity, we performed the first bibliometric analysis focusing on publications in journals dedicated to autoimmunity (JDTA) indexed by science citation index during the period 2004–2023. Using bibliometric analysis, we quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed the country, institution, author, reference and keywords information of publications in JDTA, so as to understand the quantity, publication pattern and publication characteristics of these publications. The co-occurrence networks, clustering map and timeline map were created by CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to visualize the results. The CiteSpace was also used to analyze the strongest citation burst of keywords, which could describe the frequency, intensity and time period of high-frequency keywords, and indicate the research hotspots in the field. A total of 5 710 publications were analyzed, and their annual distribution number was basically stable from 2004 to 2023, fluctuating around 300. The United States and Italy led the way in terms of the number of publications, followed by France and China. For international cooperation, the developed countries represented by the United States cooperate more closely, but the cooperation was localized, reflecting that there was no unified model of autoimmunity among countries. UDICE-French Research Universities had the greatest number of publications. Subsequently, the number of publications decreased slowly with the ranking, and the gradient was not large. Eric Gershwin and Yehuda Shoenfeld stood out among the authors. They had an excellent academic reputation and great influence in the field of autoimmunity. The results of keyword analysis showed that JDTA publications mainly studied a variety of autoimmune diseases, especially SLE and RA. At the same time, JDTA publications also paid special attention to the research of cell function, autoantibody expression, animal experiments, disease activity, pathogenesis and treatment. This study is the first to analyze the publications in JDTA from multiple indicators by bibliometrics, thus providing new insights into the research hotspots and development trends in the field of autoimmunity.

The future landscape of immunology in COPD: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to provide a comparative and comprehensive analysis of the last 50 years of research in the immunology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to identify future research priorities and directions.METHODS: We obtained publication information from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel 365, and the R package "bibliometrix" were used for bibliometric analysis. The methodologies used were burst citation, clustering and co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, and cooperative network graph clustering algorithms.RESULTS: A total of 2239 articles and reviews were included in the analysis. The number of annual publications showed an upward trend amidst fluctuations. The countries, institutions, journals, and authors with the highest number of publications were the USA, Imperial College London (ICL), Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and Murphy TF. There are 58 references and 13 keywords with a burst citation nature in the last 3 years, related to the study of inflammatory mechanisms.CONCLUSION: We used bibliometric analysis to understand the research progress regarding immune function in COPD. Meanwhile, we found that the hotspots of COPD immunology in basic research focus on the analysis of etiology and risk factors, and the exploration of the immune system; and the hotspots of COPD in clinical research focus on epidemiology, and the prevention and management of different subtypes of COPD.

Research Trends and Hotspot Analysis of Conjunctival Bacteria Based on CiteSpace Software

Abstract:Objective To sort out the literature related to conjunctival bacteria and summarize research hotspots and trends of this field. Materials and Methods The relevant literature data from 1900 to 2019 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. After manual selection, each document record includes title, author, keywords, abstract, year, organization, and citation. We imported the downloaded data into CiteSpace V (version 5.5R2) to draw the knowledge map and conduct cooperative network analysis, discipline and journal analysis, cluster analysis, and burst keyword analysis. Results After manual screening, there were 285 relevant papers published in the last 28 years (from 1991 to 2019), and the number is increasing year by year. The publications of conjunctival bacteria were dedicated by 1381 authors of 451 institutions in 56 countries/regions. The United States dominates this field (82 literatures), followed by Germany (23 literatures) and Japan (23 literatures). Overall, most cited papers were published with a focus on molecular biology, genetics, nursing, and toxicology. Most papers fall into the category of ophthalmology, veterinary sciences, and pharmacology and pharmacy. The only organized cluster is the “postantibiotic effect,” and the top 5 keywords with the strongest citation bursts include “postoperative endophthalmiti(s),” “infectious keratoconjunctiviti(s),” “conjunctiviti(s),” “resistance,” and “diversity”. Conclusion The global field of conjunctival bacteria has expanded in the last 28 years. The United States contributes most. However, there are little cooperation among authors and institutions. Overall, this bibliometric study organized one cluster, “postantibiotic effect”, and identified the top 5 hotspots in conjunctival bacteria research: “postoperative endophthalmiti(s),” “infectious keratoconjunctiviti(s),” “conjunctiviti(s),” “resistance,” and “diversity”. Thus, further research focuses on these topics that may be more helpful to prevent ocular infection and improve prophylaxis strategies to bring a benefit to patients in the near future.

Abstract:Retinoic acid is an active metabolite with significant physiological functions in human development, immunity, vision, and skin health. In recent years, research on retinoic acid in the field of kidney disorders has been increasing gradually. Yet, there is a lack of systematic bibliometric analysis of retinoic acid research in the kidney domain. This study included 1,368 articles published between 1998 and 2023 on treating kidney diseases with retinoic acid. Using the bibliometric analysis software VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we analyzed data on publication trends, contributing countries and institutions, journals and cocited journals, authors and cocited authors, cocited references, research hotspots, and frontiers. On the basis of the results of the bibliometric analysis, we identified the research efforts and their developmental trends, providing the groundwork for future research on retinoic acid.
Endophthalmitis: a bibliometric study and visualization analysis from 1993 to 2023

Abstract:Aims: This study is designed to generalize and depict the research hotspots of endophthalmitis through bibliometric methods and software and analyze the evolutive tendency of the work on this severe disease over the past 30 years. Methods: This study employed a rigorous bibliometric approach. We identified all endophthalmitis-related literature by conducting a comprehensive search of the Science Citation Index Expanded database under the Web of Science Core Collection. The data was then analyzed and visualized using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, two widely recognized software tools in the field of bibliometrics. CiteSpace was used to analyze the country distributions, dual map overlay of journals, keyword bursts, and co-cited references. VOSviewer was employed to describe the authors and co-cited authors, the journals, the co-cited journals, and the keywords co-occurrence network. This robust methodology ensures the reliability and validity of the study's findings. Results: A total of 2960 publications, including 2695 articles and 265 reviews, were included in this bibliometric study. There has been no shortage of endophthalmitis-related publications since 1993, with an apparent upward trend during recent years. Possible correlations with the COVID-19 pandemic are also analyzed. These studies were finished by 11,048 authors from 75 countries worldwide, with the United States in the lead. In the keyword co-occurrence network, except for the endophthalmitis term, cataract surgery becomes the keyword with the highest frequency. Different categories of endophthalmitis, including postoperative, post-injection, post-traumatic, and endogenous endophthalmitis, and antibacterial and anti-inflammatory therapies of infectious endophthalmitis, are discussed by categories. From the perspective of the timeline, postoperative and post-injection endophthalmitis were the dominant forms before and after the year 2000, respectively. Co-citation analyses reveal that the Endophthalmitis Vitrectomy Study (EVS) conducted in 1995 provides pivotal guidance for later research. Diverse pathogenic bacteria (e.g., Coagulase-negative Staphylococci, Propionibacterium acnes, Viridians Streptococci, and Bacillus cereus) or fungi (e.g., Candida, Aspergillus, and Fusarium) contribute to varying treatment principles and clinical prognosis, which should be taken seriously. In addition, intravitreal and intracameral antibiotics are the mainstay for treating and preventing infectious endophthalmitis, respectively. Conclusion: Our bibliometric analysis provides an overview of dynamic evolution and structural relationships in the research field of endophthalmitis. The displayed hotspots and developmental directions have reference values for future investigation.
Global research trends and hotspots in rheumatoid arthritis joint replacement:Bibliometric analysis and visualization study

Abstract:Objective: This study aims to analyze and visualize global research trends and hotspots in rheumatoid arthritis joint replacement over the past two decades using CiteSpace and VOSviewer software.The findings from this bibliometric analysis will inform and guide future research directions in this field. Methods: We searched for relevant literature on rheumatoid arthritis joint replacement from January 2005 to August 2024 in the Web of Science database.Using CiteSpace, VOSviewer,and Bibliometrix software,we analysed keywords, authors,institutions, countries,and journals,and constructed a network cooperation map. Results: A total of 2888 articles written by 11,723 authors from 70 countries and 3194 institutions were analysed and published in 530 journals.The United States, with 855 publications accounting for 29.61%of the world's total,and the United Kingdom, with 332 publications representing 11.50 %,made the greatest contributions.Additionally,the United States maintains strong collaborative relationships with many countries. According to the analysis of the outbreak keyword map, the joint replacement of rheumatoid arthritis has become mature, and the complications, prognosis and functional rehabilitation of joint replacement are the main focus of research in this field. Conclusion: we conducted a comprehensive summary of the literature on rheumatoid arthritis joint replacement published between 2005 and 2024 using bibliometrics and visual analysis.This enabled us to identify the development trends and research hotspots in this field over the past two decades, offering valuable insights for researchers planning future studies in this area.
