Abstract:Background The research field of optic neuritis has developed rapidly and become more complex in recent years.It is very important for the reseachers and clinicians to known its status and the future trend.Objective This survey was to learn the distribution pattern,subject domain knowledge and worldwide research tendency of optic neuritis based on literatures in PubMed database.Methods Literatures on optic neuritis published in January 2000 to July 2012 were identified in PubMed database.The analytic dimention of an article included journal,published year,author,country and language.After core Mesh terms had been characterised by bibliographic item co-occurrence mining system (BICOMS),the co-occurrence matrix was built.Cluster analysis and multiple diamensional analysis were finished by SPSS 17.0.Then visualized network was drawn using ucinet 6.0.Results Totally 2 191 literatures were included,the number of articles increased from 105 in 2000 to 282 in 2011.The United States,England,Germany,Netherlands and Japan together accounted for 73.71％ of articles.There were 52 high-frequency subjects and hot topics were clustered into 9 categories.The visualized domain knowledge map was successfully built.The immunologic research was fully developed.The topic on etiology and diagnostic research,pathologic research,physiologic research and neuromyelitis optica (NMO) research had become core domain,while the studies of medication therapy,non-central nervous system idiopathetic demyelinating optic neuritis,epidemiology and genetics were not developed well.Conclusions Global optic neuritis publications display a continuous growth in the new millennium.The Big 5 in scientific literature on optic neuritis are the United States,England,Germany,Netherlands and Japan.The international main research focus includes 9 fields,which may provide reference or scholars both in scientific research and clinical research.
Mapping Research Trends of Chronic Ocular Graft-Versus-host Disease from 2009 to 2020: a Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the global scientific output of research on ocular chronic Graft versus host disease (cGVHD) and explore the current status and trends in this field over the past decade by bibliometric analysis. Methods The bibliometric search was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewer v.1.6.16 was used to map the knowledge domain. The annual number of publications and citations, distribution of countries and organizations, productivity of authors and journals, international collaborations, cited references, and keywords in the field of ocular cGVHD were visualized. Results In total, 398 peer-reviewed publications from 2009 to 2020 on ocular cGVHD were retrieved. The United States among all countries had the highest number of publications and citations, and Keio University was the most effective institution. Dana, R ranks the highest regarding the number of publications and citations on ocular cGVHD. Cornea and Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation were the most-cited journals in ocular cGVHD studies from ophthalmology and hematology, respectively. The top-cited references were primarily centered on dry eye. The keywords constituted three clusters: (1) consensus criteria and epidemiology of ocular cGVHD, (2) preclinical medical research of ocular cGVHD, and (3) treatment. Conclusion Based on the data retrieved from WoSCC, a comparative analysis of the quantity and quality of papers on ocular cGVHD was conducted through bibliometric methods. This may contribute to better understanding of the status of ocular cGVHD study. The three major research topics shed new light on the ocular cGVHD study as well as meaningful materials for scholars to identify potential collaborators and promising partner institutions.
Research progress of optic nerve imaging during 1991-2023: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: Optic nerve imaging is crucial for diagnosing and understanding optic neuropathies because it provides detailed visualization of the nerve's structure and pathologies through advanced modalities. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis within the field of optic nerve imaging, aiming to pinpoint the latest research trends and focal points in optic nerve imaging. Methods: The core literature on optic nerve imaging published between January 1991 and August 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The analysis and visualization of scientific productivity and emerging trends were facilitated through the utilization of Bibliometrix software, CiteSpace, Gephi, VOSviewer, R software, and Python. Results: In total, 15,247 publications on optic nerve imaging were included in the analysis. Notably, the top 3 journals contributing to this field were Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Ophthalmology, and the British Journal of Ophthalmology. This research on optic nerve imaging extended across 97 countries, with the USA leading in research endeavors. Noteworthy burst term analysis revealed that "Segmentation" and "Machine learning" are gaining attention. Additionally, the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model indicated that image processing has been a hotspot in recent years. Conclusions: This study revealed the research trends, hotspots, and emerging topics in optic nerve imaging through bibliometric analysis and network visualization. At present, the research focus is directed towards employing artificial intelligence for image post-processing. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into future research direction and clinical applications.
Bibliometric analysis of current glaucoma research based on Pubmed database

Abstract:Objective To survey the distribution pattern and subject domain knowledge of worldwide glaucoma research based on literatures in Pubmed database.Methods Literatures on glaucoma published in 2007 to 2011 were identified in Pubmed database.The analytic items of an article include published year,country,language author,and journal.After core mesh terms had been characterized by BICOMS,the co-occurrence matrix was built.Cluster analysis was finished by SPSS 20.0.Then visualized network was drawn using ucinet 6.0.Results Totally 6427 literatures were included,the number of annual articles changed slightly between 2007 and 2011.The United States,England,Germany,Australia,and France together accounted for 77.63％ of articles.There were 52 high-frequency subjects and hot topics were clustered into the following 10 categories:(1) Pathology of optic disc and nerve fibers and OCT application,(2) Methods of visual field (VF) and visual function examination,(3) Glaucoma drug medications,(4) Pathology and physiology of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) including VF and intraocular pressure (IOP),(5) Glaucoma surgery,(6) Gene research related to POAG,(7) Glaucoma disease pathology and animal models,(8) Ocular hypertension (OHT) induced complications and corneal changes,(9) Etiology of congenital glaucoma and complications,(10) Etiology and epidemiology of glaucoma.The visualized domain knowledge mapping was successfully built.The pathology of optic disc and nerve fibers,medications,and surgery were well developed.Study on IOP and visual field was in the core domain,which have an important link to etiology,diagnosis,and therapy.The researches on glaucomatous gene,disease pathology model,congenital glaucoma,etiology and epidemiology were not developed well,which are of great promotion space.Conclusions The distribution pattern and subject domain knowledge of worldwide glaucoma research in the recent five years were shown by using bibliometric analysis.Western developed countries play a leading role in the field of glaucoma research,the international influence of related reasearch in China needs to be strengthened.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the hotspots and research trends of ophthalmology research. Method Ophthalmology research literature published between 2017 and 2021 was obtained in the Web of Science Core Collection database. The bibliometric analysis and network visualization were performed with the VOSviewer and CiteSpace. Publication-related information, including publication volume, citation counts, countries, journals, keywords, subject categories, and publication time, was analyzed. Results A total of 10,469 included ophthalmology publications had been cited a total of 7,995 times during the past 5 years. The top countries and journals for the number of publications were the United States and the Ophthalmology. The top 25 global high-impact documents had been identified using the citation ranking. Keyword co-occurrence analysis showed that the hotspots in ophthalmology research were epidemiological characteristics and treatment modalities of ocular diseases, artificial intelligence and fundus imaging technology, COVID-19-related telemedicine, and screening and prevention of ocular diseases. Keyword burst analysis revealed that “neural network,” “pharmacokinetics,” “geographic atrophy,” “implementation,” “variability,” “adverse events,” “automated detection,” and “retinal images” were the research trends of research in the field of ophthalmology through 2021. The analysis of the subject categories demonstrated the close cooperation relationships that existed between different subject categories, and collaborations with non-ophthalmology-related subject categories were increasing over time in the field of ophthalmology research. Conclusions The hotspots in ophthalmology research were epidemiology, prevention, screening, and treatment of ocular diseases, as well as artificial intelligence and fundus imaging technology and telemedicine. Research trends in ophthalmology research were artificial intelligence, drug development, and fundus diseases. Knowledge from non-ophthalmology fields is likely to be more involved in ophthalmology research.

Abstract:Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) are demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, have drawn the attention of many researchers due to the relapsing courses and cumulative disability. A first bibliometric analysis of NMOSD was conducted to identify the research hotspots and emerging trends. Articles relevant to NMOSD published in the core collection of Web of Science were retrieved and analyzed through visualized analysis using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, focusing on annual publication trends, countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords. The analysis showed that over the past 30 years, publications related to NMOSD had shown steady growth with slight fluctuations. The United States played an important part in this field, with the highest outputs and the greatest number of citations. Research hotspots of NMOSD had gradually shifted from the definition, biomarkers, and diagnostic criteria to diagnosis and treatment, particularly immunotherapy. This bibliometric analysis provides researchers with a theoretical basis for studying NMOSD and offers guidance for future research directions.

Abstract:Optic neuritis(ON) is one of common neuro-ophthalmologic diseases which cause vision loss in young and middle-aged population. There are obvious differences in the incidence and the epidemiological characteristics among different countries and regions. A number of studies on ON have been carried out at home and abroad. In China, it is still lack of multi-center, prospective, large sample epidemiological studies so far. This paper reviews the epidemiological characteristics of ON through the related domestic and overseas literatures.

Abstract:Background: With the rapid global spread of COVID-19, it has become evident that the virus can lead to multisystem complications, leading to a significant increase in related publications. Bibliometrics serves as a valuable tool for identifying highly cited literature and research hotspots within specific areas. Objective: The aim of this study is to identify current research hotspots and future trends in COVID-19 complications. Methods: The dataset was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection, covering COVID-19 complications from December 8, 2019, to October 31, 2022. Various aspects, including publication general information, authors, journals, co-cited authors, co-cited references, research hotspots, and future trends, were subjected to analysis. Visual analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, The Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology, and Charticulator. Results: There were 4597 articles in the study. The top three countries with the most published articles are the USA (n = 1350, 29.4 %), China (n = 765, 16.6 %), and Italy (n = 623, 13.6 %). USA and China have the closest collaborative relationship. The institute with the largest number of publications is Huazhong University of Science and Technology, followed by Harvard Medical School. Nevertheless, half of the top 10 institutes belong to the USA. "Rezaei, Nima" published 13 articles and ranked first, followed by "Yaghi, Shadi" with 12 articles and "Frontera, Jennifer" with 12 articles. The journal with the largest number of publications is "Journal of Clinical Medicine". The top 3 co-cited authors are "Zhou, Fei", "Guan, Wei-Jie", "Huang, Chaolin". The top 3 co-cited references addressed COVID-19's clinical features in China and noticed that COVID-19 patients had a wide range of complications. We also list four research hotspots. Conclusions: This study conducted a bibliometric visual analysis of the literature on COVID-19 complications and summarized the current research hotspots. This study may provide valuable insights into the complications of COVID-19.

Abstract:Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is a common cranial nerve disease. In HFS research, we conducted a bibliometric analysis to examine the development and research trends. A retrieval of HFS studies published between 2011 and 2022 was performed from the Web of Science Core Collection in September 2022. Two scientometric tools were used to perform bibliometric and visualization-based analyses: VOSviewer and CiteSpace. Bibliometric analysis of 1461 studies published between 2011 and 2022 was carried out using data from 444 journals, 6021 authors, 1732 institutions, and 76 countries/regions. China, the USA, Japan, and South Korea were four key contributors to this study. Shanghai Jiaotong University was the major institution with the larger number of publications. Li Shiting was the most prolific author. Jannetta PJ was the most co-cited author. World Neurosurgery was the top prolific journal. Journal of Neurosurgery was the top co-cited journal. The top five keywords were hemifacial spasm, microvascular decompression, trigeminal neuralgia, surgery, and neurovascular compression. This study examines the research trends in global scientific research on HFS over the last decade. Researchers interested in learning more about current trends and novel research frontiers in this area can benefit from the study.

Abstract:BackgroundNeuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a demyelinating syndrome of the central nervous system. A tremendous amount of literature on NMOSD has been published. This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of the publications on NMOSD and show its hotspots and development trends.MethodsWe used the Web of Science Core Collection as a database and searched the literature published between 2002 and 2022. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, online bibliometric platform, and R-bibliometrix were used to conduct bibliometric analysis and network visualization, including the number of publications, citations, countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords.ResultsA total of 3,057 publications on NMOSD were published in 198 journals by 200 authors at 200 institutions from 93 countries/regions. The United States published the most literature and made great contributions to this field. The Mayo Clinic was the institution with the largest number of publications. The journal with the most publications was Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders, and the most co-cited journal was Neurology. The author with the most publications was Fujihara, K., while the most frequently co-cited author was Wingerchuk, DM. The current research hotspots may be focused on “efficacy,” “multicenter,” “interleukin-6 receptor blockade,” “safety,” “azathioprine,” “tolerance,” and “adult”.ConclusionThis study was the first bibliometric analysis of publications on the NMOSD field, visualizing its bibliometric characteristics and gaining insight into the direction, hotspots, and development of global NMOSD research, which may provide helpful information for researchers. Future research hotspots might be conducting randomized controlled trials on targeted immunotherapy in the NMOSD field.

Abstract:Background: Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) manifests in memory impairment, mental slowness, executive dysfunction, behavioral changes, and visuospatial abnormalities, significantly compromising the quality of daily life for patients and causing inconvenience to caregivers. Neuroimaging serves as a crucial approach to evaluating the extent, location, and type of vascular lesions in patients suspected of VCI. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis to discern the research status and emerging trends concerning VCI neuroimaging. Objective: This study endeavors to explore the collaboration relationships of authors, countries, and institutions, as well as the research hotspots and frontiers of VCI neuroimaging by conducting a bibliometric analysis. Methods: We performed a comprehensive retrieval within the Core Collection of Web of Science, spanning from 2000 to 2023. After screening the included literature, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were utilized for a visualized analysis aimed at identifying the most prolific author, institution, and journal, as well as extracting valuable information from the analysis of references. Results: A total of 1,024 publications were included in this study, comprising 919 articles and 105 reviews. Through the analysis of keywords and references, the research hotspots involve the relationship between neuroimaging of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and VCI, the diagnosis of VCI, and neuroimaging methods pertinent to VCI. Moreover, potential future research directions encompass CSVD, functional and structural connectivity, neuroimaging biomarkers, and lacunar stroke. Conclusion: The research in VCI neuroimaging is constantly developing, and we hope to provide insights and references for future studies by delving into the research hotspots and frontiers within this field.

Abstract:Background: The characteristic symptom of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is respiratory distress, but neurological symptoms are the most frequent extra-pulmonary symptoms. This study aims to explore the current status and hot topics of neurology-related research on COVID-19 using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Publications regarding neurology and COVID-19 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) on March 28 2022. The Advanced search was conducted using "TS = ('COVID 19' or 'Novel Coronavirus 2019' or 'Coronavirus disease 2019' or '2019-nCOV' or 'SARS-CoV-2' or 'coronavirus-2') and TS = ('neurology'or 'neurological' or 'nervous system' or 'neurodegenerative disease' or 'brain' or 'cerebra' or 'nerve')". Microsoft Excel 2010 and VOSviewer were used to characterize the largest contributors, including the authors, journals, institutions, and countries. The hot topics and knowledge network were analyzed by CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Results: A total of 5,329 publications between 2020 and 2022 were retrieved. The United States, Italy, and the United Kingdom were three key contributors to this field. Harvard Medical School, the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology were the major institutions with the largest publications. Josef Finsterer from the University of São Paulo (Austria) was the most prolific author. Tom Solomon from the University of Liverpool (UK) was the most cited author. Neurological Sciences and Frontiers in Neurology were the first two most productive journals, while Journal of Neurology held the first in terms of total citations and citations per publication. Cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, encephalitis and encephalopathy, neuroimmune complications, neurological presentation in children, long COVID and mental health, and telemedicine were the central topics regarding the neurology-related research on COVID-19. Conclusion: Neurology-related research on COVID-19 has attracted considerable attention worldwide. Research topics shifted from "morality, autopsy, and telemedicine" in 2020 to various COVID-19-related neurological symptoms in 2021, such as "stroke," "Alzheimer's disease," "Parkinson's disease," "Guillain–Barre syndrome," "multiple sclerosis," "seizures in children," and "long COVID." "Applications of telemedicine in neurology during COVID-19 pandemic," "COVID-19-related neurological complications and mechanism," and "long COVID" require further study.

Abstract:Background: Visual perception is a dynamic process of perceiving the environment through sensory input and transforming sensory input into meaningful concepts related to environmental visual knowledge. Many studies focusing on the role of visual perception after stroke have been published in various journals. However, a bibliometric analysis in the domain of visual perception after stroke is still lacking. This study aimed to deliver a visual analysis to analyze the global trends in research on the role of visual perception after stroke in the last 10 years. Methods: The literature was derived from the Web of Science core collection database from 2012 to 2021. The collected material was limited to English articles and reviews. CiteSpace and Microsoft Excel were used for bibliographic analysis. Results: A total of 298 articles were included in the analysis. The annual number of publications increased from 23 to 42 in the last decade. Rehabilitation was the main research hotspot ( n = 85). Journal of Physical Therapy Science published the largest number of papers ( n = 14). The most influential author, institution, and country were Rowe FJ ( n = 17), League of European Research Universities ( n = 45), and England ( n = 54), respectively. The keywords with the longest burst period are field defect, hemineglect, disorder , and quality of life . Conclusion: This study analyzes the papers on the role of visual perception after stroke in the past 10 years and provides a new perspective for research in this field. At present, the number of articles in this field is not large and the cooperation network is not close enough. In the future, it is necessary to strengthen the cooperation among various countries, institutions, and authors. In addition, large samples and randomized controlled trials are needed to identify the potential treatments and pathophysiology for visual perceptual impairment after stroke.

Abstract:Abstract Background This study aimed to highlight the status of research on PHN between 1985 and 2022 through a bibliometric analysis and a historical review. Methods The Web of Science database was searched, and 3,386 relevant articles were included in the study. Bibliometric analysis was used to review the field distribution, regional distribution, and research topic evolution. Results Trends identified in the literature indicate that research on PHN is increasing globally. The United States is the leading country, and the University of California system is the leading institution in terms of publications. Glaxosmithkline had the highest number of citation bursts, indicating its important role in PHN research and drug development. PHN is primarily associated with older age and immunosuppression. Treatment mainly involves pharmacological, nonpharmacological, and interventional treatments, although data supporting the use of physical interventions are lacking. The main psychophysiological effects experienced by patients with PHN are anxiety, insomnia, and depression. Additionally, PHN results in a significant economic burden. Two vaccines have been approved for herpes zoster. Finally, animal models of PHN are inadequate. Conclusions The findings of this study provide valuable information for future research on PHN, e.g., research is needed on the mechanism of PHN, the development of suitable animal models, and the long-term effects of interventional treatment.

Abstract:Objective::To analyze the current situation and hotspots in the field of high myopia with glaucoma using the bibliometrics method.Methods::In this literature research, articles about high myopia with glaucoma were retrieved systematically from the core database of Web of Science in the past ten years (2012—2022). The annual publication volume, countries, institutions, author cooperations, keywords and clusters were analyzed using CiteSpace software.Results::A total of 453 articles were retrieved and included in this study. The country with the highest publication volume was China (103 papers). The institution with the highest number of papers was Heidelberg University (46 papers), followed by Capital Medical University (35 papers), and Seoul National University (23 papers). Professor Jost B. Jonas (48 papers) ranks first in this field. The top five keywords are "Glaucoma" , "Myopia" , "Optical coherence tomography" , "High myopia" , and "Open angle glaucoma" . The research directions in this field focus on myopia-related refraction research, glaucoma-specific optic nerve changes, and high myopia-related optic nerve changes in glaucoma.Conclusions::High myopia combined with glaucoma is a hot field worldwide. China is at the leading level in this research. The research hotspots focus on fundus-related changes and it’s expected to guide the early screening and diagnosis of glaucoma in the future.
Depicting Developing Trend and Core Knowledge of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: A Bibliometric and Visualized Analysis

Abstract:Objective The prevalence of glaucoma is rising due to an increasing aging population. Because of its insidious and irreversible nature, glaucoma has gradually become the focus of attention. We assessed primary open angle glaucoma, the most common type of glaucoma, to study its present status, global trend, and state of clinical research. Methods Publications from 2000 to 2021 in Web of Science database were retrieved and analyzed by bibliometrics. VOSviewer and Citespace were used for analysis. Results A total of 6,401 publications were included in this review, and we found that the number of publications increased from 139 in 2000 to 563 in 2021. American researchers have published the most papers and had the highest h-index and the most citations, while the Journal of Glaucoma has published the most papers on this topic. Some key researchers, contributing institutions, their partnerships, and scientific masterpieces were identified. The publications we reviewed fall into seven categories: publications on intraocular pressure, normal tension glaucoma, risk factors, the trabecular meshwork, optical coherence tomography, surgery, and mutation. Clear study hotspots were described, which began with epidemiology and transitioned to pathogenesis and diagnosis and then to treatment. Conclusion Studies on primary open angle glaucoma extend well beyond ophthalmology to biochemistry molecular biology, general internal medicine, pharmacology, pharmacy, science technology, and other areas. Interest, research and publications on primary open angle glaucoma are on the rise.

Mapping knowledge domain of acupuncture for Parkinson's disease: a bibliometric and visual analysis

Abstract:Objective: This study points to probing the inclination and mapping knowledge domain of acupuncture for Parkinson's disease through bibliometrics. Methods: A search was conducted on 1 February 2024 using the Web of Science to identify papers published on acupuncture for Parkinson's disease. The analysis included scientific research, countries, organizations, authors/cited authors, keywords, journals, and cited references. Bibliometric data were analyzed using VOSviewer software, CiteSpace, GraphPad Prism, and Scimago Graphica. The studies on acupuncture for Parkinson's disease were visualized as a network map according to the publication year. Results: The cumulative publication trend on acupuncture for Parkinson's disease is increasing year by year. China is the leading contributor in this field. International collaboration is predominantly concentrated in Europe, while institutional collaboration is chiefly limited to Chinese universities specializing in traditional Chinese medicine. Park HJ is the most prolific author, with "Movement Disorders" being the journal with the most publications. "Brain Research" is identified as a key journal, reflecting a focus on neuroscience. Kim SN is the most cited author, while Eisenberg DM is a prominent author in this field. Research topics such as mouse models, systematic reviews, and non-motor symptoms are frequently explored, with messenger RNA of substantia nigra emerging as a notable keyword in this field. Choi YG's 2009 paper, published in the Neuroscience Letters journal, is a critical reference in this field. Key papers include Eisenberg DM's 1998 study on randomized trials of acupuncture for non-motor symptoms of PD, as well as research focusing on the neuroinflammatory regulatory mechanisms of acupuncture for PD. Conclusion: The bibliometric analysis offers an exhaustive generality of the advancement and worldwide trends in acupuncture treatments for Parkinson's disease, shedding light on potential avenues for prospective research.
Mapping the current trends and hotspots of vascular cognitive impairment from 2000–2021: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:This bibliometric analysis mapped the overall research structure of VCI and analyzed the current research trends and hotspots for future studies orientation. Aims To visualize the trends and hotspots in the scientific research related to vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) quantitatively and qualitatively. Methods Cross‐sectional bibliometric analysis of publications that related to VCI was conducted. Publications were found by searching in the Web of Science Core Collection database (WoSCC) – Edition: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI‐Expanded) from January 2000 to December 2021. Publication type was restricted to article and review in the English language. The downloaded data were screened and analyzed in January 2022. Results In total, 16,264 publications were identified, with a steady increase in annual publications. The United States was the leading country in VCI research regarding publication numbers and national influence. National Institute of Aging had the highest influence among all the institutes in the field of VCI. Philip Scheltens was the most active author. The top five active authors' publications focused on pathobiology, neuroimaging standards, risk factors, prevention, and the standard diagnosis of vascular dementia (VaD). A co‐cited publication clustering resulted in 19 main clusters, and the prevention, blood–brain barrier, cholesterol, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and VaD were the top 5 clusters. Moreover, burst keywords detection revealed that the "small vessel disease" is the current hotspot in the field of VCI. Conclusions This bibliometric analysis mapped the overall research structure of VCI and analyzed the current research trends and hotspots for future studies orientation. Neuroimaging, risk factors detection, and pathobiology are the current trends in VCI research. Small vessel disease and its mechanisms are the current hotspots of VCI research.
