Abstract:Dr. Beatrice Dionigi is an attending surgeon and assistant professor of surgery within the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY. She is also the associate program director of the General Surgery Residency and co-director of the Early Onset Colorectal Cancer Program, and the founder and president of Columbia's WINGS program—Women in Surgery Association. Originally from Pavia, Italy, she completed her medical school at the Università degli Studi di Pavia Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia, graduating with honors. Dr. Dionigi then performed her General Surgery Internship at NYPH Cornell Medical Center and her General Surgery Residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, including a postdoctoral surgery research fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital. Following this, she performed her Colorectal Surgery fellowship at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University in New Brunswick, NJ, before spending two additional years with us at the Cleveland Clinic as a clinical associate—focusing on reoperative and complex abdominal pelvic surgery. Dr. Dionigi is a busy surgeon and an educator. She has been awarded numerous teaching accolades, including the Columbia Department Teacher Award in surgery. She serves on multiple American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons committees, including the Young Surgeons Committee Mock Orals Chair; she is also a member of the ASCRS Leadership Task Force. She also serves as a question writer of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery Written Examination. She has multiple peer-reviewed publications, book chapters to her credit, and has given several lectures across the United States on various colorectal surgery and education topics. Additionally, when not in the operating room, her life revolves around her husband, Giovanni, and their son, Giorgio. They both inspire her to be the best version of herself, allowing her to find balance in life and never stop dreaming. Outside of work, Dr. Dionigi enjoys traveling around the world, skiing, running, and doing Pilates. She is also an avid reader. Recently, she has been driven to books by women authors on mentorship and leadership, to inspire her work inside and outside the operating room.
