Abstract:The Academy of Management (AOM) is emerging from the pandemic strongly because we are an engaged, caring, and committed global community of 20,000 members residing in 115 countries—including 5,600 student members. I describe four broad themes considered most critical by AOM members and initiatives addressing each: (a) Environmental sustainability, (b) inclusion, (c) research credibility, and (d) research usefulness and impact. Given the accomplishments I describe, we celebrate our success. But, at the same time, we do not interrupt our journey. Rather, we continue to improve and to innovate to realize our vision to: (a) remain the premier global community for management and organization researchers and educators and (b) continue advancing the impact of management and organization science on business and society worldwide. Abstract:Physicians generally underestimate their potential to influence social progress, despite substantial precedents for medical professionals leading important societal transformations. The author believes that our times require we challenge the notion that physicians have limited influence beyond clinical settings. Our voice is powerful and important. It needs to be heard. In light of these considerations, the author chose "What Matters" as the theme of the 2024 American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Annual Scientific Meeting held in Chicago on May 3-6. The topic was reflective of his personal conviction that physicians, by virtue of the public respect and goodwill maintained through their dedication to the art and science of medicine, possess unparalleled potential to enhance both individual and societal health and well-being. The 2024 AANS scientific program committee determined to create an unprecedented program that would allow the community of neurosurgery to engage with some of the greatest minds in American medicine, academics, journalism, technology and public life. All contributors were invited to weave their insights regarding what truly matters into a broad, thought-provoking intellectual and spiritual tapestry. Universally resonant themes such as empathy, innovation, resilience, leadership, value, trust and equity framed the cooperative dialogues, emphasizing our shared humanity and the core values uniting us-despite our differences. The objectives for the 2024 Annual Meeting were ambitious: to consider as a professional community themes of utmost importance to our professional and personal lives; to catalyze a profound reevaluation of our collective objectives; to envision an expanded common mission; and to inspire visionary leaders to collaborate on creating lasting value-both for the patients who are the principal focus of our shared devotion, and for society writ large.

Abstract:Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Ahead of Print. This plenary address was delivered just before learning the successful outcome of a bylaw amendment extending full American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA) membership to psychoanalytic psychotherapists, researchers, scholars, and all who share a commitment to psychoanalysis. This historic change culminated efforts over the previous four decades to rectify exclusionary harms and revitalize psychoanalysis in the United States as a clinical practice and a cultural force. Membership expansion is discussed in the historical and sociological context of psychoanalysis as a profession with a focus on organizational resistance to change. Professionalization established and legitimized psychoanalysis but also contained the seeds of gradual decline as monopoly over training and practice distanced APsA from the wider psychoanalytic community. Expanding membership beyond the profession is a step toward uniting the community and strengthening all applications of psychoanalysis, including the traditional form. These developments at APsA reflect changes in other disciplines that feature inclusion, generosity, situated learning, and distributed subjectivity in epistemic communities of practice.

Abstract:e23017 Background: The 2021-2022 Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) President’s Theme centered on strengthening a work culture that supports professional well-being and workforce resilience. To support this theme and help ensure sustainable high quality cancer care delivery, ACCC —an education and advocacy organization for the multidisciplinary oncology care team (MDT)—designed a multifaceted professional development initiative. Educational interventions were designed to address team member burnout and building resilience, critical issues facing members of today’s oncology workforce. Methods: ACCC designed a collaborative and bi-directional peer-support educational initiative to drive the mission of the 2021-2022 ACCC President’s Theme. Professional Development opportunities included: 1) Expert-led mindfulness meditation series of 10 guided exercises tailored to help MDT members manage through social, emotional, physical, and mental health challenges. 2) Professional development themed virtual meetings, styled as “Coffee Chat Learning Sessions,” facilitated by the ACCC President, addressing emergent challenges and opportunities facing MDT members. 3) Podcast series featuring timely topics related to MDT well-being and resiliency amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. Podcast topics include a) The Business Case for Hiring Oncology Social Workers. b) Leading with Gratitude. c) Coping with Pandemic Grief. d) A Summer of Disconnect for Cancer Professionals. e) COVID-19 Self-Care. f) Real-World Lessons from COVID-19. Results: The education initiative reached a diverse cohort of oncology care community members. 76 unique professionals participated in the small group “Coffee Chat Learning Sessions” from 25 states and represented 72 unique cancer care programs, practices, and institutions. The meditation series engaged more than 1,100 users and the podcast series garnered 1,870 learners. The podcast episode titled “COVID-19 Self Care” was the third most accessed ACCC Podcast episode of all time with more than 680 views. Over 2,900 learners accessed and engaged with the ACCC President’s Theme resources across the dedicated webpage from March 2021-January 2022. Conclusions: Anecdotal learner feedback has been overwhelmingly positive regarding this professional development educational initiative. In a climate of high burnout and health care worker fatigue, the ACCC 2021-2022 President’s Theme Education program has served as a unique lifeline and resource to members of the oncology community to restore and develop resiliency, enhance well-being, and advance professional connections and peer-to-peer support to meet continued challenges. Lessons learned from these activities will guide and inform future professional development opportunities.

Abstract:Dr. Geraldine McGinty is no stranger to both political accolades and medical honors. As an internationally recognized expert in health economics and an advocate for patient centered care, Dr. McGinty has gained global impact as an influential decision maker and leading figure in radiology and imaging informatics. In May 2018, McGinty became the first woman chair of the American College of Radiology(ACR), and in 2020 became the 97th ACR President (ACR, n.d.). 1 During her tenure, she spearheaded numerous initiatives from data science to health equity. In addition, she advocated for new governance structures to further the organization's mission of "empowering the radiologists of the future". 2 This year, we have the honor of highlighting her accomplishments and outlook towards the field's future as the 2024 American College of Radiology Gold Medal recipient– only the 15th female in over 100 years of ACR history to receive this most prestigious award.

Abstract:Over the years, our family of journals—owned by the International Society for Sexual Medicine and official journals of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH)—have published the Sandra Leiblum Presidential Address, delivered by the current ISSWSH president at the start of the annual meeting, as an editorial. This year is no different. I hope that some of you who read this journal were in attendance, but for those who were not, the mission of the ISSWSH very much aligns with the missions of our journals. By now, our members are used to me writing "Dear ISSWSH Community." I always update you on what is new with our society and a little something about what is happening with me. It is bittersweet that this is my last letter to you. But before I start, I was asked at our board meeting to reflect on my presidency. I just want to say how wonderful these last 2 years have been for me personally—a lot of work, a lot of fun, a lot of personal growth. I have interacted with so many people and have had so many rewarding experiences. I want to thank all of you for making that happen. During my presidency, I have tried to inspire our members to realize that everyone can make a difference in this world. In speaking last year about overcoming imposter syndrome, I have heard from so many of you that you, too, recognize that you were suffering from this and now have a stronger sense of worth. I have gotten to travel the globe both as myself and as a representative of the ISSWSH, and let me tell you how good it feels to tell people about our society, to see their sense of awe and wonder the first time they hear about the ISSWSH, and then to see their names appear on our membership application list. I have seen friends from other continents who for so long were only on my Zoom screen, and I have shaken hands and hugged new members. As a society, we have been growing our wings and will continue to do so.

Health for All: A Report of the 2020 Association of American Medical Colleges Learn Serve Lead Meeting

Abstract:Learn Serve Lead (LSL) is the signature annual conference of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), which focuses on the most pressing issues facing American medical practice and education. Unsurprisingly, the recent AAMC LSL conference at the end of 2020 centered on the multifaceted impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and racial inequity upon the medical community. At the LSL meeting, national leaders, practicing physicians from diverse specialties, and medical trainees discussed the impact of these challenges and ongoing strategies to overcome them. These efforts paralleled the AAMC mission areas of community collaborations, medical education, clinical care, and research. Additionally, this focus aligns with the ACR's core purpose: to serve patients and society by empowering members to advance the practice, science, and professions of radiological care. ACR is a member of the AAMC Council of Faculty and Academic Society and seeks to collaborate with other medical specialties to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, contribute to medical education, and voice the value of medical imaging for patient care. We summarize the major insights of this interdisciplinary conference and present tailored recommendations for applying these insights specifically within the radiology community. In addition, we review the parallels between the ACR and the AAMC strategic plans.

Abstract:This paper outlines the perspectives of the two currently appointed representatives of the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers (APAHC) to the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies (CFAS) of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The authors focus on why it is important for psychologists, especially those in academic health centers (AHCs), to be part of CFAS. The goal of the paper is to demonstrate how involvement in organizations like the AAMC helps AHC psychologists serve as ambassadors for psychology in AHCs and assists AHC psychologists in staying fluent regarding hot topics within academic medicine. The first author is a more senior member of APAHC, and so reflects the perspective of long-serving APAHC members; the second author reflects the perspectives of newer generations of APAHC members, those who have been active in APAHC for 10 years or less. The authors discuss their experiences being at national CFAS meetings. They describe meeting events including presentations such as those by national policy experts and scholars; and speed mentoring with medical residents from the AAMC Organization of Resident Representatives. Of special importance has been their opportunities for informal conversations with the AAMC’s President and CEO, Board Chair, and Chief Public Policy Officer. They also have participated in networking functions that encourage interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and relationship building.

Abstract:To celebrate the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology's (SCCAP) 25th Anniversary, we hosted a Past Presidents' Panel at the 132nd Annual Meeting of the American Psychological Association in Seattle, Washington, at which we acknowledged our transition from "young adult" to "adult." Three past presidents were chosen to represent different eras of leadership. Originally, Dr. Stephen P. Hinshaw was selected to represent 2002. As he unfortunately was unable to attend, his protégé, Dr. Steven Lee (president, 2018) substituted for Dr. Hinshaw. Rounding out the decades on the panel were Dr. Elizabeth McCauley (president, 2007) and Dr. Joan Asarnow (president, 2014). The panel was moderated by Dr. Yo Jackson (president, 2023) and was organized by Dr. Mary Fristad (president, 2009, 2012).
