Abstract:In this paper we research global dynamics and bifurcations of planar piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous polynomial differential systems. We present sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of a center in piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous systems. Moreover, the center is global and non-isochronous if it exists, which cannot appear in smooth quadratic quasi-homogeneous systems. Then the global structures of piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous systems are studied. Finally we investigate limit cycle bifurcations of the piecewise smooth quadratic quasi-homogeneous center and give the maximal number of limit cycles bifurcating from the periodic orbits of the center by applying the Melnikov method for piecewise smooth near-Hamiltonian systems.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a new method to study global dynamics of planar quasi--homogeneous differential systems. We first prove that all planar quasi--homogeneous polynomial differential systems can be translated into homogeneous differential systems and show that all quintic quasi--homogeneous but non--homogeneous systems can be reduced to four homogeneous ones. Then we present some properties of homogeneous systems, which can be used to discuss the dynamics of quasi--homogeneous systems. Finally we characterize the global topological phase portraits of quintic quasi--homogeneous but non--homogeneous differential systems.

Abstract:The Morales-Ramis theory provides an effective and powerful non-integrability criterion for complex analytical Hamiltonian systems via the differential Galoisian obstruction. In this paper we give a new Morales-Ramis type theorem on the meromorphic Jacobi non-integrability of general analytic dynamical systems. The key point is to show the existence of Jacobian multiplier of a nonlinear system implies the existence of common Jacobian multiplier of Lie algebra associated with the identity component. In addition, we apply our results to the polynomial integrability of Karabut systems for stationary gravity waves in finite depth.

Abstract:Completely integrable systems are dynamically simple in common sense, but they may have complicated dynamics around the points where their first integrals are not functionally independent. Tudoran in 2017 provided a criterion for characterizing stability of nondegenerated regular singularities of completely integrable systems. Here we present a new criterion which is more useful than that by Tudoran, in the sense that the cases that his criterion works on are also applicable to ours, whereas there are cases that our criterion works on but his does not.

Abstract:It is well known that the theory of continuous integrable system has been extensively developed since the famous work by Zabusky et al [1] and Gardner et al [2,3] on the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. A most important topic in the continuous integrable systems is detecting integrability for nonlinear partial differential equations. Integrability is closely related to the Lax pairs, the Hamiltonian structure, infinitely many conservation laws, the backlund transformation, arbitrary number of soliton solutions, symmetry, Painleve property and so on [4-8]. A number of continuous integrable systems, such as the KdV, the modified KdV, the nonlinear SchrÄodinger (NLS), the KP and so on, have been extensively studied.

Abstract:In this paper, we analyze the damped Duffing equation by means of qualitative theory of planar systems. Under certain parametric choices, the global structure in the Poincare phase plane of an equivalent two-dimensional autonomous system is plotted. Exact solutions are obtained by using the Lie symmetry and the coordinate transformation method, respectively. Applications of the second approach to some nonlinear evolution equations such as the two-dimensional dissipative Klein-Gordon equation are illustrated.

Abstract:We consider three classes of polynomial differential equations of the form (x) over dot = -y + P-n(x, y), (y) over dot = x + Q(n) (x, y), where P-n and Q(n) are homogeneous polynomials of degree n, having a non-Hamiltonian centre at the origin. By using a method different from the classical ones, we study the limit cycles that bifurcate from the periodic orbits of such centres when we perturb them inside the class of all polynomial differential systems of the above form. A more detailed study is made for the particular cases of degree n = 2 and n = 3.

Abstract:In nonlinear dynamics, there is a continuous exploration of introducing systems with evidence of chaotic behavior. The presence of nonlinearity within system equations is crucial, as it allows for the emergence of chaotic dynamics. Given that quadratic terms represent the simplest form of nonlinearity, our study focuses on introducing a novel chaotic system characterized by only quadratic nonlinearities. We conducted an extensive analysis of this system's dynamical properties, encompassing the examination of equilibrium stability, bifurcation phenomena, Lyapunov analysis, and the system's basin of attraction. Our investigations revealed the presence of eight unstable equilibria, the coexistence of symmetrical strange repeller(s), and the potential for multistability in the system.

Abstract:We consider a nine-parameter familiy of 3D quadratic systems, x ̇=x+P2(x,y,z), y ̇=−y+Q2(x,y,z), z ̇=−z+R2(x,y,z), where P2,Q2,R2 are quadratic polynomials, in terms of integrability. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of two independent first integrals of corresponding semi-persistent, weakly persistent, and persistent systems. Unlike some of the earlier works, which primarily focus on planar systems, our research covers three-dimensional spaces, offering new insights into the complex dynamics that are not typically apparent in lower dimensions.

New classes of quadratically integrable systems with velocity dependent potentials: non-subgroup type cases

Abstract:We study quadratic integrability of systems with velocity dependent potentials in three-dimensional Euclidean space. Unlike in the case with only scalar potential, quadratic integrability with velocity dependent potentials does not imply separability in the configuration space. The leading order terms in the pairs of commuting integrals can either generalize or have no relation to the forms leading to separation in the absence of a vector potential. We call such pairs of integrals generalized, to distinguish them from the standard ones, which would correspond to separation. Here we focus on three cases of generalized non-subgroup type integrals, namely elliptic cylindrical, prolate / oblate spheroidal and circular parabolic integrals, together with one case not related to any coordinate system. We find two new integrable systems, non-separable in the configuration space, both with generalized elliptic cylindrical integrals. In the other cases, all systems found were already known and possess standard pairs of integrals. In the limit of vanishing vector potential, both systems reduce to free motion and therefore separate in every orthogonal coordinate system.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the integrability of the non-negative solutions to the Euler-Lagrange equations associated with Weighted Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) inequality. We obtain the optimal integrability for the solutions. The integrability and the radial symmetry (which we derived in our earlier paper) are the key ingredients to study the growth rate at the center and the decay rate at infinity of the solutions. These are also the essential properties needed to classify all non-negative solutions. Some simple generalizations are also provided here.
On a Question of J.D. Meiss Concerning Anti-integrability for Three-Dimensional Quadratic Diffeomorphisms

Abstract:Three-dimensional quadratic diffeomorphisms with quadratic inverse generically have five independent parameters. When some parameters approach infinity, the diffeomorphisms may exhibit the so-called anti-integrability in the traditional sense of Aubry and Abramovici. That is, the dynamics of the diffeomorphisms reduce to symbolic dynamics on finite number of symbols. However, the diffeomorphisms may reduce to quadratic correspondences when parameters approach infinity, and the traditional anti-integrable limit does not deal with this situation. Meiss asked what about an anti-integrable limit for it. A remarkable progress was achieved very recently by Meiss himself and his student Hampton [SIAM J. Appl. Dyn. Syst. 21 (2022), pp. 650--675]. Under some conditions, using the contraction mapping theorem, they showed there is a bijection between the anti-integrable states and the sequences of branches of a quadratic correspondence. They also showed that an anti-integrable state can be continued to a genuine orbit of the three-dimensional diffeomorphism. This paper aims to contribute the progress, by means of the implicit function theorem. We shall show that the bijection indeed is a topological conjugacy and establish the uniform hyperbolicity of the continued genuine orbits.

Abstract:During the last decades, the study of discontinuous piecewise differential systems has become an interesting subject of research due to the important applications of this kind of systems to model natural phenomena. In the qualitative theory of differential equations, one of the interesting problems is the detection of the number of limit cycles and their configurations which remains open to date, except for very particular families of differential equations. Here, we are inspired to study the maximum number of limit cycles of the discontinuous piecewise differential systems separated by a nonregular line and formed by a linear center and one of the four classes of quadratic centers. The main tool used to prove our main results is based on the first integrals of such systems. All the computations of this paper are verified using the algebraic manipulator Mathematica.
