Abstract:We study a class of one-dimensional full branch maps introduced in Coates et al. (Commun Math Phys 402(2):1845–1878, 2023), admitting two indifferent fixed points as well as critical points and/or singularities with unbounded derivative. We show that can be partitioned into 3 pairwise disjoint subfamilies such that all have a unique physical measure equivalent to Lebesgue, all have a physical measure which is a Dirac- measure on one of the (repelling) fixed points, and all are non-statistical and in particular have no physical measure. Moreover we show that these subfamilies are intermingled : they can all be approximated by maps in the other subfamilies in natural topologies.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to study quadratic maps, in the sense of Leibman, between non-abelian groups. As a key result, we provide a complete characterization of quadratic maps through a universal construction that can be computed explicitly. Applications include the classification of quadratic maps on finite abelian groups, proving the non-existence of polynomial maps of higher degree on perfect groups, establishing stability results for polynomial maps, and presenting a general inverse theorem for the Gowers norm with non-abelian coefficients on perfect groups with bounded commutator width.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamical behavior of the family of complex rational maps which is given byfλ(z)=zn(z2n−λn+1)z2n−λ3n−1, where n≥2 and λ∈C⁎−{λ:λ2n−2=1}. This family of rational maps can be seen as a perturbation of the unicritical polynomial z↦zn if λ is small. We prove that the Julia set J(fλ) of fλ is either a quasicircle, a Cantor set of circles, a Sierpiński carpet or a degenerated Sierpiński carpet provided one of the free critical points of fλ is escaping to the origin or to the infinity. In particular, we prove that there exists suitable λ such that the Julia set J(fλ) is a Cantor set of circles, but fλ is not topologically conjugate to any McMullen map on their corresponding Julia sets.

Abstract:We study geometrically finite one-dimensional mappings. These are a subspace of $C^{1+\alpha}$ one-dimensional mappings with finitely many, critically finite critical points. We study some geometric properties of a mapping in this subspace. We prove that this subspace is closed under quasisymmetrical conjugacy. We also prove that if two mappings in this subspace are topologically conjugate, they are then quasisymmetrically conjugate. We show some examples of geometrically finite one-dimensional mappings.

Abstract:We study several classes of holomorphic dynamical systems associated with quadrature domains. Our main result is that real-symmetric polynomials in the principal hyperbolic component of the Mandelbrot set can be conformally mated with a congruence subgroup of $\textrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$, and that this conformal mating is the Schwarz function of a simply connected quadrature domain.

Abstract:We study critical orbits and bifurcations within the moduli space M-2 of quadratic rational maps, f : P-1 -> P-1. We focus on the family of curves, Per(1)(lambda) subset of M-2 for lambda is an element of C, defined by the condition that each f is an element of Per(1)(lambda) has a fixed point of multiplier lambda. We prove that the curve Per(1)(lambda) contains infinitely many postcritically finite maps if and only if lambda = 0, addressing a special case of Baker and DeMarco ('Special curves and postcritically finite polynomials', Forum of Math. Pi 1 (2013), doi: 10.1017/fmp.2013.2; Conjecture 1.4). We also show that the two critical points of f define distinct bifurcation measures along Per(1)(lambda).

Abstract:We study a family of birational maps of smooth affine quadric 3-folds, over the complex numbers, of the form x 1 x 4 − x 2 x 3 = constant, which seems to have some (among many others) interesting/unexpected characters: (a) they are cohomologically hyperbolic, (b) their second dynamical degree is an algebraic number but not an algebraic integer, and (c) the logarithmic growth of their periodic points is strictly smaller than their algebraic entropy. These maps are restrictions of a polynomial map on C 4 preserving each of the quadrics. The study in this paper is a mixture of rigorous and experimental ones, where for the experimental study we rely on Bertini which is a reliable and fast software for expensive numerical calculations in complex algebraic geometry.

Low-action holomorphic curves and invariant sets

Abstract:We prove a compactness theorem for sequences of low-action punctured holomorphic curves of controlled topology, in any dimension, without imposing the typical assumption of uniformly bounded Hofer energy. In the limit, we extract a family of closed Reeb-invariant subsets. Then, we prove new structural results for the U-map in ECH and PFH, implying that such sequences exist in abundance in low-dimensional symplectic dynamics. We obtain applications to symplectic dynamics and the geometry of surfaces. First, we prove generalizations to higher genus surfaces and three-manifolds of the celebrated Le Calvez-Yoccoz theorem. Second, we show that for any closed Riemannian or Finsler surface a dense set of points have geodesics passing through them that visit different sections of the surface. Third, we prove a version of Ginzburg-Gürel's "crossing energy bound" for punctured holomorphic curves, of arbitrary topology, in symplectizations of any dimension.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the three-dimensional quadratic diffeomorphism using a concept first introduced thirty years ago for the Frenkel-Kontorova model of condensed matter physics: the anti-integrable (AI) limit. At the traditional AI limit, orbits of a map degenerate to sequences of symbols and the dynamics is reduced to the shift operator, a pure form of chaos. Under nondegeneracy conditions, a contraction mapping argument can show that infinitely many AI states continue to orbits of the deterministic map. For the 3D quadratic map, the AI limit that we study is a quadratic correspondence whose branches, a pair of one-dimensional maps, introduce symbolic dynamics on two symbols. The AI states, however, are nontrivial orbits of this correspondence. The character of these orbits depends on whether the quadratic takes the form of an ellipse, a hyperbola, or a pair of lines. Using contraction arguments, we find parameter domains for each case such that each symbol sequence corresponds to a unique AI state. In some parameter domains, sufficient conditions are then found for each such AI state to continue away from the limit to become an orbit of the original 3D map. Numerical continuation methods extend these results, allowing computation of bifurcations and obtaining orbits with horseshoe-like structures and intriguing self-similarity. We conjecture that pairs of periodic orbits in saddle-node or period doubling bifurcations have symbol sequences that differ in exactly one position.

Abstract:We study the parameter space structure of degree $d \ge 3$ one complex variable polynomials as dynamical systems acting on $\C$. We introduce and study {\it straightening maps}. These maps are a natural higher degree generalization of the ones introduced by Douady and Hubbard to prove the existence of small copies of the Mandelbrot set inside itself. We establish that straightening maps are always injective and that their image contains all the corresponding hyperbolic systems. Also, we characterize straightening maps with compact domain. Moreover, we give two classes of bijective straightening maps. The first produces an infinite collection of embedded copies of the $(d-1)$-fold product of the Mandelbrot set in the connectedness locus of degree $d \ge 3$. The second produces an infinite collection of full families of quadratic connected filled Julia sets in the cubic connectedness locus, such that each filled Julia set is quasiconformally embedded.

Quadratic differentials with prescribed singularities

Abstract:The local invariants of a meromorphic quadratic differential on a compact Riemann surface are the orders of zeros and poles, and the residues at the poles of even orders. The main result of this paper is that with few exceptions, every pattern of local invariants can be obtained by a quadratic differential on some Riemann surface. The exceptions are completely classified and only occur in genera zero and one. Moreover, in the case of a nonconnected stratum, we show that, with three exceptions in genus one, every invariants can be realized in each connected component of the stratum. These results are obtained using the flat metric induced by the differentials. We give an application by bounding the number of disjoint cylinders on a primitive quadratic differential.

Abstract:Many authors have studied the local dynamics of holomorphic maps in C around a fixed point; see, for example, [4; 6] for an introduction to this field and known results. Most of the results are obtained under the assumption that the linear part of the map at the fixed point is diagonalizable. There are few results in the nondiagonalizable case. In [8], Coman and Dabija studied a special map with a Jordan fixed point and described its stable and unstable manifolds. In [1], Abate provided a systematic way of diagonalizing a map with a Jordan fixed point and proved several results under certain assumptions. In [2], Abate showed the existence of “parabolic curves” for holomorphic maps in C2 with an isolated Jordan fixed point. In [3], Abate studied a special map with a Jordan fixed point and proved the existence of an attracting domain under certain conditions. Study of low-dimensional nonlinear fractional difference equations of complex order

Abstract:We study the fractional maps of complex order, α e, for 0 < α < 1 and 0 ≤ r < 1 in one and two dimensions. In two dimensions, we study Hénon, Duffing, and Lozi maps, and in 1 d, we study logistic, tent, Gauss, circle, and Bernoulli maps. The generalization in 2 d can be done in two different ways, which are not equivalent for fractional order and lead to different bifurcation diagrams. We observed that the smooth maps, such as logistic, Gauss, Duffing, and Hénon maps, do not show chaos, while discontinuous maps, such as Bernoulli and circle maps,show chaos. The tent and Lozi map are continuous but not differentiable, and they show chaos as well. In 2 d, we find that the complex fractional-order maps that show chaos also show multistability. Thus, it can be inferred that the smooth maps of complex fractional order tend to show more regular behavior than the discontinuous or non-differentiable maps.
Dynatomic Galois groups for a family of quadratic rational maps

Abstract:For every nonconstant rational function $\phi\in\mathbb{Q}(x)$, the Galois groups of the dynatomic polynomials of $\phi$ encode various properties of $\phi$ that are of interest in the subject of arithmetic dynamics. We study here the structure of these Galois groups as $\phi$ varies in a particular one-parameter family of maps, namely the quadratic rational maps having a critical point of period 2. In particular, we provide explicit descriptions of the third and fourth dynatomic Galois groups for maps in this family.

Abstract: For a sequence of extrinsic or intrinsic biharmonic maps $u_j: M_j\rightarrow N$ from a sequence of non-collapsed degenerating closed Einstein 4-manifolds $(M_j,g_j)$ with bounded Einstein constants, bounded diameters and bounded $L^2$ curvature energy into a compact Riemannian manifold $(N,h)$ with uniformly bounded biharmonic energy, we establish a compactness theory modular finitely many bubbles, which are finite energy biharmonic maps from $\mathbb{R}^4$, or from $\mathbb{R}^4 / \Gamma$ for some nontrivial finite group $\Gamma \subset SO(4)$, or from some complete, noncompact, Ricci flat, non-flat ALE 4-manifold (orbifold). To achieve this, we develop a sophisticated asymptotic analysis for solutions over degenerating neck regions.
