Abstract:A new species of the genus Neoperla , N. donglaii sp. nov., is described from Yunnan Province of southwestern China. The new species is assigned to the N. lushana -complex of the N. ( Formosita ) subgenus due to the presence of paired, ventral spiny lobes of the aedeagus. The new species was compared with related species in the subgenus. Neoperla hamata Jewett, 1975 and N. idella Stark & Sivec, 2008 are newly recorded for China and N. quadrata Wu & Claassen, 1934 specifically from Yunnan Province, China. Neoperla quadrata had not been collected for 90 years.

Abstract:A new classification system for Protozygoptera is proposed. It is based on mass material from the Isady, Chekarda and Soyana localities. The new system is based on a set of wing venation characters. The hypothesis on the division of Protozygoptera based on their body structures is supplemented and confirmed (Nel et al., 2012). A three-segmented tarsal structure has been established for the archizygopteran family Kennedyidae. The infraorder Permagrionomorpha infraordo nov. is established. An additional character has been proposed to separate archizygopterans and permagrionomorphs based on the structure and morphology of the thorax. Lodeviidae is synonymized with Permagrionidae (junior synonym). Two new families, four new genera and 14 new species are described. A new family Progoneuridae fam. nov. is described based on a significant reduction in the wing longitudinal and transverse venation. It includes the genera Progoneura Carpenter, 1931; Azaroneura Nel et al., 2012; Progophlebia Felker, 2021, and Issadoneura gen. nov. (with a new species Issadoneura marilevorum gen. et sp. nov.). Based on re-examination of the type material from Chekarda, the genus Engellestes Nel et al., 2012 is assigned to a new family Engellestidae fam. nov. The following voltzialestids are described from the Upper Permian of the Vologda Region: Prototerskeja dubia gen. et sp. nov., Permosticta elegans gen. et. sp. nov., and Permosticta parva gen. et sp. nov. The diagnosis of the family Voltzialestidae is changed because of the inclusion of new genera. The genus Sushkinia Martynov, 1930 is transferred to Permagrionidae. The following permagrionids are described: Permagrion sharovi sp. nov, Permolestes obscurus sp. nov. , P. vjatkensis sp. nov., Salagoulestes martynovi sp. nov., Solikamptilon aequus sp. nov., Sushkinia angulata sp. nov., Triadolestes sakmarensis gen. et sp. nov., and T. mutovkensis gen. et sp. nov. The new material from Isady and Kargala suggests closer relationships of the Permian Permagrionomorpha and Triassic Triadophlebiomorpha. In the family Kennedyidae, Kennedya sylvensis sp. nov. and K. volatica sp. nov. are described from Chekarda, and K. ivensis Nel et al., 2012 is redescribed from Soyana.

Abstract:The Nearctic species of the shore-fly genus Scatophila Becker are revised. We treat 26 species of which three are new (type locality noted in parenthesis): Scatophila angusta sp. nov. (Oregon. Baker: Goose Creek (35 km E Baker City; 44°49.2'N, 117°27.79'W; 825 m)), S. bolwigi sp. nov. (Alaska. Valdez-Cordova (Census Area): Gulkana River (19.3 km N Glennallen; 62°16.1'N, 145°23.1'W)), and S. mystacina sp. nov. (Utah. Grand: Green River (15.3 km N; 39°7'N, 110°6.6'W; 1225 m)). Specimens of S. carinata Sturtevant and Wheeler syn. nov. are reported herein to be conspecific with S. tuberculosa Cresson, the latter name having priority. Five species (S. contaminata (Stenhammar), S. cribrata (Stenhammar), S. iowana Wheeler, S. mesogramma (Loew), and S. unicornis Czerny)) are discovered to have Holarctic distributions, especially the Alaskan fauna, and S. contaminata (Stenhammar) is reported for the first time from the Nearctic Region. Emphasis is given to structures of the male terminalia, which are fully illustrated and described. Detailed locality data and distribution maps for included species are provided. For perspective and to facilitate recognition of genera, the tribe Scatellini is diagnosed and a key to genera and species groups from the New World are provided.

Abstract:A new genus Acoptodera gen. n. is described to place Coptodera piligera Chaudoir, 1883 previously attributed to genus Trichocoptodera Louwerens, 1958, as well as new subgenus Pericalocephala subgen. n. to place remarkable new species from Vietnam: Acoptodera (Pericalocephala) paradoxa sp. n. By the presence of hairs on head, pronotum and elytra, new genus is similar with Trichocoptodera Louwerens, 1958, but can be easely distinguished by flattened pronotum with wide lateral margins and by rounded elytra with serrate edges and fringe of setae on the sides. The status and characters of genera thought to be near relatives of Coptodera genus-group, are briefly discussed. Images of habitus and genitalia are provided.

From "insect soup" to biodiversity discovery: taxonomic revision of Peloridinannus Wygodzinsky,1951 (Hemiptera: Schizopteridae), with description of six new species

Abstract:With only about 320 described species, Dipsocoromorpha is currently one of the smallest and least studied infraorders of Heteroptera (Hemiptera). Specimens are small (often 1 – 2 mm), live in cryptic habitats, are collected using specialized techniques, and curated material in natural history collections is scarce. Despite estimates of vast numbers of yet to be described species, species discovery and documentation has slowed compared to peak taxonomic activity in the mid-20th century. We show, using the genus Peloridinannus Wygodzinsky, 1951 (Hemiptera: Schizopteridae) as an example, that curating specimens from bulk samples already housed in natural history collections is an effective way of advancing our understanding of the biodiversity of this charismatic group of true bugs. Peloridinannus Wygodzinsky was described as a monotypic genus, known only from two female specimens from Costa Rica. Based on examination of 59 specimens from Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, and Peru, six new species of Peloridinannus are described, Peloridinannus curly sp.n., Peloridinannus larry sp.n., Peloridinannus laxicosta sp.n., Peloridinannus moe sp.n., Peloridinannus sinefenestra sp.n., and Peloridinannus stenomargaritatus sp.n. Further, males are documented for the first time for this genus. The holotype and paratype of Peloridinannus margaritatus Wygodzinsky are shown to belong to different species, and the paratype is transferred to Peloridinannus stenomargaritatus sp.n. Male and female genitalic characters, as well as wing venation and wing structure characters are documented using digital images including scanning and confocal micrographs. This taxonomic revision and morphological documentation will also provide a foundation for any future investigations into the enigmatic taxonomic position of Peloridinannus within the Schizopteridae.

Taxonomic Contributions on Macrogynoplax Enderlein and Enderleina Jewett (Plecoptera: Perlidae) from Brazil, Including a New Species Supported by Molecular and Morphological Data

Abstract:Stoneflies (Plecoptera) are aquatic insects widely used in ecological and monitoring studies as indicators of environmental quality due to their high sensitivity to pollution. Among Brazilian Plecoptera, Perlidae is the most diverse family, with four genera (Anacroneuria Klapálek 1909, Enderleina Jewett 1960, Kempnyia Klapálek 1914, and Macrogynoplax Enderlein 1909) and about 150 species. Herein, based on data from the barcode region of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene and morphological characters, we studied specimens of Enderleina and Macrogynoplax, mainly from the Brazilian Savanna. Our alignment with a total length of 608 base pairs included 23 COI sequences, of which 10 are new and 13 were obtained from GenBank. The sequences and congruence of the obtained species clusters were analyzed using neighbor joining. As a result, we describe a new species of Enderleina, the first of this genus in the Brazilian Savanna, and update the geographic distribution of some Macrogynoplax species. A new record was included for Macrogynoplax veneranda Froehlich 1984 in São Paulo state and the first record of M. yupanqui Stark 1996 in Brazil was also included. First records were made for Macrogynoplax matogrossensis Bispo and Neves 2005 and a Macrogynoplax specimen in Goiás and Bahia states, respectively. Consequently, we expanded the distribution of the genus in the Brazilian Savanna and Atlantic Forest. In addition, we provide observations on the morphological differences found among these species, discuss about the distribution of the genera, present molecular data discussing their contributions to the knowledge of the genus, and comment on the recommendations for future research considering a scenario of integrative approaches. Lastly, we present a key to identify the adult males of Enderleina.

Abstract:The Neotropical genus Piezonemus Jordan, 1904 (Anthribidae: Anthribinae: Piesocorynini Valentine, 1960) is reviewed. Lectotypes are designated for Piezonemus durus Jordan, 1904 and P. lateralis Jordan, 1904. A new species, Piezonemus espoch Trýzna, Caballero-Serrano & Carrasco sp. nov. , from Ecuador is described. A key to the now three known species of Piezonemus , and colour photographs of the types, are provided. Distinguishing features of the morphologically similar species of the genera Piezonemus and Piesocorynus Dejean, 1834 are given. A key to world genera of the tribe Piesocorynini is presented. The genus Afrophaenotherion Frieser, 1984 is here transferred from the tribe Stenocerini Kolbe, 1895 to the tribe Piesocorynini ( new placement ).

Abstract:A morphological review of the mantid genus Deroplatys Westwood, 1893 is presented. The type specimens of Deroplatys desiccata Westwood, 1839, D. trigonodera Westwood, 1889 and D. rhombica De Haan, 1842 are illustrated. The holotype of D. angustata Westwood, 1841 has been rediscovered in the NHM collection and the description of the external morphology and male genitalia are provided. Deroplatys horrifica Westwood, 1889 is now a new synonym of D. lobata (Guérin-Méneville, 1838). Three new species namely Deroplatys kinabaluensis sp. nov., Deroplatys nebula sp. nov. and Deroplatys xuzhengfai sp. nov. are described and illustrated. New identification keys were generated for both sexes. The distribution of the genus Deroplatys species is discussed and mapped.

Abstract:A revision of the south African genus Neopimus Özdikmen, Demir Türkeş, 2008 is presented. Based on revision of the type and additional material, three species are recognised. The genus Neopimus is redescribed and all species are described or redescribed and illustrated, two of them for the first time: Neopimus capensis Janák, sp. nov., from Eastern Cape Province, South Africa and N. zulu Janák, sp. nov., from KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The distribution of the genus is mapped and a key of species is presented.

Abstract:The genus Heteropsectropus Kaszab, 1941 (Tenebrionidae: Blaptinae: Platynotini) is revised to include the following three species: H. aenescens Kaszab, 1941 (type species); H. difficilis Koch, 1954; H. longantennatus Koch, 1954. Four synonymies are proposed: H. difficilis (= H. amaroides Koch, 1954 syn. nov., = H. natalensis Koch, 1954 syn. nov., = H. transvaalensis Koch, 1954 syn. nov.) and H. longantennatus Koch, 1954 (= H. montisdraconis Koch, 1954 syn. nov.). A new genus, Muelleropsectropus gen. nov., is introduced to accommodate Schyzoschelus malaisei Koch, 1954. Additionally, the following synonomies are introduced within Schyzoschelus Koch, 1954: Schyzoschelus dumosicola (= Schyzoschelus dumosicola var. diversipenis Koch, 1954 syn. nov.) and Schyzoschelus simplicipes (= Schyzoschelus simplicipes willowmorensis Koch, 1954 syn. nov.). Diagnostic features and relations between the genera of the Schyzoschelus generic group are discussed and an identification key to the genera and the species of Heteropsectropus is provided. Ovovivipary is reported for H. difficilis and represents the 15th known case of this mode of reproduction for darkling beetles. Abstract:Six species of Caucasian Perla are reviewed, and diagnostic morphological characteristics of all stages of development (where possible) are described, supplemented, and illustrated in detail with comparative light microscope and scanning electron microscopy images. The DNA barcoding of five species is presented. Two new morphologically and genetically distinct species, Perla schapsugica sp. nov. and Perla palatovi sp. nov. , are described for both sexes and all life stages in the North Caucasus, Russia, Krasnodar Kray. Reinstatement of Perla persica Zwick, 1975, as a valid species distinct from P. caucasica Guérin-Méneville, 1843, is proposed. A new record of P. persica is reported for the Greater Caucasus, Russia, North-Ossetia-Alania for the first time. Morphologically, these two latter species can be separated in male adults by the shape of the hemitergal hook on terga X, an additional ventral brush on the penis of P. caucasica , wing length, and color.

Abstract:Myopinella Michelsen (Diptera: Anthomyiidae) is a very small group of flies endemic to South America. The genus includes only two species, Myopinella angustifrons (Malloch) and Myopinella appendiculata (Stein). The species had been previously recorded from Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru. Here, we redescribe M. angustifrons and M. appendiculata based on female and male specimens, with detailed illustrations, photographs and scanning electronic microscopy images. We also present and describe in detail the outstanding modified male sternites for the family Anthomyiidae. Also, we analyze intraspecific and interspecific divergences with COI sequences of both Myopinella species and other Anthomyiidae, and present several new records. Finally, the generic name Myopinella Michelsen 2010 is revalidated.

Abstract:In this article I continue to publish the data obtained as a result of the revision of the subfamily Diamesinae, namely of the genus Pseudokiefferiella Zavřel, 1941. As we noted earlier (Makarchenko & Semenchenko 2023), before the start of molecular genetic study this genus was considered as monotypic, that is, with one species of Ps. parva (Edwards) in Holarctic region (Ashe & O’Connor 2009). According to work of Stur and Ekrem (2020), as well as the results of our research and data of GenBank, there are at least 6 species in the genus Pseudokiefferiella that are well separated by DNA barcoding, while adult males poorly differ morphologically. However, species of this genus can be successfully identified by the morphological structures of the pupa, if it is associated with a male imago. As confirmation of this, below is provided a description of Pseudokiefferiella ferringtoni sp. nov. from North America based on the adult male and pupa, in which the originality of a new species is corroborated by the morphological structures of the pupa.

Abstract:We revisit the diagnosis and evolution of aedeagal morphology in the tribe Ptomaphagini using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, here focusing on the genera Peckena Gnaspini, 1996 and Amplexella Gnaspini, 1996. In a revision of the genus Adelopsis Portevin, 1907 (previously with a non-monophyletic status), and based on a phylogenetic analysis, four new genera (with Neotropical distribution) were described in 1996. Among them, Peckena was based on a single species (from Peru) with a ventral opening as the plesiomorphic state of the aedeagus (whereas all other species in the subtribe Ptomaphagina have a dorsal opening); and Amplexella, based on two species (from Venezuela), with a typical aedeagus bearing an extremely long flagellum. SEM Images of the aedeagus of the species of the genus Peckena showed a dorsally visible notch cutting the left side of the aedeagus, as is the condition in the other neotropical ptomaphagines, but, still, the opening is indeed ventral. Based on that new information, we recognized and describe one new Brazilian species tentatively assigning it to the until now monotypic genus Peckena : Peckena verrucosa sp. n., from São Paulo and Minas Gerais states. There is a large geographical distance between the two species, placed on opposite sides of South America, with important phylogenetic and biogeographic implications. SEM images of the aedeagus of the species of the genus Amplexella showed that the opening of the aedeagus cuts the apical left side through a very narrow slit diagonally, and the dorsal opening is small and defined by a space between the apices of the left and right lobes, unnoticeable because it is obliterated by the thick flagellum coming out of it.

Seven species, namely D. breviventris (Ratzeburg, 1848), D. litae (Nixon,1972), D. mycale (Nixon, 1972), D. nixosiris (Papp,1976), D. sicarius (Marshall,1885), D. sophiae (Papp, 1972), and D. turkmenus (Telenga,1955), are newly recorded in China. One species, D. jilinensis Chen et Song, 2004, is synonymized with D. purdus Papp, 1977. Three new combinations, i.e., D. sugae (Watanabe, 1932), D. hamakii (Watanabe, 1932) and D. absonus (Muesebeck, 1965) are proposed. Phalonia epilinana Linne (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is newly recorded as a host of D. sicarius (Marshall). A key to the Chinese species of this species-group is provided.
