Abstract:We consider conditions for the decay in time of solutions of non-homogenous hyperbolic equations. It is proven that solutions of the equations go to $0$ in $L^2$ at infinity if and only if an equation's right-hand side uniquely determines the initial conditions in a certain way. We also obtain that a hyperbolic equation has a unique solution that fades when $t\to\infty$.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:We consider an abstract first order evolution equation in a Hilbert space in which the linear part is represented by a self-adjoint nonnegative operator A with discrete spectrum, and the nonlinear term has order greater than one at the origin. We investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions.We prove that two different regimes coexist. Close to the kernel of A the dynamic is governed by the nonlinear term, and solutions (when they decay to 0) decay as negative powers of t. Close to the range of A, the nonlinear term is negligible, and solutions behave as solutions of the linearized problem. This means that they decay exponentially to 0, with a rate and an asymptotic profile given by a simple mode, namely a one-frequency solution of the linearized equation.The abstract results apply to semilinear parabolic equations.

Abstract:The existence of a solution to the parabolic system with the fractional Laplacian (−Δ) α /2 , α > 0 is proven, this solution decays at different rates along different time sequences going to infinity. As an application, the existence of a solution to the generalized Navier-Stokes equations is proven, which decays at different rates along different time sequences going to infinity. The generalized Navier-Stokes equations are the equations resulting from replacing −Δ in the Navier-Stokes equations by (−Δ) m , m > 0. At last, a similar result for 3-D incompressible anisotropic Navier-Stokes system is obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the time-asymptotic behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem for multi-dimensional parabolic conservation laws with fractional dissipation. For arbitrarily large initial data, we obtain the optimal decay rates in L-2 and homogeneous Sobolev spaces for solutions to the equation with the power of Laplacian 1/2 < alpha <= 1 by using the time-frequency decomposition method and the energy method. Abstract:We investigate the decay estimates of global solutions for a class of one-dimensional inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equations. While most existing results focus on spatial dimensions $d\geq2$, the decay properties in one dimension remain less explored due to the absence of effective Morawetz inequalities. For equations without external potential, by establishing a localized Virial-Morawetz identity, we derive decay estimates in the context of the $L^r$-norm for global solutions within a compact domain as a time subsequence approaches infinity. This decay result can be applied to obtain a criterion for energy scattering. Additionally, by establishing another type of Virial-Morawetz identity under more strict conditions, we demonstrate the decay result for odd solutions for any time sequence that approaches infinity. Utilizing some results about bound states proved by Barry Simon, we also show that similar decay results hold for the global odd solutions of equations with suitable external potentials that contain inverse power type and Yukawa-type potentials.

Abstract:We prove decay estimates in the interior for solutions to elliptic equations in divergence form with Lipschitz continuous coefficients. The estimates explicitly depend on the distance from the boundary and on suitable notions of frequency of the Dirichlet boundary datum. We show that, as the frequency at the boundary grows, the square of a suitable norm of the solution in a compact subset of the domain decays in an inversely proportional manner with respect to the corresponding frequency. Under Lipschitz regularity assumptions, these estimates are essentially optimal and they have important consequences for the choice of optimal measurements for corresponding inverse boundary value problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with decay of weak solutions of several well-known incompressible fluid models, such as the n-dimensional ( ) Navier–Stokes equations with fractional hyperviscosity, the three-dimensional convective Brinkman–Forchheimer equations and the generalized SQG equation. A new approach, different from the classical Fourier splitting method develpoed by Schonbek (Commun Partial Differ Equ 11:733–763, 1986) and the spectral representation technique by Kajikiya and Miyakawa (Math Z 192:135-148,1986), is presented. By using the new approach, we can recover and improve some known decay results.

Abstract:Goal of this paper is to study the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions of the following doubly nonlocal equation ( − Δ ) s u + μ u = ( I α ∗ F ( u ) ) f ( u ) on R N where s ∈ ( 0 , 1 ) , N ≥ 2 , α ∈ ( 0 , N ) , μ > 0 , I α denotes the Riesz potential and F ( t ) = ∫ 0 t f ( τ ) d τ is a general nonlinearity with a sublinear growth in the origin. The found decay is of polynomial type, with a rate possibly slower than ∼ 1 | x | N + 2 s . The result is new even for homogeneous functions f ( u ) = | u | r − 2 u , r ∈ [ N + α N , 2 ) , and it complements the decays obtained in the linear and superlinear cases in Cingolani et al. (2022); D’Avenia et al. (2015). Differently from the local case s = 1 in Moroz and Van Schaftingen (2013), new phenomena arise connected to a new “ s -sublinear” threshold that we detect on the growth of f . To gain the result we in particular prove a Chain Rule type inequality in the fractional setting, suitable for concave powers.

Abstract:This paper tackles a class of nonlinear parabolic equations driven by the fractional p -Laplacian operator with a vanishing initial datum. Our primary aim is to investigate the well-posedness (existence and uniqueness) of solutions to the proposed model. Notably, we will establish two interesting results concerning the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions. The first result pertains to the scenario where the source term is independent of the solution. In this case, we demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of the solution via the classical monotone operator theory modulus vanishing initial datum. The second result deals with the case where the source term is nonlinear and strongly dependent on the solution. To establish the existence of a weak solution in this scenario, we will rely essentially on the use of Schaefer's fixed point theorem and supplement our approach with some new technical estimates.

Abstract:This is a continuation, and conclusion, of our study of bounded solutions u of the semilinear parabolic equation on the real line whose initial data have finite limits as . We assume that f is a locally Lipschitz function on satisfying minor nondegeneracy conditions. Our goal is to describe the asymptotic behavior of u ( x , t ) as . In the first two parts of this series we mainly considered the cases where either ; or and ; or else , , and is a stable equilibrium of the equation . In all these cases we proved that the corresponding solution u is quasiconvergent—if bounded—which is to say that all limit profiles of as are steady states. The limit profiles, or accumulation points, are taken in . In the present paper, we take on the case that , , and is an unstable equilibrium of the equation . Our earlier quasiconvergence theorem in this case involved some restrictive technical conditions on the solution, which we now remove. Our sole condition on is that it is nonoscillatory (has only finitely many critical points) at some . Since it is known that oscillatory bounded solutions are not always quasiconvergent, our result is nearly optimal.
