Abstract:We generalize the notion of Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of a graded triple $(M,R,I)$ in characteristic $p>0$ by proving that for any complex number $y$, the limit $$\underset{n \to \infty}{\lim}(\frac{1}{p^n})^{\text{dim}(M)}\sum \limits_{j= -\infty}^{\infty}\lambda \left( (\frac{M}{I^{[p^n]}M})_j\right)e^{-iyj/p^n}$$ exists. We prove that the limiting function in the complex variable $y$ is entire and name this function the \textit{Frobenius-Poincaré function}. We establish various properties of Frobenius-Poincaré functions including its relation with the tight closure of the defining ideal $I$; and relate the study Frobenius-Poincaré functions to the behaviour of graded Betti numbers of $\frac{R}{I^{[p^n]}} $ as $n$ varies. Our description of Frobenius-Poincaré functions in dimension one and two and other examples raises questions on the structure of Frobenius-Poincaré functions in general.

Abstract:A theory of Poincaré series is developed for Lobachevsky space of arbitrary dimension. For a general non-uniform lattice a Selberg-Kloosterman zeta function is introduced. It has meromorphic continuation to the plane with poles at the corresponding automorphic spectrum. When the lattice is a unit group of a rational quadratic form, the Selberg-Kloosterman zeta function is computed explicitly in terms of exponential sums. In this way a non-trivial Ramanujan-like bound analogous to “Selberg’s 3/16 bound” is proved in general.

Abstract:A solution is given to the following problem: how to compute the multiplicity, or more generally the Hilbert function, at a point on a Schubert variety in an orthogonal Grassmannian. Standard monomial theory is applied to translate the problem from geometry to combinatorics. The solution of the resulting combinatorial problem forms the bulk of the paper. This approach has been followed earlier to solve the same problem for the Grassmannian and the symplectic Grassmannian. As an application, we present an interpretation of the multiplicity as the number of non-intersecting lattice paths of a certain kind. Taking the Schubert variety to be of a special kind and the point to be the "identity coset," our problem specializes to a problem about Pfaffian ideals treatments of which by different methods exist in the literature. Also available in the literature is a geometric solution when the point is a "generic singularity."

Abstract: In this paper we derive an upper bound for the degree of the strict invariant algebraic curve of a polynomial system in the complex project plane under generic condition. The results are obtained through the algebraic multiplicities of the system at the singular points. A method for computing the algebraic multiplicity using Newton polygon is also presented.

Abstract:For every genuine irreducible admissible smooth representation $\pi$ of the metaplectic group $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$ over a $p$-adic field, and every smooth oscillator representation $\omega_\psi$ of $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$, we prove that the tensor product $\pi\otimes\omega_\psi$ is multiplicity free as a smooth representation of the symplectic group ${\rm Sp}(2n)$. Similar results are proved for general linear groups and unitary groups.

Abstract:Let G be one of the classical Lie groups GL(n+1)(R), GL(n+1)(C), U(p, q + 1), O(p, q + 1), On+1(C), SO(p, q + 1), SOn+1(C), and let G' be respectively the subgroup GL(n)(R), GL(n)(C), U(p, q), O(p, q), O-n(C), SO(p, q), SO (C), embedded in G in the standard way. We show that every irreducible Casselman-Wallach representation of G' occurs with multiplicity at most one in every irreducible Casselman-Wallach representation of G. Abstract:We study the behavior of the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of powers of an ideal in a local ring. In dimension two, we provide answers to some problems raised by Smirnov, and give a criterion to answer one of his questions in terms of a "Ratliff-Rush version" of the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity.

Abstract:For differential operators of Calabi-Yau type, Candelas, de la Ossa and van Straten conjecture the appearance of $p$-adic zeta values in the matrix entries of their $p$-adic Frobenius structure expressed in the standard basis of solutions near a MUM-point. We prove that this phenomenon holds for simplicial and hyperoctahedral families of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in $n$ dimensions, in which case the Frobenius matrix entries are rational linear combinations of products of $\zeta_p(k)$ with $1 < k < n$.

On an example by Poincaré and sums with Kronecker sequence

Abstract:This short and simple communication is motivated by recent papers by L. Colzani and A. Kochergin. We give a brief analysis of an example by Poincaré related to sums of the type $ \sum_{k=0}^{t-1} f(k{\alpha}+{x})$ where $f$ is a continuous periodic function and $\alpha$ is irrationaland its recent generalisations. Most of the constructions under consideration are well-known. In this note, we just wanted to bring all the results together and give a general and improved multi-dimensional formulation of a recent result by A. Kochergin, prove non-existence of a universal continuous function and discuss some of the related results in terms of Diophantine Approximation. In particular, in our opinion smoothness results involving Diophantine exponents $\omega$, $\hat{\omega}$ and $\hat{\lambda}$ had never been documented before.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we introduce the notion of "cyclic stratum" of a Frobenius manifold $M$. This is the set of points of the extended manifold $\mathbb C^*\times M$ at which the unit vector field is a cyclic vector for the isomonodromic system defined by the flatness condition of the extended deformed connection. The study of the geometry of the complement of the cyclic stratum is addressed. We show that at points of the cyclic stratum, the isomonodromic system attached to $M$ can be reduced to a scalar differential equation, called the "master differential equation" of $M$. In the case of Frobenius manifolds coming from Gromov-Witten theory, namely quantum cohomologies of smooth projective varieties, such a construction reproduces the notion of quantum differential equation. In the second part of the paper, we introduce two multilinear transforms, called "Borel-Laplace $(\boldsymbol \alpha,\boldsymbol\beta)$-multitransforms", on spaces of Ribenboim formal power series with exponents and coefficients in an arbitrary finite dimensional $\mathbb C$-algebra $A$. When $A$ is specialized to the cohomology of smooth projective varieties, the integral forms of the Borel-Laplace $(\boldsymbol \alpha,\boldsymbol\beta)$-multitransforms are used in order to rephrase the Quantum Lefschetz Theorem. This leads to explicit Mellin-Barnes integral representations of solutions of the quantum differential equations for a wide class of smooth projective varieties, including Fano complete intersections in projective spaces. In the third and final part of the paper, as an application, we show how to use the new analytic tools, introduced in the previous parts, in order to study the quantum differential equations of Hirzebruch surfaces. This finally leads to the proof of Dubrovin Conjecture for all Hirzebruch surfaces.

Hilbert Poincaré series and kernels for products of $L$-functions

Abstract:We study Hilbert Poincaré series associated to general seed functions and construct Cohen's kernels and double Eisenstein series as series of Hilbert Poincaré series. Then we calculate the Rankin-Cohen brackets of Hilbert Poincaré series and Hilbert modular forms and extend Zagier's kernel formula to totally real number fields. Finally, we show that the Rankin-Cohen brackets of two different types of Eisenstein series are special values of double Eisenstein series up to a constant.

Abstract:The notion of multiplicity of a module first arose as consequence of Hilbert's work on commutative algebra, relating the dimension of rings with the degree of certain polynomials. For noncommutative rings, the notion of multiplicity first appeared in the context of modules for the Weyl algebra in Bernstein's solution of the problem of analytic continuation posed by I. Gelfand. The notion was shown to be useful to many more noncommutative rings, especially enveloping algebras, rings of differential operators, and quantum groups. In all these cases, the existence of multiplicity is related to the existence of Hilbert-Samuel polynomials. In this work we give an axiomatic definition of algebras with a notion of multiplicity, which we call very nice and modest algebras. We show, in an abstract setting, how the existence of Hilbert-Samuel polynomials implies the existence of a notion of multiplicity. We apply our results for the category of min-holonomic modules -- a notion which coincides with holonomic modules for simple algebras -- and that shares many similarities with it. In particular, we generalize the usual results in the literature that are stated for Ore domains, in the more general context of prime algebras, and we show that rational Cherednik algebras admit a notion of multiplicity.

Symmetry and parity in Frobenius action on cohomology

Abstract:We prove that the Newton polygons of Frobenius on the crystalline cohomology of proper smooth varieties satisfy a symmetry that results, in the case of projective smooth varieties, from Poincaré duality and the hard Lefschetz theorem. As a corollary, we deduce that the Betti numbers in odd degrees of any proper smooth variety over a field are even (a consequence of Hodge symmetry in characteristic zero), answering an old question of Serre. Then we give a generalization and a refinement for arbitrary varieties over finite fields, in response to later questions of Serre and of Katz.

Abstract multiplicity theorems and applications to critical growth problems

Abstract:We prove some abstract multiplicity theorems that can be used to obtain multiple nontrivial solutions of critical growth $p$-Laplacian and $(p,q)$-Laplacian type problems. We show that the problems considered here have arbitrarily many solutions for all sufficiently large values of a certain parameter $\lambda > 0$. In particular, the number of solutions goes to infinity as $\lambda \to \infty$. Moreover, we give an explicit lower bound on $\lambda$ in order to have a given number of solutions. This lower bound is in terms of a sequence of eigenvalues constructed using the ${\mathbb Z}_2$-cohomological index. This is a consequence of the fact that our abstract multiplicity results make essential use of the piercing property of the cohomological index, which is not shared by the genus. Our result for the $p$-Laplacian is new even in the semilinear case $p = 2$.

Bounds for the Hilbert-Kunz Multiplicity of Singular Rings

Abstract:In this paper we prove that the Watanabe-Yoshida conjecture holds up to dimension $7$. Our primary new tool is a function, $\varphi_J\left(R; z^t\right),$ that interpolates between the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicities of a base ring, $R$, and various radical extensions, $R_n$. We prove that this function is concave and show that it's rate of growth is related to the size of $e_{HK}\left(R\right)$. We combine several known techniques to get effective lower bounds for $\varphi,$ which translate to improved bounds on the size of Hilbert-Kunz multiplicities of singular rings. The improved inequalities are powerful enough to show that the conjecture of Watanabe and Yoshida holds in dimension $7$.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to study Frobenius Poisson algebras. We introduce pseudo-unimodular Poisson algebras by generalizing unimodular Poisson algebras, and investigate Batalin-Vilkovisky structures on their cohomology algebras. For any Frobenius Poisson algebra, all Batalin-Vilkovisky operators on its Poisson cochain complex are described explicitly. It is proved that there exists a Batalin-Vilkovisky operator on its cohomology algebra which is induced from a Batalin-Vilkovisky operator on the Poisson cochain complex, if and only if the Poisson structure is pseudo-unimodular. The relation between modular derivations of polynomial Poisson algebras and those of their truncated Poisson algebras is also described in some cases.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to provide formulas for the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of fiber products and idealization rings. We calculate the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of a fiber product $R \times_T S$, with $R$, $S$ and $T$ being Noetherian local rings with common characteristic and residue field. Inspired by a work of Strazzanti and Armengou we calculate the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of an idealization ring $R \ltimes M$, where $M$ is a finite $R$-module. We explore certain examples and structural consequences and obtain some bounds for the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity.

Complex Monge-Ampère equation for positive $(p,p)$ forms on compact Kähler manifolds

Abstract:A complex Monge-Ampère equation for differential $(p,p)$ forms is introduced on compact Kähler manifolds. For any $1 \leq p < n$, we show the existence of smooth solutions unique up to adding constants. For $p=1$, this corresponds to the Calabi-Yau theorem proved by S. T. Yau, and for $p=n-1$, this gives the Monge-Ampère equation for $(n-1)$ plurisubharmonic functions solved by Tosatti-Weinkove. For other $p$ values, this defines a non-linear PDE that falls outside of the general framework of Caffarelli-Nirenberg-Spruck. Further, we define a geometric flow for higher-order forms that preserves their cohomology classes, and extends the Kähler-Ricci flow naturally to $(p,p)$ forms. As a consequence of our main theorem, we show that this flow exists in a maximal time interval and can be shown to converge under some assumptions. A modified flow is introduced in order to study the evolution of Hodge classes of $M$ with respect to the rational span of Chern classes of holomoprhic vector bundles. The convergence of the associated normalized flow is shown and some potential applications are discussed.
