Abstract:We prove that the moduli space of all noncongruent linearly full totally real flat minimal immersions from the complex plane C into HP^3 that do not lie in CP^3 has three components, each of which is a manifold of real dimension 6. As an application, we give a description of the moduli space of all noncongruent linearly full totally real flat minimal tori in HP^3 that do not lie in CP^3.

Abstract:Let HP n be the quaternionic projective space with constant quaternionic sectional curvature 4. Then locally there exists a tripe { I, J, K } of complex structures on ℍ P n satisfying IJ = - JI = K,JK = - KJ = I,KI = - IK = J . A surface M ⊂ ℍ P n is called totally real, if at each point p ∈ M the tangent plane T p M is perpendicular to I ( T p M ), J ( T p M ) and K ( T p M ). It is known that any surface M ⊂ ℝ P n ⊂ ℍ P n is totally real, where ℝ P n ⊂ ℍ P n is the standard embedding of real projective space in ℍ P n induced by the inclusion ℝ in ℍ, and that there are totally real surfaces in ℍ P n which don’t come from this way. In this paper we show that any totally real minimal 2-sphere in ℍ P n is isometric to a full minimal 2-sphere in ℝ P 2m ⊂ ℝ P n ⊂ ℍ P n with 2 m ≤ n . As a consequence we show that the Veronese sequences in ℝ P 2m ( m ≥ 1) are the only totally real minimal 2-spheres with constant curvature in the quaternionic projective space.

Abstract:In this paper, we study geometry of totally real minimal surfaces in the complex hyperquadric $Q_{N-2}$, and obtain some characterizations of the harmonic sequence generated by these minimal immersions. For totally real flat surfaces that are minimal in both $Q_{N-2}$ and $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$, we determine them for $N=4, 5, 6$, and give a classification theorem when they are Clifford solutions.

Under this framework, minimal surfaces in the nearly Kahler S-6 are studied. A complete classification for complete minimal surfaces in S-6 With constant Kahler angle and nonnegative curvature is given. Moreover, almost complex curves in S-6 are considered.

Abstract:Let (M, J(alpha), alpha = 1, 2, 3) and (N, J(alpha), alpha = 1, 2, 3) be hyperkahler manifolds. We study stationary quaternionic maps between M and N. We first show that if there are no holomorphic 2-spheres in the target then any sequence of stationary quaternionic maps with bounded energy subconverges to a stationary quaternionic map strongly in W-1,W-2(M, N). We then find that certain tangent maps of quaternionic maps give rise to an interesting minimal 2-sphere. At last we construct a stationary quaternionic map with a codimension-3 singular set by using the embedded minimal S-2 in the hyperkahler surface (M) over tilde (0)(2) studied by Atiyah-Hitchin.

Abstract:We describe explicitly all quaternionic contact hypersurfaces (qc-hypersurfaces) in the flat quaternion space $\Hnn$ and the quaternion projective space. We show that up to a quaternionic affine transformation a qc-hypersurface in $\Hnn$ is contained in one of the three qc-hyperquadrics in $\Hnn$. Moreover, we show that an embedded qc-hypersurface in a hyper-Kähler manifold is qc-conformal to a qc-Einstein space and the Riemannian curvature tensor of the ambient hyper-Kähler metric is degenerate along the hypersurface.

Abstract:Let psi:S2 --> C P(n) be an isometric minimal immersion of the Riemann sphere S2 into CP(n) with constant Kahler angle theta. In this paper, we prove that Bolton et al.'s conjecture holds if theta is not too close to pi/2, that is, psi is +/- holomorphic or belongs to the Veronese sequence if \cos theta\ greater-than-or-equal-to 1/5.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{M}(n,m;\F \bp^n)$ be the configuration space of $m$-tuples of pairwise distinct points in $\F \bp^n$, that is, the quotient of the set of $m$-tuples of pairwise distinct points in $\F \bp^n$ with respect to the diagonal action of ${\rm PU}(1,n;\F)$ equipped with the quotient topology. It is an important problem in hyperbolic geometry to parameterize $\mathcal{M}(n,m;\F \bp^n)$ and study the geometric and topological structures on the associated parameter space. In this paper, by mainly using the rotation-normalized and block-normalized algorithms, we construct the parameter spaces of both $\mathcal{M}(n,m; \bhq)$ and $\mathcal{M}(n,m;\bp(V_+))$, respectively.

Abstract:The recent definition of slice regular function of several quaternionic variables suggests a new notion of quaternionic manifold. We give the definition of quaternionic regular manifold, as a space locally modeled on $\mathbb{H}^n$, in a slice regular sense. We exhibit some significant classes of examples, including manifolds which carry a quaternionic affine structure.

Abstract:We show that the fundamental 4-form on a quaternionic contact manifold of dimension at least eleven is closed if and only if the torsion endomorphism of the Biquard connection vanishes. This condition characterizes quaternionic contact structures which are locally qc homothetic to 3-Sasakian structures.

Differential Geometry and its Applications

Abstract:Penrose's two-spinor notation for 4-dimensional Lorentzian manifolds is extended to two-component notation for quaternionic manifolds, which is a useful tool for calculation. We can construct a family of quaternionic complexes over unimodular quaternionic manifolds only by elementary calculation. On complex quaternionic manifolds as complexification of quaternionic Kähler manifolds, the existence of these complexes was established by Baston by using twistor transformations and spectral sequences. Unimodular quaternionic manifolds constitute a large nice class of quaternionic manifolds: there exists a very special curvature decomposition; the conformal change of a unimodular quaternionic structure is still unimodular quaternionic; the complexes over such manifolds are conformally invariant. This class of manifolds is the real version of torsion-free QCFs introduced by Bailey and Eastwood. These complexes are elliptic. We also obtain a Weitzenböck formula to establish vanishing of the cohomology groups of these complexes for quaternionic Kähler manifolds with negative scalar curvatures.
Quaternionic projective invariance of the k-Cauchy-Fueter complex and applications I

Abstract:The k-Cauchy-Fueter complex in quaternionic analysis is the counterpart of the Dolbeault complex in complex analysis. In this paper, we find the explicit transformation formula of these complexes under SL(n+1,ℍ), which acts on ℍ^ n as quaternionic fractional linear transformations. These transformation formulae have several interesting applications to k-regular functions, the quaternionic counterpart of holomorphic functions, and geometry of domains. They allow us to construct the k-Cauchy-Fueter complex over locally projective flat manifolds explicitly and introduce various notions of pluripotential theory on this kind of manifolds. We also introduce a quaternionic projectively invariant operator from the quaternionic Monge-Ampère operator, which can be used to find projectively invariant defining density of a domain, generalizing Fefferman's construction in complex analysis.

Abstract: We clarify the linear algebra used in the quaternionic pluripotential theory so that proofs of several results there can be greatly simplified. In particular, we characterize and normalize real $2$-forms with respect to the quaternionic structure, and show that the Moore determinant of a quaternionic hyperhermitian matrix is the coefficient of the exterior product of the associated real $2$-form. As a corollary, the quaternionic Monge-Amp\`{e}re operator is the coefficient of the exterior product of the Baston operator.

Abstract:We introduce a structural approach to study Lagrangian submanifolds of the complex hyperquadric in arbitrary dimension by using its family of non-integrable almost product structures.In particular,we define local angle functions encoding the geometry of the Lagrangian submanifold at hand.We prove that these functions are constant in the special case that the Lagrangian immersion is the Gauss map of an isoparametric hypersurface of a sphere and give the relation with the constant principal curvatures of the hypersurface.We also use our techniques to classify all minimal Lagrangian submanifolds of the complex hyperquadric which have constant sectional curvatures and all minimal Lagrangian submanifolds for which all local angle functions,respectively all but one,coincide.

Abstract:We prove that there do not exist odd-dimensional stable compact minimal immersions in the product of two complex projective spaces. We also prove that the only stable compact minimal immersions in the product of a quaternionic projective space with any other Riemannian manifold are the products of quaternionic projective subspaces with compact stable minimal immersions of the second manifold in the Riemmanian product. These generalize similar results of the second-named author of immersions with low dimensions or codimensions to immersions with arbitrary dimensions. In addition, we prove that the only stable compact minimal immersions in the product of a octonionic projective plane with any other Riemannian manifold are the products of octonionic projective subspaces with compact stable minimal immersions of the second manifold in the Riemmanian product.

Abstract:We present the topological foundation for solvability of Multiplicative Cousin problems formulated on an axially symmetric domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb H.$ In particular, we provide a geometric construction of quaternionic Cartan coverings, which are generalizations of (complex) Cartan coverings as presented in Section 4 of [FP]. Because of the requirements of symmetry inherent to the domains of definition of quaternionic regular functions, the existence of quaternionic Cartan coverings of $\Omega$ is not a consequence of existence of complex Cartan coverings, because for the latter there are no requirements for the symmetries with respect to the real axis. Due to the special role of the real axis, also the covering restricted to $\Omega \cap \mathbb R$ has to have additional properties. All these required properties were achieved by starting from a particular symmetric tiling of the symmetric set $\Omega \cap (\mathbb R + i\mathbb R)$. Finally we provide an application of these results to prove the vanishing of 'antisymmetric' cohomology groups of planar symmetric domains for $n \geq 2$.
