Abstract:Traditional festivals and events, by which the local people can strengthen their own city identity, can be taken as an effective measure to discover and preserve the local historical and cultural treasures. The impacts of those festivals and events in Japan, which nearly cover all the aspects of the Japanese society, has been playing an important role in promoting the persistence of those unique traditional cultures and customs in local area, and even made an effort in shaping the inter-personal relationship in community levels. The paper discusses the interrelationship among three factors, namely, the tourist festivals, conservation of local cultures and traditions, as well as the community development. Following that, several key points have been suggested by the author for successful tourism development in festivals and events.

Abstract:The paper researches manifestations and forms of the communication of competitions and festivals. The purpose of this research is to consider and characterize the phenomenon of the communication of competitions and festivals and to determine its main manifestations and forms. The initial guideline of the study was the statement that festivals and competitions perform many of functions, but most researchers distinguish the communication function as the main one. The research was held by collecting a source base on select issues. Author selected scientific papers, dissertations, monographs, as well as held her own observations of various competition-festivals organization. The next step is to analyze the selected literature. Author identified the degree of elect issues study, in particular, the phenomenon of the communication in competitions and festivals, its manifestations and forms etc. Author took into account her own experience in organization and holding of competitions and festivals too. As a result the paper the original classification of all observed manifestations and forms of the communication on competitions and festivals.

Abstract:The Lantern Festival in Baiqueyuan Town, Guangshan, is a long-standing traditional folk custom and the best-preserved folklore fire celebration in southern Henan Province. Through in-depth interviews, this study exam-ines how the Lantern Festival in Baiqueyuan Town, Guangshan, takes ad-vantage of modern media and plays to its strengths in the context of social media to culturally interpret the Lantern Festival in Baiqueyuan Town, and how the collective memory of the event as a ritual phenomenon is con-structed. The study also examines how the collective memory of the lantern festival as a ritual phenomenon is constructed.

Abstract:. Traditional festivals carry and maintain the festival memory and cultural identity of a nation. In its speciﬁc time and space cycle, the connotation and scale of festivals are strengthened and extended by ceremonial festival performances. In the era of media, the media narrative logic of Internet group communication based on the weak connection and strong interaction between Internet groups shows a rich face and bursts out new vitality. On the basis of promoting cultural exchange, the global mobility of information will also bring potential risks to cultural identity. Therefore, it is necessary to reasonably examine the impact of Internet group communication on holiday cultural identity, and prevent and resolve the negative impact of Internet group communication on holiday identity.

Abstract:Festivals and special events have been one of the fastest developing tourism attractions,and the related service industries have been the key parts of destination's economic and social development strategies.On the other hand,during the past two decades,there has been increasing awareness that customer value is the next source of competitive advantage.However,results clearly revealed that service failures and crises related festivals were common.One of the key reasons is that many festival organizers choose product orientation rather than market orientation.It is revealed that the degree of market orientation is a key success factor of festivals and special events.The research presents in this paper focuses on consumer perceived value and satisfaction in festival experiences,analyses what dimensions that consumer value have and how value dimensions influence perceived value and visitor satisfaction.Special attention is paid to the cognitive and affective dimensions of consumer service experiences in festival events.

Abstract:In the contemporary context of globalization and digitization, the communication of Chinese traditional festival culture not only involves the inheritance and promotion of culture but also pertains to the cultural identity and self-confidence of the Chinese nation. Starting from the perspective of the values conveyed, this paper emphasizes the role of traditional festival culture in strengthening the shaping of social ideology, maintaining a balance between the local and global aspects of culture, and highlighting its significance in the dialectical interaction with modern technology in the era of the internet. Subsequently, the paper proposes strategies for innovating content, utilizing advanced technology, enhancing interaction with audiences, and promoting cross-disciplinary integration to effectively propagate Chinese traditional festival culture in the online environment. Simultaneously, considering the impact of social transformation and external cultural influences, this study systematically analyzes potential challenges in the communication process and puts forth corresponding measures to promote the construction of cultural self-confidence in China through the dissemination of traditional festival culture.

Abstract:The Festivalization of Culture explores the links between various local and global cultures, communities, identities and lifestyle narratives as they are both constructed and experienced in the festival context. Drawing on a wide range of case studies from Australia and Europe, festivals are examined as sites for the performance and critique of lifestyle, identity and cultural politics; as vehicles for the mobilization and cementation of local and global communities; and as spatio-temporal events that inspire and determine meaning in people's lives. Investigating the manner in which festivals are no longer merely periodic, cultural, religious or historical events within communities, but rather a popular means through which citizens consume and experience culture, this book also sheds light on the increasing diversity of contemporary societies and the role played by festivals as sites of cohesion, cultural critique and social mobility. As such, this book will be of interest to those working in areas such as the sociology, consumption and commodification of culture, social and cultural geography, anthropology, cultural studies and popular music studies.

Abstract:Landscape is an important object for research on local culture from a cultural geographical perspective. It is the spatial nature of memory that has seen the integrative study of memory and landscape receive increased attention from human geographers. The Qiqiao Festival is a traditional folk festival in the Lingnan region of Southern China. After half a century of suppression, the Qiqiao Festival in Zhucun was publically revitalized as the Guangzhou Qiqiao Cultural Festival, which coincided with the changing structure and significance of the landscape. This paper selected Zhucun, a typical urban village, as its case study and constructed an index system of festival landscapes. Through in-depth interviews, this paper studied the revival and restructure process of the Qiqiao Festival, and the role that landscapes play in the formation mechanism of memory on the part of subjects with different identities. The results showed that the elite and the local government selectively restructure festival landscapes, replacing authentic landscapes with “official” ones. The selection and production of a festival landscape constructed different memories among the subjects, where the festival memory of grassroots villagers was self-constructed and mostly came from traditional festival landscape elements while top-down interventions in the festival landscape constructed a different “official” memory for citizens and migrants to those of the villagers. The contemporary festival deviates from the original, which has weakened the conscious degree of cultural evolution and has had a reaction on the authenticity of memory. This research serves a reference for approaches in planning and conserving intangible cultural heritage in historic villages.

Constructing the festival tourist attraction from the perspective of Peircean semiotics: The case of Guangzhou, China

Abstract:Based on the Peircean semiotic theory, this study aims to explore the semiotic construction of a festival tourist attraction using the Guangfu Temple Fair in China as a case. A qualitative research method of grounded theory was used to analyze the organizers' planning scheme, conference materials, 7 interviews, and 45 tourists' interviews. We found that festival organizers produce festivalscape based on social values and tourists' expectations, including safety assurance, cultural activity, personnel service, facilities, creative interaction, food, a trade show, and the festival atmosphere. Tourists in the festivalscape, through cultural, novel, social, and emotional experience and collateral observations, assign meaning to the festival's attractiveness in terms of cultural diversity, vibrant activities, distinctive features, and a sense of ceremony. These findings indicate that organizers' sign production and tourists' sign interpretation constitute the conceptual model of the semiotic construction of festivals as tourist attractions. Furthermore, the study extends the understanding of tourist attractions and will help organizers to create successful festival attractions.

Abstract:Classical study of political dissemination is always controlled by two subjects:politics and sociology.In the information age,the former,under the context of information dissemination,reexamines and carries out a theoretical investigation of traditional issues concerning politics,puts forward propositions like "digital democracy"(Brian Road,Digital Democracy)and "virtual politics"(Mark Slouka,The Big Conflict)and then probes into the essence of politics in the information age;the latter focuses on the dissemination result of political information and corresponding social influences,as is shown in Manuel Castells' The rise of the Network Society,in which he expounds the difference between network political management and traditional linear political management and thus capitalism is restructured.However,it is quite different if cultural study is taken:first,cultural study maintains that culture is the way of living so politics is not only the business of government and politicians but of others;second,cultural study emphasizes the so-called representation,i.e.,the power and path making politics symbolic and the ideology manipulating them.The four papers chosen are about the political dissemination from these two angles.Zhu Lili's Ethnic Discourse,Visual Wonder and Consumerism explores the national discourse and ethnic discourse in the 2010 Spring Festival gala and analyses the path for them and social psychology from the angles of social psychology and commercial logic;Yang Derui's Identity of Anxiety and Physical Paranoid:Sensational Politics in Taiwan Media studies Taiwan politics,probes into the reason why the so-called sensational information dissemination is popular in Taiwan politics and concludes that it's not completely originated from the politician's political objective and the media's aim of dissemination but from Taiwanese's identity of anxiety and their paranoid of sensitivity;Tang Junbing's Visual Shift of National Ritual and Change of the Path for Dissemination puts forward a proposition that with the development of the media,the dissemination of national rituals becomes visualized and therefore,its political mechanism changes too and results in a transformation of political culture;Qi Lin's Macro Network Civilization in the Perspective of Cultural Study,by means of Hall's representation,explores the political mechanism behind the social phenomenon of macro network civilization and possible social effects.The four articles are all based on politics but in the end drift away from it by focusing on human feelings and social changes,which actually tend to be interdisciplinary and this is just where the spirit of cultural study lies.

Abstract:The International Cultural Tourism Festival refers to an international cultural tourism festival held in a region. On the one hand, it has the function of increasing economic vitality and promoting healthy economic development. On the other hand, it has the significance of promoting multicultural international exchanges of different civilizations and promoting the enhancement of regional comprehensive strength. This article starts from the comparative study of the Brazilian Carnival and the Macau Latin Parade (later renamed the Macau International Parade), by studying the economic, political, geographical, and cultural perspectives behind it, and with the support of the all-for-one tourism theory, explores the international ways and inspirations for the sustainable development of cultural tourism festivals.
