Abstract:• All patients with symptomatic paraesophageal hernias should undergo elective operation. • Achieving 3 cm of esophageal length and performance of a fundoplication are crucial to repair. • Symptoms rather than radiographic findings should serve as the mainstay for assessing recurrence.
