Abstract:Background and aims – The species name Gymnosporia filiformis , validly published in a 1927 revision of South African Celastraceae, was based on syntypes representing both Maytenus cordata and a new species. Subsequent studies supported the distinction of Gymnosporia and Maytenus as separate genera. From 1984, this new species was provisionally referred to by the designation “ Maytenus sp. A”. Maytenus in Africa comprises a diverse group of species not closely related to the New World members of Maytenus . Here, we clarify the taxonomic identity and generic placement of G. filiformis , and compare it with species with which it has historically been confused. Material and methods – Descriptions and observations are based on extensive field work, supported by conventional taxonomic methods, including study of relevant literature and herbarium collections. Key results – The name Gymnosporia filiformis is lectotypified using a syntype representing “ Maytenus sp. A”. We describe a new monotypic genus, Marijordaania , to accommodate “ Maytenus sp. A”, and propose the new combination, Marijordaania filiformis . An amended description is provided for the species. It is morphologically quite different from Maytenus cordata , but also from Maytenus acuminata and Maytenus abbottii , species with which it has been confused in the past. Marijordaania filiformis grows in the understorey of evergreen Scarp Forest and is relatively rare, known with certainty only from KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape provinces, South Africa. A preliminary conservation assessment suggests that M. filiformis should be classified as Endangered. Conclusion – Marijordaania filiformis is a taxonomically isolated species with no apparent close relatives among African Celastraceae. While the generic status of other African members of Maytenus still needs to be resolved, it would not impact the taxonomic status of Marijordaania . In a recent key for Celastraceae genera based on morphology and geography, M. filiformis ran to the genus Euonymus , but this association lacks support from available molecular evidence.

Abstract:Recent fieldwork in the Chinese province of Zhejiang revealed new insights into the taxonomy of the genus Carex in this area. Carex honglinii, a new species of Carex sect. Confertiflorae, is described. It differs from C. pseudodispalata in having perigynia broadly obovoid, contracted into a ca. 0.5‒0.7 mm long beak at the apex, and staminate scales acuminate. Carex nemostachys var. subglabra (sect. Confertiflorae) is raised to specific rank and combined as C. subglabra. Eventually, a new subspecies of Carex scopulus (subsp. aristata; sect. Mitratae) is described. This new subspecies differs from the type subspecies in having pistillate scales with a 1‒4 mm long apical scabrous awn, and leaves 1.5‒2.5 wide.

Abstract:Four new species of Mapania Aubl. from montane habitats in Guyana are described. A new combination at new rank, Scleria subeggersiana (Kük.) Abstract:A replacement name Ardisia lallaniana R.Kr. Singh is here proposed for the illegitimate A. montana King & Gamble, being a later homonym of A. montana C.F. Gaertn. Also, the name A. zeylanica C.B. Clarke is a later homonym of A. zeylanica (Gaertn.) Lam. ex Forsyth f. and for the former, Tinus clarkeana Kuntze is the only available legitimate name. Therefore, Ardisia clarkeana (Kuntze) R.Kr. Singh comb. nova is here proposed for the illegitimate A. zeylanica C.B. Clarke. Lectotypes are designated here for Anguillaria zeylanica Gaertn., Ardisia amplexicaulis Bedd., A. moonii C.B. Clarke, A. pauciflora B. Abstract:Section Radicales (Kük.) Nelmes comprises nearly 15 species in Carex subg. Carex (Cyperaceae) and is mainly distributed in the Pan-Himalaya region, with a few species extending to the Guangxi and Hainan provinces of China and Burma. A taxonomic revision of sect. Radicales in China is proposed and 12 species with two varieties are recognized. Carex pseudomitrata X. F. Jin & Cen is described as a new species and C. caudispicata var. longiutriculata X. F. Jin is described as a new variety. Carex anningensis is reduced to synonym of C. caudispicata, and C. chuiana to C. radicalis. Carex funhuangshanica and C. speciosa subsp. dilatata are respectively reduced to synonyms of C. speciosa and C. speciosa var. courtallensis.

Abstract:Commelinabadamica var. palkondensis P. Sivaramakrishna, P. Yugandhar and L.J. Singh, var. nov. (Commelinaceae), a remarkable new variety from Palkonda hills of Eastern Ghats of Peninsular Indiais described and illustrated. It is apparently similar to C. badamica var. badamica in habitat ecology and general morphology, but differs in features like presence of a 2–3‐nerved ligule, lower cincinnus with single bisexual flower, glabrous ovary, elliptic anthers and ovoid‐oblong or trapezoidal seeds. In addition to the description, habitat ecology, details on population distribution and the conservation status are also provided for the new variety.

Abstract:A new lycophyte species, Selaginella longistrobilina P. S. Wang, X. Y. Wang & Li Bing Zhang (Selaginellaceae), is described and illustrated from limestone hills in central Guizhou, China. Selaginella longistrobilina is most similar to S. prostrata H. S. Kung in the shape of the microphylls and in the arrangement, shape, and size of the sporophylls. However, the new species has longer strobili to 2.5 cm, and the sporophylls are often navicular adaxially, while S. prostrata has strobili only 3-4 mm, and the sporophylls are flattened adaxially. Selaginella longistrobilina is only known from central Guizhou, while S. prostrata is more widely distributed from Hunan, Sichuan to Yunnan in China. A new combination, S. prostrata (H. S. Kung) Li Bing Zhang, based on Lycopodioides prostrata H. S. Kung, is made and lectotypified herein.

Abstract:This paper presents a taxonomic account of the Cyperus species which used to be placed in the segregate genus Pycreus (hereafter: Pycreus species) within the Pan-Himalaya, based on morphological and micromorphological studies. Twelve Pycreus species have been identified in the Pan-Himalaya region. Taxonomic keys, descriptions, type information, ecology, and distribution notes are provided for each species. The taxonomic significance of nutlet micromorphology is discussed, supported by high-quality digital images and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations. Cyperus diaphanus var. gracilescens and Pycreus pseudolatespicatus are synonymized with C. diaphanus. A new combination is proposed for P. lijiangensis, and lectotypes are designated for C. angulatus, C. diaphanus, C. substramineus, C. sulcinux, C. delavayi and P. lijiangensis. Additionally, C. africanus is reported for the first time outside Africa.

Abstract:Species of the arboreal leafhopper subfamily Eurymelinae formerly included in Idiocerinae (i.e., excluding Macropsini) from the Indian subcontinent are reviewed. Three tribes, Balocerini, Idiocerini and Megipocerini are represented in the subcontinent. The tribes, genera and species are diagnosed and the species are illustrated with an emphasis on the female genitalia. The species in the genus Idioscopus are revised and assigned to new genera. Species groups are recognized in the genus Idioscopus sensu stricto based on forewing venation, head sculpturing and male genitalia. The following new taxa are described and illustrated: Balocha fuscolinea sp. nov. (India: Karnataka), Bellacerus gen. nov. (type species: Idioscopus bellus Viraktamath), Busonia distanti sp. nov. (Nepal; India: Meghalaya), B. manipurensis sp. nov. (India: Manipur), Jogina gen. nov. (type species: Idioscopus robustipennis Viraktamth), Keralus gen. nov. (type species: Idioscopus webbi Viraktamath), Matangia gen. nov. (type species: Idioscopus capriliana Viraktamath & Murphy), M. kodaiensis sp. nov. (India: Tamil Nadu), Metidiocerus gnezdilovi sp. nov. (India: Jammu & Kashmir) , Ulavius gen. nov. (type species: Idioscopus anasuyae Viraktamath & Viraktamath), U. parvathiae sp. nov. (India: Karnataka), U. poornachandrai sp. nov. (India: Karnataka) and U. radhamaniae sp. nov. (India: Karnataka). The genus Metidocerus Ossiannilsson is recorded for the first time from the subcontinent. Busonia amentata Distant is redescribed based on one male paratype from Myitta (Myanmar) and it is shown that the specimen identified as this species by Maldonado-Capriles (1977) is in error. Idiocerus quinquepunctatus Melichar 1903 earlier considered as a junior synonym of I. atkinsoni Lethierry 1889, is resurrected from synonymy and Amritodus brevistylus Viraktamath 1976 syn. nov. is treated as a junior synonym of I. quinquepunctatus. Idioscopus scutellatus (Distant 1908) syn. nov. is considered as a junior synonym of I. clypealis (Lethierry 1898). Balocha anufrievi Kameswara Rao & Ramakrishnan 1979 s yn. nov., B. bifurcata Kamswara Rao, Ramakrishanan & Ghai 1979 s yn. nov. and B. maldonadoi Kamswara Rao & Ramakrishan 1979 s yn. nov. are treated as junior synonms of the wide-spread B. astuta (Melichar 1903) described from Sri Lanka. The following new combinations are proposed: Amritodus quinquepunctataus (Melichar) comb. nov. , Bellacerus bellus (Viraktamath) comb. nov. , Jogina robustipennis (Viraktamath) comb. nov. , Keralus webbi (Viraktamath) comb. nov., Matangia capriliana (Viraktamath & Murphy) comb. nov., M. indica (Viraktamath) comb. nov., M. thapai (Viraktamath & Hongsaprug) comb. nov. , Metidiocerus deodarae (Viraktamath & Sohi) comb. nov., Ulavius anasuyae (Viraktamath & Viraktamath) comb. nov. U. decoratus (Viraktamath) comb. nov. , U. dworakowskae (Viraktamath) comb. nov. , U. jayashriae (Viraktamath & Viraktamath) comb. nov. and U. spectabilis (Viraktamath) comb. nov. These species were placed earlier in the genus Idioscopus except Metidiocerus deodarae which was in the genus Idiocerus . Keys to subtribes, genera and species under each genus are also given. Busonia manipurensis sp. nov. and Busoniomimus manjunathi are actively attended by ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae).

Abstract:Cynanchum pingtaoi S.Jin Zeng, G.D.Tang & Miao Liao, sp. nov. ( Apocynaceae ) from Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular evidence. Its deeply cordate to reniform leaves and campanulate, large flowers show that it is a member of former Raphistemma Wall., which has been included in Cynanchum L.. It is different from all former Raphistemma species by the broadly ovate corolla lobes, purple-red corolla and connivent corona tip slightly exceeding the corolla throat. Meanwhile, Cynanchum longhushanense G.D.Tang & Miao Liao, nom. nov. is proposed as replacement name for Raphistemma brevipedunculatum Y.Wan, which was considered a synonym of Cynanchum hooperianum (Blume) Liede & Khanum but is here reinstated as a distinct species because of significant morphological differences.

The name Tricholoma multiforme has been incorrectly attributed to Romell as a new species. It is not synonymous with L. polygonarum. The nomenclature of Agaricus multiformis Schaeff. and Cortinarius multiformis Fr. is clarified. Mycena lammiensis Harmaja (Mycenaceae) is transferred to Prunulus Murrill , a segregate genus comprising species around M pura (Pers. : Fr.) Kumm. , as Prunulus lammiensis (Harmaja) Harmaja.
