Abstract:The incidence of thyroid cancer diagnosis has increased 169% over the last 3 decades. A literature review discovered conflicting recommendations, and scant discussion was found about routine thyroid examination during patient visits. The United States Preventive Services Taskforce recommends against screening asymptomatic patients given that thyroid cancer affects a small portion of the population and mortality has not changed over time. The World Health Organization has been supportive of screening and early diagnosis. This case report demonstrates the importance of nurse practitioners including neck palpation as a standard part of routine examinations and a crucial step toward improving patient outcomes. Early detection of thyroid cancer, enabling timely intervention and treatment, can lead to fewer complications and improved overall quality of life for patients.
