Abstract:We prove a precise version of a general conjecture on the polar degree stated by June Huh. We confirm Huh's conjectural list of all projective hypersurfaces with isolated singularities and polar degree equal to 2.

Abstract:We establish a nonexistence theorem for stable currents (or stable varifolds) in complete delta-pinched hypersurfaces of a real space form with non-negative constant sectional curvature. This is a partial positive answer to the well-known conjecture of Lawson and Simons.

Abstract:Given a polarized variety $(X,L)$ we use an elementary observation to produce projections of low degree $ X\subset \mathbb{P}(H^0(L^\vee)) \dashrightarrow \mathbb P ^r $ via vector bundles. For surfaces this observation can be used to show that maps of the degree at most $d$ move in families. In the case of polarized $K3$ surfaces we study projections of the lowest possible degree up to genus $6$ and we give a new upper bound for higher genera. As a different application of our construction we exhibit new rational maps of low degree for some hyper-Kähler varieties, abelian varieties and Gushel-Mukai threefolds.

Abstract:We describe a general (primitively) polarized K3 surface $(S,h)$ with $(h^2)=24$ as a complete intersection variety with respect to vector bundles on the $6$-dimensional moduli space $\mathcal{N}^-$ of the stable vector bundles of rank two with fixed odd determinant on a curve $C$ of genus $3$. If the curve $C$ is hyperelliptic, then $\mathcal{N}^-$ is a subvariety of the $12$-dimensional Grassmann variety $\operatorname{Gr}(\mathbf{C}^8,2)$ defined by a pencil of quadric forms. In this case, our description implies that a general $(S,h)$ is the intersection of two (7-dimensional) contact homogeneous varieties of $\operatorname{Spin}(7)$ in the Grassmann variety $\operatorname{Gr}(\mathbf{C}^8,2)$.

Polarized superspecial simple abelian surfaces with real Weil numbers

Abstract:Let $q$ be an odd power of a prime $p\in \mathbb{N}$, and $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$ be the finite set of isomorphism classes of principally polarized superspecial abelian surfaces in the simple isogeny class over $\mathbb{F}_q$ corresponding to the real Weil $q$-numbers $\pm \sqrt{q}$. We produce explicit formulas for $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$ of the following kinds: (i) the class number formula, i.e.~the cardinality of $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$; (ii) the type number formula, i.e. the number of endomorphism rings up to isomorphism of the underlying abelian surfaces of $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$. Similar formulas are obtained for other collections of polarized superspecial members of this isogeny class grouped together according to their polarization modules. We observe several surprising identities involving the arithmetic genus of certain Hilbert modular surface on one side and the class number or type number of $(P, P_+)$-polarized superspecial abelian surfaces in this isogeny class on the other side.

Abstract:We study algebraic points of bounded degree on polarized projective varieties. To do so, we refine further the filtration construction and Subspace Theorem approach, for the study of integral points, which has origins in the work of Corvaja-Zannier, Levin, Evertse and Autissier. Our main result shows how a conjecture of H.~P.~Schlickewei implies Second Main Arithmetic Schmidt's Subspace type inequalities for polarized projective varieties and points of bounded degree.

Abstract:We apply Angehrn-Siu-Helmke's method to estimate basepoint freeness thresholds of higher dimensional polarized abelian varieties. We showed that a conjecture of Caucci holds for very general polarized abelian varieties in the moduli spaces $\mathcal A_{g, l}$ with only finitely many possible exceptions of polarization types $l$ in each dimension $g$. We improved the bound of basepoint freeness thresholds of any polarized ableian $4$-folds and simple abelian $5$-folds.

On the failure of the integral Hodge/Tate conjecture for products with projective hypersurfaces

Abstract:In this paper we show the failure of the integral Hodge/Tate conjecture for the product of an Enriques surface with a smooth odd-dimensional projective hypersurface. To do this, we use a specialization argument of Colliot-Thélène applied to Schreieder's refined unramified cohomology. The results obtained in this way give an interpretation of Shen's result in terms of refined unramified cohomology. Moreover, using this interpretation, we avoid the need to work over the complex numbers so that we may conclude that Shen's result also holds over general algebraically closed fields of characteristic not 2.

Abstract:We partially resolve conjectures of Deligne and Simpson concerning $\mathbb Z$-local systems on quasi-projective varieties that underlie a polarized variation of Hodge structure. For local systems of "compact type", we prove (1) a relative form of Deligne's finiteness theorem, for any family of quasi-projective varieties, and (2) algebraicity of the corresponding non-abelian Hodge locus.

Abstract:We prove by induction on dimension the Hodge conjecture for smooth complex projective varieties. Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective variety. Then $X$ is birational to a possibly singular projective hypersurface, hence to a smooth projective variety $E_0$ which is a component of a normal crossing divisor $E=\cup_{i=0}^rE_i\subset Y$ which is the singular fiber of a pencil $f:Y\to\mathbb A^1$ of smooth projective hypersurfaces. Using the smooth hypersurface case by a previous result of the autor, the nearby cycle functor on mixed Hodge module with rational de Rham factor, and the induction hypothesis, we prove that an Hodge class of $E_0$ is absolute Hodge, more precisely the locus of Hodge classes inside the algebraic vector bundle given the De Rham cohomology the rational deformation of $E_0$ is defined over $\mathbb Q$. By another previous result of the autor, we get the Hodge conjecture for $E_0$. By the induction hypothesis we also have the Hodge conjecture for $X$.

Abstract:Given a general polarized $K3$ surface $S\subset \mathbb P^g$ of genus $g\le 14$, we study projections $S\hookrightarrow \mathbb P^g\dashrightarrow \mathbb P^2$ of minimal degree and their variational structure. In particular, we prove that the degree of irrationality of all such surfaces is at most $4$, and that for $g=7,8,9,11$ there are no rational maps $S\dashrightarrow \mathbb P^2$ of degree $3$ induced by the primitive linear system. Our methods combine vector bundle techniques à la Lazarsfeld with derived category tools, and also make use of the rich theory of singular curves on $K3$ surfaces.

We prove that is homeomorphic to the Hilbert cube and the polar mapping is topologically conjugate with the standard based-free involution σ : Q → Q , defined by σ ( x ) = − x for all x ∈ Q . We also prove that among the inclusion-reversing involutions on (also called dualities), those and only those with a unique fixed point are topologically conjugate with the polar mapping, and they can be characterized as all the maps of the form f ( A ) = T ( A °), with T a positive-definite linear isomorphism of R n .

Abstract:Using obstruction bundles, composition law and the localization formula, we compute certain 3-point genus-0 Gromov-Witten invariants of the Hilbert scheme of 3-points on the complex projective plane.
