Abstract:The goal of this note is to study a conjectural picture on lower bounds of Seshadri constants of indecomposable polarized abelian varieties. This is inspired by some ideas of Debarre on the subject and the author's previous work on syzygies of abelian threefolds using the convex geometry of Newton-Okounkov bodies.

Abstract:In this paper we first study the moduli spaces related to Calabi-Yau manifolds. We then apply the results to the following problem. Let $C$ be a fixed Riemann surface with fixed finite number of points on it. Given a CY manifold with fixed topological type, we consider the set of all families of CY manifolds of the fixed topological type over $C$ with degenerate fibres over the fixed points up to isomorphism. This set is called Shafarevich set. The analogue of Shafarevich conjecture for CY manifolds is for which topological types of CY the Shafarevich set is finite. It is well-known that the analogue of Shafarevich conjecture is closely related to the study of the moduli space of polarized CY manifolds and the moduli space of the maps of fixed Riemann surface to the coarse moduli space of the CY manifolds. We prove the existence of the Teichmüller space of CY manifolds together with a universal family of marked CY manifolds. From this result we derive the existence of a finite cover of the coarse moduli space which is a non-singular quasi-projective manifold. Over this cover we construct a family of polarized CY manifolds. We study the moduli space of maps of the fixed Riemann with fixed points on it to the moduli space of CY manifolds constructed in the paper such that the maps map the fixed points on the Riemann surface to the discriminant locus. If this moduli space of maps is finite then Shafarevich conjecture holds. We relate the analogue of Shafarevich problem to the non-vanishing of the Yukawa coupling. We give also a counter example of the Shafarevich problem for a class of CY manifolds.
On Seshadri constants and point-curve configurations

Abstract:In the note we study the multipoint Seshadri constants of $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{2}_{\mathbb{C}}}(1)$ centered at singular loci of certain curve arrangements in the complex projective plane. Our first aim is to show that the values of Seshadri constants can be approximated with use of a combinatorial invariant which we call the configurational Seshadri constant. We study specific examples of point-curve configurations for which we provide actual values of the associated Seshadri constants. In particular, we provide an example based on Hesse point-conic configuration for which the associated Seshadri constant is computed by a line. This shows that multipoint Seshadri constants are not purely combinatorial.

Abstract:Based on the work of Okounkov, Kaveh-Khovanskii and Lazarsfeld-Mustata independently associated a convex body, called the Okounkov body, to a big divisor on a normal projective variety with respect to an admissible flag. Although the Okounkov bodies carry rich positivity data of big divisors, they only provide information near a single point. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a convex body of a big divisor that is effective in handling the positivity theory associated with multi-point settings. These convex bodies open the door to approach the local positivity theory at multiple points from a convex-geometric perspective. We study their properties and shapes, and describe local positivity data via them. Finally, we observe the irrationality of Seshadri constants with the help of a relation between Nakayama constants and Seshadri constants.

Abstract:We will give optimal bounds for Seshadri constants of an ample line bundle at multiple points on a complex projective surface X. We also present a solution to the long-studied classical problem on the existence of curves on X with given topological singularities at r arbitrary points p 1,...,p r . Namely, we obtain a universal lower bound on the degree of curves for the existence. It is independent of the position of the singular points.

We show that if $X$ is a projective variety of dimension $d$ with $\epsilon$-lc singularities for $\epsilon>0$, and if $N$ is a nef and big Weil divisor on $X$ such that $N-K_X$ is pseudo-effective, then the linear system $|mN|$ defines a birational map for some natural number $m$ depending only on $d,\epsilon$. This is key to proving various other results. For example, it implies that if $N$ is a big Weil divisor (not necessarily nef) on a klt Calabi-Yau variety of dimension $d$, then the linear system $|mN|$ defines a birational map for some natural number $m$ depending only on $d$. It also gives new proofs of some known results, for example, if $X$ is an $\epsilon$-lc Fano variety of dimension $d$ then taking $N=-K_X$ we recover birationality of $|-mK_X|$ for bounded $m$. We prove similar birational boundedness results for nef and big Weil divisors $N$ on projective klt varieties $X$ when both $K_X$ and $N-K_X$ are pseudo-effective (here $X$ is not assumed $\epsilon$-lc). Using the above we show boundedness of polarised varieties under some natural conditions. We extend these to boundedness of semi-log canonical Calabi-Yau pairs polarised by effective ample Weil divisors not containing lc centres. Combining this with the moduli theory of stable pairs we show that polarised Calabi-Yau pairs and polarised Fano pairs admit projective coarse moduli spaces.

Abstract:Motivated by Lang-Vojta's conjectures on hyperbolic varieties, we prove a new version of the Shafarevich conjecture in which we establish the finiteness of pointed families of polarized varieties. We then give an arithmetic application to the finiteness of integral points on moduli spaces of polarized varieties.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex nonsingular projective surface and let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. We study multi-point Seshadri constants of $L$ at singular points of certain arrangements of curves on $X$. We pose some questions about such Seshadri constants and prove some results in the case of star arrangements of curves. We also study the configurational Seshadri constants for curve arrangements on surfaces and compare them with the usual Seshadri constants. We give several examples illustrating the properties that we study.

Abstract:Given a perverse sheaf on the moduli stack of principally polarized abelian varieties or the moduli stack of smooth curves with n marked points over a field of characteristic zero, we prove that the (orbifold) Euler characteristic is nonnegative. For constant coefficients, this follows immediately from formulas of Harer-Zagier and Harder. Our proof is different and in the case of abelian varieties uses log Dubson-Kashiwara plus the fact that Hodge bundles are nef. For curves, we require an additional inequality established using Beilinson's gluing construction. The first main result is shown to be false in positive characteristic.

Abstract:We study torus-equivariant vector bundles $E$ on a complex projective variety $X$ which is either a Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety or a wonderful compactification of a complex symmetric variety of minimal rank. We show that $E$ is nef (respectively, ample) if and only if its restriction to every torus--invariant curve in $X$ is nef (respectively, ample). We also compute the Seshadri constants $\varepsilon(E,x)$, where $x\, \in\, X$ is any point fixed by the action of a maximal torus.

Abstract:We study the Seshadri constants on geometrically ruled surfaces. The unstable case is completely solved. Moreover, we give some bounds for the stable case. We apply these results to compute the Seshadri constant of the rational and elliptic ruled surfaces. Both cases are completely determined. The elliptic case provides an interesting picture of how particular is the behavior of the Seshadri constants.

Abstract:Faltings proved that there are finitely many abelian varieties of genus $g$ over a number field $K$, with good reduction outside a finite set of primes $S$. Fixing one of these abelian varieties $A$, we prove that there are finitely many smooth hypersurfaces in $A$, with good reduction outside $S$, representing a given ample class in the Néron-Severi group of $A$, up to translation, as long as the dimension of $A$ is at least $4$. Our approach builds on the approach of arXiv:1807.02721 which studies $p$-adic variations of Hodge structure to turn finiteness results for $p$-adic Galois representations into geometric finiteness statements. A key new ingredient is an approach to proving big monodromy for the variations of Hodge structure arising from the middle cohomology of these hypersurfaces using the Tannakian theory of sheaf convolution on abelian varieties.

Abstract:We study the classification problem for polarized varieties with high nef value. We give a complete list of isomorphism classes for normal polarized varieties with high nef value. This generalizes classical work on the smooth case by Fujita, Beltrametti and Sommese. As a consequence we obtain that polarized varieties with slc singularities and high nef value are birationally equivalent to projective bundles over nodal curves.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety, and let $E_{\ast}$ be a parabolic vector bundle on $X$. We introduce the notion of \textit{parabolic Seshadri constants} of $E_{\ast}$. It is shown that these constants are analogous to the classical Seshadri constants of vector bundles, in particular, they have parallel definitions and properties. We prove a Seshadri criterion for parabolic ampleness of $E_{\ast}$ in terms of parabolic Seshadri constants. We also compute parabolic Seshadri constants for symmetric powers and tensor products of parabolic vector bundles.

Abstract:Recent developments on the uniformity of the number of rational points on curves and subvarieties in a moving abelian variety rely on the geometric concept of the degeneracy locus. The first-named author investigated the degeneracy locus in certain mixed Shimura varieties. In this expository note we revisit some of these results while minimizing the use of mixed Shimura varieties while working in a family of principally polarized abelian varieties. We also explain their relevance for applications in diophantine geometry.

Abstract:The Shafarevich conjecture for a class of varieties over a number field posits the finitude of those with good reduction outside a finite set of primes. In the case of hypersurfaces in the torus $\mathbb{G}_m^n$, a natural class to consider are those with a fixed Newton polyhedron that are nondegenerate with respect to it. Using an approach similar to that of Lawrence-Sawin for abelian varieties (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2004.09046" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2004.09046">arXiv:2004.09046</a>), we prove the Shafarevich conjecture for certain classes of Newton polyhedra. In the course of our proof we construct a fiber functor for the Tannakian category of perverse sheaves on the torus in positive characteristic and compute the weights of the Frobenius on it, which leads to the big monodromy results which are key to this method.

Abstract:We describe the moduli spaces of morphisms between polarized complex abelian varieties. The discrete invariants, derived from a Poincare' decomposition of morphisms, are the types of polarizations and of lattice homomorphisms occurring in the decomposition. For a given type of morphisms the moduli variety is irreducible, and is obtained from a product of Siegel spaces modulo the action of a discrete group.

Abstract:Seshadri constants, introduced by Demailly, measure the local positivity of a nef divisor at a point. In this paper, we compute the Seshadri constants of the anticanonical divisors of Fano manifolds with coindex at most $3$ at a very general point. As a consequence, if $X$ is a nonsingular Fano threefold which is very general in its deformation family, then $\varepsilon(X,-K_X;x)\leq 1$ for all points $x\in X$ if and only if $\vert-K_X\vert$ is not base point free.
