Abstract:We give a survey of various compactness and non-compactness results for the Yamabe equation. We also discuss a conjecture of Hamilton concerning the asymptotic behavior of the parabolic Yamabe flow.

Abstract:Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n > 2. The k-curvature, for k = 1,2,...,n, is defined as the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the eigenvalues of the Schouten tenser. The k-Yamabe problem is to prove the existence of a conformal metric whose k-curvature is a constant. When k = 1, it reduces to the well-known Yamabe problem. Under the assumption that the metric is admissible, the existence of solutions is known for the case k = 2, n = 4, for locally conformally flat manifolds and for the cases k > n/2. In this paper we prove the solvability of the k-Yamabe problem in the remaining cases k ≤ n/2, under the hypothesis that the problem is variational. This includes all of the cases k = 2 as well as the locally conformally flat case.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the solitons to the fully nonlinear type Yamabe flows. We prove that any k-Yamabe soliton with positive k-curvature must have constant σk-curvature on closed locally conformally flat manifolds. We also prove that any quotient Yamabe soliton with positive k and l curvatures must have constantσkσl-curvature on closed locally conformally flat manifolds. Similar results are also proved on compact locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

It was initially proposed by Viaclovsky [72] and also arose in the study of Q-curvatures in [11]. Abstract:In this paper, we study the CR (Cauchy-Riemann) Yamabe flow with zero CR Yamabe invariant. We use the CR Poincaré inequality and a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type interpolation inequality to show that this flow has the long time solution and the solution converges to a contact form with flat pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature exponentially.

Abstract:This paper considers the k-Yamabe problem on manifolds with boundary.We investigate the problem under the assumption that the k-Yamabe equation has a variational structure instead of that the manifold is locally conformally fiat,where 2 ≤ k ＜ n/2,n is the dimension of the manifold.In particular,we show that the 2-Yamabe problem is solvable on the manifold of dimension n ＞ 4 with umbilic boundary if its Yamabe constant is smaller than that of the standard half unit sphere and the mean curvature of the boundary is nonnegative.

Abstract:We consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric by a fully nonlinear flow on a compact manifold with totally geodesic boundary. We prove that the k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor always can be deformed in a natural way to a constant at exponential rate and the boundary preserves totally geodesic.

A Local Method for Compact and Non-compact Yamabe Problems

Abstract:Let $ (M, g) $ be a compact manifold or a complete non-compact manifold without boundary, $ \dim M \geqslant 4 $, and not locally conformally flat. In this article, we introduce a new local method to resolve the Yamabe problem on compact manifold for dimensions at least $ 4 $, and the Yamabe problem on non-compact complete manifolds without boundary, which are pointwise conformal to subsets of some compact manifolds. In particular, the new local method applies to the hard cases--the Yamabe constants are positive. Our local method also generalizes Brezis and Nirenberg's nonlinear eigenvalue problem to subsets of manifolds.

Asymptotic approach to singular solutions for the CR Yamabe equation

Abstract:We investigate some effects of the lack of compactness in the critical Sobolev embedding by proving that a famous conjecture of Brezis and Peletier \cite{BP89} does still hold in the Heisenberg framework: optimal functions for a natural subcritical approximations of the Sobolev quotient concentrate energy at exactly one point which is a critical point of the Robin function (i. e., the diagonal of the regular part of the Green function associated to the involved domain), in clear accordance with the underlying sub-Riemannian geometry. Consequently, a new suitable definition of domains geometrical regular near their characteristic set is introduced. In order to achieve the aforementioned result, we need to combine proper estimates and tools to attack the related CR Yamabe equation with novel feasible ingredients in PDEs and Calculus of Variations which also aim to constitute general independent results in the Heisenberg framework, as for instance a fine asymptotic control of the optimal functions via the Jerison and Lee extremals realizing the equality in the critical Sobolev inequality \cite{JL88}.

Abstract:Assume that $(X, g^+)$ is an asymptotically hyperbolic manifold, $(M, [\bar{h}])$ is its conformal infinity, $\rho$ is the geodesic boundary defining function associated to $\bar{h}$ and $\bar{g} = \rho^2 g^+$. For any $\gamma \in (0,1)$, we prove that the solution set of the $\gamma$-Yamabe problem on $M$ is compact in $C^2(M)$ provided that convergence of the scalar curvature $R[g^+]$ of $(X, g^+)$ to $-n(n+1)$ is sufficiently fast as $\rho$ tends to 0 and the second fundamental form on $M$ never vanishes. Since most of the arguments in blow-up analysis performed here is irrelevant to the geometric assumption imposed on $X$, our proof also provides a general scheme toward other possible compactness theorems for the fractional Yamabe problem.

Abstract:We obtain existence results for a class of fully nonlinear Yamabe-type problems on non-compact manifolds, addressing both the so-called positive and negative cases. We also give explicit examples of manifolds with warped product ends and asymptotically flat ends satisfying the hypotheses of our theorems.

Abstract:We consider the broadest concept of the gradient Yamabe soliton, the conformal gradient soliton. In this paper, we elucidate the structure of complete gradient conformal solitons under some assumption, and provide some applications to gradient Yamabe solitons. These results enhance the understanding gained from previous research. Furthermore, we give an affirmative partial answer to the Yamabe soliton version of Perelman's conjecture.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to study the conformal geometry of complete quasi Yamabe gradient solitons, which correspond to an interesting generalization for gradient Yamabe solitons. In this sense, we present a rigidity result for complete quasi Yamabe gradient solitons with constant scalar curvature. Moreover, we prove that quasi Yamabe gradient solitons can be conformally changed to constant scalar curvature.

Abstract:We prove a convergence theorem on the moduli space of constant $\sigma_{2}$ metrics for conic 4-spheres. We show that when a numerical condition is convergent to the boundary case, the geometry of conic 4-spheres converges to the boundary case while preserving capacity.

Abstract:We start by taking the analytical approach to discuss how the minimizer of Yamabe functional provides constant scalar curvature and its relationship with the Sobolev Space $W^{1,2}.$ Then, after demonstrating the importance of the sphere $S^n$, with stereographic projection and dilation, we show that the minimizer of Yamabe functional on standard sphere is obtained from a standard round metric $\bar{g}$ by a conformal diffeomorphism, thus giving us the constraint $\lambda (M) < \lambda(S^n),$ which leads us to the final theorem that the Yamabe problem is solvable when $\lambda(M) < \lambda(S^n).$ For the proof of this theorem, we adopt the approach of Concentration-Compactness.

Abstract:Let G=(V,E) be a locally finite graph, Ω⊂V be a bounded domain, Δ be the usual graph Laplacian, and λ1(Ω) be the first eigenvalue of −Δ with respect to Dirichlet boundary condition. Using the mountain pass theorem due to Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz, we prove that if α<λ1(Ω), then for any p>2, there exists a positive solution to{−Δu−αu=|u|p−2uinΩ∘,u=0on∂Ω, where Ω∘ and ∂Ω denote the interior and the boundary of Ω respectively. Also we consider similar problems involving the p-Laplacian and poly-Laplacian by the same method. Such problems can be viewed as discrete versions of the Yamabe type equations on Euclidean space or compact Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:Let $(M,\textit{g},\sigma)$ be an $m$-dimensional closed spin manifold, with a fixed Riemannian metric $\textit{g}$ and a fixed spin structure $\sigma$; let $\mathbb{S}(M)$ be the spinor bundle over $M$. The spinorial Yamabe-type problems address the solvability of the following equation \[ D_{\textit{g}}\psi = f(x)|\psi|_{\textit{g}}^{\frac2{m-1}}\psi, \quad \psi:M\to\mathbb{S}(M), \ x\in M \] where $D_{\textit{g}}$ is the associated Dirac operator and $f:M\to\mathbb{R}$ is a given function. The study of such nonlinear equation is motivated by its important applications in Spin Geometry: when $m=2$, a solution corresponds to a conformal isometric immersion of the universal covering $\widetilde M$ into $\mathbb{R}^3$ with prescribed mean curvature $f$; meanwhile, for general dimensions and $f\equiv constant\neq0$, a solution provides an upper bound estimate for the Bär-Hijazi-Lott invariant. The aim of this paper is to establish non-compactness results related to the spinorial Yamabe-type problems. Precisely, concrete analysis is made for two specific models on the manifold $(S^m,\textit{g})$ where the solution set of the spinorial Yamabe-type problem is not compact: $1).$ the geometric potential $f$ is constant (say $f\equiv1$) with the background metric $\textit{g}$ being a $C^k$ perturbation of the canonical round metric $\textit{g}_{S^m}$, which is not conformally flat somewhere on $S^m$; $2).$ $f$ is a perturbation from constant and is of class $C^2$, while the background metric $\textit{g}\equiv\textit{g}_{S^m}$.

Abstract:We study asymptotic behaviors of positive solutions to the Yamabe equation and the sigma(k)-Yamabe equation near isolated singular points and establish expansions up to arbitrary orders. Such results generalize an earlier pioneering work by Caffarelli, Gidas, and Spruck and a work by Korevaar, Mazzeo, Pacard, and Schoen on the Yamabe equation and a work by Han, Li, and Teixeira on the sigma(k)-Yamabe equation. The study is based on a combination of classification of global singular solutions and an analysis of linearized operators at these global singular solutions. Such linearized equations are uniformly elliptic near singular points for1 <= k <= n/2and become degenerate forn/2 < k <= n. In a significant portion of the paper, we establish a degree 1 expansion for the sigma(k)-Yamabe equation forn/2 < k < n, generalizing a similar result fork = 1by Korevaar, Mazzeo, Pacard, and Schoen and for2 <= k <= n/2by Han, Li, and Teixeira. Abstract:Let $(M,g)$ be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $n\geq 3$. Under some assumptions, we prove that there exists a positive function $\varphi$ solution of the following Yamabe type equation \Delta \varphi+ h\varphi= \tilde h \varphi^{\frac{n+2}{n-2}} where $h\in L^p(M)$, $p>n/2$ and $\tilde h\in \mathbb R$. We give the regularity of $\varphi$ with respect to the value of $p$. Finally, we consider the results in geometry when $g$ is a singular Riemannian metric and $h=\frac{n-2}{4(n-1)}R_g$, where $R_g$ is the scalar curvature of $g$.
