Abstract:We study a class of SIRS epidemic dynamical models with a general non-linear incidence rate and transfer from infectious to susceptible. The incidence rate includes a wide range of monotonic, con- cave incidence rates and some non-monotonic or concave cases. We apply LaSalle's invariance principle and Lyapunov's direct method to prove that the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if the basic reproduction number R0 lesser or equal to 1, and the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if R0 > 1, under some conditions imposed on the incidence function f(S; I).

Abstract:Epidemiological models with bilinear incidence rate usually have an asymptotically stable trivial equilibrium corresponding to the disease-free state, or an asymptotically stable nontrivial equilibrium (i.e. interior equilibrium) corresponding to the endemic state. In this paper, we consider an epidemiological model, which is a SIRS (susceptible-infected-removed-susceptible) model influenced by random perturbations. We prove that the solutions of the system are positive for all positive initial conditions and that the solutions are global, that is, there is no finite explosion time. Global stability in a competitive infection-age structured model

Abstract:We study a competitive infection-age structured SI model between two diseases. The well-posedness of the system is handled by using integrated semigroups theory, while the existence and the stability of disease-free or endemic equilibria are ensured, depending on the basic reproduction number $R_0^x$ and $R_0^y$ of each strain. We then exhibit Lyapunov functionals to analyse the global stability and we prove that the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable whenever $\max\{R_0^x, R_0^y\}\leq 1$. With respect to explicit basin of attraction, the competitive exclusion principle occurs in the case where $R_0^x\neq R_0^y$ and $\max\{R_0^x,R_0^y\}>1$, meaning that the strain with the largest $R_0$ persists and eliminates the other strain. In the limit case $R_0^x=R^0_y>1$, an infinite number of endemic equilibria exists and constitute a globally attractive set.

Abstract:We consider an epidemiological SIR model with an infection rate depending on the recovered population. We establish sufficient conditions for existence, uniqueness, and stability (local and global) of endemic equilibria and consider also the stability of the disease-free equilibrium. We show that, in contrast with classical SIR models, a system with a recovery-dependent infection rate can have multiple endemic stable equilibria (multistability) and multiple stable and unstable saddle points of equilibria. We establish conditions for the occurrence of these phenomena and illustrate the results with some examples.

Abstract:In this paper, a SIR epidemic model with nonlinear incidence rate and time delay is investigated. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of an endemic equilibrium and a disease free equilibrium is discussed. It is proved that if the basic reproductive number R0>1, the system is permanent. By comparison arguments, it is shown that if R0<1, the disease free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. If R0>1, by means of an iteration technique and Lyapunov functional technique, respectively, sufficient conditions are obtained for the global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium.

Abstract:In this paper, a delayed SIRS epidemic model with saturation incidence and temporary immunity is investigated. The immunity gained by experiencing a disease is temporary, whenever infected the diseased individuals will return to the susceptible class after a fixed period. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of an endemic equilibrium and a disease-free equilibrium is discussed. By comparison arguments, it is proved that if the basic reproduction number is less than unity, the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. If the basic reproduction number is greater than unity, by means of an iteration technique, sufficient conditions are obtained for the global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the main theoretical results.
Qualitative analysis of a class of SIRS infectious disease models with nonlinear infection rate

Abstract:The existence and local stability of some non-negative equilibrium points of a class of SIRS infectious disease models with non-linear infection and treatment rates are investigated under the condition that the total population is a constant. The qualitative theory of differential equations was used to demonstrate that the endemic equilibrium point of the system is either a stable equilibrium, an unstable equilibrium or a degenerate equilibrium under different circumstances. Subsequently, the local stability of the non-negative equilibrium point of the system is analyzed. Finally, the bifurcation theory is used to prove that the system takes the natural recovery growth rate as the parameter of the saddle-node branching, and the conditions for the existence of the model saddle-node branching are given.

Abstract:Kawasaki disease, also referred to as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome (MCLS), is an autoimmune disease. In this paper, we consider an ordinary differential equation model of Kawasaki disease pathogenesis. In this model, there exhibits forward∕backward bifurcation. By constructing suitable Lyapunov functions and using Lyapunov-LaSalle invariance principle, we establish some practical sufficient conditions for the global stability of the inflammatory factors-free equilibrium and the inflammatory factors-existent equilibrium.

Abstract:In this paper, we study an analytically tractable SIS model with a non-linear incidence rate for the number of infectious individuals described through a stochastic differential equation (SDE). We guarantee the existence of a positive solution, and we study its regularity. We study the persistence and extinction regimes, and we give sufficient conditions under which the disease-free equilibrium point is an asymptotically stable equilibrium point with probability one. We provide sufficient conditions under which the model admits a unique stationary measure. Finally, we illustrate our findings using simulations.

Abstract:This paper deals with a new epidemiological model of SIRS with stochastic perturbations. The primary objective is to establish the existence of a unique non-negative nonlocal solution. Using the basic reproduction number $\mathscr{R}_0$ derived from the associated deterministic model, we demonstrate the existence of a stationary distribution in the stochastic model. In addition, we study the fluctuation of the unique solution of the deterministic problem around the disease-free equilibrium under certain conditions. In particular, we reveal scenarios where random effects induce disease extinction, contrary to the persistence predicted by the deterministic model. The theoretical insights are complemented by numerical simulations, which provide further validation of our findings.

Abstract:We study the long-time behavior of solutions of the SIRS model, a reaction-diffusion system that appears in epidemiology to describe the spread of epidemics. We allow the system to be heterogeneous periodic. Under some hypotheses on the coefficients, we prove that the solutions converge to an equilibrium that we identify and establish some estimates on the speed of propagation.

Abstract:We study the global dynamics of a reaction-diffusion SEIR infection model with distributed delay and nonlinear incidence rate. The well-posedness of the proposed model is proved. By means of Lyapunov functionals, we show that the disease free equilibrium state is globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is less or equal than one, and that the disease endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is greater than one. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:A general SIS model with chronological age and infection age structures is formulated. We analyze the global dynamics of the model with a constructive iteration procedure. The basic reproductive number R-0 is calculated using the next generation operator approach. R-0 plays a sharp threshold role in determining the global dynamics, i.e., the endemic steady-state is globally asymptotically stable if R-0 > 1, while the disease-free steady-state is globally asymptotically stable if R-0 less than or equal to 1. The basic reproductive number is over estimated where the infection age is ignored.

Abstract:This paper studies the existence and stability of the disease-free equilibrium and endemic equilibria for the SIRS epidemic model with the saturated incidence rate, considering the factor of population dynamics such as the disease-related, the natural mortality and the constant recruitment of population. Analytical techniques are used to show, for some parameter values, the periodic solutions can arise through the Hopf bifurcation, which is important to carry different strategies for the controlling disease. Then the codimension-two bifurcation, i.e. BT bifurcation, is investigated by using a global qualitative method and the curves of saddle-node bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation and homoclinic bifurcation are obtained at the degenerate equilibrium. Moreover, several numerical simulations are given to support the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, a discretized multigroup SIR epidemic model is constructed by applying a nonstandard finite difference schemes to a class of continuous time multigroup SIR epidemic models. This discretization scheme has the same dynamics with the original differential system independent of the time step, such as positivity of the solutions and the stability of the equilibria. Discrete-time analogue of Lyapunov functions is introduced to show that the global asymptotic stability is fully determined by the basic reproduction number R-0.
A Stochastic Differential Equation SIRS Epidemic Model with Ratio-Dependent Incidence Rate

Abstract:In this paper we study global dynamics of a general SIRS epidemic model with a ratiodependent incidence rate and its corresponding stochastic differential equation version. For the deterministic model, we show that the disease reproduction number R 0 determines whether there is an endemic outbreak or not: the disease free dynamics occurs if R 0 ≤ 1 while the unique endemic steady state is globally stable if R 0 > 1. For the stochastic model, we show that its related reproduction number R S 0 can determine whether there is a unique disease-free stationary distribution or a unique endemic stationary distribution. In addition, we provide analytic results regarding the stochastic boundedness, permanence/extinction, asymptotic stability as well as its related ergodic properties. One of the most interesting findings is that random fluctuations introduced in our stochastic model can suppress disease outbreak, which can provide us some useful control strategies to regulate disease dynamics. Combining our analytical and numerical results, we conclude that different stochastic modeling approaches can have different dynamical outcomes. This provides us a caution when we derive the stochastic models from a given deterministic model.
