Abstract:This article proposes and analyzes an SIRS infectious disease model with ratio-dependent incidence rate and saturated treatment rate functions. The incorporation of a ratio-dependent incidence rate provides a more intricate depiction of disease dynamics, encompassing not just the inhibitory effect of infected individuals but also the presence of susceptible individual for potential infection. Through the analysis of the model, it is discovered that when treatment capacity is limited, the infected population may survive even if the basic reproduction number is less than one. Consequently, the model displays endemicity through the coexistence of multiple steady states, and we observe a backward bifurcation. Further, a geometric approach is applied to derive the global stability of the endemic steady state. Bi-stability, Hopf bifurcation, and saddle-node bifurcation are some examples of nonlinear dynamics that are investigated. Additionally, this study also highlights the existence of Hopf bifurcation for the basic reproduction number less than one, showcasing the rare dynamics associated with ratio-dependent incidence rate function. We give numerical examples to demonstrate and validate the outcomes of our theoretical analysis.

Abstract:This paper investigates the dynamics of the SIR infectious disease model, with a specific emphasis on utilizing a harmonic mean-type incidence rate. It thoroughly analyzes the model's equilibrium points, computes the basic reproductive rate, and evaluates the stability of the model at disease-free and endemic equilibrium states, both locally and globally. Additionally, sensitivity analysis is carried out. A sophisticated stability theory, primarily focusing on the characteristics of the Volterra–Lyapunov (V-L) matrices, is developed to examine the overall trajectory of the model globally. In addition to that, we describe the transmission of infectious disease through a mathematical model using fractal-fractional differential operators. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions in the SIR model framework with a harmonic mean-type incidence rate by using the Banach contraction approach. Functional analysis is used together with the Ulam–Hyers (UH) stability approach to perform stability analysis. We simulate the numerical results by using a computational scheme with the help of MATLAB. This study advances our knowledge of the dynamics of epidemic dissemination and facilitates the development of disease prevention and mitigation tactics.

Abstract:In this paper we study a modified SEIR model with general incidence function of the form where and are two infection categories different and the migration is constant in all compartments. The model admits neither a disease-free equilibrium point nor a basic reproduction number. Using a suitable Lyapunov function and under sufficient conditions on the functions f , g and h we show that the endemic equilibrium point is globally asymptotically stable. The considered model without migration has a disease-free equilibrium, at least one endemic equilibrium and a basic reproduction number. We show according to the values of that these equilibria are globally asymptotically stable. To illustrate the results obtained we use a non-linear incidence function given by where modeling uneducated infected individuals and modeling educated infected individuals. Next, we performed sensitivity analysis to determine how each parameter of the model may affect disease transmission. Finally, using reasonably chosen numerical data, we confirm our analytical results.

Abstract:In this paper, an SIRS epidemic model with a nonlinear incidence rate and a time delay is investigated. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of an endemic equilibrium and a disease-free equilibrium is discussed. By comparison arguments, it is proved that if the basic reproductive number R0<1, the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. If R0>1, by means of an iteration technique, sufficient conditions are derived for the global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium.

Abstract:In this article, a SIRS epidemic model with a general incidence rate is proposed and investigated. We briefly verify the global existence of a unique positive solution for the proposed system. Moreover, and unlike other works, we were able to find the stochastic threshold of the proposed model which was used for the discussion of the persistence in mean and extinction of the disease. Moreover, we utilize stochastic Lyapunov functions to show under sufficient conditions the existence and uniqueness of stationary distributions of the solution. Lastly, numerical simulation is executed to conform our analytical results.

Abstract:Epidemiological models with bilinear incidence rate usually have an asymptotically stable trivial equilibrium corresponding to the disease-free state, or an asymptotically stable nontrivial equilibrium (i.e. interior equilibrium) corresponding to the endemic state. In this paper, we consider an epidemiological model, which is a SIRS (susceptible-infected-removed-susceptible) model influenced by random perturbations. We prove that the solutions of the system are positive for all positive initial conditions and that the solutions are global, that is, there is no finite explosion time. Abstract:We study the dynamics of a SIR epidemic model with nonlinear incidence rate, vertical transmission vaccination for the newborns and the capacity of treatment, that takes into account the limitedness of the medical resources and the efficiency of the supply of available medical resources. Under some conditions we prove the existence of backward bifurcation, the stability and the direction of Hopf bifurcation. We also explore how the mechanism of backward bifurcation affects the control of the infectious disease. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the theoretical findings.

Abstract:In this paper, we study an analytically tractable SIS model with a non-linear incidence rate for the number of infectious individuals described through a stochastic differential equation (SDE). We guarantee the existence of a positive solution, and we study its regularity. We study the persistence and extinction regimes, and we give sufficient conditions under which the disease-free equilibrium point is an asymptotically stable equilibrium point with probability one. We provide sufficient conditions under which the model admits a unique stationary measure. Finally, we illustrate our findings using simulations.

Abstract:Treatment rate has always been one of the most important factors affecting the spread of infectious diseases. In this paper, we study a treatment function SIR model with treatment rate related to the maximum treatment capacity, whose infection rate is also saturated nonlinear. By calculating and analyzing based on planar dynamic system, the existence and stability of disease-free equilibrium point of the model are found. And it is also found that the situation is more complex for the endemic equilibrium point of the model. Under the conditions of meeting different parameters, the number of endemic equilibrium points may be zero, one or two, and the behavior of the endemic equilibrium point may be a saddle point, a stable or unstable anti-saddle point or center, or even a degenerate case.

Abstract:In this chapter, we consider a reaction-diffusion SVIR infection model with dis-tributed delay and nonlinear incidence rate. The wellposedness of the proposed model is proved. By means of Lyapunov functionals, we show that the disease-free equilibrium state is globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is less or equal than one, and that the disease endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is greater than one. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, an SIRI epidemic model with age of infection and the proliferation of susceptible individuals with logistic growth is investigated. By using the theory of integral semigroup and Hopf bifurcation theory for semilinear equations with non-dense domain, it is shown that if the threshold parameter is greater than unity, sufficient condition is derived for the occurrence of the Hopf bifurcation. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:We study a class of SIRS epidemic dynamical models with a general non-linear incidence rate and transfer from infectious to susceptible. The incidence rate includes a wide range of monotonic, con- cave incidence rates and some non-monotonic or concave cases. We apply LaSalle's invariance principle and Lyapunov's direct method to prove that the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if the basic reproduction number R0 lesser or equal to 1, and the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if R0 > 1, under some conditions imposed on the incidence function f(S; I).

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate an SEIR epidemic model in which recruitment is assumed to be regulated by a constant function. The SEIR model is a widely-used epidemiological framework that categorises the population into four distinct groups: Susceptible, Exposed, Infectious, and Removed. It employs a system of differential equations to describe the transitions of individuals among these groups, making it a valuable tool for understanding and modelling the dynamics of infectious diseases. Mathematical analysis is used to study the dynamic behaviour of this model. We first determine the basic reproduction number, denoted as R0 , which governs the dynamics of the SEIR model. Our findings reveal that when R0 is less than 1, the unique disease-free equilibrium is asymptotically stable, and there is no endemic equilibrium. However, when R0 exceeds 1, the disease-free equilibrium becomes unstable, and a unique, asymptotically stable endemic equilibrium emerges. Furthermore, by constructing appropriate Lyapunov functions, we have studied the global asymptotic stability of the two equilibrium points. On the other hand, we have used the backstepping method to design a control law that stabilises the SEIR model towards the disease-free equilibrium, which means the eradication of the disease from the target population. Next, we have used the same method to synchronise the SEIR drive system and the SEIR response system. This method is used to stabilise the synchronisation error dynamics arising from the mismatch between the drive and response systems. Finally, we presented numerical simulations to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the global dynamics of a general SIRS epidemic model with a ratio-dependent incidence rate and its corresponding stochastic differential equation version. For the deterministic model, we show that the basic reproduction number R-0 determines whether there is an endemic outbreak or not: if R-0 < 1, the disease dies out; while if R-0 > 1, the disease persists. For the stochastic model, we show that its related reproduction number R-0(S) can determine whether there is a unique disease-free stationary distribution or a unique endemic stationary distribution. In addition, we provide analytic results regarding the stochastic boundedness and permanence/extinction. One of the most interesting findings is that random fluctuations introduced in our stochastic model can suppress disease outbreak, which can provide us some useful control strategies to regulate disease dynamics. Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the dynamics of a reaction--diffusion SIS (susceptible-infectious-susceptible) epidemic model with a nonlinear incidence rate describing the transmission of a communicable disease between individuals. We prove that the proposed model has two steady states under one condition. By analyzing the eigenvalues and using the Routh--Hurwitz criterion and an appropriately constructed Lyapunov functional, we establish the local and global asymptotic stability of the non negative constant steady states subject to the basic reproduction number being greater than unity and of the disease--free equilibrium subject to the basic reproduction number being smaller than or equal to unity in ODE case. By applying an appropriately constructed Lyapunov functional, we identify the condition of the global stability in the PDE case. Finally, we present some numerical examples illustrating and confirming the analytical results obtained throughout the paper.

Abstract:In this paper, SIR epidemic model with Crowley-Martin type functional response and Holling type-II treatment rate is investigated. The analysis of the model shows that it has two equilibria, namely disease-free and endemic. We investigate the existence and stability results of equilibria by using LaSalle's invariant principle and Lyapunov function. R-0 has been found to ensure the extinction or persistence of the infection. Furthermore, homotopy analysis method is employed to obtain the series solution of the proposed model. By using the homotopy solutions, firstly, several h-curves are plotted to demonstrate the regions of convergence, then the residual and square residual errors are obtained for different values of these regions. Secondly, the numerical solutions are presented for various iterations and the absolute error functions are applied to show the accuracy of the applied homotopy analysis method.

Dynamical Behavior of a Stochastic Epidemiological Model: Stationary Distribution and Extinction of a SIRS Model with Stochastic Perturbations

Abstract:This paper deals with a new epidemiological model of SIRS with stochastic perturbations. The primary objective is to establish the existence of a unique non-negative nonlocal solution. Using the basic reproduction number $\mathscr{R}_0$ derived from the associated deterministic model, we demonstrate the existence of a stationary distribution in the stochastic model. In addition, we study the fluctuation of the unique solution of the deterministic problem around the disease-free equilibrium under certain conditions. In particular, we reveal scenarios where random effects induce disease extinction, contrary to the persistence predicted by the deterministic model. The theoretical insights are complemented by numerical simulations, which provide further validation of our findings.
