Abstract:Stability is the critical issue in perovskite solar cell, one possible reason of degradation come from organic transport layers which we have used. Recently, we have adopted all metal oxide layers as the charge transport layers, which has significantly improved the device stability. The improvement come from the avoid the interfacial degradation and also the reaction between perovskite and metal electrode, such as Ag and Al. We showed the device with the efficiency of 16.1% and good stability in ambient air.
Improved Air Stability of Perovskite Solar Cells Via Solution-Processed Metal Oxide Transport Layers

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite solar cells have recently attracted tremendous attention because of their excellent photovoltaic efficiencies. However, the poor stability of both the perovskite material and the charge transport layers has so far prevented the fabrication of devices that can withstand sustained operation under normal conditions. Here, we report a solution-processed lead halide perovskite solar cell that has p-type NiO x and n-type ZnO nanoparticles as hole and electron transport layers, respectively, and shows improved stability against water and oxygen degradation when compared with devices with organic charge transport layers. Our cells have a p–i–n structure (glass/indium tin oxide/NiO x /perovskite/ZnO/Al), in which the ZnO layer isolates the perovskite and Al layers, thus preventing degradation. After 60 days storage in air at room temperature, our all-metal-oxide devices retain about 90% of their original efficiency, unlike control devices made with organic transport layers, which undergo a complete degradation after just 5 days. The initial power conversion efficiency of our devices is 14.6 ± 1.5%, with an uncertified maximum value of 16.1%.

Abstract:Operational stability of efficient opto-electronic conversion is crucial for the success in large-scale application of perovskites devices. Owing to the intrinsically weak structure of perovskites, iodide represents the most volatile constituents, and its diffusion can induce irreversible degradation that continues to present a great challenge to realize stable perovskite devices, Here, we introduce a low-temperature processing strategy to increase the operational stability of high-efficiency perovskite solar modules by engineering low-dimensional diffusion barriers, reducing the unwanted interfacial diffusion of ions by 10(3)-10(7) times in magnitude. We finally achieved stable and efficient perovskite solar modules with an area of 36 cm(2) retaining over 95% of their initial efficiency of over 15% after 1,000 h of heating at 85 degrees C, and 91% after light soaking in AM 1.5 G solar light for 1,000 h, respectively. Our findings provide an effective strategy to realize operationally stable and efficient perovskite solar cell modules.
Highly Stabilized Perovskite Solar Cell Prepared Using Vacuum Deposition

Abstract:With proper optimization, high efficiency solar cells are fabricated with the perovskite layers prepared using a one-step solution process and vacuum deposition method. It is found that the perovskite film prepared using the vacuum deposition is apparently denser with complete surface coverage, whereas the one prepared using the solution deposition shows poorer film quality. As a result, the device made by vacuum deposition exhibits much better stability. After being exposed in ambient conditions for 1488 hours, the bare solar cell without encapsulation degraded by only 7% in efficiency, whereas the cell using the solution processing degraded by 30% in the first 144 hours. Moreover, it is found that the perovskite film prepared by vacuum deposition shows significantly better thermal stability. With the outstanding stability improvement using the vacuum processing, it appears promising that further encapsulation may help advance the perovskite devices further into applications.

Abstract:The thermal decomposition of perovskite films on ZnO surfaces is generally believed to originate from specific surface states of ZnO and the impact from the lattice mismatch between ZnO and perovskite films on this process has long been ignored. In this research, the role of lattice mismatch in the thermal degradation process of cesium-containing perovskite films on Al doped ZnO (AZO) is studied. A Ba(OH)2 buffer layer on the surface of AZO is employed to release the lattice mismatch and suppress the thermal degradation of perovskite films resulted from ZnO. Consequently, perovskite films with enhanced thermal stability and crystalline properties are obtained. Meanwhile, the Ba(OH)2 films efficiently passivate the surface trap states and reduce the vacuum level of the AZO surfaces. On this basis, electron transport layer-free perovskite solar cells yield the best efficiency of 18.18% and the thermal stability is obviously improved.

Abstract:The commercial mass production of perovskite solar cells requires full compatibility with roll‐to‐roll processing with enhanced device stability. In line with this, the present work addresses following issues simultaneously from multiple fronts: (i) low temperature processed (140 °C) ZnO is used as electron transport layer (ETL) for fabricating the mixed organic cation based perovskite solar cells, (ii) the expensive hole transporting layer (HTL) spiro‐OMeTAD is replaced with F4TCNQ doped P3HT and (iii) the fabrication method does not incorporate the dopant TBP which is known to induce degradation processes in perovskite layer. All the devices under study were fabricated in ambient conditions. The F4TCNQ doped P3HT (HTL) based devices exhibits 14 times higher device stability compared to the conventional Li‐TFSI/TBP doped P3HT devices. The underlying mechanism behind the enhanced device lifetime in F4TCNQ doped P3HT (HTL) based devices was investigated via in‐depth electronic, ionic and polaronic characterization. The enhanced polaronic property in F4TCNQ doped P3HT HTL device ascertains its superior hole extraction and electron blocking capability; and consequently higher stability retained even after a month of ageing. magnified image

Abstract:Although perovskite solar cells have gained attention for renewable and sustainable energy resources, their processing involves high-temperature thermal annealing (TA) and intricate post-treatment (PA) procedures to ensure high efficiency. We present a simple method to enable the formation of high-quality perovskite films at room temperature by exploring a mixed triple-cation ink with the addition of a linker. Through optimized processing conditions for each layer, we achieve a breakthrough device efficiency of 24.4% without TA or PA.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite solar cells require high-temperature preparation processes, which severely hinders their further commercial development. Inorganic perovskite materials have a high crystallization barrier, so the crystallinity is poor under low temperature conditions, resulting in poor device performance. Therefore, it is an important challenge to develop an excellent low-temperature preparation process. In this paper, the crystallization kinetics of the CsPbI2Br perovskite film under low temperature conditions was studied, and it was found that the perovskite was not completely crystallized during low temperature crystallization, and PbI2 remained. The PbI2 residue not only caused the appearance of lead defects but also formed insoluble CsBr due to the insufficient reaction of the raw materials. Through the interaction between the organic molecules 3-Amino-3-(3-pyridyl)propionic Acid (PA) and PbI2, the crystallization reaction process can be effectively improved. Eliminating the residual PbI2 also effectively inhibited the precipitation of CsBr, thereby significantly improved the crystallinity of CsPbI2Br. Efficiencies of 10.95% are achieved for low-temperature-processed CsPbI2Br planar-architecture FTO/SnO2/CsPbI2Br/carbon, and the obtained device also showed good stability in the air.

Kinetic Stabilization of the Sol-Gel State in Perovskites Enables Facile Processing of High-Efficiency Solar Cells

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells increasingly feature mixed-halide mixed-cation compounds (FA1- x - y MAx Csy PbI3- z Brz ) as photovoltaic absorbers, as they enable easier processing and improved stability. Here, the underlying reasons for ease of processing are revealed. It is found that halide and cation engineering leads to a systematic widening of the anti-solvent processing window for the fabrication of high-quality films and efficient solar cells. This window widens from seconds, in the case of single cation/halide systems (e.g., MAPbI3 , FAPbI3 , and FAPbBr3 ), to several minutes for mixed systems. In situ X-ray diffraction studies reveal that the processing window is closely related to the crystallization of the disordered sol-gel and to the number of crystalline byproducts; the processing window therefore depends directly on the precise cation/halide composition. Moreover, anti-solvent dripping is shown to promote the desired perovskite phase with careful formulation. The processing window of perovskite solar cells, as defined by the latest time the anti-solvent drip yields efficient solar cells, broadened with the increasing complexity of cation/halide content. This behavior is ascribed to kinetic stabilization of sol-gel state through cation/halide engineering. This provides guidelines for designing new formulations, aimed at formation of the perovskite phase, ultimately resulting in high-efficiency perovskite solar cells produced with ease and with high reproducibility.
Intermediate-phase engineering via dimethylammonium cation additive for stable perovskite solar cells

Abstract:Achieving the long-term stability of perovskite solar cells is arguably the most important challenge required to enable widespread commercialization. Understanding the perovskite crystallization process and its direct impact on device stability is critical to achieving this goal. The commonly employed dimethyl-formamide/dimethyl-sulfoxide solvent preparation method results in a poor crystal quality and microstructure of the polycrystalline perovskite films. In this work, we introduce a high-temperature dimethyl-sulfoxide-free processing method that utilizes dimethylammonium chloride as an additive to control the perovskite intermediate precursor phases. By controlling the crystallization sequence, we tune the grain size, texturing, orientation (corner-up versus face-up) and crystallinity of the formamidinium (FA)/caesium (FA)yCs1-yPb(IxBr1-x)3 perovskite system. A population of encapsulated devices showed improved operational stability, with a median T80 lifetime (the time over which the device power conversion efficiency decreases to 80% of its initial value) for the steady-state power conversion efficiency of 1,190 hours, and a champion device showed a T80 of 1,410 hours, under simulated sunlight at 65 °C in air, under open-circuit conditions. This work highlights the importance of material quality in achieving the long-term operational stability of perovskite optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Although low-temperature, solution-processed zinc oxide (ZnO) has been widely adopted as the electron collection layer (ECL) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) because of its simple synthesis and excellent electrical properties such as high charge mobility, the thermal stability of the perovskite films deposited atop ZnO layer remains as a major issue. Herein, we addressed this problem by employing aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) as the ECL and obtained extraordinarily thermally stable perovskite layers. The improvement of the thermal stability was ascribed to diminish of the Lewis acid-base chemical reaction between perovskite and ECL. Notably, the outstanding transmittance and conductivity also render AZO layer as an ideal candidate for transparent conductive electrodes, which enables a simplified cell structure featuring glass/AZO/perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD/Au. Optimization of the perovskite layer leads to an excellent and repeatable photovoltaic performance, with the champion cell exhibiting an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.94 V, a short-circuit current (Jsc) of 20.2 mA cm(-2), a fill factor (FF) of 0.67, and an overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 12.6% under standard 1 sun illumination. It was also revealed by steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence that the AZO/perovskite interface resulted in less quenching than that between perovskite and hole transport material.

Abstract:The instability of organic cations in lead halide perovskite materials is a major obstacle for the commercial breakthrough of perovskite photovoltaics due to desorption of organic cations during the thermal annealing and device operation. Herein, a novel strategy is reported to improve the performance and stability of organic halide perovskite solar cells containing organic cations by adding a small amount of the ionic liquid methylammonium difluoroacetate (MA + DFA − ). Nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy measurements show that MA + DFA − can anchor the organic cations via hydrogen bonding and enhance the Pb–O interaction in perovskite precursors, leading to the retardation of the perovskite crystallization and improved stability of the perovskite precursor solution. Dynamic light scattering and scanning electron microscopy verify the defect‐passivation effect of MA + DFA − on the perovskite precursors and films. The passivated perovskite film shows superior photo carrier dynamics as investigated by time‐resolved photoluminescence and transient absorption spectra. Moreover, the hydrogen bonding of the perovskite with MA + DFA − imparts excellent ambient and thermal stability to the film as revealed by X‐ray diffraction measurements. As a result, devices with a high efficiency of 21.46% and excellent stability over 180 days in nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature are achieved with the ionic liquid.

Room-Temperature Processing of Inorganic Perovskite Films to Enable Flexible Solar Cells

Abstract:Inorganic lead halide perovskite materials have attracted great attention recently due to their potential for greater thermal stability compared to hybrid organic perovskites. However, the high processing temperature to convert from the non-perovskite phase to cubic perovskite phase in many of these systems has limited their application in flexible optoelectronic devices. Here, we report a room temperature processed inorganic PSC based on CsPbI2Br as the light harvesting layer. By combing this composition with key precursor solvents, we show that the inorganic perovskite film can be prepared by the vacuum-assist method under room temperature conditions in air. Unencapsulated devices achieved the power conversion efficiency up to 8.67% when measured under 1-sun irradiation. Exploiting this room temperature process, flexible inorganic PSCs based on an inorganic metal halide perovskite material is demonstrated.

Abstract:Long-term stability is crucial for the future application of perovskite solar cells, a promising low-cost photovoltaic technology that has rapidly advanced in the recent years. Here, we designed a nanostructured carbon layer to suppress the diffusion of ions/molecules within perovskite solar cells, an important degradation process in the device. Furthermore, this nanocarbon layer benefited the diffusion of electron charge carriers to enable a high-energy conversion efficiency. Finally, the efficiency on a perovskite solar cell with an aperture area of 1.02 cm 2 , after a thermal aging test at 85 °C for over 500 h, or light soaking for 1,000 h, was stable of over 15% during the entire test. The present diffusion engineering of ions/molecules and photo generated charges paves a way to realizing long-term stable and highly efficient perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:The perovskite precursor chemistry is tailored via solvent engineering, which facilitates homogeneous, nucleation, and rapid crystallization of perovskite films in ambient air without necessity of thermal annealing. The room‐temperature processed, blade‐coated perovskite solar cells deliver a champion efficiency of 19.16% with negligible hysteresis, improved reproducibility, and extended lifespan. The perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are promising for commercialization and practical application. However, high‐quality perovskite films are normally fabricated in inert gas‐filled glovebox, followed by thermal annealing, which is energy‐consuming and thus not cost‐effective. In this study, a simple manufacturing strategy is demonstrated to fabricate the highly‐crystalline perovskite films in ambient air (a relative humidity of over ≈50%) at room temperature via blade‐coating without the subsequent thermal–annealing. The perovskite precursor chemistry is tailored by solvent engineering via employing 2‐methoxyethanol, which can strongly coordinate with ammonium halide species, thus forming highly uniform small‐sized colloids and facilitating the homogeneous nucleation and rapid crystallization of perovskite films even at room temperature. The resultant PSCs fabricated with ambient‐processed, annealing‐free MAPbI3 perovskite films exhibit a champion efficiency up to 19.16% with negligible hysteresis and improved reproducibility, which is on par with the high‐temperature annealed counterparts fabricated in N2, and represented one of the highest reported efficiencies for the room‐temperature processed PSCs in ambient air. The unencapsulated devices show extended lifespan over 1000 h with nearly no efficiency loss.

Abstract:High-efficiency organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells have experienced rapid development and attracted significant attention in recent years. However, instability to an ambient environment such as moisture is a facile challenge for the application of perovskite solar cells. Herein, 1,8-octanediammonium iodide (ODAI) is employed to construct a two-dimensional modified interface by in situ combined with residual PbI2 on the formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI(3)) perovskite surface. The ODA(2+) ion seems to lie horizontally on the surface of a three-dimensional perovskite due to its substitution for two FA(+) ions, which could protect the bulk perovskite more effectively. The unencapsulated perovskite solar cells showed notably improved stability, which remained 92% of its initial efficiency after storing in an ambient environment for 120 days. In addition, a higher open-circuit voltage of 1.13 V compared to that of the control device (1.04 V) was obtained due to the interface energy level modification and defect passivation. A champion power conversion efficiency of 21.18% was therefore obtained with a stabilized power output of 20.64% at the maximum power point for planar perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:The preparation of metal halide perovskite films with high crystallinity and high stability without heating in air is difficult to be realized, which is important for future large-scale applications of flexible perovskite solar cells. In this paper, we propose a method to realize the crystallization of perovskite thin films at room temperature, by using a mixed solution of three low-boiling polar molecules, 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME), methylamine (MA), and ethanol (EA). The mixed solution effectively dissolves the perovskite precursor, and high crystallinity perovskite thin films can be prepared without annealing in air. The as-prepared perovskite film still maintains the lattice structure after 120 h of continuous illumination in air, showing high stability under water, oxygen, and illumination conditions. This method is suitable for the preparation of perovskite thin films with a band gap of 1.60-1.78 eV. Finally, the flexible perovskite solar cells fabricated by this method achieved the highest photoelectric conversion efficiency of 19.63%. This provides a feasible direction for the large-scale commercial production of flexible perovskite solar cells.
Triisocyanate Derived Interlayer and High‐Melting‐Point Doping Promoter Boost Operational Stability of Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:Formamidinium lead triiodide serves as the optimal light-absorbing layer in single-junction perovskite solar cells. However, achieving operational stability of high-efficiency n-i-p type devices at elevated temperatures remains challenging. In this work, we implemented effective surface modifications on microcrystalline perovskite films. This involved the nucleophilic addition of formamidinium cations and coordination of residual PbI2 with triphenylmethane triisocyanate as well as subsequent polymerization. The in-situ growth of a cross-linking network chemically anchored on the perovskite film in this approach effectively reduced trap densities, favorably altered surface work function, suppressing interface charge recombination and thus enhancing cell efficiency. Coupled with a high-melting-point air-doping promoter, we fabricated n-i-p type perovskite solar cells surpassing 25% efficiency, demonstrating excellent operational stability at 65°C.
