On $K$-frames for Quaternionic Hilbert Spaces

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study $K$-frames for quaternionic Hilbert spaces. First, we present the quaternionic version of Douglas's theorem and then investigate $K$-frames for a quaternionic Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, where $K \in \mathbb{B}(\mathcal{H})$. Given two quaternionic Hilbert spaces $\mathcal{H}_1$ and $\mathcal{H}_2$, along with two right $\mathbb{H}$-linear bounded operators $K_1 \in \mathbb{B}(\mathcal{H}_1)$ and $K_2 \in \mathbb{B}(\mathcal{H}_2)$, we study the $K_1 \oplus K_2$-frames for the super space $\mathcal{H}_1 \oplus \mathcal{H}_2$ and their relationship with $K_1$-frames and $K_2$-frames for $\mathcal{H}_1$ and $\mathcal{H}_2$, respectively. We also explore the $K_1 \oplus K_2$-duality in relation to $K_1$-duality and $K_2$-duality.

Abstract:We study application of the Clifford algebra and the Grassmann algebra to image recognitions in $(3+1)D$ using quaternions. Following S.L.Adler, we construct a quaternion-valued wave function model with fermions and bosons of equal degrees of freedom, similar to Cartan's supersymmetric model. The Clifford algebra ${\mathcal A}_{3,1}$ is compared with ${\mathcal A}_{2,1}$ and the model applied to the $(2+1)D$ non-destructive testing is extended. The fixed point lattice actions are calculated for 7 paths in $(3+1)D$ space with lengths less than or equal to 8 lattice units. Comparison with the quaternion time approach of Ariel, quaternion Fourier transform of Hitzer and the tensor renormalization group approach to classical lattice models are also discussed.

Abstract:In this article, we discuss subspace duals of a frame of translates by an action of a closed abelian subgroup $\Gamma$ of a locally compact group $\mathscr G.$ These subspace duals are not required to lie in the space generated by the frame. We characterise translation-generated subspace duals of a frame/Riesz basis involving the Zak transform for the pair $(\mathscr G, \Gamma) .$ We continue our discussion on the orthogonality of two translation-generated Bessel pairs using the Zak transform, which allows us to explore the dual of super-frames. As an example, we extend our findings to splines, Gabor systems, $p$-adic fields $\mathbb Q p,$ locally compact abelian groups using the fiberization map.

Abstract:Quaternionic Hilbert spaces have important applications in quantum physics and the frame theory in quaternionic Hilbert spaces can handle many practical problems in physics. In this paper, we investigate oblique dual and g-dual frames in separable quaternionic Hilbert spaces. We provide a sufficient condition for commutativity of the oblique dual frames in quaternion Hilbert spaces. We present a parametric and algebraic formula for all oblique duals of any given frame in a closed subspace by utilizing a new (right) pre-frame operator. We prove that the canonical oblique dual has a minimum norm representation of elements in . We provide a method for constructing an oblique dual frame from two Bessel sequences. We show that g-duality relation is symmetric and get a necessary condition for g-duality of the sum of two g-dual frames. We also present a parametric expression of all g-dual frames of any given frame and show that approximate dual frame pairs form g-dual frames. We study perturbation-stability of g-dual frames.

Abstract:Various structures and configurations make frame to be a powerful tool in the domain of signal processing. Among its numerous configurations, the ones which have drawn much attention recently are Equiangular Tight Frames (ETFs) and Grassmannian Frames. These frames both have optimality in coherence, thus bring robustness and optimal performance in applications such as digital fingerprint, erasure channels, and Compressive Sensing. However, the strict constraint on existence and construction of ETFs and Grassmannian Frames becomes the main obstacle for widespread use. In this paper, we propose a new configuration of frames: Quasi-Equiangular Frames, as a compromise but more convenient and flexible approximation of ETFs and Grassmannian Frames. We will give formal definition of Quasi-Equiangular Frames and analyze its relationship with ETFs and Grassmannian Frames. Furthermore, for popularity of ETFs and Grassmannian Frames in Compressive Sensing, we utilize the technique of random matrices to obtain a probabilistic bound for the Restricted fsometry Constant (RfC) of Quasi-Equiangular Frame. Numerical simulations are demonstrated for validation.
The Quaternion-Based Spatial Coordinate and Orientation Frame Alignment Problems

Abstract:We review the general problem of finding a global rotation that transforms a given set of points and/or coordinate frames (the "test" data) into the best possible alignment with a corresponding set (the "reference" data). For 3D point data, this "orthogonal Procrustes problem" is often phrased in terms of minimizing a root-mean-square deviation or RMSD corresponding to a Euclidean distance measure relating the two sets of matched coordinates. We focus on quaternion eigensystem methods that have been exploited to solve this problem for at least five decades in several different bodies of scientific literature where they were discovered independently. While numerical methods for the eigenvalue solutions dominate much of this literature, it has long been realized that the quaternion-based RMSD optimization problem can also be solved using exact algebraic expressions based on the form of the quartic equation solution published by Cardano in 1545; we focus on these exact solutions to expose the structure of the entire eigensystem for the traditional 3D spatial alignment problem. We then explore the structure of the less-studied orientation data context, investigating how quaternion methods can be extended to solve the corresponding 3D quaternion orientation frame alignment (QFA) problem, noting the interesting equivalence of this problem to the rotation-averaging problem, which also has been the subject of independent literature threads. We conclude with a brief discussion of the combined 3D translation-orientation data alignment problem. Appendices are devoted to a tutorial on quaternion frames, a related quaternion technique for extracting quaternions from rotation matrices, and a review of quaternion rotation-averaging methods relevant to the orientation-frame alignment problem. Supplementary Material covers extensions of quaternion methods to the 4D problem.

Abstract:Orthogonal matrices which are linear combinations of permutation matrices have attracted enormous attention in quantum information and computation. In this paper, we provide a complete parametric characterization of all complex, real and rational orthogonal permutative matrices of order $4.$ We show that any such matrix can always be expressed as a linear combination of up to four permutation matrices. Finally we determine several matrix spaces generated by linearly independent permutation matrices such that any orthogonal matrix in these spaces is always permutative or direct sum of orthogonal permutative matrices up to permutation of its rows and columns.

Geometric Interpretations of Compatibility for Fundamental Matrices

Abstract:In recent work, algebraic computational software was used to provide the exact algebraic conditions under which a sixtuple $\{F^{ij}\}$ of fundamental matrices, corresponding to $4$ images, will be compatible, i.e. there will exist cameras $\{P_i\}_{i=1}^4$ such that each pair $P_i,P_j$ has fundamental matrix $F^{ij}$; it has been further demonstrated that quadruplewise compatibility is sufficient for the problem of $n>4$ images. We expand on these prior results by proving equivalent geometric conditions for compatibility. We find that when the camera centers are in general position, compatibility can be characterized via the intersections of epipolar lines in each image. When the camera centers are coplanar, compatibility occurs when the prior condition holds and additionally any one camera center can be reconstructed via the other three.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to study (Multi-window) Gabor systems in the space $\ell^2(\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}, \mathbb{H})$, denoted by $\mathcal{G}(g,L,M,N)$, and defined by: \[ \left\{ (k_1,k_2)\in \mathbb{Z}^2\mapsto e^{2\pi i \frac{m_1}{M}k_1} g_l(k - nN) e^{2\pi j \frac{m_2}{M}k_2} \right\}_{l \in \mathbb{N}_L, (m_1, m_2) \in \mathbb{N}_M^2, n \in \mathbb{Z}^2}, \] where, $L,M,N$ are positive integers, $i,j$ are the imaginary units in the quaternion algebra, and $ \{g_l\}_{l \in \mathbb{N}_L} \subset \ell^2(\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}, \mathbb{H}) $. Special emphasis is placed on the case where the sequences $g_l$ are real-valued. The questions addressed in this work include the characterization of quaternionic Gabor systems that form frames, the characterization of those that are orthonormal bases, and the admissibility of such systems. We also explore necessary and/or sufficient conditions for Gabor frames. The issue of duality is also discussed. Furthermore, we study the stability of these systems.

Orthogonal coordinates on 4 dimensional Kähler manifolds

Abstract:The existence of orthogonal local coordinates is a generalization of the manifold being conformally flat. It is always possible to construct orthogonal coordinates on 2-manifolds, using geometric normal coordinates or isothermal coordinates. In 1984, Dennis DeTurck and Dean Yang [4] showed the existence of orthogonal coordinates on any Riemannian 3-manifold. Thus there are manifolds which have orthogonal coordinates, but are not conformally flat, since the Cotton tensor presents an obstruction to conformal flatness in dimension 3. They also showed that, for dimensions at least 4, there is apparently an obstruction to the existence of orthogonal coordinates, in that curvature components of the form R_{ijkl}, with all 4 indices distinct, will vanish if the directions correspond to orthogonal coordinates. Thus, in high dimensions, the existence of orthogonal coordinates implies a certain sparseness of the Riemannian curvature tensor. Recently, Paul Gauduchon and Andrei Moroianu showed [5] that there are no orthogonal coordinates on complex or quaternionic projective space except for trivial cases. The main results of this work are that no nontrivial self-dual Kähler 4-manifold (4 real dimensions) supports orthogonal local coordinates, and also no nontrivial Ricci-flat Kähler 4-manifold supports orthogonal coordinates. The first result uses the same technique developed by Gauduchon and Moroianu in the special case of complex projective 2-space with the Fubini-Study metric, but the second result uses purely algebraic methods.

Group-Frames for Banach Spaces

Abstract:In the literature, frames generated by unitary representations of groups (known as group-frames) are studied only for Hilbert spaces. We make first study of frames for Banach spaces generated by isometric invertible representations of discrete groups on Banach spaces. These frames are characterized using left regular, right regular, Gram-matrices and group-matrices on classical sequence spaces. A sufficiently large collection of functional-vector pairs using the double commutant of the representation is identified which generate group-frames for Banach spaces. Subsequently, we study Schauder frames generated by time-frequency shift operators on finite dimensional Banach spaces. We derive Moyal formula, fundamental identity of Gabor analysis, Wexler-Raz criterion and Ron-Shen duality in functional form.

Abstract:This work is based on the field of reference frames based on quantum representations of real and complex numbers described in other work. Here frame domains are expanded to include space and time lattices. Strings of qukits are described as hybrid systems as they are both mathematical and physical systems. As mathematical systems they represent numbers. As physical systems in each frame the strings have a discrete Schrodinger dynamics on the lattices. The frame field has an iterative structure such that the contents of a stage j frame have images in a stage j-1 (parent) frame. A discussion of parent frame images includes the proposal that points of stage j frame lattices have images as hybrid systems in parent frames. The resulting association of energy with images of lattice point locations, as hybrid systems states, is discussed. Representations and images of other physical systems in the different frames are also described.

Abstract:We show that much of the theory of finite tight frames can be generalised to vector spaces over the quaternions. This includes the variational characterisation, group frames, and the characterisations of projective and unitary equivalence. We are particularly interested in sets of equiangular lines (equi-isoclinic subspaces) and the groups associated with them, and how to move them between the spaces $\Rd$, $\Cd$ and $\Hd$. We discuss what the analogue of Zauner's conjecture for equiangular lines in $\Hd$ might be.

Abstract:Quantum reference frames are needed in quantum theory for much the same reasons that reference frames are in classical theories: to manifest invariance in line with fundamental relativity principles and to provide a basis for the definition of observable quantities. Though around since the 1960s, and used in a wide range of applications, only recently has the means for transforming descriptions between different quantum reference frames been tackled in detail. In this work, we provide a general, operationally motivated framework for quantum reference frames and their transformations, holding for locally compact groups. The work is built around the notion of operational equivalence, in which quantum states that cannot be physically distinguished are identified. For example, we describe the collection of relative observables as a subspace of the algebra of invariants on the composite of system and frame, and from here the set of relative states is constructed through the identification of states which cannot be distinguished by relative observables. Through the notion of framed observables -- the formation of joint observables of system and frame -- of which the relative observables can be understood as examples, quantum reference frame transformations are then maps between equivalence classes of relative states which respect the framing. We give an explicit realisation in the setting that the initial frame admits a highly localized state with respect to the frame observable. The transformations are invertible exactly when the final frame also has such a localizability property. The procedure we present is in operational agreement with other recent inequivalent constructions on the domain of common applicability, but extends them in a number of ways, and weakens claims of entanglement generation through frame changes.

Abstract:We explain how the redefinitions of supermultiplet component fields, comprising what we call "frame shifts", can be used in conjuction with the graphical technology of multiplet Adkinras to render manifest the reducibility of off-shell representations of supersymmetry. This technology speaks to possibility of organizing multiplet constraints in a way which complements and extends the possibilities afforded by superspace methods.

Abstract:Composite quantum systems can be decomposed into subsystems in many different inequivalent ways. We call a particular decomposition a meronomic reference frame for the system. We apply the ideas of quantum reference frames to characterize meronomic frames, identify tasks that require such frames to accomplish, and show how asymmetric quantum states can be used to embody meronomic frame information.
