Abstract:We study families of linear differential equations parametrized by an algebraic variety $\mathcal{X}$ and show that the set of all points $x\in \mathcal{X}$, such that the differential Galois group at the generic fibre specializes to the differential Galois group at the fibre over $x$, is Zariski dense in $\mathcal{X}$. As an application, we prove Matzat's conjecture in full generality: The absolute differential Galois group of a one-variable function field over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero is a free proalgebraic group.

Abstract:We consider a purely algebraic result. Then given a circle or cyclic group of prime order action on a manifold, we will use it to estimate the lower bound of the number of fixed points. We also give an obstruction to the existence of $\mathbb{Z}_p$ action on manifolds with isolated fixed points when $p$ is a prime.

Abstract:The cohomology H * (Gamma, E) of an arithmetic subgroup F of a connected reductive algebraic group G defined over some algebraic number field F can be interpreted in terms of the automorphic spectrum of Gamma. With this framework in place, there is a sum decomposition of the cohomology into the cuspidal cohomology (i.e., classes represented by cuspidal automorphic forms for G) and the so-called Eisenstein cohomology constructed as the span of appropriate residues or derivatives of Eisenstein series attached to cuspidal automorphic forms on the Levi components of proper parabolic F-subgroups of G. The main objective of this paper is to isolate a specific structural part in the Eisenstein cohomology. This pertains to regular Eisenstein cohomology classes attached to cuspidal automorphic representations whose archimedean component is tempered. It is shown that the cohomological degree of these classes is bounded from below by the constant q(0)(G(R)) = ((1 /2)[dim X-G(R) - (rk(G(R)) - rk(K-R))], where KR denotes a maximal compact subgroup of the real Lie group G(R), where XG(R) is the associated symmetric space. This investigation has various applications. One of these is a vanishing result,for the cohomology in the generic case (i.e., where coefficient system E has regular highest weight) the representation determining the in degrees below q(0) (G (R)). This is a sharp bound depending only on the underlying real Lie group G (R) (Corollary 5.6, Proposition 5.8). This result is supplemented by a qualitative structural result in the description of the cohomology in higher degrees by means of regular Eisenstein cohomology classes.

Abstract:A classical result of Klein states that, given a finite primitive group G ⊆ S L 2 ( C ) , there exists a hypergeometric equation such that every second order LODE whose differential Galois group is isomorphic to G is projectively equivalent to the pullback by a rational map of this hypergeometric equation. In this paper, we generalize this result. We show that, given a finite primitive group G ⊆ S L n ( C ) , there exist a positive integer d = d ( G ) and a standard equation such that every LODE whose differential Galois group is isomorphic to G is gauge equivalent, over a field extension F of degree d, to an equation projectively equivalent to the pullback by a map in F of this standard equation. For n = 3 , these standard equations can be chosen to be hypergeometric.

Abstract:Let $C \langle \boldsymbol{t} \rangle$ be the differential field generated by $l$ differential indeterminates $\boldsymbol{t}=(t_1, \dots, t_l)$ over an algebraically closed field $C$ of characteristic zero. In this article we present an explicit linear parameter differential equation over $C \langle \boldsymbol{t} \rangle$ with differential Galois group $\mathrm{SL}_{l+1}(C)$ and show that it is a generic equation in the following sense: If $F$ is an algebraically closed differential field with constants $C$ and $E/F$ is a Picard-Vessiot extension with differential Galois group $H(C) \subseteq \mathrm{SL}_{l+1}(C)$, then a specialization of our equation defines a Picard-Vessiot extension differentially isomorphic to $E/F$.

Abstract:We obtain Fuchs decomposition theorem for regular singular differential modules over a large class of differential rings. We provide a definition of regularity inspired by differential Galois theory and we deduce the classical equivalence with vector spaces endowed with an automorphism.

Abstract:For every number field and every Cartan Killing type, there is an associated split simple algebraic group. We examine whether the corresponding arithmetic subgroups are profinitely solitary so that the commensurability class of the profinite completion determines the commensurability class of the group among finitely generated residually finite groups. Assuming Grothendieck rigidity, we essentially solve the problem by Galois cohomological means.

Abstract:We present an extension of the methods of classical Lie group analysis of differential equations to equations involving generalized functions (in particular: distributions). A suitable framework for such a generalization is provided by Colombeau's theory of algebras of generalized functions. We show that under some mild conditions on the differential equations, symmetries of classical solutions remain symmetries for generalized solutions. Moreover, we introduce a generalization of the infinitesimal methods of group analysis that allows to compute symmetries of linear and nonlinear differential equations containing generalized function terms. Thereby, the group generators and group actions may be given by generalized functions themselves.

Abstract:This paper addresses a new approach to find a spectrum of information measures for the process of digital circuit synthesis. We consider the problem from the information engine point of view. The circuit synthesis as a whole and different steps of the design process (an example of decision diagram is given) are presented via such measurements as entropy, logical work and information vitality. We also introduce new information measures to provide better estimates of synthesis criteria. We show that the basic properties of information engine, such as the conservation law of information flow and the equilibrium law of information can be formulated.

Abstract:In a series of publications we developed “differential geometry” on discrete sets based on concepts of noncommutative geometry. In particular, it turned out that first-order differential calculi (over the algebra of functions) on a discrete set are in bijective correspondence with digraph structures where the vertices are given by the elements of the set. A particular class of digraphs are Cayley graphs, also known as group lattices. They are determined by a discrete group G and a finite subset S. There is a distinguished subclass of “bicovariant” Cayley graphs with the property ad(S)S⊂S. We explore the properties of differential calculi which arise from Cayley graphs via the above correspondence. The first-order calculi extend to higher orders and then allow us to introduce further differential geometric structures. Furthermore, we explore the properties of “discrete” vector fields which describe deterministic flows on group lattices. A Lie derivative with respect to a discrete vector field and an inner product with forms is defined. The Lie–Cartan identity then holds on all forms for a certain subclass of discrete vector fields. We develop elements of gauge theory and construct an analog of the lattice gauge theory (Yang–Mills) action on an arbitrary group lattice. Also linear connections are considered and a simple geometric interpretation of the torsion is established. By taking a quotient with respect to some subgroup of the discrete group, generalized differential calculi associated with so-called Schreier diagrams are obtained.

Abstract:We classify (up to quasi-isomorphism) the free differential modules whose homology is equal to a given module $M$ by developing a theory for deforming an arbitrary free complex into a differential module. We use an iterative approach to parameterize the deformations and obstructions in terms of certain Ext groups, giving an algorithmic realization of a result of Brown-Erman. We apply this theory to study certain rigidity properties of free resolutions and related rank conjectures.

Abstract:By a classic result of Gessel, the exponential generating functions for $k$-regular graphs are D-finite. Using Gröbner bases in Weyl algebras, we compute the linear differential equations satisfied by the generating function for 5-, 6-, and 7- regular graphs. The method is sufficiently robust to consider variants such as graphs with multiple edges, loops, and graphs whose degrees are limited to fixed sets of values.

A note on the inverse problem for finite differential Galois groups

Abstract:In this paper we revisit the following inverse problem: given a curve invariant under an irreducible finite linear algebraic group, can we construct an ordinary linear differential equation whose Schwarz map parametrizes it? We present an algorithmic solution to this problem under the assumption that we are given the function field of the quotient curve. The result provides a generalization and an efficient implementation of the solution to the inverse problem exposed by M. van der Put, C. Sanabria and J.Top [19]. As an application, we show that there is no hypergeometric equation with differential Galois group isomorphic to $H_{72}^{SL_3}$, thus completing Beuker and Heckman's answer [4] to the question of which irreducible finite subgroup of $SL_3(\mathbb{C})$ are the monodromy of a hypergeometric equation.

Abstract:We investigate the real Lie algebra of first-order differential operators with polynomial coefficients, which is subject to the following requirements. (1) The Lie algebra should admit a basis of differential operators with homogeneous polynomial coefficients of degree up to and including three. (2) The generator of the algebra must include the translation operators $\partial_k$ for all the variables $x_1$,...,$x_k$. (3) The Lie algebra is the smallest indecomposable Lie algebra satisfying (1) and (2). It turns out to be a 39-dimensional Lie algebra in six variables ($k=6$) and the construction of this algebra is also the simplest possible case in the general construction of the Lie algebras of the transitively differential groups introduced by Guillemin and Sternberg in 1964 involving the coefficients of degree 3. Those algebras and various subalgebras have similarities with algebras related to different applications in physics such as those of the Schrödinger, Conformal and Galilei transformation groups with and without central extension. The paper is devoted to the presentation of the structure and different decompositions of the Lie algebra under investigation. It is also devoted to the presentation of relevant Lie subalgebras and the construction of their Casimir invariants using different methods. We will rely, in particular, on differential operator realizations, symbolic computation packages, the Berezin bracket and virtual copies of the Lie algebras.

Singular SPDEs on Homogeneous Lie Groups

Abstract:The aim of this article is to extend the scope of the theory of regularity structures in order to deal with a large class of singular SPDEs of the form $$\partial_t u = \mathfrak{L} u+ F(u, \xi)\ ,$$ where the differential operator $\mathfrak{L}$ fails to be elliptic. This is achieved by interpreting the base space $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ as a non-trivial homogeneous Lie group $\mathbb{G}$ such that the differential operator $\partial_t -\mathfrak{L}$ becomes a translation invariant hypoelliptic operator on $\mathbb{G}$. Prime examples are the kinetic Fokker-Planck operator $\partial_t -\Delta_v - v\cdot \nabla_x$ and heat-type operators associated to sub-Laplacians. As an application of the developed framework, we solve a class of parabolic Anderson type equations $$\partial_t u = \sum_{i} X^2_i u + u (\xi-c)$$ on the compact quotient of an arbitrary Carnot group.
