Abstract:We study the spaces of twisted conformal blocks attached to a $\Gamma$-curve $\Sigma$ with marked $\Gamma$-orbits and an action of $\Gamma$ on a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, where $\Gamma$ is a finite group. We prove that if $\Gamma$ stabilizes a Borel subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$, then Propagation Theorem and Factorization Theorem hold. We endow a flat projective connection on the sheaf of twisted conformal blocks attached to a smooth family of pointed $\Gamma$-curves; in particular, it is locally free. We also prove that the sheaf of twisted conformal blocks on the stable compactification of Hurwitz stack is locally free. Let $\mathscr{G}$ be the parahoric Bruhat-Tits group scheme on the quotient curve $\Sigma/\Gamma$ obtained via the $\Gamma$-invariance of Weil restriction associated to $\Sigma$ and the simply-connected simple algebraic group $G$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. We prove that the space of twisted conformal blocks can be identified with the space of generalized theta functions on the moduli stack of quasi-parabolic $\mathscr{G}$-torsors on $\Sigma/\Gamma$ when the level $c$ is divisible by $|\Gamma|$ (establishing a conjecture due to Pappas-Rapoport).

Abstract:Let be a finite group acting on a simple Lie algebra and acting on a s -pointed projective curve faithfully (for ). Also, let an integrable highest weight module of an appropriate twisted affine Lie algebra determined by the ramification at with a fixed central charge c is attached to each . We prove that the space of twisted conformal blocks attached to this data is isomorphic to the space associated to a quotient group of acting on by diagram automorphisms and acting on a quotient of . Under some mild conditions on ramification types, we prove that calculating the dimension of twisted conformal blocks can be reduced to the situation when acts on by diagram automorphisms and covers of with 3 marked points. Assuming a twisted analogue of Teleman's vanishing theorem of Lie algebra homology, we derive an analogue of the Kac–Walton formula and the Verlinde formula for general -curves (with mild restrictions on ramification types). In particular, if the Lie algebra is not of type , there are no restrictions on ramification types.

Abstract:In this work we study Liouville conformal blocks with degenerate primaries and one operator in an irregular representation of the Virasoro algebra. Using an algebraic approach, we derive modified BPZ equations satisfied by such blocks and subsequently construct corresponding integral representations based on integration over non-compact Lefschetz cycles. The integral representations are then used to derive novel types of flat connections on the irregular conformal block bundle.

Sewing and Propagation of Conformal Blocks

Abstract:We clarify the relations between sewing and propagating conformal blocks. In particular, we show that sewing and propagation and commuting procedures. As an application, we give a geometric construction of permutation-twisted modules for tensor product VOAs. Their first (algebraic) construction is due to Barron-Dong-Mason. The results and the point of view in this article are crucial for relating the (genus-0) permutation-twisted conformal blocks associated to a tensor product VOA $V^{\otimes k}$ and the untwisted conformal blocks (of possibly higher genera) associated to $V$, which will be discussed in an upcoming work.

Degenerate conformal blocks for the $W_3$ algebra at c=2 and Specht polynomials

Abstract:We study a homogeneous system of $d+8$ linear partial differential equations (PDEs) in $d$ variables arising from two-dimensional Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) with a $W_3$-symmetry algebra. In the CFT context, $d$ PDEs are third order and correspond to the null-state equations, whereas the remaining 8 PDEs (five being second order and three being first order) correspond to the $W_3$ global Ward identities. In the case of central charge $c=2$, we construct a subspace of the space of all solutions which grow no faster than a power law. We call this subspace the space of $W_3$ conformal blocks, and we provide a basis expressed in terms of Specht polynomials associated with column-strict, rectangular Young tableaux with three columns. The dimension of this space is a Kotska number and it coincides with CFT predictions, hence we conjecture that it exhausts the space of all solutions having a power law bound. Moreover, we prove that the space of $W_3$ conformal blocks is an irreducible representation of a certain diagram algebra defined from $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ webs that we call Kuperberg algebra. Finally, we formulate a precise conjecture relating the $W_3$ conformal blocks at $c=2$ to scaling limits of probabilities in the triple dimer model recently studied by Kenyon and Shi. We verify the conjecture for explicit examples up to $d=6$. For more general central charges, we expect that $W_3$ conformal blocks are related to scaling limits of probabilities in lattice models based on $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ webs.

Abstract:In recent work, Damiolini-Gibney-Tarasca showed that for a $C_2$-cofinite rational CFT-type vertex operator algebra $\mathbb V$, sheaves of conformal blocks are locally free and satisfy the factorization property. In this article, we use analytic methods to prove that sewing conformal blocks is convergent, solving a conjecture proposed by Zhu and Huang.

Abstract:Given a simple, simply connected, complex algebraic group G, a flat projective connection on the bundle of nonabelian theta functions on the moduli space of semistable parabolic G-bundles over any family of smooth projective curves with marked points was constructed by the authors in an earlier paper. Here, it is shown that the identification between the bundle of nonabelian theta functions and the bundle of WZNW conformal blocks is flat with respect to this connection and the one constructed by Tsuchiya-Ueno-Yamada. As an application, we give a geometric construction of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection on the trivial bundle over the configuration space of points in the projective line whose typical fiber is the space of invariants of tensor product of representations.

Abstract:The non-abelian Hodge correspondence maps a polystable $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$-Higgs bundle on a compact Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g\geq2$ to a connection which, in some cases, is the holonomy of a branched hyperbolic structure. On the other hand, Gaiotto's conformal limit maps the same bundle to a partial oper, i.e., to a connection whose holonomy is that of a branched complex projective structure compatible with $X$. In this article, we show how these are both instances of the same phenomenon: the family of connections appearing in the conformal limit can be understood as a family of complex projective structures, deforming the hyperbolic ones into the ones compatible with $X$. We also show that, when the Higgs bundle has zero Toledo invariant, this deformation is optimal, inducing a geodesic on Teichmüller's metric space.

Conformal blocks on smoothings via mode transition algebras

Abstract:Here we define a series of associative algebras attached to a vertex operator algebra $V$, called mode transition algebras, showing they reflect both algebraic properties of $V$ and geometric constructions on moduli of curves. One can define sheaves of coinvariants on pointed coordinatized curves from $V$-modules. We show that if the mode transition algebras admit multiplicative identities with certain properties, these sheaves deform as wanted on families of curves with nodes (so $V$ satisfies smoothing). Consequently, coherent sheaves of coinvariants defined by vertex operator algebras that satisfy smoothing form vector bundles. We also show that mode transition algebras give information about higher level Zhu algebras and generalized Verma modules. As an application, we completely describe higher level Zhu algebras of the Heisenberg vertex algebra for all levels, proving a conjecture of Addabbo--Barron.

Analytic Conformal Blocks of $C_2$-cofinite Vertex Operator Algebras I: Propagation and Dual Fusion Products

Abstract:This is the first paper of a three-part series in which we develop a theory of conformal blocks for $C_2$-cofinite vertex operator algebras (VOAs) that are not necessarily rational. The ultimate goal of this series is to prove a sewing-factorization theorem (and in particular, a factorization formula) for conformal blocks over holomorphic families of compact Riemann surfaces, associated to grading-restricted (generalized) modules of $C_2$-cofinite VOAs. In this paper, we prove that if $\mathbb V$ is a $C_2$-cofinite VOA, if $\mathfrak X$ is a compact Riemann surface with $N$ incoming marked points and $M$ outgoing ones, each equipped with a local coordinate, and if $\mathbb W$ is a grading-restricted $\mathbb V^{\otimes N}$-modules, then the ``dual fusion product" exists as a grading-restricted $\mathbb V^{\otimes M}$-module. Indeed, we prove a more general version of this result without assuming $\mathbb V$ to be $C_2$-cofinite. Our main method is a generalization of the propagation of conformal blocks. In the special case that $\mathfrak X$ has genus $0$, when $N=2,M=1$, our result is closely related to the theory of vertex tensor categories by Huang-Lepowsky and Huang-Lepowsky-Zhang. When $N=1,M=2$, the dual fusion product of $\mathbb W$ is closely related to Li's regular representations; if moreover $\mathbb W=\mathbb V$, the higher level Zhu algebra $A_n(\mathbb V)$ arises naturally from the dual fusion product of $\mathbb V$.

Abstract:It has been conjectured for quite some time that a bundle of conformal blocks carries a unitary structure that is (projectively) flat for the Hitchin connection. This was recently established by T.R. Ramadas in the simplest nontrivial case, namely where the genus is zero and the group is SL(2). In this paper we present a shorter and more direct version of his proof. We also identify the conformal block space with the bidegree (N, 0)-part of an eigenspace of a finite group acting on a Hodge structure of weight N. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A bstract We show how to map Grothendieck’s dessins d’enfants to algebraic curves as Seiberg-Witten curves, then use the mirror map and the AGT map to obtain the corresponding 4d $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 supersymmetric instanton partition functions and 2d Virasoro conformal blocks. We explicitly demonstrate the 6 trivalent dessins with 4 punctures on the sphere. We find that the parametrizations obtained from a dessin should be related by certain duality for gauge theories. Then we will discuss that some dessins could correspond to conformal blocks satisfying certain rules in different minimal models.

Liouville theory and the Weil-Petersson geometry of moduli space: bordered, conic, and higher genus surfaces

Abstract:Two-dimensional conformal field theory is a powerful tool to understand the geometry of surfaces. Here, we study Liouville conformal field theory in the classical (large central charge) limit, where it encodes the geometry of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. Generalizing previous work, we employ this to study moduli spaces of higher genus surfaces, surfaces with boundaries, and surfaces with cone points. In each case, the knowledge of classical conformal blocks provides an extremely efficient approximation to the Weil-Petersson metric on moduli space. We find detailed agreement with analytic results for volumes and geodesic lengths on moduli space.

Abstract:We describe a prescription for constructing conformal blocks in conformal field theories in any space-time dimension with arbitrary quantum numbers. Our procedure reduces the calculation of conformal blocks to constructing certain group theoretic structures that depend on the quantum numbers of primary operators. These structures project into irreducible Lorentz representations. Once the Lorentz quantum numbers are accounted for there are no further calculations left to do. We compute a multivariable generalization of the Exton function. This generalized Exton function, together with the group theoretic structures, can be used to construct conformal blocks for four-point as well as higher-point correlation functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a geometric counterpart of the cyclic vector which allow us to put a rank 2 meromorphic connection on a curve into a ``companion'' normal form. This allow us to naturally identify an open set of the moduli space of $\mathrm{GL}_2$-connections (with fixed generic spectral data, i.e. unramified, non resonant) with some Hilbert scheme of points on the twisted cotangent bundle of the curve. We prove that this map is symplectic, therefore providing Darboux (or canonical) coordinates on the moduli space, i.e. separation of variables. On the other hand, for $\mathrm{SL}_2$-connections, we give an explicit formula for the symplectic structure for a birational model given by Matsumoto. We finally detail the case of an elliptic curve with a divisor of degree $2$.

Holographic Description of 2D Conformal Block in Semi-Classical Limit

Abstract:In this paper, we study the holographic descriptions of the conformal block of heavy operators in two-dimensional large c conformal field theory. We consider the case that the operators are pairwise inserted such that the distance between the operators in a pair is much smaller than the others. In this case, each pair of heavy operators creates a conical defect in the bulk. We propose that the conformal block is dual to the on-shell action of three dimensional geometry with conical defects in the semi-classical limit. We show that the variation of the on-shell action with respect to the conical angle is equal to the length of the corresponding conical defect. We derive this differential relation on the conformal block in the field theory by introducing two extra light operators as both the probe and the perturbation. Our study also suggests that the area law of the holographic Renyi entropy must holds for a large class of states generated by a finite number of heavy operators insertion.
