Abstract:T2K is a neutrino oscillation experiment with a 295 km long baseline between the far detector, Super-Kamiokande, and a suite of near detectors to study $\nu_\mu/\bar{\nu}_\mu$ disappearance and $\nu_e/\bar{\nu}_e$ appearance in a $\nu_\mu/\bar{\nu}_\mu$ neutrino beam produced at J-PARC. The experiment has excluded CP conservation in the three-neutrino oscillation model at $>90~\%$ CL and precisely constrained the parameters $\vert \Delta m_{32}^2 \vert$ and $\sin^2 \theta_{23}$. This paper reports on the novelties of the most up-to-date 2022 analysis and the near-future prospects of T2K.

Abstract:The T2K neutrino oscillation experiment has gone through a period of renewal over the last couple of years, with several upgrades designed to improve sensitivity to leptonic CP violation. The change that most affects future analyses is the ND280 upgrade, which will constrain interaction models in new ways. At the same time the analysis continues to be developed, both by combining with the Super-Kamiokande atmospheric measurements and with refinements to the T2K-only analysis. This proceedings describes the highlights of these analyses, and the status of the various T2K upgrades.

Abstract:The Tokai to Kamioka (T2K) experiment is a next generation long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment utilising the Japan Proton Accelerator Research complex (J-PARC) high intensity proton synchrotron. After a brief introduction of the current understanding of neutrino mixing, the T2K experiment, its current status and the expected physics results are presented. Then, possibilities for future neutrino oscillation experiments utilising J-PARC are discussed.

Abstract:Aiming to settle the controversial observations for halogen-bridged binuclear transition-metal (MMX) complexes, finite-temperature Hartree-Fock calculations are performed for a relevant two-band Peierls-Hubbard model. Thermal, as well as quantum, phase transitions are investigated with particular emphasis on the competition between electron itinerancy, electron-phonon interaction and electron-electron correlation. Recently observed distinct thermal behaviors of two typical MMX compounds Pt_2(CH_3CS_2)_4I and (NH_4)_4[Pt_2(P_2O_5H_2)_4I]2H_2O are supported and further tuning of their electronic states is predicted.

Abstract:Numbers of accelerator and reactor neutrino oscillation experiments aiming to search finite value of $\theta_{13}$ are starting within a few years. T2K experiment is a next generation long baseline neutrino experiment starts on 2009, in Japan. A main goal of the T2K experiment is to discover a finite $\theta_{13}$ by observing $\nu_e$ appearance. Determining $\theta_{13}$ leads a next search of CP violation in the lepton sector. Status of T2K experiment and prospects for CP measurement are reported in the report.

Abstract:We demonstrate diversification rather than optimisation for highly interacting organisms in a well mixed biological system by means of a simple model and reference to experiment, and find the cause to be the complex network of interactions formed, allowing species less well adapted to an environment to flourish by co-interaction over the `best' species. This diversification can be considered as the construction of many co-evolutionary niches by the network of interactions between species. Evidence for this comes from work with the bacteria Escherichia coli, which may coexist with their own mutants under certain conditions. Diversification only occurs above a certain threshold interaction strength, below which competitive exclusion occurs.

Abstract:The T2K experiment studies oscillations of an off-axis muon neutrino beam between the J-PARC accelerator complex and the Super-Kamiokande detector. Special emphasis is placed on measuring the mixing angle theta_13 by observing electron neutrino appearance via the sub-dominant muon neutrino to electron neutrino oscillation, and searching for CP violation in the lepton sector. The experiment includes a sophisticated, off-axis, near detector, the ND280, situated 280 m downstream of the neutrino production target in order to measure the properties of the neutrino beam and to understand better neutrino interactions at the energy scale below a few GeV. The data collected with the ND280 are used to study charged- and neutral-current neutrino interaction rates and kinematics prior to oscillation, in order to reduce uncertainties in the oscillation measurements by the far detector. A key element of the near detector is the ND280 electromagnetic calorimeter (ECal), consisting of active scintillator bars sandwiched between lead sheets and read outwith multi-pixel photon counters (MPPCs). The ECal is vital to the reconstruction of neutral particles, and the identification of charged particle species. The ECal surrounds the Pi-0 detector (P0D) and the tracking region of the ND280, and is enclosed in the former UA1/NOMAD dipole magnet. This paper describes the design, construction and assembly of the ECal, as well as the materials from which it is composed. The electronic and data acquisition (DAQ) systems are discussed, and performance of the ECal modules, as deduced from measurements with particle beams, cosmic rays, the calibration system, and T2K data, is described.

Abstract:The T2K experiment presents new measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters using $19.7(16.3)\times10^{20}$ protons on target (POT) in (anti-)neutrino mode at the far detector (FD). Compared to the previous analysis, an additional $4.7\times10^{20}$ POT neutrino data was collected at the FD. Significant improvements were made to the analysis methodology, with the near-detector analysis introducing new selections and using more than double the data. Additionally, this is the first T2K oscillation analysis to use NA61/SHINE data on a replica of the T2K target to tune the neutrino flux model, and the neutrino interaction model was improved to include new nuclear effects and calculations. Frequentist and Bayesian analyses are presented, including results on $\sin^2\theta_{13}$ and the impact of priors on the $\delta_\mathrm{CP}$ measurement. Both analyses prefer the normal mass ordering and upper octant of $\sin^2\theta_{23}$ with a nearly maximally CP-violating phase. Assuming the normal ordering and using the constraint on $\sin^2\theta_{13}$ from reactors, $\sin^2\theta_{23}=0.561^{+0.021}_{-0.032}$ using Feldman--Cousins corrected intervals, and $\Delta{}m^2_{32}=2.494_{-0.058}^{+0.041}\times10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV^2}$ using constant $\Delta\chi^{2}$ intervals. The CP-violating phase is constrained to $\delta_\mathrm{CP}=-1.97_{-0.70}^{+0.97}$ using Feldman--Cousins corrected intervals, and $\delta_\mathrm{CP}=0,\pi$ is excluded at more than 90% confidence level. A Jarlskog invariant of zero is excluded at more than $2\sigma$ credible level using a flat prior in $\delta_\mathrm{CP}$, and just below $2\sigma$ using a flat prior in $\sin\delta_\mathrm{CP}$. When the external constraint on $\sin^2\theta_{13}$ is removed, $\sin^2\theta_{13}=28.0^{+2.8}_{-6.5}\times10^{-3}$, in agreement with measurements from reactor experiments. These results are consistent with previous T2K analyses.

Abstract:An analysis technique for isolating neutrino interactions on hydrogen, from a target containing a mixture of different nuclei, would provide numerous benefits. Namely, hydrogen is free of nuclear effects and enables better reconstruction of the neutrino energy spectra; key for neutrino oscillation experiments. Presented using Monte Carlo simulations of the ND280 near detector is the status of such a measurement on v-H resonance production by the T2K experiment.

Abstract:By taking advantage of symmetries with respect to the plane containing the directions of the neutrino and outgoing lepton, it is possible to isolate neutrino interactions on hydrogen in composite nuclear targets. This technique enables us to study the 'primary' neutrino-nucleon interaction and therefore gain access to fundamental model parameters free from nuclear effects. Using T2K Monte Carlo equivalent to ~ 7×1021 POT, we present an update on the measurement of the exclusive charged-current µ− , p, π + final state on hydrogen.

Abstract:Routine tritium operation in TFTR has permitted investigations of alpha particle physics in parameter ranges resembling those of a reactor core. ICRF wave physics in a DT plasma and the influence of isotopic mass on supershot confinement have also been studied. Continued progress has been made in optimizing fusion power production in TFTR, using extended machine capability and Li wall conditioning. Performance is currently limited by MHD stability. A new reversed magnetic shear regime is being investigated with reduced core transport and a higher predicted stability limit.

Abstract:The K2 mission will make use of the Kepler spacecraft and its assets to expand upon Kepler’s groundbreaking discoveries in the fields of exoplanets and astrophysics through new and exciting observations. K2 will use an innovative way of operating the spacecraft to observe target fields along the ecliptic for the next 2–3 years. Early science commissioning observations have shown an estimated photometric precision near 400 ppm in a single 30 minute observation, and a 6-hr photometric precision of 80 ppm (both at V = 12). The K2 mission offers long-term, simultaneous optical observation of thousands of objects at a precision far better than is achievable from ground-based telescopes. Ecliptic fields will be observed for approximately 75 days enabling a unique exoplanet survey which fills the gaps in duration and sensitivity between the Kepler and TESS missions, and offers pre-launch exoplanet target identification for JWST transit spectroscopy. Astrophysics observations with K2 will include studies of young open clusters, bright stars, galaxies, supernovae, and asteroseismology.

Abstract:We are emerging from a period of consolidation in particle physics. Its great, historic achievement was to establish the Theory of Matter. This Theory will serve as our description of ordinary matter under ordinary conditions – allowing for an extremely liberal definition of “ordinary” – for the foreseeable future. Yet there are many indications, ranging from the numerical to the semi-mystical, that a new fertile period lies before us. We will discover compelling evidence for the unification of fundamental forces and for new quantum dimensions (low-energy supersymmetry). We will identify new forms of matter, which dominate the mass density of the Universe. We will achieve much better fundamental understanding of the behavior of matter in extreme astrophysical and cosmological environments. Lying beyond these expectations, we can identify deep questions that seem to call for ideas outside our present grasp. And there’s still plenty of room for surprises.

Abstract:An upgrade of the near detector of the T2K long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment is currently being conducted. This upgrade will include two new Time Projection Chambers, each equipped with 16 charge readout resistive Micromegas modules. A procedure to validate the performance of the detectors at different stages of production has been developed and implemented to ensure a proper and reliable operation of the detectors once installed. A dedicated X-ray test bench is used to characterize the detectors by scanning each pad individually and to precisely measure the uniformity of the gain and the deposited energy resolution over the pad plane. An energy resolution of about 10% is obtained. A detailed physical model has been developed to describe the charge dispersion phenomena in the resistive Micromegas anode. The detailed physical description includes initial ionization, electron drift, diffusion effects and the readout electronics effects. The model provides an excellent characterization of the charge spreading of the experimental measurements and allowed the simultaneous extraction of gain and RC information of the modules.

Abstract:The Keda Torus eXperiment (KTX) is still operated in the commissioning phase, and preparation for the operation capability of the KTX phase II upgrade is underway. The diagnostics in the KTX have been greatly developed: (1) the terahertz interferometer has been upgraded to seven chords for electron density profile inversion; (2) a Thomson scattering system with a 5 Joule laser has been installed and commissioning is in progress; (3) a 3D movable probe system has been developed for the electromagnetic turbulence measurement; (4) double-foil soft x-ray imaging diagnostics have been set up and a bench test has been completed; (5) an edge capacitive probe has been installed for the radial electrical field measurement; (6) a multi-channel spectrograph system has been built for detecting impurities of carbon and oxygen. In addition, the design of a new compact torus injection system has been completed for feeding and momentum driving. Pilot research, such as the 3D reversed field pinch physics and electromagnetic turbulence, etc, have been conducted in the discharge status of the KTX. The 3D spectra characters of electromagnetic turbulence are firstly measured using a classical two-point technique by Langmuir probe arrays set on the 3D movable probe system and edge magnetic sensors. The forward scattering is collected by the interferometer system, which shows the potential for turbulence research. The electromagnetic turbulence is tentatively investigated in the KTX. The formation of a quasi-single-helicity state in the KTX regime is also preliminarily explored in simulation.

Abstract:Time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) theory has been a powerful tool in describing a variety of complex nuclear dynamics microscopically without empirical parameters. In this contribution, recent advances in nuclear dynamics studies with TDHF and its extensions are briefly reviewed, along the line with the study of multinucleon transfer (MNT) reactions. The latter lies at the core of this Research Topic, whose application for production of extremely neutron-rich nuclei has been extensively discussed in recent years. Having in mind the ongoing theoretical developments, it is envisaged how microscopic theories may contribute to the future MNT study.

The TOTEM nT2 detector: architecture, operation and performance

Abstract:The TOTEM experiment at the LHC has produced a large set of measurements on diffractive processes and pp cross sections. A new detector, called nT2, has been designed to measure the inelastic scattering rate during the LHC special run of 2023. Due to the high radiation environment, the detector had to be installed in 10-20 minutes at most, then commissioned and operated after only few days. The detector, based on plastic scintillators read out by matrices of SiPMs, was designed with such constraints in mind. The front-end, DAQ and control electronics was developed with a fault tolerant architecture, moving as many functionalities as possible on a radiation tolerant SoC FPGA, hosting an integrated ARM controller. Here we will describe the nT2 detector and its read-out and control electronics. The detector was successfully operated during the special run: we will report the preliminary results on the detector performance.

Abstract:Although the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) primary mission observed the northern and southern ecliptic hemispheres, generally avoiding the ecliptic, and the Kepler space telescope during the K2 mission could only observe near the ecliptic, many of the K2 fields extend far enough from the ecliptic plane that sections overlap with TESS fields. Using photometric observations from both K2 and TESS, combined with archival spectroscopic observations, we globally modeled four known planetary systems discovered by K2 that were observed in the first year of the primary TESS mission. Specifically, we provide updated ephemerides and system parameters for K2-114 b, K2-167 b, K2-237 b, and K2-261 b. These were some of the first K2 planets to be observed by TESS in the first year and include three Jovian sized planets and a sub-Neptune with orbital periods less than 12 days. In each case, the updated ephemeris significantly reduces the uncertainty in prediction of future times of transit, which is valuable for planning observations with the James Webb Space Telescope and other future facilities. The TESS extended mission is expected to observe about half of the K2 fields, providing the opportunity to perform this type of analysis on a larger number of systems.
