Abstract:Lattice QCD provides a promising method of addressing the elusive non-perturbative aspect of hadronic physics. It may be used in an investigation of underlying quark dynamics which is not based on model dependent calculations. The study of electromagnetic form factors allows a comparison of the predictions of the quark model and the Skyrme model with those of non-perturbative model independent approaches such as Lattice QCD and the QCD Sum Rule method. The first lattice calculations of electroma~etic form factors focussed on the electric form factor of the pion with SU(2) color [I]. These were later extended to SU(3) color [2]. Calculations of the electric form factor of the proton followed [3]. Most recently, both the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton and neutron were calculated [4]. Here the analysis of reference [4] is extended to calculate the electromagnetic form factors of the octet baryons. Electric and magnetic form factors have been calculated (from twoand three-point baryon correlation functions) on a quenched 24 x 12 x 12 x 24 lattice with p = 5.9. A small value of momentum transfer (I&X = 2x/24) was investigated for three values of quark mass (K = 0.152,0.154,0.156). nom these form factors, electric and magnetic charge radii, magnetic moments and magnetic transition moments have been extracted. More details of the method of calculation as outlined in reference j4] are provided in reference [5]. The results illustrate the manner in which quarks account for the electromagnetic structure of baryons. An outstanding problem of hadronic physics has been to explain the magnetic moments of baryons. In figure 1, we have collected recent results of alternative approaches to the strong interaction. The results of SU(6) symmetry, the sum rule approach [S], our lattice calculation, a recent quark model [7], and the Skyrme model [8] are compared to experimental ratios of magnetic moments. (The experimental and sum rule results for Co are obtained using the SU(2) relationship ~E:D = (PC+ + lc-)f2.) The quark model results differ significantly from those of the simple quark model only in the value of the Cmagnetic ratio which has been shifted from -0.391 to -0.505. The quark model (with four parameters) does not reproduce the magnetic moment ratios as well as the sum rule or lattice results. Only the N and A magnetic ratios are accurately reproduced. The Skyrme model (with two parameters) reverses the order of many of the SU(6) partners. The results of the sum rule approach (which has vacuum susceptibility parameters optimized to give the best agreement with experimental magnetic moments) are very similar to those of the lattice with the exception of the 2where non-perturbative and strange-quark mass effects are very large in the sum rule calculation.
Examination of the Strangeness Contribution to the Nucleon Magnetic Moment

Abstract:We examine the nucleon strangeness magnetic moment mu(s) with a lowest order meson cloud model. We observe that (1) strangeness in the nucleon is a natural requirement of the empirical relation mu(p)/mu(n)similar or equal to-3/2, which favors an SU(3) octet meson cloud instead of merely the SU(2) pions. (2) In a consistent perturbative calculation, the quark vertex contribution to mu(s) is divergently positive, the meson cloud contribution to mu(s) is divergently negative, and the sum is convergent and negative. (3) In the rest frame of the nucleon, mu(s) cannot be separated into a quark part and an antiquark part, neither can mu(s) be calculated via the spin and orbital angular momentum of the strange quarks and antiquarks. (4) While the overall sign of mu(s) is under debate, the spin part of mu(s) (which is related to the strange quark tensor charge) is better known to be negative.
Su(3) Breaking from Baryon-Meson Fluctuation in Baryon Magnetic Moments

Abstract:We investigate the effect of intrinsic sea quark-antiquark pairs on the magnetic moments of the SU(3) octet baryons. The intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs are introduced by a model of energetically-favoured non-perturbative baryon-meson fluctuations. It is shown that the baryon-meson fluctuation model provides a mechanism of SU(3) symmetry breaking in the baryon sea and is related to the violations of Gell-Mann-Okubo and Coleman-Glashow sum rules for the baryon magnetic moments. Such a model is also consistent with its explanation of the violations of Gottfried and Ellis-Jaffe sum rules in deep inelastic scattering.

Abstract:This work comprises the calculations of magnetic moments of $\frac{1}{2}^-$ baryon resonances in the presence of hot and dense hadronic matter. Using the chiral $SU(3)$ quark mean field model, we have taken into account the impact on in-medium scalar meson fields to investigate the density effects on the in-medium baryon masses and their constituent quarks. In light of chiral constituent quark model $\chi$CQM, we have calculated the magnetic moments of $\frac{1}{2}^-$ baryon resonances and scrutinized the explicit contributions coming from the valence quarks, sea quarks and the orbital angular momentum of sea quarks. The effective baryonic magnetic moments have been investigated for the varying values of isospin asymmetry and strangeness fraction.

Strange quark matter within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Abstract:Equation of state of baryon rich quark matter is studied within the SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavour mixing interaction. Possible bound states (strangelets) and chiral phase transitions in this matter are investigated at various values of strangeness fraction S/3B. The model predictions are very sensitive to the ratio of vector (Gv) and scalar (Gs) coupling constants. At Gv/Gs=0.5 and zero temperature the maximum binding energy (about 15 MeV per baryon) takes place when strangeness fraction is about 0.4. Such strangelets are negatively charged and have typical life times of the order of 100 ns. Calculations are carried out also at finite temperatures. They show that bound states exist up to temperatures of about 15 MeV. The model predicts a first order chiral phase transition at finite baryon densities. The parameters of this phase transition are calculated as function of strangeness fraction.

Abstract:The small mass difference m(n) - m(p) = 1.3 MeV between the proton and neutron leads to an excess of n = pi(-)p over p = pi(+)n fluctuations which can be calculated by using a light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model of intrinsic quark antiquark pairs of the nucleon sea. The Gottfried sum rule violation may partially be explained by isospin symmetry breaking between the proton and neutron and the same effect introduces correction terms to the anomalous magnetic moments and the anomalous weak magnetic moments of the proton and neutron. We also evaluated the strange magnetic moment of the nucleon from the lowest strangeness Kh fluctuation and found a non-trivial influence due to isospin symmetry breaking in the experimental measurements of the strange magnetic moment of the nucleon. The Strangeness Magnetic Moment of the Nucleon from FLIC Fermions

Abstract:By imposing the constraints of charge symmetry we show that the strangeness magnetic moment of the nucleon can be expressed in terms of empirical magnetic moments and ratios of valence quark magnetic moments. The latter are determined using modern chiral extrapolation techniques and recent low mass lattice QCD simulations of the individual quark contributions to the magnetic moments of the nucleon octet. The result is a precise determination of G_M^s, namely -0.043 +/- 0.026 mu_N, which is consistent with the latest experimental measurements.

Abstract:We present a lattice calculation of the Hadronic Vacuum Polarization (HVP) contribution of the strange and charm quarks to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon in isospin symmetric QCD. We employ the gauge configurations generated by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ flavors of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks at five lattice spacings and at values of the quark mass parameters that are close and/or include the isospin symmetric QCD point of interest. After computing the small corrections necessary to precisely match this point, and carrying out an extrapolation to the continuum limit based on the data at lattice spacings $a \simeq 0.049, 0.057, 0.068, 0.080$~fm and spatial lattice sizes up to $L \simeq 7.6$~fm, we obtain $a_\mu^{\rm HVP}(s) = (53.57 \pm 0.63) \times 10^{-10}$ and $a_\mu^{\rm HVP}(c) = (14.56 \pm 0.13) \times 10^{-10}$, for the quark-connected strange and charm contributions, respectively. Our findings agree well with the corresponding results by other lattice groups.

Abstract:In the present work we study the masses and magnetic moments of decuplet baryons in isospin asymmetric strange hadronic medium at finite temperature using chiral SU(3) quark mean field model. In the strange isospin asymmetric medium, the properties of baryons in chiral SU(3) mean field model are modified through the exchange of scalar fields , and and the vector fields , and . The scalar-isovector field and the vector-isovector field signifies the finite isospin asymmetry of the medium. We calculate the in-medium constituent quark masses and masses of decuplet baryons in asymmetric strange matter within the chiral SU(3) quark mean field model and use these as input in the constituent chiral quark model to calculate the in-medium magnetic moments of decuplet baryons for different values of isospin asymmetry and strangeness fraction of hot and dense medium. For calculating the magnetic moments of baryons, contributions of valence quarks, quark sea and orbital angular momentum of quark sea are considered in the calculations.

Abstract:In this paper we present Morphy, an integrated tool for German morphology, part-of-speech tagging and context-sensitive lemmatization. Its large lexicon of more than 320,000 word forms plus its ability to process German compound nouns guarantee a wide morphological coverage. Syntactic ambiguities can be resolved with a standard statistical part-of-speech tagger. By using the output of the tagger, the lemmatizer can determine the correct root even for ambiguous word forms. The complete package is freely available and can be downloaded from the World Wide Web.

Abstract:We study the magnetized strangelets in the baryon density-dependent quark mass model, including the effects of both confinement and lead-order perturbation interactions. The properties of magnetized strangelets are investigated under the the field strength 2*10^17 G, where the anisotropy caused by the strong magnetic field is insignificant can be treated approximately as an isotropic system. The consideration of anomalous magnetic moments in the energy spectrum naturally solves the difficulty of infrared divergence encountered in integrating the density of states. The Coulomb interaction is accounted for a self-consistent treatment. The energy per baryon, mechanically stable radius, strangeness and electric charge of magnetized strangelets are presented, where their dependence on the field strength and parameter of confinement and perturbation are investigated.

Abstract:Within a rather general framework for confined quarks in a baryon, we derive an approximate expression for the effective quark masses and quark magnetic moments. Use of the additive quark model with the spin-flavor SU(6) wave functions may be justified for the relativistic quarks and lead to a good agreement between theory and experiment for the baryon magnetic moments.

Abstract:Perturbation theory predicts that a massless fermion cannot possess a measurable magnetic moment. We explain, however, that the nonperturbative phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking generates a momentum-dependent anomalous chromomagnetic moment for dressed light-quarks, which is large at infrared momenta; and demonstrate that consequently these same quarks also possess an anomalous electromagnetic moment with similar magnitude and opposite sign.

Abstract:Motivated by the discovery of hidden-charm strange pentaquarks, we conduct a systematic study of the magnetic moments of the hidden-bottom strange pentaquarks in molecular picture. We calculate magnetic moments of hidden-bottom strange pentaquarks with strangeness-1 and 2. Magnetic moment gives valuable information about the inner structure and shape of the hadron. The obtained results may be helpful to determine the inner structure of these new yet hypothetical states.

What Do We Know about the Strange Magnetic Radius?

Abstract:We analyze the q(2)-dependence of the strange magnetic form factor, G(M)((s)) (q(2)), using heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBchiPT) and dispersion relations. We find that in HBchiPT a significant cancellation occurs between the O(p(3)) and O(p(4)) loop contributions. Consequently, the slope of G(M)((s)) low M at the origin displays an enhanced sensitivity to an unknown O(p(4)) low-energy constant. Using dispersion theory, we estimate the magnitude of this constant, show that it may have a natural size, and conclude that the low-q(2) behavior of G(M)((s)) could be dominated by non-perturbative physics. We also discuss the implications for the interpretation of parity-violating electron scattering measurements used to measure G(M)((s))(q(2)). (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
Nonperturbative strange-quark sea from lattice QCD, light-front holography, and meson-baryon fluctuation models

Abstract:We demonstrate that a nonzero strangeness contribution to the spacelike electromagnetic form factor of the nucleon is evidence for a strange-antistrange asymmetry in the nucleon's light-front wave function, thus implying different nonperturbative contributions to the strange and antistrange quark distribution functions. A recent lattice QCD calculation of the nucleon strange quark form factor predicts that the strange quark distribution is more centralized in coordinate space than the antistrange quark distribution, and thus the strange quark distribution is more spread out in light-front momentum space. We show that the lattice prediction implies that the difference between the strange and antistrange parton distribution functions, s(x) - (s) over bar (x), is negative at small-x and positive at large-x. We also evaluate the strange quark form factor and s(x) - (s) over bar (x) using a baryon-meson fluctuation model and a novel nonperturbative model based on light-front holographic QCD. This procedure leads to a Veneziano-like expression of the form factor, which depends exclusively on the twist of the hadron and the properties of the Regge trajectory of the vector meson which couples to the quark current in the hadron. The holographic structure of the model allows us to introduce unambiguously quark masses in the form factors and quark distributions preserving the hard scattering counting rule at large-Q(2) and the inclusive counting rule at large-x. Quark masses modify the Regge intercept which governs the small-x behavior of quark distributions, therefore modifying their small-x singular behavior. Both nonperturbative approaches provide descriptions of the strange-antistrange asymmetry and intrinsic strangeness in the nucleon consistent with the lattice QCD result.

Abstract:Treating the strange quark mass as a heavy scale compared to the light quark mass, we perform a matching of the nucleon mass in the SU(3) sector to the two-flavor case in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. The validity of the 19 low-energy constants appearing in the octet baryon masses up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order [1] is supported by comparing the effective parameters (the combinations of the 19 couplings) with the corresponding low-energy constants in the SU(2) sector [2]. In addition, it is shown that the dependence of the effective parameters and the pion-nucleon sigma term on the strange quark mass is relatively weak around its physical value, thus providing support to the assumption made in Ref. [2] that the SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory can be applied to study nf=2+1 lattice QCD simulations as long as the strange quark mass is close to its physical value.
Stranger Still: Kaon Loops and Strange Quark Matrix Elements of the Nucleon

Abstract:Intrinsic strangeness contributions to low-energy strange quark matrix elements of the nucleon are modelled using kaon loops and meson-nucleon vertex functions taken from nucleon-nucleon and nucleon-hyperon scattering. A comparison with pion loop contributions to the nucleon electromagnetic (EM) form factors indicates the presence of significant SU(3)-breaking in the mean-square charge radii. As a numerical consequence, the kaon loop contribution to the mean square Dirac strangeness radius is significantly smaller than could be observed with parity-violating elastic ep experiments planned for CEBAF, while the contribution to the Sachs radius is large enough to be observed with PV electron scattering from (0^+,0) nuclei. Kaon loops generate a strange magnetic moment of the same scale as the isoscalar EM magnetic moment and a strange axial vector form factor having roughly one-third magnitude extracted from nu p/nubar p elastic scattering. In the chiral limit, the loop contribution to the fraction of the nucleon's scalar density arising from strange quarks has roughly the same magnitude as the value extracted from analyses of Sigma_{\pi N}. The importance of satisfying the Ward-Takahashi Identity, not obeyed by previous calculations, is also illustrated, and the sensitivity of results to input parameters is analyzed.
