Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite solvable group. We prove that if $\chi\in{\rm Irr}(G)$ has odd degree and $\chi(1)$ is the minimal degree of the non-linear irreducible characters of $G$, then $G/{\rm Ker} \chi$ is nilpotent-by-abelian.

Abstract:In this article, by studying the Bernstein degrees and Goldie rank polynomials, we establish a comparison between the irreducible representations of G = GL n （C） possessing the minimal Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and those induced from finite-dimensional representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G of type（n-1, 1）. We give the transition matrix between the two bases for the corresponding coherent families.

Abstract:For an irreducible complex character $\chi$ of a finite group $G$, the codegree of $\chi$ is defined by $|G:\ker(\chi)|/\chi(1)$, where $\ker(\chi)$ is the kernel of $\chi$. Given a prime $p$, we provide a classification of finite groups in which every irreducible complex character has either $p'$-degree or $p'$-codegree.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group and let be an irreducible character of G. The number is called the codegree of the character . We provide several relations between the structure of G and the codegrees of the characters in a given subset of , where is the set of all complex irreducible characters of G. For example, we show that if the codegrees of all strongly monolithic characters of G are odd, then G is solvable, analogous to the well-known fact that if all irreducible character degrees of a finite group are odd, then that group is solvable.

Abstract:We determine the decomposition of cyclic characters of alternating groups into irreducible characters. As an application, we characterize pairs $(w, V)$, where $w\in A_n$ and $V$ is an irreducible representation of $A_n$ such that $w$ admits a non-zero invariant vector in $V$. We also establish new global conjugacy classes for alternating groups, thereby giving a new proof of a result of Heide and Zalessky on the existence of such classes.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple classical algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $K$ of characteristic $p \ge 0$ with natural module $W$. Let $H$ be a closed subgroup of $G$ and let $V$ be a non-trivial irreducible tensor-indecomposable $p$-restricted rational $KG$-module such that the restriction of $V$ to $H$ is irreducible. In this paper we classify all such triples $(G,H,V)$, where $H$ is a maximal closed disconnected positive-dimensional subgroup of $G$, and $H$ preserves a natural geometric structure on $W$.

Abstract: In this paper, we will develop more character varieties for a finite group $G$ by generalizing original character theory of Frobenius to good partition algebras. In the view of this generalization theory, we will reformulate the refined McKay conjecture and part of Navarro' conjecture on degrees of irreducible characters into a new general conjecture in the form of equality of polynomials. We will define the Frobenius polynomial, degree polynomial and prove that the ordinary character table of $G$ is equivalent to the Frobenius polynomial of the center of $FG$. We find a new series of invariants $p_{ijl}$ for a finite group. As an application of this new invariants, we prove that the normal series of a finite pure perfect group is determined by the lengths of its conjugate classes.

Abstract:A $G$-kernel is a group homomorphism from a group $G$ to the outer automorphism group of a C$^*$-algebra. Inspired by recent work of Evington and Girón Pacheco in the stably finite case, we introduce a new invariant of a $G$-kernel using $K$-theory, and deduce several new constraints of the obstruction classes of $G$-kernels in the purely infinite case. We classify $\mathbb{Z}^n$-kernels for strongly self-absorbing Kirchberg algebras in the bootstrap category in terms of our new invariant and the Dadarlat-Pennig theory of continuous fields of strongly self-absorbing C$^*$-algebras.

Abstract:An irreducible character $\chi$ of an association scheme is called nonlinear if the multiplicity of $\chi$ is greater than $1$. The main result of this paper gives a characterization of commutative association schemes with at most two nonlinear irreducible characters. This yields a characterization of finite groups with at most two nonlinear irreducible characters. A class of noncommutative association schemes with at most two nonlinear irreducible character is also given.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group, and let $\text{Irr}(G)$ denote the set of the irreducible complex characters of $G$. An element $g\in G$ is called a vanishing element of $G$ if there exists $\chi\in\text{Irr}(G)$ such that $\chi(g)=0$ (i.e., $g$ is a zero of $\chi$) and, in this case, the conjugacy class $g^G$ of $g$ in $G$ is called a vanishing conjugacy class. In this paper we consider several problems concerning vanishing elements and vanishing conjugacy classes; in particular, we consider the problem of determining the least number of conjugacy classes of a finite group $G$ such that every non-linear $\chi\in\text{Irr}(G)$ vanishes on one of them. We also consider the related problem of determining the minimum number of non-linear irreducible characters of a group such that two of them have a common zero.

Abstract:Let N be a normal subgroup of a finite group G and consider the set cd(G|N) of degrees of irreducible characters of G whose kernels do not contain N. A number of theorems are proved relating the set cd(G|N) to the structure of N. For example, if N is solvable, its derived length is bounded above by a function of |cd(G|N)|. Also, if |cd(G|N)| is at most 2, then N is solvable and its derived length is at most |cd(G|N)|. If G is solvable and |cd(G|N)| = 3, then the derived length of N is at most 3.

Abstract:Quadratic groups, whose definitions depend on form parameters, contain the orthogonal groups, symplectic groups, classical unitary groups and all the classical groups of Dieudonne [4] as well as those of Bruhat and Tits [2].
