Abstract:Vehicular communications have attracted more and more attention recently from both industry and academia due to its strong potential to enhance road safety, improve traffic efficiency, and provide rich on-board information and entertainment services. In this paper, we discuss fundamental physical layer issues that enable efficient vehicular communications and present a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art research. We first introduce vehicular channel characteristics and modeling, which are the key underlying features differentiating vehicular communications from other types of wireless systems. We then present schemes to estimate the time-varying vehicular channels and various modulation techniques to deal with high-mobility channels. After reviewing resource allocation for vehicular communications, we discuss the potential to enable vehicular communications over the millimeter wave bands. Finally, we identify the challenges and opportunities associated with vehicular communications.

Abstract:Recent years have witnessed numerous technical breakthroughs in electronics, computing, sensing, robotics, control, signal processing, and communications. These have significantly advanced the state of applications of intelligent transportation systems. More recently, as one leading effort toward the cyber-physical-social system, the concept of intelligent transportation spaces was proposed to further improve the vehicles, traffic, and transportation safety, efficiency and sustainability. ITSp integrate not only various ITS modules, but also pedestrians, vehicles, roadside infrastructures, traffic management centers, sensors, and satellites. With distributed and pervasive intelligence, ITSp clearly impose some stringent requirements on the information exchange among all entities within the ITSp, in terms of the information availability, reliability, fidelity, and timeliness. These requirements, together with the high mobility of vehicles and the highly variable network topology, make the communications and networking for ITSp very challenging. This article will introduce the concept of ITSp and analyze possible communication technology candidates for ITSp. Further discussions will also be provided at the end of this article.

Abstract:Vehicular Ad-hoc network is a subclass of mobile Ad-hoc network (MANET), which provides a distinguished approach for the intelligent transport system (ITS). A dedicated short range of communication is a processing IEEE 802.11 based wireless technology that enables advanced active vehicle safety among other applications. A secure MAC protocol for VANET, with different message priorities for different types of application to access DSRC channels. The aim of the VANET is to enable dissemination of traffic information and road conditions as detected by independently moving vehicles. Dissemination of data is used to improve the quality of driving in terms of time, distance and safety. The proposed protocol provides wireless Ad-hoc and multihop communication using geographical position for addressing and packet forwarding. This protocol scheme is enhanced by safety application in vehicular environment.

Abstract:Vehicular ad hoc networking is an emerging technology for future on-the-road communications. Due to the virtue of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are expected to enable a plethora of communication-based automotive applications including diverse in-vehicle infotainment applications and road safety services. Even though vehicles are organized mostly in an ad hoc manner in the network topology, directly applying the existing communication approaches designed for traditional mobile ad hoc networks to large-scale VANETs with fast-moving vehicles can be ineffective and inefficient. To achieve success in a vehicular environment, VANET-specific communication solutions are imperative. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of various radio channel access protocols and resource management approaches, and discuss their suitability for infotainment and safety service support in VANETs. Further, we present recent research activities and related projects on vehicular communications. Potential challenges and open research issues are also discussed.

Abstract:Vehicular ad hoc networks ( VANETs ) and the services they support are an essential part of intelligent transportation. Through physical technologies, applications, protocols, and standards, they help to ensure traffic moves efficiently and vehicles operate safely. This article surveys the current state of play in VANETs development. The summarized and classified include the key technologies critical to the field, the resource-management and safety applications needed for smooth operations, the communications and data transmission protocols that support networking, and the theoretical and environmental constructs underpinning research and development, such as graph neural networks and the Internet of Things. Additionally, we identify and discuss several challenges facing VANETs, including poor safety, poor reliability, non-uniform standards, and low intelligence levels. Finally, we touch on hot technologies and techniques, such as reinforcement learning and 5G communications, to provide an outlook for the future of intelligent transportation systems.

Abstract:With the emergence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and wireless embedded sensing devices into modern vehicles, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) becomes a reality and an indispensable component of smart cities. The purpose of ITS is to improve road safety and traffic efficiency as well as offering infotainments services. In fact, warning drivers in the right time about dangerous situations on the road and providing them with prior information about traffic will undoubtedly leads to enhance driver's safety and reduce traffic congestion. Technically speaking, ITS is based on self-organizing wireless networks, known as vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). Mobile vehicles in VANET might play the role of stationary sensors in infrastructure-based networks. They can detect, gather and disseminate real-time data about traffic, driving conditions and potential hazards on roads. In this respect, we review in this study, recent developments on the design of VANET protocols and applications. We first introduce the architecture of VANETs then we review their unique characteristics and applications. Thereafter, we discuss the main research challenges and open issues to be considered for designing efficient and a cost-effective VANET protocols and applications.

Abstract:Today, with the development of intercity and metropolitan roadways and with various cars moving in various directions, there is a greater need than ever for a network to coordinate commutes. Nowadays, people spend a lot of time in their vehicles. Smart automobiles have developed to make that time safer, more effective, more fun, pollution-free, and affordable. However, maintaining the optimum use of resources and addressing rising needs continues to be a challenge given the popularity of vehicle users and the growing diversity of requests for various services. As a result, VANET will require modernized working practices in the future. Modern intelligent transportation management and driver assistance systems are created using cutting-edge communication technology. Vehicular Ad-hoc networks promise to increase transportation effectiveness, accident prevention, and pedestrian comfort by allowing automobiles and road infrastructure to communicate entertainment and traffic information. By constructing thorough frameworks, workflow patterns, and update procedures, including block-chain, artificial intelligence, and SDN (Software Defined Networking), this paper addresses VANET-related technologies, future advances, and related challenges. An overview of the VANET upgrade solution is given in this document in order to handle potential future problems.

Abstract:This article discusses the current status and review of innovations in traffic management, as well as future developments. Automotive radar has evolved from the first studies in this direction to future systems. The future of fossil and other fuels in the automotive industry, reuse of automotive software, from changes in product management software to trend analysis and survivability systems in Simulink vehicle models, turning data-driven green space into the electrification of the future and automotive systems. A secure e-architecture framework is mentioned. Agricultural machinery design information according to ISO 11783 is specified. Including security-oriented development and ISO 26262. At the C-ITS and security conference, smart transportation cooperation, vehicle connectivity and security, V2X security, smart transportation and software topics were introduced. The article concludes with a discussion of future trends of electric vehicles powered by network connectivity, solar power, and battery technology, as well as new technologies, future models, and issues in today's automobile design. Abstract:Nowadays, advanced communication technologies are being utilized to develop intelligent transportation management and driving assistance. Through the ability to exchange traffic and infotainment information between road infrastructure and vehicles, vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) promise to improve transport efficiency, accident prevention, and pedestrians comfort. The deployment of VANETs in the real world is based on the message's correctness and timely delivery and assuredness of privacy protection and data security. In this regard, many researchers have conducted surveys and studies that present models and solutions related to the improvement of VANET from different aspects such as architectural design, networking, and data security. Motivated by these influences, this study presents a detailed survey of VANETs to provide a complete picture of particular VANET applications, networking, and challenges. None of them collected all data in one survey. VANET communication techniques and their improvements are the focus of this study. The contributions of this paper are as follows. First, a complete taxonomy of VANET wireless access techniques has been provided based on various parameters. Second, a detailed discussion and classification VANET services and applications are provided. Third, the challenges related to VANET according to the applicability area, data networking, and resource management are explored in detail. Based on this classification, a complete description of the challenges for each category, including the proposed solutions and development models, is provided to overcome such challenges. Finally, the integration of evolutionary technologies with VANET is comprehensively presented. In this regard, a thorough explanation is provided for each technology, including the challenges, solutions, and suggestions for further improvements. This study enables various users working in the vehicular networking domain to select one of the pro- osals based on its relative advantages.

This special issue on Vehicular Networking Protocols technologies highlights new trends on networking protocols and their issues, further focusing on the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer and Physical (PHY) layer challenges. It also underlines on algorithms and protocols for data aggregation and group-based networking in vehicular networks.
