Abstract:Nanoparticles of silver nitrate (AgNO 3 NPs) have been incorporated into a blend of sodium alginate (NaAlg) and polyethylene oxide (PEO) to improve its structural, optical, dielectric, and electrical characteristics for use in energy storage systems. To achieve this, AgNO 3 NPs were evenly distributed within the polymer matrix to create nanocomposite films through the solution casting technique. These films underwent thorough examination using various analytical tools, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV/visible spectroscopy, and impedance analyzers. The XRD analysis indicated that the incorporation of AgNO 3 NPs into the NaAlg/PEO blend leads to reduce in the crystallinity degree of the nanocomposites to the 17.27 % at higher content of the nanoparticles. Examination of FT-IR spectra showed significant peaks corresponding to vibrational groups, which varied with the AgNO 3 NPs content. As the concentration of AgNO 3 NPs increased, there were notable changes in UV/visible absorbance, optical bandgap energies, and refractive indices of the nanocomposites. The pure blend direct and indirect band gaps were equal to 4.84 and 4.39 eV and can be adjusted by AgNO 3 NPs content. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the NaAlg/PEO-AgNO 3 films displayed a photoemission peak approximately at 500 nm. As the concentration of AgNO 3 within the PEO/NaAlg-matrix rises, there is a noticeable decrease in the peak's intensity and an expansion in its breadth. This phenomenon is attributed to the introduction of defects and subsequent disorder within the polymer matrix. Furthermore, impedance spectroscopy revealed that higher levels of AgNO 3 NPs enhance the AC conductivity, dielectric loss, and dielectric constant of the composites. These findings underscore the viability of using these nanocomposites in optoelectronic devices and for capacitive energy storage applications.
