Abstract:Continuous exploration on durable solar cells with cobalt redox electrolyte under thermal and light dual stress is a decisive issue for practical application. Herein, the coplanar aromatic polycycles 4H-benzo [1,10]phenanthro [4,3-b]thiophene (BPT) is designed via the π-extension of anthracene unit. Further, the kernel π-conjugation BPT is decorated with bis(4-(hexyloxy)phenyl)amine ancillary electron-donor and conjugated with electron-acceptors benzoic acid (BA), benzothiadiazol-benzoic acid (BTBA), benzothiadiazol-ylethynyl-benzoic acid (BTEBA), and cyanoacrylic acid (CA) to prepare donor−acceptor organic dyes HW5, HW6, HW7, and HW8, respectively. Density functional theory calculation reveals that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels of BA-based dye HW5, HW6 and HW7 inherited from their electron-donor DPA-BPT, except for HW8. The kinetic traces of femtosecond fluorescence and transient absorption measurements of DSSCs imply that the BA-based dyes HW5, HW6 and HW7 exhibit efficient charge-separation yields, but poor for CA-based dye HW8. In conjunction with a cobalt electrolyte, the dyes with CA, BTBA, BTEBA as electron-acceptors display preeminent retention rates for the first time, after 1000 h aging test under the soaking of full sunlight at 60 °C.
