Abstract:By 2050, the global population of individuals aged 60 years and above is expected to reach 2.1 billion, surpassing the 2017 estimate of 962 million, marking a significant increase. [ 1 , 2 ] As the number of older populations continue to rise, the global prevalence of cognitive impairment among adults is also expected to increase in tandem. Countries such as Japan, China, and Singapore have experienced a significant increase in dementia incidence rates from 1990 to 2019, leading to substantial economic and care giving burdens. [ 3 ] The global socioeconomic cost of dementia is projected to rise from 2 trillion by 2030. [ 4 ] The World Health Organization (2019) emphasized the importance of developing targeted interventions to prevent, reduce the risk of, or delay cognitive decline and decrease the incidence of dementia.
