Abstract:Background: Electroencephalogram (EEG), one of the most commonly used non-invasive neurophysiological examination techniques, advanced rapidly between 2005 and 2022, particularly when it was used for the diagnosis and prognosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This study used a bibliometric approach to synthesize the knowledge structure and cutting-edge hotspots of EEG application in the MCI. Methods: Related publications in the Web of Science Core Collection (WosCC) were retrieved from inception to 30 September 2022. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and HistCite software were employed to perform bibliographic and visualization analyses. Results: Between 2005 and 2022, 2,905 studies related to the application of EEG in MCI were investigated. The United States had the highest number of publications and was at the top of the list of international collaborations. In terms of total number of articles, IRCCS San Raffaele Pisana ranked first among institutions. The Clinical Neurophysiology published the greatest number of articles. The author with the highest citations was Babiloni C. In descending order of frequency, keywords with the highest frequency were "EEG," "mild cognitive impairment," and "Alzheimer's disease". Conclusion: The application of EEG in MCI was investigated using bibliographic analysis. The research emphasis has shifted from examining local brain lesions with EEG to neural network mechanisms. The paradigm of big data and intelligent analysis is becoming more relevant in EEG analytical methods. The use of EEG to link MCI to other related neurological disorders, and to evaluate new targets for diagnosis and treatment, has become a new research trend. The above-mentioned findings have implications in the future research on the application of EEG in MCI.

Abstract:Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a precursor to dementia, and neuroinflammation in the brain is thought to be one of the main pathogenic mechanisms of MCI. However, the underlying neurobiological mechanisms have not been fully explored. The purpose of this study was to establish a visual model map of the articles in the field of neuroinflammation-induced MCI over the past 11 years to reveal the research hotspots and predict the future development trends in this field, which will help to promote the research and development for MCI. Methods: The "neuroinflammation" and "mild cognitive impairment" were used as search terms, and literature about neuroinflammation-induced MCI published between 2011 and 2021 was collected from the Web of Science. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to create visual model maps, and assess collaboration among different authors, countries, and institutions. Finally, the current research hotspots and future research directions were analyzed by using high-frequency keywords analysis and co-cited reference burst analysis. Results: A total of 226 articles were retrieved. The number of publications in neuroinflammation-induced MCI shows an upward trend. Since 2018, the number of papers published in this field has increased significantly, with an average of more than 100 published each year. The United States had the highest literature production and the number of cited journals in this research area, and the National Institute on Aging was the most productive research institution. Brooks D.J. and Heneka M.T. had the highest number of publications and had the highest frequency of co-citations. The co-cited references revealed the evolution of the research themes, and the current studies are mainly focused on the effects of various metabolites on the control of microglial activation. "Cerebrospinal fluid," "mouse model," "tau," "microglial activation," "astrocytes," and "TREM2" were the current high-frequency and emerging keywords. Conclusion: Research on neuroinflammation-induced MCI is burgeoning, and the close collaboration with different nations and institutions need to be further strengthened. Current research hotspots are focused on the effects of various metabolites on microglia activation. Future studies should focus on how to regulate the phenotypes of microglia and astrocyte to reduce neuroinflammation and treat MCI.

Abstract:Background. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI), an intermediate stage between normal aging and dementia, has emerged as a prominent research area in geriatric care due to its heightened propensity for progressing toward dementia. Sleep plays a pivotal role in cognitive function, with dyssomnias not only exacerbating cognitive and affective symptoms associated with neurodegenerative diseases but also contributing to disease progression. Aim. This bibliometric analysis investigates the global research on MCI with dyssomnias over the past two decades, aiming to discern key findings, research domains, and emerging trends in this field. Methods. In this study, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using the search terms “MCI” and “sleep”. Data were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and visualization and collaborative analysis were performed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Results. This study encompassed 546 publications from 2003 to 2023. The publication volume and citation rate consistently increased over time. Neurosciences, Clinical Neurology, and Geriatrics Gerontology emerged as the top three research fields. The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease had the highest publication count, while Sleep Medicine received the most citations. USA, China, and Italy led in publication output. Collaborative clusters among authors and institutions were identified, but cooperation between clusters was limited. Active cocited reference clusters included “obstructive sleep apnea”, “possible mediating pathways”, and “isolated rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder”. The top frequently mentioned keywords, besides “MCI”, were “Alzheimer’s disease”, “dementia”, “risk factor”, and “Parkinson’s Disease”. Notable keyword clusters spanned circadian rhythm, Parkinson’s disease, MCI, dementia with Lewy body, subjective cognitive impairment, Lewy body disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and dietary patterns. Conclusion. The field of MCI with dyssomnias is rapidly expanding, encompassing a wide range of neurodegenerative disorders and sleep disturbances. Current research endeavors are primarily focused on elucidating the underlying pathogenesis, predicting disease progression, and developing innovative treatment strategies for individuals affected by MCI with dyssomnias.

Abstract:Background: Exercise interventions for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have been extensively studied. However, there is no bibliometric study on exercise interventions for MCI. This study aimed to identify the collaborative networks, research hotspots, evolution trends, and future directions. Methods: Relevant documents were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. VOSviewer was used to analyze the co-authorship of the author, countries and institutions, and the keywords co-occurrence. CiteSpace was used to detect burst keywords' research trends. Results: A total of 569 articles were included and showed an overall increasing trend in annual publications. The most influential subject categories, authors, journals, country, and institutions were "geriatrics gerontology," "Doi, Takehiko and Shimada, Hiroyuki," "Journal of Alzheimer's Disease," USA, and "Veterans Health Administration," respectively. The research hotspots are "effectiveness," "neural mechanism" and "correlation" of exercise interventions, and the emerging trend is "intervention quality." Conclusion: This area is in a rapid development phase, whereby research hotpots are focused and the research trend is clear. The highly productive authors and institutions have made outstanding contributions and the subject categories present an interdisciplinary trend. However, there is weak cooperation between countries and institutions, and a substantial research gap exists between developed and developing countries. Future research may highlight the intervention quality, emphasizing the combination with virtual reality technology.
Research hotspots and nursing inspiration in research of older adults with subjective cognitive decline from 2003 to 2023: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Objectives: There has been a significant increase in subjective cognitive decline (SCD) studies in older adults over the years. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to demonstrate the current hotspots and emerging trends in SCD research in older adults and provide references for further research in this field. Methods: The study conducted a bibliometric analysis based on co-citation analysis. From the Web of Science Core Collection database, this study obtained 1,436 manuscripts regarding SCD in older adults published from 2003 to 2023. Software CiteSpace was used to analyse the results for countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, top-cited papers, and burst citations scientifically and intuitively. Results: Our result showed an overall upward trend in the volume of publications on SCD in the elderly population, suggesting that the study of SCD in older adults has attracted the attention of researchers. The United States dominates this research field, followed by China and France. The top three institutions were the University of California System, Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale (Inserm), and UDICE-French Research Universities. Frank Jessen, Han Ying, and Kathryn Ellis were the top three researchers. The top three cited journals were Neurology, Alzheimers & Dementia, and Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. The keywords clustering were "depression", "functional connectivity", "cognitive reserve", "cognitive function", "physical activity", "recommendations", "dementia prevention", " behavioral disorders", "primary care", "early diagnosis", and "community-based study". Keywords with the highest citation bursts include "physical activity", "framework", "preclinical Alzheimer's disease", "future dementia", and "late life depression". Conclusions: Parallel to the growth trend, the range of research scopes and topics is expanding steadily, focusing on early screening and prevention, negative emotion, and symptom management, broadening researchers' perspectives, which can provide reference and guidance for nursing researchers to conduct research.

Abstract:Background: In recent years, the problem of cognitive impairment in the elderly has become increasingly prominent. Understanding the research trend of influencing factors of mild cognitive impairment, and provide reference for medical staff to early screening of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment. Objective: Through the visual analysis of the influence factors of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment, the current research status was discussed. Methods: The relevant literature in the field of influencing factors of mild cognitive impairment in the elderly included in the Web of Science core collection database from 2013 to 2022 was searched. Using software such as Cite Space and VOS viewer to visually analyze literature citations, country, keywords, and development trends. Results: A total of 547 relevant literatures were included, and the number of publications showed an increasing trend in the past ten years. The United States ranked first in both the number of published papers (157) and centrality (0.34), and the United States and China had a greater influence on the influencing factors of mild cognitive impairment. Alzheimer's disease, cognitive decline, the elderly, risk factors, are the research hotspot in this field. Conclusion: Cognitive decline will affect the autonomy of the elderly. Cognitive frailty, MRI is the forefront of MCI research, to understand the research hotspots and frontiers in this field, to conduct early screening and intervention guidance for people with mild cognitive impairment, so as to delay the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease, and reduce the pressure on family caregivers and society.

Abstract:Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is commonly defined as a transitional subclinical state between normal aging and dementia. A growing body of research indicates that health behaviors may play a protective role against cognitive decline and could potentially slow down the progression from MCI to dementia. The aim of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of literature focusing on health behaviors and MCI to summarize the factors and evidence regarding the influence of health behaviors on MCI. Methods: The study performed a bibliometric analysis by retrieving publications from the Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index sub-databases within the Web of Science Core Collection. Utilizing VOSviewer and CiteSpace software, a total of 2,843 eligible articles underwent co-citation, co-keywords, and clustering analyses. This methodology aimed to investigate the current status, trends, major research questions, and potential future directions within the research domain. Results: The bibliometric analysis indicates that research on healthy behaviors in individuals with MCI originated in 2002 and experienced rapid growth in 2014, reflecting the increasing global interest in this area. The United States emerged as the primary contributor, accounting for more than one-third of the total scientific output with 982 articles. Journals that published the most articles on MCI-related health behaviors included "Journal of Alzheimer's Disease," "Neurobiology of Aging," "Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience," and other geriatrics-related journals. High-impact papers identified by VOSviewer predominantly cover concepts related to MCI, such as diagnostic criteria, assessment, and multifactorial interventions. Co-occurrence keyword analysis highlights five research hotspots in health behavior associated with MCI: exercise, diet, risk factors and preventive measures for dementia, cognitive decline-related biomarkers, and clinical trials. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive review of literature on health behavior in individuals with MCI, emphasizing influential documents and journals. It outlines research trends and key focal points, offering valuable insights for researchers to comprehend significant contributions and steer future studies.

Abstract:Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a common neurodegenerative disorder that poses a risk of progression to dementia. There is growing research interest in body–mind exercise (BME) for patients with MCI. While we have observed a rapid growth in interest in BME for MCI over the past 10 years, no bibliometric analysis has investigated the knowledge structure and research trends in this field. Consequently, the objective of this research is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of global publications of BME for MCI from 2013 to 2022. Methods: A total of 242 publications in the field of BME for MCI were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis, including performance analysis, science mapping, and visualization, was performed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel. Results: Publications and citations in the field of BME for MCI have shown a rapidly increasing trend over the last decade. Geriatrics & Gerontology, and Neurosciences were the most frequently involved research categories. China (78 documents) and the USA (75 documents) contributed to the largest number of publications and had the strongest international collaborative networks. Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine contributed to the largest number of publications (12 documents), and Chen, L of this institution was the most prolific author (12 documents). Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience (16 documents), and JOURNAL OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE (12 documents) were the most prolific journals. Tai Chi and Baduanjin, as specific types of BME, were the hotspots of research in this field, while evidence synthesis and guidelines might be future research trends. Conclusion: In the last decade, there has been a rapid growth in scientific activities in the field of BME for MCI. The results of this study provide researchers and other stakeholders with knowledge structure, hotspots, and future research trends in this field.

Abstract:Background: With the development of quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), an increasing number of studies have been published on the clinical use of QEEG in the past two decades, particularly in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of neuropsychiatric disorders. However, to date, the current status and developing trends of this research field have not been systematically analyzed from a macroscopic perspective. The present study aimed to identify the hot spots, knowledge base, and frontiers of QEEG research in neuropsychiatric disorders from 2000 to 2021 through bibliometric analysis. Methods: QEEG-related publications in the neuropsychiatric field from 2000 to 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). CiteSpace and VOSviewer software programs, and the online literature analysis platform (bibliometric.com) were employed to perform bibliographic and visualized analysis. Results: A total of 1,904 publications between 2000 and 2021 were retrieved. The number of QEEG-related publications in neuropsychiatric disorders increased steadily from 2000 to 2021, and research in psychiatric disorders requires more attention in comparison to research in neurological disorders. During the last two decades, QEEG has been mainly applied in neurodegenerative diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and mental disorders to reveal the pathological mechanisms, assist clinical diagnosis, and promote the selection of effective treatments. The recent hot topics focused on QEEG utilization in neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury and related cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy and seizure, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and other mental disorders like major depressive disorder and schizophrenia. In addition, studies to cross-validate QEEG biomarkers, develop new biomarkers (e.g., functional connectivity and complexity), and extract compound biomarkers by machine learning were the emerging trends. Conclusion: The present study integrated bibliometric information on the current status, the knowledge base, and future directions of QEEG studies in neuropsychiatric disorders from a macroscopic perspective. It may provide valuable insights for researchers focusing on the utilization of QEEG in this field.

Abstract:Background: Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) manifests in memory impairment, mental slowness, executive dysfunction, behavioral changes, and visuospatial abnormalities, significantly compromising the quality of daily life for patients and causing inconvenience to caregivers. Neuroimaging serves as a crucial approach to evaluating the extent, location, and type of vascular lesions in patients suspected of VCI. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis to discern the research status and emerging trends concerning VCI neuroimaging. Objective: This study endeavors to explore the collaboration relationships of authors, countries, and institutions, as well as the research hotspots and frontiers of VCI neuroimaging by conducting a bibliometric analysis. Methods: We performed a comprehensive retrieval within the Core Collection of Web of Science, spanning from 2000 to 2023. After screening the included literature, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were utilized for a visualized analysis aimed at identifying the most prolific author, institution, and journal, as well as extracting valuable information from the analysis of references. Results: A total of 1,024 publications were included in this study, comprising 919 articles and 105 reviews. Through the analysis of keywords and references, the research hotspots involve the relationship between neuroimaging of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and VCI, the diagnosis of VCI, and neuroimaging methods pertinent to VCI. Moreover, potential future research directions encompass CSVD, functional and structural connectivity, neuroimaging biomarkers, and lacunar stroke. Conclusion: The research in VCI neuroimaging is constantly developing, and we hope to provide insights and references for future studies by delving into the research hotspots and frontiers within this field.
Hotspots and frontier trends of diabetic associated cognitive decline research based on rat and mouse models from 2012 to 2021: A bibliometric study

Abstract:Background: The establishment of rodent models, such as rat and mouse models, plays a critical role in the study of diabetic associated cognitive decline. With the continuous growth of relevant literature information, it is difficult for researchers to accurately and timely capture the topics in this field. Therefore, this study aims to explore the current status and frontier trends of diabetic associated cognitive decline research based on rat and mouse models through a bibliometric analysis. Methods: We collected 701 original articles on this subject from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection from 2012 to 2021. Then we utilized CiteSpace and VOSviewer for plotting knowledge maps and evaluating hotpots and trends. Results: During this decade, except for a slight decline in 2020, the number of annual outputs on diabetes associated cognitive decline research using rat and mouse models increased every year. China (country), China Pharmaceutical University (institution), Gao, Hongchang (the author from the School of Pharmacy of Wenzhou Medical University, China), and Metabolic Brain Disease (journal) published the most papers in this research field. The analysis results of co-cited references and co-occurrence keywords indicated that "mechanisms and prevention and treatment methods", especially "oxidative stress", "potential association with Alzheimer's disease" and "spatial memory" are research focuses in this subject area. The bursts detection of references and keywords implied that "cognitive impairment of type 1 diabetes" and "autophagy and diabetes associated cognitive decline" will be potential directions for future research in this subject area. Conclusion: This study systematically assessed general information, current status and emerging trends of diabetic associated cognitive decline research using rat and mouse models in the past decade based on a bibliometric analysis. The number of publications was annually increasing although a slight decline was observed in 2020. Contributions from different countries/regions, institutions, authors, co-cited authors, journals and co-cited journals were evaluated, which may also be used to guide future research. Through the analysis of references and keywords, we predicted the future research hotspots and trends in this field.

Research trends and hotspots for frontotemporal dementia from 2000 to 2022: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a neurodegenerative disease with clinical, pathological, and genetic heterogeneity. FTD is receiving increasing attention because it is the second leading cause of early-onset dementia after Alzheimer's disease. This study aimed to analyse the research trends and hotspots of FTD from 2000 to 2022 using bibliometrics. Methods: Papers related to FTD from 2000 to 2020 were systematically searched through the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). Citespace and Vosviewer software were used to visually analyse the retrieved data of countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. Microsoft Excel was used to generate the annual publications and growth trends. Results: There were 10,227 papers included in the bibliometric analysis. The annual publication output on FTD has increased significantly from 2000 to 2022, with papers published in 934 academic journals and 87 countries/regions. The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease was the most popular, with 488 papers about FTD. The most productive countries/regions, institutions, and authors are the United States (n = 4,037), the University of California San Francisco (n = 687), and Miller, Bruce L. (n = 427), respectively. The article by Katya Rascovsky and her colleagues published on Brain in 2011 was the most cocited paper, with 625 citations. The research hotspots in this field were the clinical diagnostic criteria, subdivision, and pathological mechanism of FTD, such as tau protein, chromosome 17, progranulin, TDP-43, and C9orf72. Conclusion: The future research direction is based on biomarkers and pathological mechanisms to diagnose and differential diagnose FTD from the aspects of behavior, neuropathology, neuroimaging, and serum markers.
Mapping the current trends and hotspots of vascular cognitive impairment from 2000–2021: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:This bibliometric analysis mapped the overall research structure of VCI and analyzed the current research trends and hotspots for future studies orientation. Aims To visualize the trends and hotspots in the scientific research related to vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) quantitatively and qualitatively. Methods Cross‐sectional bibliometric analysis of publications that related to VCI was conducted. Publications were found by searching in the Web of Science Core Collection database (WoSCC) – Edition: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI‐Expanded) from January 2000 to December 2021. Publication type was restricted to article and review in the English language. The downloaded data were screened and analyzed in January 2022. Results In total, 16,264 publications were identified, with a steady increase in annual publications. The United States was the leading country in VCI research regarding publication numbers and national influence. National Institute of Aging had the highest influence among all the institutes in the field of VCI. Philip Scheltens was the most active author. The top five active authors' publications focused on pathobiology, neuroimaging standards, risk factors, prevention, and the standard diagnosis of vascular dementia (VaD). A co‐cited publication clustering resulted in 19 main clusters, and the prevention, blood–brain barrier, cholesterol, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and VaD were the top 5 clusters. Moreover, burst keywords detection revealed that the "small vessel disease" is the current hotspot in the field of VCI. Conclusions This bibliometric analysis mapped the overall research structure of VCI and analyzed the current research trends and hotspots for future studies orientation. Neuroimaging, risk factors detection, and pathobiology are the current trends in VCI research. Small vessel disease and its mechanisms are the current hotspots of VCI research.

Abstract:Objective: This study aims to analyze the current research status of acupuncture in the treatment of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using bibliometric methods, explore current research hotspots, and predict future research trends. Methods: Literature on acupuncture for MCI in China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Web of Science (WOS) databases were searched from their inception to December 31, 2022. Articles were then filtered using inclusion and exclusion criteria and imported into VOSviewer 1.6.11 and CiteSpace 6.1.6msi software for descriptive analysis of publication numbers, network analysis of author/institution collaborations, and cluster analysis of keywords, as well as analysis of keyword emergence and linear relationships with time. Results: The Chinese and English databases included 243 and 565 relevant articles, respectively. The overall volume of Chinese and English literature was stable, with the annual volume generally increasing. In terms of countries, institutions, and authors, China had the highest number of English-language publications; however, the number of joint publications among institutions/authors was low. Research institutions were independent and dispersed, with no collaborative teams formed around a single institution/author. The hotspots in Chinese literature were "needling, treatment, electric acupuncture, nimodipine, cognitive training" and other clinical research directions. The hotspots in English literature were "acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, cognitive impairment, memory, vascular dementia, mild cognitive impairment, stroke, hippocampus, injury," and other mechanisms of action. Conclusion: The popularity of acupuncture for MCI is increasing year by year. Acupuncture for MCI, along with cognitive training, can help improve cognitive function. "Inflammation" is the frontier of acupuncture for MCI research. In the future, strengthening effective communication and cooperation among institutions, especially international cooperation, is essential for conducting high-quality research on acupuncture for MCI. This will help obtain high-level evidence and improve the output and translation of research results.

Abstract:This study analyzed the current status, hotspots, and emerging trends of global research on cognitive frailty, in order to provide new research ideas for researchers. Articles and reviews related to cognitive frailty, published from 2013 to 2021, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database on 26 November 2021. CiteSpace 5.8.R3 was employed for data analyses. A total of 2077 publications were included. There has been a rapid growth of publications on cognitive frailty research since 2016. The United States, Italy, England, and Australia have been the leading research centers of cognitive frailty; however, China has also recently focused on this topic. The National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, and Shimada H. were found to be the most prolific institution and author, respectively. Co-citation analysis identified 16 clusters, of which the largest was cognitive frailty. The keywords which occurred most frequently were "older adult", followed by "cognitive impairment", "frailty", "risk", "dementia", "prevalence", "mortality", "health", and "Alzheimer's disease". Burst keyword detection revealed a rising interest in cognitive frailty models. By analyzing these publications from recent years, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of cognitive frailty research.

Abstract:Background: Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) is a major complication of stroke that affects more than one-third of stroke survivors, threatening their quality of life and increasing the risk of disability and death. Although various studies have described the etiology, epidemiology, and risk factors of PSCI, there are a limited number of comprehensive and accurate reports on research trends and hotspots in this field. Therefore, this review aimed to evaluate research trends, hotspots, and frontiers in PSCI using bibliometric analysis. Methods: We screened the literature spanning 20 years in the Web of Science Core Collection: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) database from 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2022. We included all eligible literature reports based on our comprehensive search strategy, inclusion criteria, and exclusion criteria. The analysis of annual publications, countries/regions, institutions, journals, co-cited references, and keywords was conducted using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, and the hotspots and major findings of PSCI were summarized. Results: A total of 1,024 publications were included in this review. We found that the number of publications on PSCI increased annually. These publications were published in 75 countries or regions by over 400 institutions. Although Chinese institutions had the highest number of publications, their international influence was limited. The United States showed a strong influence in the field. The journal "Stroke" published the most publications (57) with a high impact factor and was considered the most co-cited journal. The most frequently cited references focused on the prevalence, incidence, neuropsychological assessment scales, criteria, and guidelines of PSCI. The strongest citation burst keywords for PSCI were "neurotrophic factor" and "synaptic plasticity", which were regarded as research focuses and research hotspots, respectively. Conclusion: This review provided a comprehensive summary of the literature of PSCI, identified the authoritative and frequently cited literature and journals, clarified the trends in PSCI research, and highlighted the hotspots in this field. Currently, studies on the mechanisms and treatment of PSCI are limited, and we hope that this review has effectively highlighted the research trajectory of PSCI and will lay the foundation for more innovative research in the future.

Abstract:Objective: The diagnosis and treatment of biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease has emerged as a prominent topic within Alzheimer's disease research. In this paper, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of data from a wide range of literature in this field to enhance the in-depth understanding of this area. Method: The core collection of the Science Citation Index database (web of science) was used to search for relevant literature in the above fields from 1 January 2006 to 14 November 2022 and Citespace software was used to visualize and analyze the literature data. Results: A total of 1,138 papers were included, of which the United States ranked first with 607 papers and China ranked 6th in the world with 84 papers. The value of mediational centrality is 0.49 in the United States and 0.05 in China. In terms of the number of articles published by the research authors, the Swedish scholar Blennow Kaj ranks first with 82 articles published, and the scholars who rank second and third are Zetterberg Henrik (78 articles) and Morris John C (64 articles), respectively; in terms of the mediational centrality, the American scholar Trojanowski John Q ranked first in the world with 0.1, and the second and third ranked scholars were Blennow Kaj (0.09) and Zetterberg Henrik (0.06) respectively. Scholar JACK CR ranked first with 377 citation frequency. The journal NEUROLOGY is ranked first with 943 citations. Conclusion: In recent years, global research in the field of biomarkers related to Alzheimer's disease has shown signs of softening, and the momentum of research has slightly diminished. However, this trend does not imply a decline in the quality of research. It is essential to enhance collaboration among countries, major research institutions, and scholars, with a particular emphasis on fostering international partnerships in the future.

Effect of dietary patterns on mild cognitive impairment and dementia: a machine learning bibliometric and visualization analysis

Abstract:Objective: As a spectrum of neurodegenerative conditions, dementia presents a significant challenge to worldwide health. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is recognized as the intermediate stage between normal cognitive functioning and dementia. Studies highlight the significant impact of dietary patterns on the management of MCI and dementia. Currently, comprehensive research on dietary patterns specific to MCI and dementia is limited, but bibliometric analysis offers a method to pinpoint essential research directions. Methods: On November 18, 2023, a search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for publications on diet and MCI/dementia. Tools such as Rstudio, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer were employed to create a knowledge atlas. This atlas analyzed collaborations, reference co-citations, keyword patterns, and emerging trends. Results: The search yielded 1,493 publications on diet and MCI/dementia, indicating a growing interest despite fluctuations. Contributions came from 70 countries/regions and 410 organizations across 456 journals. The USA and China led in publication numbers, with significant contributions from Columbia University and Harvard Medical School. Top authors include Scarmeas Nikolaos, Morris Martha Clare, and Samieri Cecilia. The Ketogenic, Mediterranean, and MIND diets emerged as key dietary patterns for cognitive decline prevention, highlighting the role of genetic factors, especially ApoE polymorphisms, in cognitive deterioration. Conclusion: This study provides core countries, institutions, and authors in the field, and points out the development directions in the field. Future research directions in dietary for MCI and dementia will focus on: (1) the potential effects of the KD in alleviating oxidative stress and modulating gut microbiota in neurodegenerative diseases; (2) how diet influences cognitive health through patterns of ApoE and protein expression; (3) investigating the interactions between gut microbiota and brain function, known as the "gut-brain axis."

Abstract:Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the predominant cause of dementia on a global scale, significantly impacting the health of the elderly population. The pathogenesis of AD is closely linked to neuroinflammation. The present study employs a bibliometric analysis to examine research pertaining to neuroinflammation and AD within the last decade, with the objective of providing a comprehensive overview of the current research profile, hotspots and trends. Methods: This research conducted a comprehensive review of publications within the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection Database spanning the years 2014 to 2024. Bibliometric analyses were performed using VOSviewer (version 1.6.19) and CiteSpace (version 6.3.R1) software to visualize data on countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, and references. Results: A total of 3,833 publications on neuroinflammation and AD were included from January 2014 to January 2024. Publications were mainly from the United States and China. Zetterberg, Henrik emerged as the author with the highest publication output, while Edison, Paul was identified as the most cited author. The most productive journal was Journal of Alzheimers Disease, and the most co-cited was Journal of Neuroinflammation. Research hotspot focused on microglia, mouse models, oxidative stress, and amyloid-beta through keyword analysis. Additionally, keywords such as blood-brain barrier and tau protein exhibited prolonged citation bursts from 2022 to 2024. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive review of the last 10 years of research on neuroinflammation and AD, including the number and impact of research findings, research hotspots, and future trends. The quantity of publications in this field is increasing, mainly in the United States and China, and there is a need to further strengthen close cooperation with different countries and institutions worldwide. Presently, research hotspots are primarily concentrated on microglia, with a focus on inhibiting their pro-inflammatory responses and promoting their anti-inflammatory functions as a potential direction for future investigations.
