Abstract:Q-map spaces form an important class of quaternionic K\"ahler manifolds of negative scalar curvature. Their one-loop deformations are always inhomogeneous and have been used to construct cohomogeneity one quaternionic K\"ahler manifolds as deformations of homogeneous spaces. Here we study the group of isometries in the deformed case. Our main result is the statement that it always contains a semidirect product of a group of affine transformations of $\mathbb{R}^{n-1}$ with a Heisenberg group of dimension $2n+1$ for a q-map space of dimension $4n$. The affine group and its action on the normal Heisenberg factor in the semidirect product depend on the cubic affine hypersurface which encodes the q-map space.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe a method for obtaining the nonabelian Seiberg-Witten map for any gauge group and to any order in θ. The equations defining the Seiberg-Witten map are expressed using a coboundary operator, so that they can be solved by constructing a corresponding homotopy operator. The ambiguities, of both the gauge and covariant type, which arise in this map are manifest in our formalism.

Abstract:On a one-dimensional lattice without uniform interval, the Hermitian conjugation of a q-differential operator is discussed. Then a deformation of quantum mechanics in one dimension is presented. As an application, the harmonic oscillator is discussed. The energy spectrum and the eigenfunctions are shown to depend on an arbitrary deformation function. The deformed coherent states are also discussed. It is found that the completeness relation of coherent states holds for the case of q-coherent states, i.e. the deformation of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra is a q-analogue Hopf algebra.

Abstract:We construct a gauge theory model on the 4-dimensional ρ -Minkowski space-time, a particular deformation of the Minkowski space-time recently considered. The corresponding star product results from a combination of Weyl quantization map and properties of the convolution algebra of the special Euclidean group. We use noncommutative differential calculi based on twisted derivations together with a twisted notion of noncommutative connection. The twisted derivations pertain to the Hopf algebra of ρ -deformed translations, a Hopf subalgebra of the ρ -deformed Poincaré algebra which can be viewed as defining the quantum symmetries of the ρ -Minkowski space-time. The gauge theory model is left invariant under the action of the ρ -deformed Poincaré algebra. The kinetic part of the action is found to coincide with the one of the usual (commutative) electrodynamics.

Abstract:Gauging a discrete 0-form symmetry of a QFT is a procedure that changes the global form of the gauge group but not its perturbative dynamics. In this work, we study the Seiberg-Witten solution of theories resulting from the gauging of charge conjugation in 4d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ theories with $SU(N)$ gauge group and fundamental hypermultiplets. The basic idea of our procedure is to identify the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ action at the level of the SW curve and perform the quotient, and it should also be applicable to non-lagrangian theories. We study dynamical aspects of these theories such as their moduli space singularities and the corresponding physics; in particular, we explore the complex structure singularity arising from the quotient procedure. We also discuss some implications of our work in regard to three problems: the geometric classification of 4d SCFTs, the study of non-invertible symmetries from the SW geometry, and the String Theory engineering of theories with disconnected gauge groups.

On deformation quantization of the space of connections on a two manifold and Chern Simons Gauge Theory

Abstract:We use recent progress on Chern-Simons gauge theory in three dimensions [18] to give explicit, closed form formulas for the star product on some functions on the affine space ${\mathcal A}(\Sigma)$ of (smooth) connections on the trivialized principal $G$-bundle on a compact, oriented two manifold $\Sigma.$ These formulas give a close relation between knot invariants, such as the Kauffman bracket polynomial, and the Jones and HOMFLY polynomials, arising in Chern Simons gauge theory, and deformation quantization of ${\mathcal A}(\Sigma).$ This relation echoes the relation between the manifold invariants of Witten [20] and Reshetikhin-Turaev [16] and {\em geometric} quantization of this space (or its symplectic quotient by the action of the gauge group). In our case this relation arises from explicit algebraic formulas arising from the (mathematically well-defined) functional integrals of [18].

Abstract:'t Hooft anomalies of discrete global symmetries and gaugings thereof have rich mathematical structures and far-reaching physical consequences. We examine each subgroup $G$, up to automorphisms, of the permutation group $S_4$ that acts on the four legs of the affine $D_4$ quiver diagram, which is mirror dual to the 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ gauge theory with four flavours. These actions are studied in terms of how each permutation cycle acts on the superconformal index of the theory in question. We present a prescription for refining the index with respect to the fugacities associated with the Abelian discrete symmetries that are subgroups of $G$. This allows us to study sequential gauging of various subgroups of $G$ and construct symmetry webs. We study the effects of 't Hooft anomalies and non-invertible symmetries that arise from discrete gauging on the index. When the whole symmetry $G$ is gauged, our results are in perfect agreement with a type of discrete operations on the quiver, known as wreathing, discussed in the literature. We provide a general prescription for computing the index for any wreathed quivers that contain unitary or special unitary gauge groups. We demonstrate this in an example of the 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ $\mathrm{U}(N)$ gauge theory with $n$ flavours and compare the results with gauging the charge conjugation symmetry associated with the flavour symmetry of such a theory.

Generalised-Edged Quivers and Global Forms

Abstract:Non-simply laced quivers, despite the lack of complete Lagrangian descriptions, play an important role in characterising moduli spaces of supersymmetric field theories. Notably, the moduli space of instantons in non-simply laced gauge groups can be understood by means of such quivers. We generalise the notion of non-simply laced unitary quivers to those whose edges carry two labels $(p,q)$, dubbed $(p,q)$-edged quivers. The special case of $(p,1)$ corresponds to a conventional non-simply laced edge studied in the literature. In the case of unframed $(p,q)$-edged quivers, we show how to parametrise the lattice of magnetic fluxes upon ungauging the decoupled $\mathrm{U}(1)$, and how one can pick sublattices thereof corresponding to different global forms of the quiver related by discrete gauging. This form of discrete gauging can be applied to any unframed unitary quivers, not just ones with generalised edges. We utilise both the Hilbert series and the superconformal index to study moduli spaces and 't Hooft anomalies. In particular, we study mixed 't Hooft anomalies between a one-form symmetry and a zero-form continuous topological symmetry in various $(p,q)$-edged quivers. We also provide an alternative realisation of the moduli space of $\mathfrak{so}(2n+1)$ instantons via gauging discrete symmetries in supersymmetric QCD with a symplectic gauge group and a large number of flavours.

Abstract:We give a generally covariant description, in the sense of symplectic geometry, of gauge transformations in Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization. Gauge transformations exist not only at the classical level, but also at the quantum level, where they leave the action-weighted measure $d\mu_S = d\mu e^{2S/\hbar}$ invariant. The quantum gauge transformations and their Lie algebra are $\hbar$-deformations of the classical gauge transformation and their Lie algebra. The corresponding Lie brackets $[ , ]^q$, and $[ , ]^c$, are constructed in terms of the symplectic structure and the measure $d\mu_S$. We discuss closed string field theory as an application.

Pseudo-periodic map and classification of theories with eight supercharges

Abstract:The classification of one parameter local Coulomb branch solution of theories with eight supercharges is given by assuming that it is given by a genus $g$ fiberation of Riemann surfaces. The crucial point is the fact that certain conjugacy class (so-called pseudo-periodic map of negative type) in mapping class group determines the topological type of the degeneration. The classification of conjugacy class has a simple combinatorial description. Each such conjugacy class gives rise to a dual graph and a 3d mirror quiver gauge theory can be derived, which is then used to identify the low energy theory (assuming generic deformation). Some global Seiberg-Witten geometries are given by using the topological data of the degeneration. The geometric setup unifies 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs (such as $T_n$ theory and Argyres-Douglas theory), 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFTs, 6d $(1,0)$ SCFTs, 4d IR free theories, and 4d asymptotical free theories in a single combinatorial framework.

Abstract:In this paper, from the $q$-gauge covariant condition we define the $q$-deformed Killing form and the second $q$-deformed Chern class for the quantum group $SU_{q}(2)$. Developing Zumino's method we introduce a $q$-deformed homotopy operator to compute the $q$-deformed Chern-Simons and the $q$-deformed cocycle hierarchy. Some recursive relations related to the generalized $q$-deformed Killing forms are derived to prove the cocycle hierarchy formulas directly. At last, we construct the $q$-gauge covariant Lagrangian and derive the $q$-deformed Yang-Mills equation. We find that the components of the singlet and the adjoint representation are separated in the $q$-deformed Chern class, $q$-deformed cocycle hierarchy and the $q$-deformed Lagrangian, although they are mixed in the commutative relations of BRST algebra.

Regularity Properties and Pathologies of Position-Space Renormalization-Group Transformations

Abstract:We reconsider the conceptual foundations of the renormalization-group (RG) formalism, and prove some rigorous theorems on the regularity properties and possible pathologies of the RG map. Regarding regularity, we show that the RG map, defined on a suitable space of interactions (= formal Hamiltonians), is always single-valued and Lipschitz continuous on its domain of definition. This rules out a recently proposed scenario for the RG description of first-order phase transitions. On the pathological side, we make rigorous some arguments of Griffiths, Pearce and Israel, and prove in several cases that the renormalized measure is not a Gibbs measure for any reasonable interaction. This means that the RG map is ill-defined, and that the conventional RG description of first-order phase transitions is not universally valid. For decimation or Kadanoff transformations applied to the Ising model in dimension $d \ge 3$, these pathologies occur in a full neighborhood $\{ \beta > \beta_0 ,\, |h| < \epsilon(\beta) \}$ of the low-temperature part of the first-order phase-transition surface. For block-averaging transformations applied to the Ising model in dimension $d \ge 2$, the pathologies occur at low temperatures for arbitrary magnetic-field strength. Pathologies may also occur in the critical region for Ising models in dimension $d \ge 4$. We discuss in detail the distinction between Gibbsian and non-Gibbsian measures, and give a rather complete catalogue of the known examples. Finally, we discuss the heuristic and numerical evidence on RG pathologies in the light of our rigorous theorems.

Abstract:The gauge equivalence of the analogues of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation NLS- and those of the Schrodinger flow of maps into H-2 (the Minkowski HF model) in 2 + 1 dimensions are proved, respectively. Combining these with the already-known results, we obtain a complete understanding of the gauge equivalence of the analogous models of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (for kappa = 1 or -1) and those of the Heisenberg ferromagnet model (for Euclidean or Minkowski) in 2 + 1 dimensions.
Noncommutative gauge symmetry in the fractional quantum Hall effect

Abstract:We show that a system of particles on the lowest Landau level can be coupled to a probe U(1) gauge field μ in such a way that the theory is invariant under a noncommutative U(1) gauge symmetry. While the temporal component 0 of the probe field is coupled to the projected density operator, the spatial components i are best interpreted as quantum displacements, which distort the interaction potential between the particles. We develop a Seiberg-Witten-type map from the noncommutative U(1) gauge symmetry to a simpler version, which we call "baby noncommutative" gauge symmetry, where the Moyal brackets are replaced by the Poisson brackets. The latter symmetry group is isomorphic to the group of volume preserving diffeomorphisms. By using this map, we resolve the apparent contradiction between the noncommutative gauge symmetry, on the one hand, and the particle-hole symmetry of the half-filled Landau level and the presence of the mixed Chern-Simons terms in the effective Lagrangian of the fractional quantum Hall states, on the other hand. We outline the general procedure which can be used to write down effective field theories which respect the noncommutative U(1) symmetry.

Abstract:We provide a formalism using the $q$-Cartan matrix to compute the instanton partition function of quiver gauge theory on various manifolds. Applying this formalism to eight dimensional setups, we introduce the notion of double quiver gauge theory characterized by a pair of quivers. We also explore the BPS/CFT correspondence in eight dimensions based on the $q$-Cartan matrix formalism.

Gauging Non-Invertible Symmetries: Topological Interfaces and Generalized Orbifold Groupoid in 2d QFT

Abstract:Gauging is a powerful operation on symmetries in quantum field theory (QFT), as it connects distinct theories and also reveals hidden structures in a given theory. We initiate a systematic investigation of gauging discrete generalized symmetries in two-dimensional QFT. Such symmetries are described by topological defect lines (TDLs) which obey fusion rules that are non-invertible in general. Despite this seemingly exotic feature, all well-known properties in gauging invertible symmetries carry over to this general setting, which greatly enhances both the scope and the power of gauging. This is established by formulating generalized gauging in terms of topological interfaces between QFTs, which explains the physical picture for the mathematical concept of algebra objects and associated module categories over fusion categories that encapsulate the algebraic properties of generalized symmetries and their gaugings. This perspective also provides simple physical derivations of well-known mathematical theorems in category theory from basic axiomatic properties of QFT in the presence of such interfaces. We discuss a bootstrap-type analysis to classify such topological interfaces and thus the possible generalized gaugings and demonstrate the procedure in concrete examples of fusion categories. Moreover we present a number of examples to illustrate generalized gauging and its properties in concrete conformal field theories (CFTs). In particular, we identify the generalized orbifold groupoid that captures the structure of fusion between topological interfaces (equivalently sequential gaugings) as well as a plethora of new self-dualities in CFTs under generalized gaugings.

Abstract:We introduce a moment map picture for holomorphic string algebroids where the Hamiltonian gauge action is described by means of inner automorphisms of Courant algebroids. The zero locus of our moment map is given by the solutions of the Calabi system, a coupled system of equations which provides a unifying framework for the classical Calabi problem and the Hull-Strominger system. Our main results are concerned with the geometry of the moduli space of solutions, and assume a technical condition which is fulfilled in examples. We prove that the moduli space carries a pseudo-Kähler metric with Kähler potential given by the dilaton functional, a topological formula for the metric, and an infinitesimal Donaldson-Uhlenbeck-Yau type theorem.
