Abstract:We show that the flow approach of Duch [Duc21] can be adapted to prove local well-posedness for the generalized Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation. The key step is to extend the flow approach so that it can accommodate semi-linear equations involving smooth, non-polynomial, functions of the solution - this is accomplished by introducing coordinates for the flow built out of elementary differentials.

Abstract:We propose an artificial boundary method for solving the deterministic Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation in one-, two- and three dimensional unbounded domains. The exact artificial boundary conditions are obtained on the artificial boundaries. Then the original problems are reduced to equivalent problems in bounded domains. A finite difference method is applied to solve the reduced problems, and some numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear elliptic equations in the Krylov type, which can be viewed as a generalization of the Hessian equation for Schouten tensor. After a conformal change, we considered the Dirichlet problem for a modified Schouten tensor in the smooth closed Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary. A unique k -admissible solution can be assured under some suitable settings.

Abstract:The Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation is a stochastic partial differential equation which is derived from various microscopic models, and to establish a robust way to derive the KPZ equation is a fundamental problem both in mathematics and in physics. As a microscopic model, we consider multi-species interacting diffusion processes, whose dynamics is driven by a nonlinear potential which satisfies some regularity conditions. In particular, we study asymptotic behavior of fluctuation fields associated with the processes in the high temperature regime under equilibrium. As a main result, we show that when the characteristic speed of each species is the same, the family of the fluctuation fields seen in moving frame with this speed converges to the coupled KPZ equations. Our approach is based on a Taylor expansion argument which extracts the harmonic potential as a main part. This argument works without assuming a specific form of the potential and thereby the coupled KPZ equations are derived in a robust way.

Abstract:An Ansatz for the Poincaré metric on compact Riemann surfaces is proposed. This implies that the Liouville equation reduces to an equation resembling a non chiral analogous of the higher genus relationships (KP equation) arising in the framework of Schottky's problem solution. This approach connects uniformization (Fuchsian groups) and moduli space theories with KP hierarchy. Besides its mathematical interest, the Ansatz has some applications in the framework of quantum Riemann surfaces arising in 2D gravity.

Finding all solutions to the KZ equations in characteristic $p$

Abstract:The KZ equations are differential equations satisfied by the correlation functions (on the Riemann sphere) of two-dimensional conformal field theories associated with an affine Lie algebra at a fixed level. They form a system of complex partial differential equations with regular singular points satisfied by the $n$-point functions of affine primary fields. In [SV1] the KZ equations were identified with equations for flat sections of suitable Gauss-Manin connections, and solutions of the KZ equations were constructed in the form of multidimensional hypergeometric integrals. In [SV2] the KZ equations were considered modulo a prime number $p$, and, for rational levels, polynomial solutions of the KZ equations modulo $p$ were constructed by an elementary procedure as suitable $p$-approximations of the hypergeometric integrals. In this paper we study in detail the first nontrivial example of the KZ equations in characteristic $p$. In particular, if the level is irrational, we prove a version of the steepest descent result that relates the KZ local system to the space of functions on the critical locus of the master function. We use this result to prove the generic irreducibility of the KZ local system at any irrational level. If the level is rational, we describe all solutions of the KZ equations in characteristic $p$ by demonstrating that they all stem from the $p$-hypergeometric solutions. Finally, we prove a Lagrangian property of the subbundle of the KZ bundle spanned by the $p$-hypergeometric sections.

The unpredicted scaling of the one-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation

Abstract:The celebrated Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation describes the kinetic roughening of stochastically growing interfaces. In one dimension, the KPZ equation is exactly solvable and its statistical properties are known to an exquisite degree. Yet recent numerical simulations in the tensionless (or inviscid) limit of the KPZ equation [Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc. A 380, 20210090 (2022); Phys. Rev. E 106, 024802 (2022)] unveiled a new scaling, with a critical dynamical exponent $z=1$ different from the KPZ one $z=3/2$. In this Letter, we show that this scaling is controlled by a fixed point which had been missed so far and which corresponds to an infinite non-linear coupling. Using the functional renormalization group (FRG), we demonstrate the existence of this fixed point and show that it yields $z=1$. We calculate the correlation function and associated scaling function at this fixed point, providing both a numerical solution of the FRG equations within a reliable approximation, and an exact asymptotic form obtained in the limit of large wavenumbers. Both scaling functions accurately match the one from the numerical simulations.

Some recent progress on the periodic KPZ equation

Abstract:We review recent progress on the study of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation in a periodic setting, which describes the random growth of an interface in a cylindrical geometry. The main results include central limit theorems for the height of the interface and the winding number of the directed polymer in a periodic random environment. We present two different approaches for each result, utilizing either a homogenization argument or tools from Malliavin calculus. A surprising finding in the case of a $1+1$ spacetime white noise is that the effective variances for both the height and the winding number can be expressed in terms of independent Brownian bridges. Additionally, we present two new results: (i) the explicit expression of the corrector used in the homogenization argument, and (ii) the law of the iterated logarithm for the height function.

Abstract:In this work, the Riemann–Hilbert (RH) problem is employed to study the Lakshmanan–Porsezian–Daniel (LPD) equation with arbitrary-order pole points under finite density initial data condition. By performing spectral analysis on Lax pairs, a suitable matrix RH problem is established. Through the residue theorem, the explicit expression of simple pole solutions is obtained by Binet–Cauchy theorem. In addition, utilizing the Wronskian form of scattering data which degenerates to zero at high-order zero points and the Taylor expansion of oscillation index , the expression of the high-order pole solutions is constructed. Moreover, the detailed analysis is conducted on the dynamic behaviors of special soliton solutions, and some interesting soliton phenomena are presented by taking the influence of various parameters into consideration.

Abstract:We report the generalized spatial discretization of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation in 1+1 dimensions. We solve exactly the steady state probability density function for the discrete heights of the interface, for any discretization scheme. We show that the discretization prescription is a consequence of each particular model. We derive the discretization prescription of the KPZ equation for the ballistic deposition model.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the homogeneous complex k-Hessian equation in $\Omega\backslash\{0\}$. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the $C^{1,\alpha}$ solution by constructing approximating solutions. The key point for us is to construct the subsolution for approximating problem and establish uniform gradient estimates and complex Hessian estimates which is independent of the approximation.

Abstract:We use the method of Darboux coverings to discuss the invariant submanifolds of the KP equations presented as conservation laws in the space of monic Laurent series in the spectral parameter (the space of the Hamiltonian densities). We identify a special class of these submanifolds with the rational invariant submanifolds entering matrix models of two-dimensional gravity recently characterized by Dickey and Krichever. Four examples of the general procedure are provided.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations with distribution-valued coefficients, which are not well-defined in the classical sense and are understood by using the paracontrolled distribution method introduced in (Gubinelli et al. in Forum Math Pi 3(6):1, 2015). By a new characterization of weighted Hölder spaces and Zvonkin's transformation we prove some new a priori estimates, and therefore establish the global well-posedness for singular HJB equations. As applications, we obtain global well-posedness in polynomial weighted Hölder spaces for KPZ type equations on the real line, as well as modified KPZ equations for which the Cole–Hopf transformation is not applicable.

Abstract:Results of investigation of the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problems for a quasi-linear parabolic equation with a small parameter at a higher derivative near singular points of limit solutions are presented. Interest to the problem under consideration is explained by its applications to a wide class of physical systems and probabilistic processes such as acoustic waves in fluid and gas, hydrodynamical turbulence and nonlinear diffusion. The following cases are considered: a singularity generated by a jump discontinuity of the initial function, collision of two shock waves, gradient catastrophe, transition of a weak discontinuity into a shock wave, a singularity generated by a large initial gradient.

Abstract:We derive the renormalised equation for the quasi-generalised KPZ equation with space-time white noise. We complement the program initiated by Gerencsér and Hairer for solving quasi-linear equations using regularity structures by an algebraic machinery that gives a systematic tool to remove non-local counterterms and provide a precise expression of the renormalised equation that is consistent with the semilinear case. The solution theory satisfies the chain rule and a natural notion of Itô isometry, which can be combined to obtain global in time solution.
