Abstract:We establish two new criteria for the closedness of Archimedean cones in countable-dimensional locally convex spaces in terms of projective parallelotopes and projective automorphisms. We also answer some open questions about quasidenseness and quasi-interior.

Abstract:In this article, we first prove a general theorem which asserts that every quasi-component of a quasi-spectral space is connected. As an application, it is shown that every connected component of a quasi-compact quasi-separated scheme is the intersection of all clopen (both open and closed) subsets containing a point. In particular, the connected components of an affine scheme Spec$(R)$ are precisely of the form $V(J)$ where $J$ is a proper ideal of the ring $R$ generated by a set of idempotent elements such that $R/J$ has no nontrivial idempotents. The above result also contributes to the following open problem: Is there a way to describe the connected components of the projective space $\mathbb{P}_{A}^{n}={\rm Proj}(A[x_{0},\ldots,x_{n}])$ in a precise form (similar the affine case)? Next, we characterize the finiteness of the number of connected components of an arbitrary (quasi-compact) topological space in terms of purely algebraic conditions. In particular, a topological space $X$ has finitely many connected components if and only if $X$ has finitely many clopens. In this case, $|{\rm Clop}(X)|=2^n$ where $n$ is the number of connected components of $X$. More surprisingly, we prove that a quasi-compact space $X$ has finitely many connected components, i.e. $\kappa=|\pi_{0}(X)|<\infty$ if and only if $|{\rm Clop}(X)|=2^\kappa$. In the same vein, we prove that a commutative ring $R$ has finitely many idempotents if and only if there exists a decomposition $R\simeq\prod\limits_{k=1}^{n}R/(1-e_{k})$ with each $e_k$ is a primitive idempotent of $R$.

Some aspects of semi-harmonious quasi-projection pairs

Abstract:A term called the quasi-projection pair $(P,Q)$ was introduced recently by the authors, where $P$ is a projection and $Q$ is an idempotent on a Hilbert $C^*$-module $H$ satisfying $Q^*=(2P-I)Q(2P-I)$, in which $Q^*$ is the adjoint operator of the idempotent $Q$ and $I$ is the identity operator on $H$. Some fundamental issues on quasi-projection pairs, such as the block matrix representations for quasi-projection pairs and the $C^*$-morphisms associated with quasi-projection pairs, are worthwhile to be investigated. This paper aims to make some preparations. One object called the semi-harmonious quasi-projection pair is introduced in the general setting of the adjointable operators on Hilbert $C^*$-modules. Some related operator theories on the common similarity of operators and a norm equation associated with the Friedrichs angle are dealt with.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{P}$ be the set of points of a finite-dimensional projective space over a local field $F$, endowed with the topology $\tau$ naturally induced from the canonical topology of $F$. Intuitively, continuous incidence abelian group structures on $\mathcal{P}$ are abelian group structures on $\mathcal{P}$ preserving both the topology $\tau$ and the incidence of lines with points. We show that the real projective line is the only finite-dimensional projective space over an Archimedean local field which admits a continuous incidence abelian group structure. The latter is unique up to isomorphism of topological groups. In contrast, in the non-Archimedean case we construct continuous incidence abelian group structures in any dimension $n \in \mathbb{N}$. We show that if $n>1$ and the characteristic of $F$ does not divide $n+1$, then there are finitely many possibilities up to topological isomorphism and, in any case, countably many.

Abstract:An equidistant polytope is a special equidistant set in the space $\mathbb{R}^n$ all of whose boundary points have equal distances from two finite systems of points. Since one of the finite systems of the given points is required to be in the interior of the convex hull of the other one we can speak about inner and outer focal points of the equidistant polytope. It is of type $(q, p)$, where $q$ is the number of the outer focal points and $p$ is the number of the inner focal points. The equidistancy is the generalization of convexity because a convex polytope can be given as an equidistant polytope of type $(q, 1)$, where $q\geq n+1$. In the paper we present some general results about the basic properties of the equidistant polytopes: convex components, graph representations, connectedness, correspondence to the Voronoi decomposition of the space etc. Especially, we are interested in equidistant polytopes of dimension $2$ (equidistant polygons). Equidistant polygons of type $(3,2)$ will be characterized in terms of a constructive (ruler-and-compass) process to recognize them. In general they are pentagons with exactly two concave angles such that the vertices, where the concave angles appear at, are joined by an inner diagonal related to the adjacent sides of the polygon in a special way via the three reflection theorem for concurrent lines. The last section is devoted to some special arrangements of the focal points to get the concave quadrangles as equidistant polygons of type $(3,2)$.
Projective embeddings of homogeneous spaces with small boundary

Abstract:We study open equivariant projective embeddings of homogeneous spaces such that the complement of the open orbit does not contain divisors. Criterions of existence of such an embedding are considered and finiteness of isomorphism classes of embeddings for a given homogeneous space is proved. Any embedding with small boundary is realized as a GIT-quotient associated with a linearization of the trivial line bundle on the space of the canonical embedding. The generalized Cox's construction and the theory of bunched rings allow us to describe basic geometric properties of embeddings with small boundary in combinatorial terms.

Unexpected but recurrent phenomena for Quot and Hilbert schemes of points

Abstract:We investigate some aspects of the geometry of two classical generalisations of the Hilbert schemes of points. Precisely, we show that parity conjecture for $\text{Quot}_r^d\mathbb{A}^3$ already fails for $d=8$ and $r=2$ and that lots of the elementary components of the nested Hilbert schemes of points on smooth quasi-projective varieties of dimension at least 4 are generically non-reduced. We also deduce that nested Hilbert schemes of points on smooth surfaces have generically non-reduced components. Finally, we give an infinite family of elementary components of the classical Hilbert schemes of points.

Two new constructions in the theory of projection complexes

Abstract:In this paper we provide two new constructions that are useful for the theory of projection complexes developed by Bestvina, Bromberg, Fujiwara and Sisto. We prove that there exists a subtree of the projection complex which is quasiisometric to the projection complex. We use this subtree to form a tree of metric spaces, which is a subgraph of the quasi-tree of metrics spaces and quasiisometric to it. These constructions simplify the metric structure (up to quasiisometry) of the projection complex and the quasi-tree of metric spaces. As an application, we use these constructions to provide a shorter proof of Hume's theorem that the mapping class group admits a quasiisometric embedding into a finite product of trees.

Abstract:In this essay we study various notions of projective space (and other schemes) over $\mathbb{F}_{1^\ell}$, with $\mathbb{F}_1$ denoting the field with one element. Our leading motivation is the "Hiden Points Principle," which shows a huge deviation between the set of rational points as closed points defined over $\mathbb{F}_{1^\ell}$, and the set of rational points defined as morphisms $\texttt{Spec}(\mathbb{F}_{1^\ell}) \mapsto \mathcal{X}$. We also introduce, in the same vein as Kurokawa [13], schemes of $\mathbb{F}_{1^\ell}$-type, and consider their zeta functions.

Abstract:We discuss the cone and contraction theorem in a suitable complex analytic setting. More precisely, we establish the cone and contraction theorem of normal pairs for projective morphisms between complex analytic spaces. This result is a starting point of the minimal model program for complex analytic log canonical pairs. In this paper, we are mainly interested in normal pairs whose singularities are worse than kawamata log terminal singularities.

Abstract:We study some density results for integral points on the complement of a closed subvariety in the $n$-dimensional projective space over a number field. For instance, we consider a subvariety whose components consist of $n-1$ hyperplanes plus one smooth quadric hypersurface in general position, or four hyperplanes in general position plus a finite number of concurrent straight lines. In these cases, under some conditions on intersection, we show that the integral points on the complements are potentially dense. Our results are generalizations of Corvaja-Zucconi's results for complements of subvarieties in the two or three dimensional projective space.

Obstructions to semiorthogonal decompositions for singular projective varieties II: Representation theory

Abstract:We show that odd-dimensional projective varieties with tilting objects and only ADE-hypersurface singularities are nodal, i.e. they only have $A_1$-singularities. This is a very special case of more general obstructions to the existence of semiorthogonal decompositions for projective Gorenstein varieties. More precisely, for many isolated hypersurface singularities, we show that Kuznetsov-Shinder's categorical absorptions of singularities cannot contain tilting objects. The key idea is to compare singularity categories of projective varieties to singularity categories of finite-dimensional associative Gorenstein algebras. The former often contain special generators, called cluster-tilting objects, which typically have loops and $2$-cycles in their quivers. In contrast, quivers of cluster-tilting objects in the latter categories, can never have loops or $2$-cycles.

Abstract:As a natural extension of the ongoing development of a theory of ideals in commutative quantales with an identity element, this article aims to study into the analysis of certain topological properties exhibited by distinguished classes of ideals. These ideals are equipped with quantale topologies. The primary objectives encompass characterizing quantale spaces exhibiting sobriety, examining several conditions pertaining to quasi-compactness, and demonstrating that quantale spaces comprised of proper ideals adhere to the spectral properties as defined by Hochster. We introduce the notion of a strongly disconnected spaces and show that for a quantale with zero Jacobson radical, strongly disconnected quantale spaces containing all maximal ideals of the quantale imply existence of non-trivial idempotent elements in the quantale. Additionally, a sufficient criterion for establishing the connectedness of a quantale space is presented. Finally, we discuss on continuous maps between quantale spaces.

Abstract:We show that when A is a separable C*-algebra, every countably generated Hilbert A-module is projective (with bounded module maps as morphisms). We also study the approximate extensions of bounded module maps. In the case where A is a σ-unital simple C*-algebra with strict comparison, and every strictly positive lower semicontinuous affine function on quasitraces can be realized as the rank of an element in the Cuntz semigroup, we show that the Cuntz semigroup is equivalent to unitarily equivalent classes of countably generated Hilbert A-modules if and only if A has stable rank one.

Abstract:In this article we introduce generalized projective spaces (Definitions $[2.1, 2.5]$) and prove three main theorems in two different contexts. In the first context we prove, in main Theorem $A$, the surjectivity of the Chinese remainder reduction map associated to the generalized projective space of an ideal with a given factorization into mutually co-maximal ideals each of which is contained in finitely many maximal ideals, using the key concept of choice multiplier hypothesis (Definition $4.11$) which is satisfied. In the second context of surjectivity of the map from $k$-dimensional special linear group to the product of generalized projective spaces of $k$-mutually co-maximal ideals associating the $k$-rows or $k$-columns, we prove remaining two main Theorems $[\Omega,\Sigma]$ under certain conditions either on the ring or on the generalized projective spaces. Finally in the last section we pose open Questions $[9.1, 9.2]$ whose answers in a greater generality is not known.

Quasimetric spaces with few lines

Abstract:Chen and Chvátal conjectured in 2008 that in any finite metric space either there is a line containing all the points - a universal line -, or the number of lines is at least the number of points. This is a generalization of a classical result due to Erdős that says that a set of $n$ non-collinear points in the Euclidean plane defines at least $n$ different lines. A line of a metric space with metric $\rho$ is defined in terms of a notion called the betweenness of the space which is the set of all triples $(x,z,y)$ such that $\rho(x,y)=\rho(x,z)+\rho(z,y)$. In this work we prove that for each $n\geq 4$ there are $p_3(n)$ non isomorphic betweennesses arising from \emph{quasimetric} spaces with $n$ points, without universal lines and with exactly 3 lines, where $p_3(n)$ is the number of partitions of an integer $n$ into three parts. We also prove that for $n\geq 5$, there are $2p_3(n-1)$ non isomorphic betweennesses arising from quasimetric spaces on $n$ points, without universal lines and with exactly 4 lines. Here two betweennesses are isomorphic if they are isomorphic as relational structures. None of the betweennesses mentioned above is metric which implies that Chen and Chvátal's conjecture is valid for metric spaces with at most five points.
