Abstract:Lipomas are very common benign adipose tissue tumors that most often develop in subcutaneous tissue. A limited number of studies have described the characteristics of parosteal ossifying lipomas located in the fibula, cervical vertebrae and mandible. However, to the best of our knowledge, parosteal ossifying lipoma of the clavicle has not yet been reported. We herein describe the clinical symptoms, radiological and histological findings in a rare case of parosteal ossifying lipoma of the clavicle in a 40-year-old male patient. The characteristic histological appearance, together with computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging characteristics, should aid in the accurate diagnosis of such cases.

Abstract:Lipoblastoma is a rare, benign soft-tissue tumour derived from embryonic fat. Four patients with tumours located in the upper limb are reported, with special reference to imaging techniques and histology. Radical surgical excision is essential to prevent local recurrence and exact imaging techniques are thus crucial. MRI appears to be a reliable preoperative investigation and is the recommended radiological examination. In a child under 3 months of age, images showing a predominantly fatty but inhomogeneous soft-tissue mass are suggestive of lipoblastoma.
The imaging features of parosteal osteosarcoma

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the imaging features and clinical characteristics of parosteal osteosarcoma.Methods:The clinical data and features of 51 patients with parostel osteosarcoma reviewed.Thirty cases occurred in the distal femur,7 cases in the proximal tibia,7 cases in the proximal humerus,4 cases in the proximal femur,1 case in distal humerus,1 case in distal tibia and 1 in the ilium,Results:The main X-ray findings in 37 cases around the knee joint were thickening of cortex,soft tissue with focal or cauliflower-like high tumor bone in it.A lucent zone between the cortex and tumor bone was niticed in 8 cases.While multiple foci of high desity tumor bone were seen in 11 cases in the proximal humerus and femur.Conclusions:The imaging features of osteosarcoma are characteristic and are important in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of this disease.
Shoulder lipoblastoma: magnetic resonance imaging characteristics

Abstract:The authors describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of lipoblastoma of the shoulder in an infant. The appearance of the lesion in MRI scans correlated well with the pathological observation of lobules of immature adipose tissue surrounding masses of myxoid tissue. However, the MRI study of lipoblastoma is nonspecific, and the results of other radiologic modalities, such as plain radiography, ultrasonography and computed tomography, are essential for a confident diagnosis.

Abstract:Benign lipomatous lesions involving soft tissue are common musculoskeletal masses that are classified into nine distinct diagnoses: lipoma, lipomatosis, lipomatosis of nerve, lipoblastoma or lipoblastomatosis, angiolipoma, myolipoma of soft tissue, chondroid lipoma, spindle cell lipoma and pleomorphic lipoma, and hibernoma. Soft-tissue lipoma accounts for almost 50% of all soft-tissue tumors. Radiologic evaluation is diagnostic in up to 71% of cases. These lesions are identical to subcutaneous fat on computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images and may contain thin septa. Lipomatosis represents a diffuse overgrowth of mature fat affecting either subcutaneous tissue, muscle or nerve, and imaging is needed to evaluate lesion extent. Lipoblastoma is a tumor of immature fat occurring in young children, and imaging features may reveal a mixture of fat and nonadipose tissue. Angiolipoma, myolipoma, and chondroid lipoma are rare lipomatous lesions that are infrequently imaged. Spindle cell and pleomorphic lipoma appear as a subcutaneous lipomatous mass in the posterior neck or shoulder, with frequent nonadipose components. Hibernoma appears as a lipomatous mass with serpentine vascular elements. Benign lipomatous lesions affecting bone, joint, or tendon sheath include intraosseous lipoma, parosteal lipoma, liposclerosing myxofibrous tumor, discrete lipoma of joint or tendon sheath, and lipoma arborescens. Intraosseous and parosteal lipoma have a pathognomonic CT or MR appearance, with fat in the marrow space or on the bone surface, respectively. Liposclerosing myxofibrous tumor is a rare intermixed histologic lesion commonly located in the medullary canal of the intertrochanteric femur. Benign lipomatous lesions may occur focally in a joint or tendon sheath or with diffuse villonodular proliferation in the synovium (lipoma arborescens) and are diagnosed based on location and identification of fat. Understanding the spectrum of appearances of the various benign musculoskeletal lipomatous lesions improves radiologic assessment and is vital for optimal patient management.
Ossifying Parosteal Lipoma of the Mandible: a Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract:Parosteal lipoma is an unusual kind of lipoma and occurs in intimate association with the underlying periostium of the bone. Parosteal lipomas mostly affect the long bones and involvement of the mandible is rare. We report a case of ossifying parosteal lipoma of the mandible in which CT was effective in diagnosis and showed a well-circumscribed mass of fat attenuation containing areas of ossification and branch-like bony protuberances from adjacent cortical bone. Microscopic examination revealed that the mass was composed of mature fat cells without nuclear hyperchromasia or atypia. Layers of bone and ossification were found inside. A Rare Presentation of a True Intra-articular Lipoma: A Case Report and Review of Imaging Findings

Abstract:This report describes the unique case of an intra-articular lipoma in a 34-year-old male. The patient presented with a history of chronic knee pain associated with an intermittent sensation of the knee giving way. Physical examination and initial radiographic imaging were unremarkable. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a 9.2 x 6.7 mm ovoid mass posterior to the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) exhibiting hyperintense signals on T1-weighted images and intermediate-to-high intensity signals on T2. On subsequent proton density fat suppression sequences, the mass demonstrated homogenous signal suppression and was confirmed as being a lipoma. To the best of our knowledge, this is only the second reported case of an intra-articular lipoma arising posterior to the PCL. Intra-articular lipomas, albeit rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis for chronic knee pain with associated joint motion abnormalities. MRI remains the gold standard in imaging intra-articular soft tissue pathology and should be the study of choice in differentiating intra-articular lipomas from similar conditions such as pigmented villonodular synovitis and lipoma arborescens.

Abstract:Lipoblastoma is a rare benign soft tissue tumor found in infants and young children. It presents as an enlarging mass commonly observed in extremities, trunk, head and neck regions. Imaging features include a hyper-echoic mass on ultrasound, heterogonous fat density lesion on CT scan with enhancing septations and no calcification, and high T1 signal mass that drops the signal intensity on fat suppression MRI images. Total excision of such lesion is the treatment of choice, and follow-up is recommended to rule out recurrence.

Abstract:Parosteal osteosarcoma originates on the surface of long bones. The juxtacortical variety is one of the most common ones and accounts for about 5% of all osteosarcomas. We report the case of a 34-year-old female patient with a rare variant of parosteal osteosarcoma. Because of the less aggressive biological behavior, it is important to know it, in order to recognize and differentiate it from benign osseous lesions.

Abstract:Lipomatous lesions are common musculoskeletal lesions that can arise within the soft tissues, bone, neurovascular structures, and synovium. The majority of these lesions are benign, and many of the benign lesions can be diagnosed by radiologic evaluation. However, radiologic differences between benign and malignant lipomatous lesions may be subtle and pathologic correlation is often needed. The use of sonography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful not only in portraying fat within the lesion, but also for evaluating the presence and extent of soft tissue components. Lipomas make up most soft tissue lipomatous lesions, but careful evaluation must be performed to distinguish these lesions from a low-grade liposarcoma. In addition to the imaging appearance, the location of the lesion and the patient demographics can be utilized to help diagnose other soft tissue lipomatous lesions, such as elastofibroma dorsi, angiolipoma, lipoblastoma, and hibernoma. Osseous lipomatous lesions such as a parosteal lipoma and intraosseous lipoma occur less commonly as their soft tissue counterpart, but are also benign. Neurovascular and synovial lipomatous lesions are much rarer lesions but demonstrate more classic radiologic findings, particularly on MRI. A review of the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic characteristics of these lesions is presented.

Abstract:Lipoblastomas are rare benign mesenchymal tumors comprised primarily mature adipocytes, which are most commonly found in infants and children younger than 3 years. They are usually found in the extremities, trunk, head, neck, and retroperitoneum, although cases occurring in the scrotum have been reported. Due to its rarity, there is a relative paucity of literature describing its imaging and management. We present a rare case of a scrotal lipoblastoma, and discuss the current imaging strategies to differentiate this adipocytic tumor from other more common paratesticular masses, including aggressive neoplasms such as rhabdomyosarcomas. Knowledge of the radiological appearance of lipoblastoma can provide the correct diagnosis and prevent unnecessary orchiectomy.
Lipoblastoma: computed tomographic and magnetic resonance imaging features correlate with tumor behavior and pathology

Abstract:Background: Lipoblastoma is a rare benign neoplasm of immature fat cells in children. Imaging appearances are frequently complex, sometimes simulating liposarcoma. Objective: To characterize features of lipoblastoma on MRI and CT in comparison with recurrence risk. Materials and methods: We identified cases via retrospective review of histopathology-proven lipoblastoma cases in a large referral database and a pediatric medical center. Two radiologists scored CT and MRI on the basis of lesion features. Results: We included a total of 56 children (32 boys and 24 girls) with a mean age of 2.6 years (range 0.1-13 years). Extremity lesions were most common (27%), followed by neck (19%), gluteal region (18%), chest (14%) and mesentery (14%). Children most commonly presented with painless masses (73%), followed by dyspnea (9%), distension (9%) and pain (7%). Non-adipose soft-tissue components were identified on CT and MRI in 78% of cases. Significant (moderate or marked) septations were noted in 59% and enhancement in 35%. Compartmental invasion was present in 43% of cases. Of paraspinal cases, 38% involved the neural foramina or central canal. Lesion complexity did not significantly correlate with age. Recurrence was observed in 9% of cases and was significantly correlated with compartmental invasion (correlation: 0.303, P=0.009) and septation complexity (correlation: 0.227, P=0.038) on initial imaging. Conclusion: Although lipoblastoma is a fat-containing entity, many lesions demonstrate marked complexity and local infiltration that resemble liposarcoma, which is exceedingly rare in younger children. Compartmental invasion and thicker septations appear to confer greater risk of recurrence following resection.

Abstract:Lipoblastomatosis of mesentery is an extremely rare benign fat-containing mesenchymal tumour in infants and young children. On imaging, it appears as a solid infiltrating mass interspersed with macroscopic fat. We describe the distinctive imaging features of a large mesenteric Lipoblastomatosis, corroborated with intraoperative and histopathological features. We hope the case report and short review about this rare entity will increase the diagnostic confidence of reading radiologists while formulating differentials for lesions of similar appearance in the paediatric age group.
Using imaging to diagnose lipomatous ganglioneuroma: a case report and literature review

Abstract:We report a case of a well-defined lesion in an asymptomatic patient with lipomatous ganglioneuroma (LG) located close to the left thoracic spine. Its intensity was heterogeneous with adipocytes. The lesion extended into the spinal canal through the enlarged left intervertebral without bony erosion. The imaging, clinical, and pathological features of the tumor are analyzed. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed that the lesion was moderate enhanced. 18-F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18FDG-PET/CT) demonstrated high 18-F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (18FDG) uptake of the tumor lesion. The finial preoperative diagnosis from our radiologists was that the tumor may be a liposarcoma or neurogenic tumor, but pathology showed that this was incorrect. Some related literatures were reviewed for reference to summarize imaging characteristics of this disease and to assist radiologists in making more accurate diagnoses. All of the lesions had adipocytes in reviewed literature, and the fat-suppressed images showed that there was some low signal intensity within the lesions, some lesions had widened neural foramina and extended into the spinal canal, and some lesion had calcifications. LG is an extremely rare variant of ganglioneuroma. Using the correct measurement of the CT value, applying MRI for fat-suppressed images, using in phase, out phase and contrast-enhanced sequences, using FDG-PET/CT, mastering LG imaging diagnostics characteristics, and combining all of this with clinical, morphological characteristics and pathology results can help clinical workers decrease the misdiagnosis rate of LG.

Abstract:Osteochondrolipoma is an exceedingly rare histological variant of lipoma. We present a case of oral lipoma with areas of bone and cartilaginous differentiation. A 51-year-old male patient came with a primary concern of a painless swelling in the mouth that had been present for approximately 3 years. The lesion appeared as a sessile nodule with a smooth surface and a pink color located on the lower lip, measuring 3x3x2 cm. Upon palpation, the lesion was painless and had a soft consistency. An excisional biopsy was conducted.

Abstract:Background: Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor of infancy and childhood, with similar radiographic imaging findings as malignant liposarcoma. Therefore, it is crucial to distinguish through other diagnostics and clinical features. We present our experience with the diagnosis and clinical management of this entity. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed to identify children treated for lipoblastoma at our institution over a 30-year period. Charts were evaluated for diagnostic methods, treatment, and recurrence risk. Results: A total of 9 males and 3 females were identified. The age at diagnosis ranged from 8 months to 44 years. Imaging modalities employed included ultrasound (N = 5), MRI (N = 12), X-ray (N = 8), and CT (N = 3). The tumor location was reported in the lower extremity (N = 8) and upper extremity (N = 4). The tumor size ranged from 1.7 to 18 cm (mean=7.08 cm). All patients underwent complete resection. Available pathology reports noted masses featuring mature adipocytes (N = 1), fibrous septa (N = 2), focal myxoid changes (N = 1), and spindle cells (N = 2). Nine patients underwent chromosomal analysis, which demonstrated five chromosome 8 abnormalities. No recurrences were reported. Three patients had follow-up imaging, and 11 had follow-up visits between 2 weeks to 15 years. Conclusion: Lipoblastoma is an uncommon childhood neoplasm of embryonic white fat that can also be present in adolescence and adulthood. Imaging, especially MRI, is helpful in limiting the differential diagnosis, but definitive diagnosis requires tissue biopsy, which should be obtained with core biopsy rather than fine needle aspiration. Surgical resection is curative with few complications. We do not recommend routine monitoring as recurrence is unlikely.
An analysis of imaging characteristics of X-ray, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of intraosseous lipoma

Abstract:Objective To investigate the imaging characteristics of X-ray, computed tomography ( CT ) and magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI ) of intraosseous lipoma and to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and differential diagnosis.Methods The imaging characteristics of X-ray, CT and MRI in 38 cases of intraosseous lipoma conifrmed by percutaneous puncture biopsy and pathological test were analyzed retrospectively, which was compared with pathological outcomes.Results Intraosseous lipoma was noticed in the calcaneus (n=11 ), in the femur (n=8 ), in the tibia (n=5 ), in the ilium (n=6 ), in the humerus (n=6 ), in the radius ( n=1 ) and in the talus (n=1 ) respectively. There were 38 cases of single cystic type in all. Based on the X-ray and CT, calciifcation was found in 11 cases, bone crest in 19 cases, double sclerotic band in 4 cases, sclerotic border in 21 cases and bone expansion in 16 cases. Lipo density could be determined by CT in all the cases. The CT value was -40HU - -133HU. The MRI showed there was fat component in all the cases. Among them, cyst formation was detected in 9 cases, and inhomogeneous signal in 20 cases. According to Milgram’s stage, 4 cases were at stage I, 4 cases at stage II and 30 cases at stage III. Conclusions The X-ray and CT can show the lesion site, morphology, calcification, bone crest, sclerotic border, bone expansion and with or without boundary. The MRI can make clear fat component, fat necrosis, cyst formation, myxoid change, inlfammation, range and border of the lesion. The X-ray, CT and MRI relfect imaging characteristics of intraosseous lipoma from different aspects.
[Imaging manifestations and misdiagnosis of liposclerosing myxofibroma fumor]

Abstract:Objective: To focus on the imaging features of liposclerosing myxofibrous tumor (LSMFT) and diagnostic challenges to enhance clinical recognition and differential diagnosis accuracy. Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on the imaging and pathological data from 21 cases diagnosed with LSMFT between January 2014 and November 2022, including 14 males and 7 females (aged from 21 to 73 years; the course of disease ranged from 4 to 48 months). Patient demographics, clinical presentations, and imaging modalities including X-ray, CT, and MRI were reviewed. Pathological findings were correlated with imaging features to delineate diagnostic criteria and identify causes of misdiagnosis. Results: All 21 patients represented primary lesions, located in 14 bilateral femurs [9 on the right and 5 on the left; 12 proximal femurs (intertrochanteric and peripheral) and 2 distal femurs], 2 proximal tibia, 2 proximal humerus, 1 proximal radius, and 1 ilium and 1 calcaneus. On X-ray and CT, all lesions showed cartographical or quasi-circular osteolytic destruction with distinct and sclerotic margins, continuous bone cortex, absence of periosteal reaction and surrounding soft tissue mass. Calcification, bone ridge and varying degrees of fat components were observed in 16 lesions, displaying mixed density;5 lesions showed ground-glass density with minimal bone ridge. On MRI, the signal intensity of the lesion was heterogeneous. T1-weighted imaging showed iso-to slightly high signal intensity, while T2-weighted imaging demonstrated unevenly high signal intensity. Fat-suppressed sequences depicted significantly elevated signal intensity within lesions, with post-contrast enhancement showing uneven patterns. 5 Cases were initially misdiagnosed as fibrous dysplasia. Conclusion: LSMFT is an uncommon benign bone tumor, typically localized in the proximal femur but occasionally found in other skeletal sites. Understanding its distinct imaging characteristics is crucial for accurate diagnosis. Typical cases exhibit identifiable imaging patterns, whereas atypical presentations may lead to misdiagnosis as fibrous dysplasia.

Abstract:Lipoblastoma is a very rare soft-tissue tumor, with a benign nature, rare in feet. We report an exceptional case of a 5 years old girl with a plantar lipoma. The traitement was a complete surgical resection, restoring a normal and painless plantar support. The diagnosis was confirmed histoligically.
